She moves her jaw fluidly because she is probably so relaxed and because she can. Or maybe moving her jaw is what keeps her relaxed. Regardless, she is on another level.

I feel so called out
in the original remix ariana says the “i don’t know why i run away” and it goes right before the whistle but in this performance abel took that part so that ariana didn’t have to come back in until the whistle (like you said, it would be hard to go to the whistle from a low run)
I didn’t necessarily listen to Ariana. But over time I have heard a bunch of stuff from her and can not help but to like and respect her talent! I always liked pop and r’n’b and dance etc. but seeing what she can do is just so amazing. So much talent!
you should listen to sweetener and positions then! sweetener has a few r&b influenced songs, and positions is pretty much completely r&b influenced. 🤍

She didn't get married the day before this, she just posted her wedding pics right before this performance. I'm not sure when she got married, maybe a week or two before the performance. Idk. There were rumors like a week or two before she actually confirmed it by posting the pictures so idk.

the live performance was actually pre-recorded and ari got married on the 15th of may, if you notice on her wedding photos her arm tattoos were covered with make up and in this performance her tattoos are still covered so it's possible she performed this literally before or after her wedding (others also speculated that you can see her wedding band with her engagement ring in the performance but it's not that visible if there really is a wedding ring)

He sings a lot more classically than I would’ve expected when he’s live, at least in the beginning before moving to higher notes.
Also he has one of the best exclamation “yah/ah/woo’s” IMO, so soft yet crisp

I was taught to plié slightly (relaxing down into whenever I was having issues throwing my head up/going on my toes to reach high notes. I hated it at first, but now I feel like I can support those notes better because I’m focusing on my breathing and relaxing, rather than straining to reach.

I love when people become famous early on because you can listen to the changes in their voice over the years. Hi Sam, you should react to Måneskin! They’re an Italian group which won the Eurovision this year! You should listen not only to the song they won with (“Zitti e Buoni”) but also to other songs like “Torna a casa”, “Coraline”, “Chosen” and others.. Hope you will!

I recognised first Ariana’s jaw drop in her “no tears left to cry” music video and I thought that might be my key for me to understand how to sing “A” and “O” it didn’t quite work for me but I’m curious to experiment. To be frankly I think “A” and “O” are the hardest vocals to sing although they seem like the easiest lol
i dont know how many effects there could be in Ariana's microhone but she's always perfect live, holy damn
She's an easy artist to tell when it's live cuz she's like laughing and saying things she's not supposed to in like half her live performances 😅

it's great to see the analysis from a vocal coach. There are definitely a lot of subtlety that we as audience don't appreciate that go a lot into a great performance!

I love what you said about needing to feel joy to really succeed at something! I can't sing for shit but I've recently started drawing and painting again and I do want to someday make a career out of it. so even though right now I'm constantly seeing people be infinitely better at art than I am that just pushes me to practice more because I genuinely love creating art :)

Besides the great singing, what I also really love about this performance is how they interact witch each other. Like, they're really performing this together, emphasis on "together", it's just so open, natural and very authentic. Both are having a great time and that makes it sound so much better to me. I don't listen to Ariana Grande at all and don't know, what else she's doing but the deeper parts are fantastic, so rich and full, still loud but not unpleasant or forced in any way.

Could you do something Eurovision, please? There were some great vocals this year! I'm pretty sure Gjon's Tears “Tout l'univers“ should be the most interesting for you as a vocal coach, because his falsetto is just so damn good and the transitions between head and chest voice are insane. It's a very technical song.
Barbara Pavri - voilà (french chanson), Destiny - Je ne Casse, Ana Soklic - amen, Eden Alene - Set me Free (Whistle notes!) and of course the winner Måneskin - Zitti e buoni (glam rock) are all worth a reaction.😁

I came to the conclusion that her jaw movements are just mechanical way to shape vowels into some of her runs. It works in giving a more distinct sound to each individual notes. But she does't seem to NEED to do it, she can produce great runs in the more conventionnal way.
I guess its just preferences and she likes to switch between them. (plus it gives some more dramatic visuals points tbh lmao)

best performance for both of them. I think arianas annunciation was amazing here, where I don’t usually get that from her. His voice also sounded so strong and faultless when I don’t usually get that from him. I love these performances where artists are just enjoying themselves and not staging full on circus acts.

I'm one of those people that's bias against both of these singers just because it's not music I enjoy (Prefer Ariana from the Victorious era), but there's no denying they're both on a whole different level in terms of ability.

Ariana's darker tone definitely involves tongue retraction. She started doing that during her Dangerous Woman tour and I remember thinking it sounds unnatural. It's like she was emulating Christina Aguilera. I think over time she found the right balance as she learned to adjust to that technique so it sounds less unnatural these days, plus her voice also matured. Still I wish she'll continue to develop this darker tone without retracting her tongue too much to force herself to sound big.
