Thank you sir for the valuable information 👌These channels are the best bit of social media !
But do I understand correct that a diesel engine can not be the problem of excessive blowby ?
In that case it must be the PCV valve. I also have no vacuum under the oil filler cap. It's rather blowing out air/smoke a little bit there as well.
And under normal circumstances the car smells pretty bad but not necessarily from the rear..

Very detailed with common symptoms, causes and fixes.

One simple question... Having any amount of white smoke coming out of the dipstick hole once the engine has reached working temperature is ALWAYS related to a bad PCV Valve?

    • @MrDIYer

No. If the pcv valve is working and you still see white smoke outthe dipstick hole i suggest perform a compression test.

@@MrDIYer Thanks a lot for your reply! The thing is I don't know if my pcv valve is working. I was trying to relate that to the light white smoke coming out from the dipstick hole while the engine is running already warm.

Thank you for the diesel engine education . Never aware that excessive blowby gas could rarely create a 'closed loop' of scavenging oil from the crankcase until the thing runs out of crankcase oil or destroys itself
I hope I have this correct. It makes perfect sense.

    • @MrDIYer

It could be anything from a dirty air filter to a dirty fuel filter or misfiring sparkplugs etc or the sensor itself. Even a torn or loose air hose or clamps. I suggest start with the simplest that doeant require replacing parts like check for loose clamps. Try to run the engjne with and without air filter etc.

Hi @Mr.DIYer, thanks for the great info. I would like to share that there is one more possibility about blowby causes that is a failing head gasket on a 10 k rebuilded engine, I mean that is not always needed a rebuild, it can be also a bad head gasket that leaks compression gases into the oil line which hits the crankcase and spills engine oil throuh the dipstick. Do you agree?

In the M57 oil vapour or smoke coming out of oil filler cap is normal. It should not lift the oil cap when placed upside down but can escape. Many bmw owners see this even on low miles . This doesn’t mean worn out engine .

Very good job at explaining. I hope your channel has good growth in the future!
I have a question. My car is a Peugeot 406 with a 1.8L 16v petrol engine (PSA EW7), its now 20 years old and has 207,000km on it. When I rev past 5000rpm, the oil dipstick will loosen a very tiny bit (like about 1cm, but that's it). There is no oil or smoke coming out, breather hose was replaced 2 months ago.
I did the oil cap test like you said, tiny bit of oil from the camshaft is hitting the paper, and the paper is slightly getting sucked into the engine.
    Is this normal blowby?

    • @MrDIYer

Newer engines have more blowby. Low tension piston rings in addition to way too thin oil means oil consumption and carbon buildup in the gdi intake.

Appreciate your time I have a procharged 90’ corvette and after about 4K rpm it will smoke from the dipstick and more recently started running a little warmer and might leak coolant I’m curious if the oil and smoke issue could be from the Pcv system as the valve was disconnected from the valve cover and I’ve tried reconnecting it to the valve cover and it still doesn’t seem right

    • @MrDIYer
      @MrDIYer  3 года назад +1

if you have taken out the pcv valve and it does the same thing then you can rule out a clogged pcv. however before doing anything drastic i would suggest the only way to be sure is a compression test. there are petrol compression tester that are fairly cheap now a days and should serve the purpose. plus its easier to do on a petrol engine than on a diesel.

I have blowby in a corvair but I have good compression in all cylinders. I do not understand. Blowby is from bad rings but I blow no smoke out tailpipe but blowby smoke from PCV vent tube chokes out moter and stalls at idle unless i unhook the PCV. But I do not understand how I could have good compression in all cylinders?

      1. try to replace the pcv valce
      2. try tune up. perhaps theres an inbalance in the fuel to air ratio.

Does an 4d56 engine has a PCV valve? My engine is smoking throug the valve cover and the dip stick, but the engine is performing well, no hard cold starts, the blowby decrease more when i flush the engine oil, i just want to knoe if my engine needs an overhaul, thank you

No pcv valve on diesel engines. Only on gas engines. You may have one worn out cylinder. Perfom compression test

My 4d56 had oil leaking through turbo
My mechanic examined and changed blow pipe and said it was soft making intake blocked thats why turbo was leaking oil .... do i need complete tuning and service of intake ? &
I have white smoke problem and sometimes when i pushes vehicle in 2 or 3 gear in high rpm it smokes black

i suggest you repair the turbo leak, you can buy a turbo repair kit. as for the smoke try to adjust the fuel enrichment screw. ruclips.net/video/VWBu53sNbas/видео.html

Hi there . But can blocked DPF filter also cause engine blow by ?

Not sure. maybe possible. If the
Filter gets clogged enough that it wont let the fumes out the exhaust.
