- I DO NOT OWN THIS! I was inspired to make a video form of this brilliantly drawn tumblr post.
caffeineandcarp...
Please support her blog! I just thought this was too beautiful, and I had to do it! Sorry if someone else has already done this. I looked and couldn't find this as a video. So here you go!
~ King by Lauren Aquilina
I feel like the Hero of Time was imparting more than just his skills and wisdom onto the Hero of Twilight. He was also acting as a spiritual guide, trying to prevent him from suffering as he did, and allowing him to better his life. A truly tragic character.
That's why the Hero of Time will be my favorite iteration of the character.
The Hero of Time, and Link in general, is such a tragic character.
Fated to repeat his destiny over, and over, and over again.
But as long as he is fighting for what and who he loves, he will never give up.
At least it's always for a very brief period of all his lifetimes that this happens, except for The Hero of Time, who never seemed to be able to catch a break.
@@ElvenRaptor still this “small period” can change all their lives unfortunately..
But yeah the Hero of time sure is hardest one to bare..he can’t even catch a break after his death
Jesus Nintendo
I don't see it like that, Link is a hero, I think he would be happy to use his power to help and save others, without him Hyrule would be doomed, that's why he would feel grateful to have been given courage and been chosen by the goddesses. Begin chosen to fight evil and save the world would not be a curse, would be a blessing to him
@@KenShinta174 yes but imagine getting your life ruined for something no one will remember you for?
@@KenShinta174 True, but tragic heroes aren't defined by their own expressed misery or sadness. The term refers to the circumstances of their story. In the case of Link, whether or not he chooses to be the hero of Hyrule is independent of his own choices, and is actually rooted in the nature of his soul; something that he is burdened with. It is only by accepting this responsibility that he is able to overcome the trials facing him and save the world.
And you are right, more often than not, he seems happy and willing to do so for the sake of the things, the places, and the people that he loves. He might not control his fate, but he certainly does _own_ it.
Poor oot link... All timelines are so sad for him. I wish there was one that he got to stay and everyone kept their memories of him. Keep all his friendships. I just think of this from time to time and it makes me so sad that after his victor the just gets sent back to loneliness.
Kai Hall now there is! Breathe of the wild! He has friends and people remember him
The burden of being a hero...
@@SmolFoxTrue But most of them are dead
@@SmolFoxTrue
He was saying he wishes there was a happy timeline for OoT Link in particular.
He either dies (failed timeline), disappears (adult timeline), or grows up unremembered and despite furthering his swordsmanship he never finds anyone to pass his knowledge onto and becomes the Hero's Shade (child timeline).
BotW Link is a different Link entirely, and not the first to actually be allowed to keep his friendships or be remembered.
@@OsnosisBones Exactly, the Hero of Time suffered a life in a timeline where he did not belong, where he lost all of his friends, where no one remembered the deeds and actions he was destined to fullfil and he couldn't find a place in the world, since his destiny and purpose was erased by the ocarina's notes. it was only when he was able to pass his experiences and knowledge to the next generation when he was able to find peace
I feel bad for link he is reborn for one purpose only and doesn't get any reconintion. But that's what true heros do
Especially the hero of time..
The Hero of Time worked so hard 😢
True heros usually aren't destiny born, destiny just happens, it's not a real choice
It's a cycle of death and reincarnation. But at least he doesn't have to remember these things in his other lives. The Hero of Time, though... he lived through a cycle of death and rebirth. His journey to save Termina was exactly that: a three-day cycle where, in the end, everyone dies, but he remembers. And he clearly wasn't a hero because he wanted to be; he was a hero because he was the only one who could play the role.
1:56 "Oh, Link, I'm so sorry I brought this upon you. I'll return you to seven years ago so you can enjoy your childhood."
2:08-2:21 Link's second pass at childhood.
@@user-gu3qr5hk6k He's gone because he was sent back into the child timeline, so the Adult Timeline has no Link. It's like how time travel works in Avengers Endgame. Time traveling doesn't alter the timeline. Any change you make just makes a new timeline.
@@user-gu3qr5hk6k Yeah, Link left the adult timeline AFTER he sealed Ganon at the end of Ocarina of Time. So the adult timeline was Linkless from that moment forward, so when Ganondorf came again, the gods had to flood Hyrule, leading to The Wind Waker.
That's why the TWW Link has nothing to do with OoT Link.
@@user-gu3qr5hk6k Yes.
Not to mention he never realy has a happy ending
Down fall timeline he dies, chiald time line he isn't rememberd as a hero, gose through majorad mask then fights in the genocide of the garudoes then becoms a shade in tp, adult timline he is a 7 year old child in a 17 year olds body who has gone through the entiraty of oot only habe lost his childhood, and sadly enough the. hiald time line is considerd the happyest brcause its believe he maryed malon
@@ElvenRaptor its my theory/head canon that as the child timeline is technically a branch of the adult timeline, the spirit of the hero is shared, and the events of twilight princess and the events prior to the flood of hyrule in the adult timeline take place at the same time, leaving the adult timeline without a hero until wind waker.
My heart just died.
All these years later I still adore this, the artist did such an amazing job. This was one of my favorite things in middle school
*bawling* ... I'm seriously crying. I've played Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess so the feels are real people. Can't wait for Majora's Mask...
Noah SpookyNoodles I’m ugly crying😭
The hero of time is the greatest hero of all of them. He understood better than anyone what it meant to be the hero. After 7 years he wakes up to his entire world being destroyed, and he still finds a way to save it. After he is sent back in time his best friend leaves him, he isn't remembered for his heroic deed, and his close companion is killed. Yet he has no choice but save a world that isn't his own. And after all this he goes home and knows his destiny as the hero now is to protect the Royal family, and he does. Even when he died he trained the next hero, taught him to fight, and what his destiny is. He did so much, and though in his world he is remembered for so little, at least in ours he is remembered for everything.
Agreed
A True zelda fan cries from this.
FUCK I'M SOBBING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes
Yup my eyes are bright red from this
Ryan Deal jes
Nooo I'm not crying YOU ARE! * Rubs eyes*
I might be getting to deep into this but, if you notice when the first chorus starts, it shows a Dark Link on a black horse. Now, the way I see it, in accordance to the song, is that Link feels darkness looming around him, and he can't accept the roll of the Her of Time, and he fears what he would become if he took the wrong path. Again, I might be reading into this too much, but in the beginning, it's as if Saria is singing the song to him, and then later Zelda. When the MM pictures come up, Zelda's words echoes in Link's mind, and he later echoes those words to the Hero of Twilight."You've got it all, you lost your mind in the sound. There's so much more, you can reclaim your crown." (As the hero)"You're in control." (Choose your own destiny, don't let others influence you.)"Rid of the monsters inside your head, put all your faults to bed." (Don't let your shortcomings change you for worse, and don't doubt yourself.)"You can be king again." (You will have your days in the sun).Like I said, I'm probably over analyzing this, but thing fits the feelings of the Hero's Shade, and I really love everything about the video.
I know you commented this a long time ago, but this makes this song much better. Thanks
I got something in my eye......beautiful....
wow that's beautiful
That's actually Ganon stopping afrer zelda and impa escape the castle but when i drew that panel i was more focused on the silhouette and what he looked like to a little boy than any heavier symbolism.
@@caffeineandcarpaltunnel wait YOU drew that!
I'm not even going to lie, I cried at the end when Saria held his hand again. this is so perfect.

I love the song
I love the legend of zelda
I LOVE THIS VIDEO
same here too
after all these years, i keep getting sorrowful with this video
Natan D. Geez... Its crazy to think that this video has been up for years. To the point people can come back, revisit it and be hit with memories. I'm so glad you enjoy it!
DaBloodyHobo every once in awhile someone says LoZ and my mind immediately turns to this video, and then I sob. and it's been a few years since I first saw this. but I keep coming g back to this masterpiece you put I to video form and the artist did, and it's just always Beautiful and hearylt wrenching. I thank you
I remember when I first saw the post on tumblr. I bawled my eyes out. I come back every once in a while to look at the video. It still gets me the same way
@@HectorMElias once again, 4 years after.
I watched this last night before I went to sleep but couldn't sleep because I was still crying.
This is amazing.
I've been a Zelda fan literally my entire life, but it's only recently that I've started, you know, looking and finding fan content? That being said, how have I not seen this incredible work of art the past 9 years?! I'm SOBBING!!
This song matched with these pictures literally made me cry… Too perfect
me too, i am right now
So much feels I can hardly stand it! I cried when I was eight when I beat OOT because I felt so strongly for that Link. This is the most beautiful and heart wrenching showcase of his life. Thank you a hundred times over, now excuse me while I cry hysterically.
This is therapeutic especially for someone who was forced to grow up fast like The Hero of Time and healing their inner child .
Why.
Why does this make me tear up so much? It's truly beautiful, and a great mix of sadness and happiness, I love it.
I have literally been crying for an hour...
+Excalibeard Game (Bob) me too man.... me too....

Excalibeard Game me too bro, me too
I loved the comic with the music so much this was the first dance at me and my wife's wedding. (We're both huge Zelda fans)
I'm tearing up. The Hero of Time's story is so beautifully tragic.
Link has a special place in my heart ❤. From early teen years playing the LoZ games,to older adulthood, I remember with great fondness the innocence of a better time....
10 years on and this still makes me cry
top emotional stuff and sad that Link from oot had: young: Mido picking on him, 7years later: Link pretty much normal but can be hard to help hyrule. back as a young child: He lost his best friend Navi ,went out and go looking for Navi but went to a bazaar place and skull kid took Epona. skull kid turn him to deku Link but luckily turn back. found Epona and saved Termina. Years past Link have not find Navi yet so he might give up or something( in my opinion ) he turn older: went back to hyrule lost his right eye then somehow he died pretty young. :'(
sad life, makes me sad
It's so sad :'(
Why Navi...Why... :'(
I am crying so hard I'm so angry I never cry at zelda videos or hardly any PMVs in that case but I don't know what it is about this one but ugh my heart is aching JESUS chrsit
I'll never forgive you for hurting me this much good lord
SO THE GOLDEN WOLD WAS LINK!!! I KNEW IT!!!
Nintendo confirmed this a few years ago before Skyward Sword.
It was Ocarina of Time Link who died full of regret, with no recognition of his heroism.

Watching again this video after many years. Still gets right into the feels. (I thought this was erased from the platform as it did not longer appeared in my liked videos list)
I watched this back when I was 13/14, when I was going through the toughest and most darkest times of my life. I was being abused and had little to no hope left. But this video made me want to try to hold on. I'm 22 now, and it's so surreal to watch this again and see how far I've come since then... Though I still have a long way to go. I hope to get my LoZ tattoo eventually. It got me through dark times.
This video was so beautiful, and me, (being someone who's played almost all the Legend Of Zelda games out there), I found this art absolutely amazing!
This song fit the portrayal so well, and I was so moved by how it worked! This was well done, and it definitely deserved to be shared to those who DON'T have a tumblr!
I'm so glad the amazing artist of this piece let you share it, or else I might've never gotten to see it myself! Brilliant work!
Well, for some reason the comment I want to reply to is one of the only ones without a reply button next to it, but I would like to clear the issue that Emily Shpiece brought up. I did indeed ask the original artist if what I was allowed to upload this. She enjoyed my version of it (I did do a tiny bit of editing here and there, only with moving the words on a couple pictures to better fit as a video, but nothing more than that), and says she had no problem as log as I gave her the full credit she really deserves. PLEASE! If you enjoy this video, go check out her blog, it's linked to in the description. Don't bother subscribing to me, this was probably a one time thing :D
Thanks for doing this :D Favorited.
This song and video proves whoever you are it doesn't matter you can still do lots and make an impact on people. This is the truth behind this song and comic (at least from my view :p ). You should be proud to have made this video even if the song and art isn't yours
I liked the video, but why did you make it?
its actual crime that songs like this arent more popular
This video is 6 YEARS TOO LATE to my recommended section. I really felt crushed by this. Time/Mask was MY Link and his full story brings me to tears every time. I don't know if you check this still, but thank you. Hylia's Grace guide you...
I wish I could like this a MILLION times!!
In truth I wasn't sure how I felt about the song, but once I took a moment to really appreciate the lyrics, they really spoke true to me. I have good memories with Ocarina of Time, and after all this time I still find it funny that the person I can only really connect to the most is a fictitious mute haha But now that I'm older, I've never felt that he was more relatable. He was just a genuinely kind person who sacrificed life and spirit to help those in need, never once giving up even when the weight of the world (or the moon in this case) came crashing down on him. And that is why Ocarina of Time Link will always be my favorite Link.
Me too
this song, or more specifically, the tumblr post this video is based on, was the first thing i ever heard of lauren aquilina, and it made me cry the first time. this one song got me to check out the rest of her music, thank you for transposing the tumblr post into a video.
this is my most favorite song of all time so much that I cried I'm not lying
Well damn, way to bring the sadness of that entire series back.
the hero of time fought for everyone...
yet it seems that all who fought for and with him are gone...
left behind as the hero lives the rest of his life in pain....
I had finished Legend of zelda ocarina of time and Majora's mask and I immediately started crying. This was really beautiful. Thank you to all of those people who created such beautiful games.
And this is why OOT link will forever be my favorite! I so wish to see more of him somewhere someday
if i saw this when i was at the height of my zelda phase this would've absolutely obliterated me
Who else when they clicked on this song you were like “ oh it’s just going to be another Zelda music video “ then can’t stop listening to it all day and cry’s each time?
This video is beautiful.
It gives hope. Even if we fall, even if we loose, after all, did really we ?
Even after death, he never gave up. He accepted his fate, and he gave it to his descendant. He teached him, all what he couldn't do.
Even if depression, or life win on us.
We still can be king/queen again.
As long as we still have hope and will.
Everything will be allright.
The feels stabbed me through the chest. This is beautifully done, couldn't have been better. I've watched it so many times over, congratulations

I think this video is addictive because over and over again. As a major Zelda fan I try not to like every Zelda related video I see. But this video is a masterpiece I just had to.
Gosh dangit, now I'm gonna cry. ;-; Great, I know that as soon as I finish watching a video like this, someone always tries to talk to me and my voice is going to catch...
I forgive the creators of this though, it was worth it. :)
i actually think of ganondorf when i hear this song.... he wasn't really a bad guy in all honesty if you really look at what he had done and at what his true goal was. but he wasn't in control in the end... the monster inside him won and he became the very thing he hated. a conqueror. which was all because of Demise's curse... ganondorf really didn't have much choice. if anyone wishes for me to elaborate than i shall. but i don't want this comment to turn into a novel
@Timtee Wind Waker Ganondorf really builds on this, alternatively Twilight Princess Ganondorf... goes off the deep end
@@OtepRalloma
Considering we can surmise that a large majority of his people were executed for being related to him and he himself being executed for a crime he'd not yet committed and ultimately being sent into the darkness as a spirit he at least that time had reason to become a raving lunatic.
He's definitely a weaker morally grey villain than the WW Ganon, but they did at least give him a (mostly cut and summarized) snippet of dying dialogue where he makes it clear his hate is directed at the gods themselves who he knows for a fact are just pointlessly perpetuating a endless cycle of reincarnation and repetition.
The only Ganondorf that really has no interesting facets to his character is the OoT Ganondorf, and that's because he was the first human iteration of the character in a time where a cliche evil overlord character was still pretty normal.
Well, that and that one Ganondorf from one of the portable games that is the only Ganondorf that's not the same Ganon, but a reincarnation of him. Because to my knowledge he literally knowingly stole the cursed trident of the first Ganondorf from a temple because he wanted power.
@@OsnosisBones Actually the other Ganon came from Four Swords Adventure. A GameCube game.
People are not born monsters there made monsters

So cute, so sad, so amazing! OCARINA OF TIME/ MAJORA'S MASK LINK IS MY FAVORITE LINK EVER!!!
If the princess hadn't sent Link back seven yrs in the past, he wouldn't suffered a great deal of regrets and loneliness in his life... his heroic deeds in the future were all swept away after being sent back to live his childhood but as result it was truly a mistake.
As a huge TLoZ fan, I thank you for making this video.
Welcome back everyone. I doubt this is your first time, enjoy the sorrow and comfort this video and series brings you
The Hero of time, the forgotten hero, the unknown hero, the abandoned hero, the restless hero, and in my opinion THE GREATEST HERO.
One of the saddest part is that you play as a ten year old boy who finally gets a fairy friend that he has been wishing for a long time, which then leaves him later, loses the great deku tree which was like a father to him he loses his best friend to ganondorf in the forest, meets some other friends, which all have to leave to become sages, fight a bunch of monsters that were never there and finally beat up a demon king. One timeline out of three: Chased after his fairy hoping that she would follow him again only to find a strange land and made more friends which also died. Even as he went foward in time and become a 17 year old to fight ganondorf his mind is still a ten year old.
The part that always makes me cry is the end when Link turns back into a child 😭😭😭
About to cry... 🥺🥺🥺
I want to hug this man... 😭😭😭
Bro it's so beautiful❤ that last scene with Saria and link young again brings me to tears each time❤
This is soo gorgeous. So sweet and lifting. It's something that makes your day. Something that can help when you have no hope. No self worth. No joy. I just hope that makes someone happy. Like it did for me. Because it lets people know they can live with a purpose. It's so touching.
there is no better hero than the hero of time
every time i watch this video i start crying because the hero of time's story is so sad...
And in the afterlife, he recieved all the honor that he felt was do him. Not only from the Hero of Twilight but also from the Hero of Winds.
What makes you think there's an afterlife?
best music vid ever especially as a very big Zelda fan
Goddamnit, every time I hear this I lose it.
Honestly when I first saw this two years ago I cried instantly as my friend showed it. And then I haven't seen it in awhile since i myself have my monsters in my head and slowly and steadily try to take care of them. When I see this I feel at ease as I have been a true Zelda fan since I was 3. It's beautiful, and I cry every time I see it. Why have I not Favourited this yet? Well I will now, thank you for this video. @DaBloodyHobo
Edit: I did favourite it already, hehe my brain is dead some days. again thank you
I stumbled upon this gem earlier this week, and every time I watch it I cry...
Link live out his life with Malon after returning from his journey but not being remembered as a hero greatly pains him so much that he became a hyrule knight... it was never enough to ease his pain that even in death lingered on after he died in battle and later became the Shade of his former-self; Link, the Hero of Time is truly a tragic character.
I really put this vid together for me. im back for the hundredth time to watch it and cry :P
Thinking about creating my own PMVs to put on this channel. no guarantee they will be LoZ, but some defiantly will be, so... ya'know, look out for that if thats something you're into...
Ahh what a true hero..Yet tragic
Best song of all time!
it's so beautiful.. the song and the pictures belong together... i get the story the pictures tell, it's so true and amazing! all the feelings... words can't describe.. LOVE IT!!!!
By far my favorite incarnation of Link.. a tragic hero, Robbed of his childhood with his accomplishments erased by time itself, Fading into legends told by tales of his deeds. Watching incarnations fail until he steps in to teach them.
Been a while since I cried over Ocarina of Time.

I love this song and the theme go together so well
Whenever I feel sad and depressed, I always watch this video and even if I cry, it lifts up my spirits.
wow... This art is amazing the animation is stunning and the song is very good... I love this..
Link came to accept his fate and regreted of never passed on his skills who came after until the Hero of Twilight inherited his power, wasted no time by teaching his hidden skills to his descendant whose name is also Link... with Ganondorf finally been slain by his descendant's hand, the forgotten Hero of Time can moved on in peace to reunited with his friends in the afterlife. While Link the new Hero of Hyrule will honor his memories of the skills he gave to him that ease the forgotten Hero's lingering regrets.
Life changing, simply inspiring. This song along with the amazing art work almost made me cry.
I loved it
2;53 saddest part to me.
yeah, it shows link in the hero's armor heading into battle, and because the suit could fail in the heat of battle, it shows him dying, especially in the 'you don't gain a single thing from misery' part. That is link dying, turning into the hero's shade.
I always felt poor Link was an underrated hero... Ive loved him since i was s child.❤🧝♂️
Absolutely beautiful.
This series is one of my all time favorites, especially the three games depicted in this video. I've seen this video twice in a row, and each time I got chills all over. It touched a part of my childhood that I haven't felt in a long, long time, and it really moved me seeing my favorite series portrayed this way with this song. I love it so very much, it's amazing.
