Yeah, I really like that style of seat. I don't remember having that style back when my kids were little. I had the seat that went behind my seat but that limited the view of the child (pretty much just staring at my back the whole trip) and it seemed a little unsafe in the event of a fall. We also had the bike trailer, but that was certainly not conducive to off-roading.
I remember there being early versions of child in front seats back when Ethan was a toddler. They were very bulky though and seemed like they’d be difficult to pedal. Since then the brand “kids ride shotgun” really refined it but they’re very pricey. This is the first low cost Amazon clone of it that might be worth trying.
all i heard yesterday was "we have poison ivy" hahahaha, also we went for a walk and eli had another hole in another pair of shorts lol good thing summer is over!
*nice to see you on an adventure again. I worry about additional seats on bikes incase we crash/fall. Its a lot further down for the young child than the adult riding.*

He picks certain clothes and wears them whenever possible and wears them out.

Definitely something to consider. I’ve heard it said that this style is safer because the parents body surrounds the child more.
