  • The H&H Puzzle by Hanayama is definitely one of my favorite puzzles out of the Hanayama range. It consists of only two parts but the solution is still quite complex. A real masterpiece designed by Oskar van Deventer.

I solved Infinity right away but I'm still puzzling over Hourglass. I know what to do, but unfortunately I got the puzzle in a state that I'm not sure how to get out of (put the puzzle down and forgot later what I did to get it there, lol). Right now, though, I'm involved in some excellent Revomaze puzzles. Keep on puzzling!!

I have four Hanayama puzzles and this is one of them - and the hardest of them all. I've managed to solve it several times, but I never remember how, so it is just as hard every time :D

Yes! I cannot believe how each is so beautiful and they don't cost 50 USD each! They are almost all an exercise in design and material....and then there is the puzzle aspect wherein you develop a little "relationship". Hmmm, I might need a fuller life.

Thank you for sharing the creative process behind the H&H puzzle! This is one of my favorite video so far because of the researches around it. About my thoughts on the genius behind it, here they are: I'm so glad to live at the same time as Oskar van Deventer. He is a master of puzzles and following his production on youtube is incredible. He has concepts that are brigning puzzles to an artistic level. And with the social medias connecting all puzzle fans in the world (this includes Mr Puzzle and all the people here), this creates a truly unique and opened community. I admit that this is certainly not for everybody to enjoy puzzles, but I'm sure that many puzzle lovers in the future will wish they were born in our time to have just a chance to be a part of it and maybe exchange with such living legend in a comment section on youtube. This is just like some people who wish they could have met some impressionist painter in XIX century Paris café. It's a key time in the puzzle history and I'm really glad to be there to enjoy it.

This one we had at work and many people would play with it during the week. It got to the point where some of the proper moves wouldn't work anymore because it had been forced through positions so many times, and the center peg finally snapped in half.

I saw the opening of this video , right up to the spoiler break, stopped it there, bought the puzzle, and commenced to solve it. Took me two days a few hours each day. Was able to get it apart, don't know I did it, and able to finally put it back together, again, don't know how. Here I am to see the proper way to solve. All my puzzles go to my grandson after I am finished, he is a 8 year old puzzle master, a future Mr. Puzzle I think.:)

I stumbled across your channel by complete accident (as one typically does on youtube) and thought id pick one up, even if i never solved it, just as something to fiddle with at my desk or a kind of conversation piece if other people see it. I found this one on Amazon and picked it up. I was going to follow along with what you did step by step just so i could do it really easily and quickly after watching friends struggle but before i had a chance, i actually solved it on my own. Granted, i had seen this video so i had some idea on the technique and what kind of moves were needed when it appears youre stuck, but i didnt remember the sequence i was just kind of fiddling. I went to put it down to do something else and realized it was in the wrong orientation and that bothered me so i fiddled with it some more thinking i was resetting it and the next thing i know... 2 pieces! It was such an incredible feeling i definitely want to find more like this. Great videos and thank you for the new hobby!

Oh my god. I love this puzzle. I would love a lengthier analysis of the design of the puzzle if you got more material to talk about. Failing that, going into more detail with the system to label every possible position for the puzzle would be very interesting. I don't know how many other people would like a linger video based on that, but in case you were wondering if there was a desire for that kind of content.

I worked on Vortex on and off for about a year and a half...only to discover that one of my pieces was somehow BENT such that the "head" was almost touching itself where it wrapped around in the small loop!! I finally opened it slightly in a vise such that it matched the distance on the other two pieces and then solved it pretty quickly.
Now I am on Quartet, got it in a near hopeless tangle, finally freed it and still working....VERY difficult.

Pretty sure I have a variant (defective?) H&H (someone on another comment thread said he got his replaced and it worked, and others mentioned they've seen variations). I got it apart but yours is the second solution video where the reassembly doesn't work (at 2 different points). For yours, at 7:46 the vertical turn is blocked. Mine DOES come apart, so presumably it can also go back together (!) but just not with your method or the different method from another solve video.

    Love this puzzle!
The first time I solved it, somehow I managed to take a shortcut, applying a very small amount of force and turned the pieces relative to each other in a way they didn't suppose to turn. This trick reduced the number of steps to solve this puzzle, but I can't replicate it... :(

I found the solution by accident but it was still satisfying

Mr. Puzzle, i really enjoy your videos and it seems you enjoy it too. Keep up the good work. For this puzzle particulary I find a 6 step solution without vertical movment and it is easier than i thought. Did you find it?:-)

I don't know that solution. But if you look at the state diagram in the beginning there should be no 6 step solution possible. Maybe there is some damage or deformation on your puzzle that makes it possible. 🤔

@@Mr.Puzzle sorry it is not six I miscount it. But a solution that I do not find on the diagram. I do a small video to show you.
