  • Heavy rains in the past 2 days have made the soils around newly laid drains give way. What was just a regular ice cream run turned into a late evening rescue adventure with the Isuzu’s front right tire dropping into a 4ft deep drain line. The front right sank till the chassis bottomed out on the right and got stuck.
Tried to winch out from a couple of spots on my side of the road but there was nothing solid in the correct line of direction. The available spots were weak and were pulling the wheel at an angle, and would have damaged the steering ends/axle. Plus the rain was super heavy. While I was waiting, a friend stopped to check and ended up landing his Innova in a similar ditch across the road ..hahaha. Tried to pull out from the rear using a new Thar pulling from its rear U-tow point and the towing ball on the Isuzu. Please note, this one isn’t an open tow ball which is very unsafe, this one is a tow ball hook rated for 22k lbs and has a retaining clip on top which doesn’t let the ball fly off. The Thar struggled but could not pull the Isuzu out. Then we patiently has ice cream and waited for Dilsher to come on his Rubicon, the Innova was pulled out first and then the Isuzu.
And in the end, a polo also landed in the same ditch as the Innova just to be pulled out in time while we were still there and packing to leave.
It definitely was a comedy of errors with loads to learn.

It’s an amazing depiction of how vehicles come to rescue when they are treated like family! The mighty Rubicon does the job so smoothly! 😍 Also, the lesson in the end only highlights the groups’ good understanding about the vehicles. Shout-out to Ibextrailblazers! 😃

I really wanted to use my winch, as I would’ve used my new Warn XP9.5S for the first time but my Jeep with 37s is just a beast and pulls out anything anywhere. I remember everyone telling me not to go so big on the tyres in india and also it’s a 2 liter turbo charged engine and won’t take this size of a tire but I feel it’s the most perfect setup and stance also larger the Tyre, larger the footprint and easier it gets to rescue someone or myself.

Normally people prefer smaller wheels for overlanding since they offer greater fuel economy and reliability (because of less unsprung mass). For an offroader 37s are great anyday.

you know I had a similar experience in rescuing a stuck ertiga, and what I have learnt is , the best practice is to put your vehicle in low range, where you can churn out the maximum amount of torque SLOWLY. In my first attempt in which I tried to snatch out the vehicle which had sunk to it's chassis, the rope just snapped and the ertiga didn't even budge. In my second attempt, I put my Thar in low range and just put it into D. With a slight gente throttle it pulled out the ertiga from the mud without any drama. For rescuing, GENTLE is the way to go. Gunning the throttle might do more bad than good.

How is the rear bed of the Isuzu? Is it safe from rain and dust like a normal boot?

Yes, with the carryboy soft cover, it is as good a proper boot. Just can’t lock it

Nice video. But, in which mode did the Thar guy try to pull? 2H, 4H or 4L?
