    I did take exception to one thing you said - you don’t have a career now. Let’s see, you are the administrator and at times the teacher for your children’s education , you are responsible for maintaining a kosher household and being ready for shabot every week , you plan your children’s / enrichment activities , you entertain in your home and all that goes along with preparing for that , you supervise your children and make sure they are safe, you procure all household items , food, etc. social director for your family. Gee, you are just a lady of leisure !! You do have a career, you just do not get a pay check for it ! Oh and how could I forget , you maintain a You Tube channel. You work out of love and not a pay check. I think you have an amazing career ( and no I am not a stay at home mom praising “ women’s work”. I am retired after almost 40 years working as an accountant and I do not have children I would have been described as a career professional , and I double assure you I see just as much value in your current “ career” as I ever have seen in my former career. I applaud you )

    I absolutely agree with you about theology in curriculum. Christian curriculums go way overboard. I don't need Bible verses while trying to teach multiplication.
    I too find it fascinating how nuns live. I've actually watched a few videos and read a couple of books on the subject.

      It seemed strange. I assume most Christians wouldn’t be expected to teach their kids about other faith beliefs when not necessary.
      Christianity is hard to escape even the basics on in the US. Other faiths aren’t similar in that way. Especially anything beyond Halloween really 😆

      Why are there so many against the Jewish people. What do the Jewish people believe that being said I have learned so much from you but I don’t understand. As a Christian I was always been taught that Jews were Gods chosen people. And that God wants us to Love one another. I am 80 and still have so many questions. Loved this video! I cannot believe anyone would think that you dislike Christians. I have NEVER felt that way. You have ALWAYS been so kind and welcoming to me! I completely understand why you would edit out any doctrine that is not your beliefs. I did the same when the content was in conflict with our denomination’s doctrine. Why would we want to confuse our children? I did explain that not everyone believes exactly what we believe/practice.
    I am sorry to hear that the piano lessons did not go well. Maybe when the time is right you will find the right teacher. Just like school/curriculum finding the right fit can be a challenge.

    Chana, I am a Christian, and I have subscribed to a handful of Jewish RUclips channels; and quite honestly, they are up there as some of my favorites. In all of your videos, I have never heard you put down, speak bad against, or otherwise be offensive towards Christians or Christianity. You have shared your conversion story from Christianity to Judaism, and to be simply put, your faith and beliefs changed. As a Christian, I of course am sensitive to MY faith being spoken bad about or put down .. I believe we all have the freedom to choose our beliefs, our religions, without having to slander others for their choices. I feel that you have done so beautifully, as have most of the other Jewish channels I subscribe to. Sadly, there was one conversion channel in particular who went to great lengths to demean and speak ill against Christianity, and I quietly left and no longer support. The most ironic part is that in just about every religion, or at least most, LOVE is the one element, factor, teaching, belief that binds us all together. Each of our religions are based on love .. our God is love; we are to love others; we are to show our, and God's, love; and we should use that common denominator to love those of different faiths and beliefs. Kindness, love, respect -- they really are feel-good emotions that are so easily conjured up .. yet hatred and mean-spiritedness, those are emotions that take so much hard energy and need to be worked-up. If I were to profess my belief in Christianity and then only show dissention or hatred towards others beliefs by my actions and words, what does that say about the God that I choose to believe in .. what would anyone think of me who bad-mouths and shows disrespect to other people's choices of religion? I appreciate you, Chana, and the way you have converted from one belief to another without speaking against the faith system you left. I have alot of respect for you and any others who speak out about their chosen faith without putting down someone elses.

(Ugh) When I opened the third banker box of crafting supplies I set the lid back on, looked up at my husband and said "I think I need a 12 step program!" LOL I absolutely love that you want to do an illuminated manuscript of some kind. I, too, have a great interest in calligraphy and illumination. I actually purchased some sheep/goat vellum and real gold leaf. Have I done anything with it? No. Also, it's in long term storage so I don't even have access to it. I also have powder pigment. Am I nuts or what? Now that baby firefly is truly on the move your time is sucked up in a lot of different ways. Hi Chana! I just want to say that I’m in awe of how you answered that question about Christian theology in curriculum. You handled that question beautifully- and a lot better than I ever could lol (seriously, you have so much patience and grace!). I, too, share your frustration with it. My family is Christian, but not religious at all. We celebrate the major holidays, but that’s pretty much it. We are homeschoolers and it is so frustrating to find theology included in things like math where it doesn’t make sense for it to be. Or there will be curriculum where if you edit out the theology, the children will miss critically important parts of instruction. For example, I’ve seen it in reading curriculum where they use theology to teach about vowel sounds and blends- taking out the theology would mean missing out on instruction on particular topics. Ultimately, we had to opt for all secular curriculum as it got to be more frustrating than it was worth. Keep doing what you’re doing- you’re making the best choices for you and your family. Sending you lots of light in these dark times ❤

    • @jaroffireflies
      @jaroffireflies  4 месяца назад +3

      Thank you for your kind words :) Yes, the part about missing out on critical parts of the curriculum is a fear of mine too. But if I use secular curriculum, they also end up teaching things that go against our religious beliefs especially in science. I love the fact that Christian curriculums recognize G-d and keep that a focus, but I don't like things like copy work, spelling, illustrations, etc being something that goes against our religion.

    • @lisal5718
      @lisal5718 4 месяца назад

      @@jaroffirefliesBut wouldn’t it be possible to use secular materials with the older ones and then explain that this is what is scientifically known and then cover what you believe and why you believe it. Maybe it is just me, but as a relatively non-religious Christian from Europe I never got while American Christians so often need to teach belief as facts. I mean is that not the beauty of faith that I can believe things without having to proof it.

    • @missyg5355
      @missyg5355 4 месяца назад

      @@jaroffireflies yeah, I definitely get that. My son is still super little, so we haven’t had to cover science all that in depth yet. We plan on covering it secularly as part of the school day and then having him attend some sort of of a religious program like a Sunday school in order to get the religious part of it. Dear Chana, first of all, you are lovely in appearance and in spirit, and I pity people who feel the need to be mean in your comment section. I have treasured your channel over these last few years. I am a Christian, and I respect you and your Jewish faith. I enjoy learning about your life, customs, holidays, etc.
    Secondly, I have been battling cancer for just over a year, and your advice on head coverings has been very valuable to me as I have been going through chemotherapy and have no hair. I understand you cover your hair as part of your religious observance, but your advice has been very valuable to me in my own situation, and I thank you.
    Third, after the initial troubles in Israel over the past year, you asked people to read the Psalms out loud on Israel's behalf. I had actually coincidentally chosen to read Psalms on my own just prior to that as I was initially facing my cancer diagnosis. You are so right in that the Book of Psalms is very powerful. It contains the highest heights and the lowest depths the human spirit can experience, and proclaims the love, kindness, and power of God over all we experience. I have found it amazingly effective in dealing with my own ups and downs in my journey, and I think of you and your request when I read Psalms as well so that I can honor that request for Israel's well-being. You have helped me in some profound ways, and it is the least I can do in return. Thank you.

    Thank you so much for addressing keeping children out of videos.
    I am not going to name the channel, but there was another converting Jewish family I was following where they filmed a child in what I would call a compromising position.
    I very nicely put a comment to say to be aware of what they share of their children because they don’t know who might be watching for not good reasons. Crazy enough, my comment was deleted from their video.
    Unfortunately I had to stop watching them because I started to realize they were using their children to get more views on their videos since they did say RUclips was their main source of income.
    I stopped another Jewish mother oriented channel because she also was featuring her children quite a bit in her videos, and people need to realize that those videos good or bad will follow that child for the entirety of their lives. Children deserve to have private childhoods.
    It’s sad that there are parents like this out there, but I think through other RUclipsrs such as your self and Frum It Up that dont share their children on their videos that we can have more awareness on the issue.

Don't put your kids names on clothing etc where strangers can call to them.
