Thank you so much Shawn! I think maybe some people forget that I am Jewish and that is not a Christian religion or something :) I try not to let it get to me but it does make me sad that anyone would think I wouldn't like a people based on religion or any other thing.
I always love watching your videos. I can’t imagine someone spending time watching just to fuss about what the content creator does. People move on to someone who more lines up with your beliefs if you can’t handle the difference. Chana, thank you so much for letting us in your life. I am a Christian who is fascinated by the Jewish faith and respect it because that’s the root of where my beliefs come from too. I am so sorry for the people who try to force their beliefs on you. I pray for the Jewish nation. What is happening in this country is appalling and needs to be stopped.
Chana, I am a Christian, and I have subscribed to a handful of Jewish RUclips channels; and quite honestly, they are up there as some of my favorites. In all of your videos, I have never heard you put down, speak bad against, or otherwise be offensive towards Christians or Christianity. You have shared your conversion story from Christianity to Judaism, and to be simply put, your faith and beliefs changed. As a Christian, I of course am sensitive to MY faith being spoken bad about or put down .. I believe we all have the freedom to choose our beliefs, our religions, without having to slander others for their choices. I feel that you have done so beautifully, as have most of the other Jewish channels I subscribe to. Sadly, there was one conversion channel in particular who went to great lengths to demean and speak ill against Christianity, and I quietly left and no longer support. The most ironic part is that in just about every religion, or at least most, LOVE is the one element, factor, teaching, belief that binds us all together. Each of our religions are based on love .. our God is love; we are to love others; we are to show our, and God's, love; and we should use that common denominator to love those of different faiths and beliefs. Kindness, love, respect -- they really are feel-good emotions that are so easily conjured up .. yet hatred and mean-spiritedness, those are emotions that take so much hard energy and need to be worked-up. If I were to profess my belief in Christianity and then only show dissention or hatred towards others beliefs by my actions and words, what does that say about the God that I choose to believe in .. what would anyone think of me who bad-mouths and shows disrespect to other people's choices of religion? I appreciate you, Chana, and the way you have converted from one belief to another without speaking against the faith system you left. I have alot of respect for you and any others who speak out about their chosen faith without putting down someone elses.
I always feel like people can subscribe to their religion of choice (or not as they see fit) but quite honestly, if there's some message to be had and you feel like it applies to you, does it matter what religion it comes from? I don't think so, I just take it 🙂
I enjoy your videos, was raised catholic but I agree with you as far as catholisem. I am trying to find my own path. Thank you for explaining so many facets of Judisem.
Hi i normally dont comment, but i just like your uplifting spirit, i work in a jewish retirement community, when i started i found your channel, you have taught me so much! Thank you!
Thank you for answering our questions! I so enjoy your channel. Thank you for sharing your life with us in such a positive way. All Jewish people and Israel remain in my daily prayers. Gwen
I enjoy all your videos but the Q and A ones are my favourites. No wonder Mr Firefly only wants sour dough bread now. They always look amazing. Thanks for sharing your lives with us 😊
Hi Chana, I always enjoy your Q & A's. I feel exactly the same about makeup, but sometimes you just have to. You do so much, and I especially love seeing your beautifully organized library. Encyclopedia Brown and All of a Kind Family were favorites of mine 55. years ago! Hola from Cuernavaca, Mexico
Oh my goodness! I had totally forgotten about “All of a Kind Family!” I LOVED them! I grew up in a little seaside town in Massachusetts, 4 doors away from one of our 2 town libraries. I spent a huge part of my childhood there, meandering all through the magic of books. Thanks for the memory! I’m going to purchase the set for my two granddaughters. ❤️❤️
Hello there. Great, great video. You answered all questions so truthfully and easy to understand. As you know I love your channel and your content. I have learned so much from you, especially as a Catholic. YES, please do a cookbook, I would buy it in a minute. Have a wonderful week. 🩷🤗🩷
I had to laugh when you mentioned your crafting and lack of time. My husband and I have been cleaning out our storage shed. A lot of stuff from when we moved *8* years ago. (Ugh) When I opened the third banker box of crafting supplies I set the lid back on, looked up at my husband and said "I think I need a 12 step program!" LOL I absolutely love that you want to do an illuminated manuscript of some kind. I, too, have a great interest in calligraphy and illumination. I actually purchased some sheep/goat vellum and real gold leaf. Have I done anything with it? No. Also, it's in long term storage so I don't even have access to it. I also have powder pigment. Am I nuts or what? Now that baby firefly is truly on the move your time is sucked up in a lot of different ways. I think of you often and continue to send good vibes and prayers to you, your family and extended family. Be safe and have a wonderful summer!
Hi Chana! I just want to say that I’m in awe of how you answered that question about Christian theology in curriculum. You handled that question beautifully- and a lot better than I ever could lol (seriously, you have so much patience and grace!). I, too, share your frustration with it. My family is Christian, but not religious at all. We celebrate the major holidays, but that’s pretty much it. We are homeschoolers and it is so frustrating to find theology included in things like math where it doesn’t make sense for it to be. Or there will be curriculum where if you edit out the theology, the children will miss critically important parts of instruction. For example, I’ve seen it in reading curriculum where they use theology to teach about vowel sounds and blends- taking out the theology would mean missing out on instruction on particular topics. Ultimately, we had to opt for all secular curriculum as it got to be more frustrating than it was worth. Keep doing what you’re doing- you’re making the best choices for you and your family. Sending you lots of light in these dark times ❤
Thank you for your kind words :) Yes, the part about missing out on critical parts of the curriculum is a fear of mine too. But if I use secular curriculum, they also end up teaching things that go against our religious beliefs especially in science. I love the fact that Christian curriculums recognize G-d and keep that a focus, but I don't like things like copy work, spelling, illustrations, etc being something that goes against our religion.
@@jaroffirefliesBut wouldn’t it be possible to use secular materials with the older ones and then explain that this is what is scientifically known and then cover what you believe and why you believe it. Maybe it is just me, but as a relatively non-religious Christian from Europe I never got while American Christians so often need to teach belief as facts. I mean is that not the beauty of faith that I can believe things without having to proof it.
@@jaroffireflies yeah, I definitely get that. My son is still super little, so we haven’t had to cover science all that in depth yet. We plan on covering it secularly as part of the school day and then having him attend some sort of of a religious program like a Sunday school in order to get the religious part of it. I was raised Catholic and my husband Methodist, so it can be challenging to find a good fit. It’s complicated lol
@@jaroffireflies awwww thank you!!! ❤ It’s our first year officially homeschooling. Our little guy just turned 4, so we’re doing preschool at home. I can’t wait- I’m so excited 😍
Hey Chana! I'm so happy to see you back I really missed your videos last week. Thank you for the clear answers to all your questions! I bet you I wouldn't mind if the video was 40 minutes long🤣!
I admire you and love your videos. 100% behind you about not showing children on social media. You were very careful in your wording but I am not in this case; too many perverts trolling social media. Also agree with you 100% in how your tailor your home school curriculum to emphasize Jewish topics and values. All the very best wishes to you and your lovely family.
Thank you so very much! Yes, I was careful in my wording. I know there are kids who watch my videos with their parents so I want to be respectful of that.
Welcome back Chana, good to see you again, hope you enjoyed the holidays & your two week break. I would say you have a pretty full on career going on what with 4 children, home schooling, running a home & all your RUclips content ! Life is busy for you, as the children grow (which happens far too quickly, so enjoy every minute) there will be plenty of time for crafts again, in the meantime there's always a good book to escape in, time allowing. Clare x
I loved Encyclopedia Brown when I was a kid! I still have a few of them from when my kids were little. The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin is a good children's mystery book also. I recommend reading it first just in case its not suited for your family. Love your channel!
Thankyou so much for your Q&A. I truly appreciate your perspective and find it helpfully instructive. Prayers lifted continually for all Jewish People all over the globe and for the Peace of Jerusalem and the nation of Israel.
Glad you enjoyed it! I posted a note in the community section last week that I wouldn't be able to get a video out because of the holiday the week before and Fathers Day.
@@jaroffireflies his favorite was Todd I loved Stephen and Jenny ❤️ Don't know if you finished it but love wayside there's a whole 5 books if y'all interested recommend continuing the series it's so good 😊
Thank you for sharing your answers with us. You are in a chapter of your life where there isn’t much time for crafting and sewing, but as your children grow older, another chapter will begin when those art projects will be able to happen again.
My husband and I homeschooled our children as well. It only makes sense that you teach your children what you believe. You and your children are reading some books that I not only enjoyed sharing with our children but were childhood favorites of my own. I loved Encyclopedia Brown (I've shared him with our grandson too), The All of a Kind Family series, etc. Such good books. I am really enjoying your channel and so appreciate the care you take to protect your children.
@@jaroffireflies when we were homeschooling I remember that a black sharpie was my best friend when it came to editing inappropriate content. My children still laugh at the “sweaters” I gave the Egyptian ladies in our history text. 😊 Would a sharpie work to block out the Scripture on the math textbooks, worksheets, etc.?
Channa I am old enough to be your mother but you mind me of my mother (I always call her mammy)she was a great mammy and protected us from everything without making us afraid. Love you're Q &A. Please could you do a shopping video as l like to see the lovely big shops. ❤❤❤Ireland
4 children, Channah! That is a full time career. Never say that you don't have one. Raising little humans is full time. That is why there are schools and daycare, Yada. Admire that you have the perseverance to live on one salary and homeschool. Have seen how proud Mr. FF is that you are knocking it outta the park and keep up with your blog, which we all enjoy! Keep it up, GF!
Hi Chana. Loved the Q & A. You absolutely handled the question regarding Christianity exceptionally well. I don’t know why/how anybody would ask/say those things. Everyone has a right to practice their own religion and should not be subjected to what they do or don’t believe! Its a private matter. Glad to hear everyone is well. Lots of great questions. You even answered a few of mine! You would be a great teacher! I hope you are having a wonderful week! 😊
I would pay to take a class from you online! I've seen how you organized your homeschool curriculum and your organizational skills are off the charts haha.
100% seriously, if you ever have the time/capacity to teach classes about any of the topics you love - Judaism, homeschooling, home making and organizing and running a home, recipes and bread-making, etc. - I would be so up for that!
@jaroffireflies Baruch Hashem, I am doing quite well, thank you. I have had to do battle with my health recently, but I am coming out the other side and looking to the future. Whilst in my recovery, I have been thinking a lot about where I would like to take my Judaism, and ordination might genuinely be on the cards.
Dear Chana, first of all, you are lovely in appearance and in spirit, and I pity people who feel the need to be mean in your comment section. I have treasured your channel over these last few years. I am a Christian, and I respect you and your Jewish faith. I enjoy learning about your life, customs, holidays, etc. Secondly, I have been battling cancer for just over a year, and your advice on head coverings has been very valuable to me as I have been going through chemotherapy and have no hair. I understand you cover your hair as part of your religious observance, but your advice has been very valuable to me in my own situation, and I thank you. Third, after the initial troubles in Israel over the past year, you asked people to read the Psalms out loud on Israel's behalf. I had actually coincidentally chosen to read Psalms on my own just prior to that as I was initially facing my cancer diagnosis. You are so right in that the Book of Psalms is very powerful. It contains the highest heights and the lowest depths the human spirit can experience, and proclaims the love, kindness, and power of God over all we experience. I have found it amazingly effective in dealing with my own ups and downs in my journey, and I think of you and your request when I read Psalms as well so that I can honor that request for Israel's well-being. You have helped me in some profound ways, and it is the least I can do in return. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate you! I am so happy to hear that the advice on head coverings and psalms have been so helpful to you! I will pray for your full recovery! May it be quick and with no complications and a full remission!
Wayside School! Nostalgia! I loved those books as a kid! Glad your little dude is loving it. Is there such a thing as Sourdough challah? Also, are you doing the 5x5 reading challenge this year?
No official 5x5 challenge for me this year :) With the toddler toddlering I’m not able to read so much and I don’t want to put that pressure on myself :) There is such a thing as sourdough challah but I haven’t made it personally :)
I like Hydrochic for modest swimwear. They have extended sizes and lots of options/pretty colors/patterns. I am Protestant and wanted modest swimwear to be comfortable on a cruise and when with my son when he needed a parent along when he was a Cub Scout (my husband sometimes could not attend due to his disability and there were a LOT of men and boys at camp/swimming) It made me more comfortable.
You did so well answering the Christianity questions which were a little uncomfortable It was done without shying away from truth and with sensitivity towards the questioner. Well done ❤
As a Jew by choice, I truly appreciate all your comments on Christian theology and Christian curriculum. I completely agree with you that Christianity is all around us. We need to preserve and live our culture as vibrantly as we can. It's never against anybody beliefs. It's a love of Jewish life every day in everything we do!❤❤❤😊😊
I love your Q&As so much. I am a Christian, and I had to roll my eyes a bit that people thing you would actually teach pieces of someone else's scripture and faith. Hmm... Why would anyone do that? As a homeschooler, things definitely come up that don't fit our beliefs and values. I simply skip it. Cheering you on in this wild and wonderful season of parenting!
I've never felt you were derogatory or negative toward any other religion. As a Christian, observing you and others prepare to observe shabbat has made me think about the sacredness and holiness and ways I might want to express or better set apart that time in my faith. Culturally, its interesting to learn about how other people live, the things we have in common, and the things that are different. And I'm always up for trying new recipes and talking about books. I read Encyclopedia Brown as a child too.😊
I loved the All of a Kind Family books when I was a kid in the sixties. I just read the biography of the author. Very interesting. When I was a kid we didn't know that Sydney Taylor was a woman. She changed her name from Sarah.
Books: I'm glad you brought up, All of Kind Family again. Encyclopedia Brown - that brings back some wonderful memories. Anne of Green Gables series. they were all very good. I can recommend Emily of New Moon series and Jane of Lantern Hill.
@@jaroffirefliesI think there are three books in the Emily series. I haven't read them since high school. Wikipedia will have all the information about Lucy.
Hi Chana! I totally agree with keeping the children's faces and names private. I have been trying to get a young family member to stop posting her children and where they are currently. Tried to stress the dangers, but it falls on deaf ears....may I be a bit personal and say you look fabulous for being 43! As always a pleasure to watch and learn.....
Aw thank you for the lovely compliment Janith! Yes, it’s hard for some people, the kids on the internet thing. I think they think that if they stop, they are admitting they are wrong. But we have to put our kids before our pride.
Thank you so much for addressing keeping children out of videos. I am not going to name the channel, but there was another converting Jewish family I was following where they filmed a child in what I would call a compromising position. I very nicely put a comment to say to be aware of what they share of their children because they don’t know who might be watching for not good reasons. Crazy enough, my comment was deleted from their video. Unfortunately I had to stop watching them because I started to realize they were using their children to get more views on their videos since they did say RUclips was their main source of income. I stopped another Jewish mother oriented channel because she also was featuring her children quite a bit in her videos, and people need to realize that those videos good or bad will follow that child for the entirety of their lives. Children deserve to have private childhoods. It’s sad that there are parents like this out there, but I think through other RUclipsrs such as your self and Frum It Up that dont share their children on their videos that we can have more awareness on the issue.
Another tip not just about keeping your kids safe online but offline as well. The amount of people I see letting their kids have monogrammed shirts, hats, backpacks etc is amazing. Don't put your kids names on clothing etc where strangers can call to them. A woman I know was on vacation out of town at some beach and said that someone's kid had something monogrammed and a guy was trying to lure the kid away from the parents. Scary stuff.
Yes!!!! Those signs people put out in front of their houses with their kids first name, their sport, and their school (plus the obvious home address) always seemed so unsafe to me.
You lit up talking about teaching. How blessed are your kids to be educated by you as well as your internet audience. I imagine when your kids are older and time allows that teaching will always be in your life whether that’s teaching young Jewish women or mentoring young wives and moms in your faith community. Have a blessed day and prayer to both you and Israel. Ps. as a Christian viewer, I have NEVER found you to be disrespectful of my religion. It makes complete sense that you are raising your Jewish children well, Jewish! 😂 why that is controversial is beyond me haha!
Awwww I would LOVE that! I did it once, for a friend. But there wasn’t much need for another kallah teacher in my community so I didn’t go through any kind of formal training.
I love all the beautiful literature you have provided for your children! We had beautiful shelves full of wonderful children’s literature that I enjoyed reading myself! Question: are there rules about the application/removal of makeup during Shabbat?
Thank you! We do love our books around here! As for makeup, I don't every wear makeup on Shabbat so I am not the best person to ask this question to. I believe you can apply it before Shabbat, but not on Shabbat, and not remove it on Shabbat. But again, this is not an area that I know much about because it has never come up for me.
You showed a prayer book. Is there only one or are there many prayer books? If so, what would be different other than language? Thanks! I wish you and your lovely family of fireflies a very peaceful week. 💚💙
There are many prayer books. There are slight differences for Ashkenazi Jews and Sephardi Jews for example, and even for different types of Jews like Moroccan Jews, Iraqi Jews etc. There are siddurs for women, and for everyone. There are Hebrew, and English, and lots of other languages. You can check out an online Jewish bookstore to see some examples, like Eichlers.
Oooo, I love And Rachel was his Wife. It's one of my favourite frum novels. (Also excited if you are reading the Anne of Green Gables books for the first time, and the All of a Kind Family series... a childhood favourite.)
Good afternon to everyone 😊🌼 Thank you for leting us know you a litlle bit more, your thoughts, your religion and lifestile... Teaching grown womens must be so nice and fulfilling...💯💪🏽 All my prayers for your people and for the safety return of the hostages 🕯️💛
If challah can be made from sourdough, what is the typical characteristic that distinguishes challah from other breads? I always thought it was a special dough - and of course the specific shapes, but mostly the dough.

What an absolutely beautiful response ❤️❤️❤️ Susan

Thank you so much for this lovely and thoughtful response ❤️
I always feel like people can subscribe to their religion of choice (or not as they see fit) but quite honestly, if there's some message to be had and you feel like it applies to you, does it matter what religion it comes from? I don't think so, I just take it 🙂

Hi Chana, I always enjoy your Q & A's. I feel exactly the same about makeup, but sometimes you just have to. You do so much, and I especially love seeing your beautifully organized library. ❤️❤️
So fun! I had never heard of them until recently and I adore them! As do my kids :)

My pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Oh yes, any time I had seems to have flown out the window with this little guy!
@@missyg5355 oh definitely complicated. I’m sure you’ll find a way to do it though! You’ve got this!!!
@@jaroffireflies awwww thank you!!! ❤ It’s our first year officially homeschooling. Our little guy just turned 4, so we’re doing preschool at home. I can’t wait- I’m so excited 😍

Hi Chana. Loved the Q & A. You absolutely handled the question regarding Christianity exceptionally well. I don’t know why/how anybody would ask/say those things.
@@michaelurvoy glad to hear you are doing well! Wishing you a full recovery with no complications!

Thank you so much :)
As a Jew by choice, I truly appreciate all your comments on Christian theology and Christian curriculum. I completely agree with you that Christianity is all around us. We need to preserve and live our culture as vibrantly as we can. It's never against anybody beliefs. It's a love of Jewish life every day in everything we do!❤❤❤😊😊
Love this Q&A!!!! ❤❤❤❤
So glad you enjoyed!
Thank you ❤️
I've never felt you were derogatory or negative toward any other religion. I read Encyclopedia Brown as a child too.😊
Thank you of you kind words! I really appreciate you!

Do you recommend any shops that sell modest clothing that ship worldwide? Like to the UK? Thanks for a great video 💕
I’m not sure about who ships to the UK, I’ve never looked into that. Hopefully some others will see your comment though and chime in! ❤️
Thank you so very much Kristin! I really appreciate you!
