Oh yes Tamson was without a doubt a wonderful side villain, yes he was just a villain made for the this particular arc but he had so much going for him. Tamson literally bit off the heads of three Mon Calamari soldiers in a row, he was on a killing spree yet his kill streak was broken when he couldn’t bite through a clone scuba trooper’s armor. Yeah clones ✊
The clones armor was specifically design for them to move around underwater and endure the water pressure so they have to be tough. At least enough to let them survive in their environment but Tamson still killed that trooper as he stopped moving after Tamson let go which leads me to blobs he suffered from blood loss and still perished, by I could be wrong. Riff Tamson's death was easily the most brutal of The Clone Wars show, they literally blow him up with an explosive knife and show his blood and pieces drifting down into the sea. You can tell that was before the Mouse took over.
I still remember first watching the arch Tamsin featured in and not thinking to heavily about him, then I saw how aggressive he could actually be if pushed to his limits and now he remains one of my favourite separatist leaders of all time. He’s cold and calculating sure but the way he went completely savage and started ripping foes apart with his jaw unlike any other sentient species we’ve seen definitely leaves and impact. Terrifying stuff
He says that we never see riff tamsons people outside of that one arc but there was one in the republic prison when obi wan went undercover as rako hardeen
I don’t think anyone doubted riff as a ruthless leader. It’s probably why they chose his character to be a shark like species. This guy knew how to manage sep forces en par to Alto Stratus
Riff Tansen, Trench, and Grievous had some of the best episodes in TCW. Tansen was basically what would happen if you crossed Jaws with a humanoid warlord, which is a terrifying thought no matter how you think about it. Trench was a tactical genius who could outmatch any Republic commander he went up against, and it was only through the quick, brazen yet highly effective thinking of Anakin Skywalker that Trench got soundly defeated the first time around. The episode where we got to see Kit Fisto and Nadar go up against General Grievous in his own home, having been lured there thanks to Count Dooku and the ever-cowardly Nute Gunray was something else, and for me at least, it made Grievous into the terrifying monster he was always meant to be, a creature so vile, so ruthless, that hell itself trembles with fright at the mere mention of his name.
I loved his episode in the clone wars. I also thought it was a good idea for a darker tone and seemed like the guy you’d want to try and hold an insurrection from the inside.
One of the few things that I loved about Tamson was, like stated, how underwater combat was like second nature. Any other general would have some sort of problem, but Tamson? This was *his* turf. He didn’t stay in the back either. He surged forwards with his forces and literally MAULED his enemies to death, in seconds too. Imagine if he hadn’t died; he would’ve been a real force to be reckoned with, even if it wasn’t showed Underrated and was killed off way too early, I’ll fight for that
The fact that the only other Karkarodon we see in Canon is the Republic prisoner, it doesn’t exactly portray the species in a positive light, which is a damn shame because I like sharks
I think even the Quarren are shown in a more positive light, which is saying much if you consider how many times they or members of their species have been on the antagonistic side.
A Karkadon was also present in the novel Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire where she was a minor character that was in charge of a spaceport or a shipping company (been awhile since I read the book so can't remember which) that the main characters needed to steal something from. They have nothing on Riff Tamson of course but, it is a point where they have shown up in Canon outside of the arc in the clone wars series like you mentioned at the beginning of the video.
Wish a future game, book or series would explore more about Karkaris and its inhabitants. What made them such savage fighters and aggressive occupiers, why they allied so eagerly with the Separatists and what was their history both before and after the Clone Wars. Actually, I wish we could get to see more about other aquatic species like the Nautolans, Aqualish and Chagrians.
I recently watched the mon cala arc and I have to say it’s honestly one of my favorites, from tamson alone, I wish we got to see way more of him, if he was at the battle of naboo. Or something I would love to see a mod of him in modern battlefront 2?
