Showgirls is a 1995 drama film directed by Paul Verhoeven from a script written by Joe Eszterhas and starring Elizabeth Berkley, Kyle MacLachlan, Gina Gershon, Glenn Plummer, Robert Davi, Alan Rachins, and Gina Ravera.
"I can touch you but you cant touch me" is the only thing I can remember of this film.
The biggest sting is that Carolco could not afford to make Verhoeven’s canceled Crusade with Schwarzenegger; along with Cutthroat Island at the same time. But then he turns around and does Showgirls as a favor in the hopes of saving Carolco; and both this and Cutthroat Island flopped leading to Carolco’s demise.
I hate that there was some kind of mass hallucination that made people think this is a "misunderstood masterpiece".
Or that since there’s so many crap movies out there that all of a sudden it makes showgirls some decent film. Just because there’s so much garbage nowadays doesn’t make older bad films any better

Went to see this in the theaters with my then girlfriend and we laughed at how many guys were sitting there by themselves.
There was an edited R rated cut on VHS when it was first released on video, it was mainly for the video stores/retail places that refused to rent/sell NC-17 rated films. So, an R rated version does exist, but it never made it to DVD (or laserdisc).

I've never cared for this movie!I completely understand why it flopped!I agree that Elizabeth Berkeley was miscast!I never thought she ugly,but,I never thought she was as sexy as this movie made her out to be.
Personally Matt I agree Elizabeth Berkeley is that Attractive, that’s why I think she’s Miscast In Showgirls Too, The Ladies That are Way More Beautiful & Attractive are Elisha Cuthbert, Charlize Theron, Kate Bosworth, Brooklyn Decker, Samantha McLeod, Katherine Heigl & Amy Smart Those are my Celebrity Crushes LOL ❤

One of the worst movies of all time. I will never understand how this has a cult following. It’s not so bad it’s good because it’s a chore to sit through! Every scene is torture and cringeworthy

In defense of Jesse Spano, she has great legs and that is a big deal in dancing circles. It's not so bad it's good but it's a trainwreck and sometimes you stop and look.

I Like Kyle MacLachlan he’s a Good Actor, very Talented, Not 1 of my favorite actors but I do like him in Dune, Blue Velvet, Hidden, The Doors, & 1 Night Stand I thought he did Good Job in those Films
Great Job Matt, I have seen Showgirls, I Remember it being Poorly Written & Acted, Boring Film, I Didn’t Hate it Cause I’ve seen Worse Films IMO Like Freddy Got Fingered, Going Overboard, Movie 43, The Love Guru, Monkeybone, Disaster Movie, Meet The Spartans, & Epic Movie are Some Of the Films I Seen, I Didn’t Like Showgirls, it’s a Bad Movie, But It Didn’t Make me Mad like the Other Films I Mentioned
To be honest, I never liked this film & understood its cult status it got over the years. but I much prefer Striptease starring Demi Moore, over it.
Elizabeth Berkeleys character was so unlikeable
7:32 Agreed Matt hey I bet I know why she took on the role because she wanted to move away from her Jessie Spano character from"Saved By The Bell" to play a total opposite character then what is known for to show she can act she must have figured "I'm going to do a movie with a writer and director who helped make Sharon Stone a star" but this is a pretty awful acting performance by her by far but like you said bro she's not to blame at all she was doing what her directing was directing her to do.

To me I would love watch a full blown documentary on this film and get the whole cast writer and director also and them being flat out honest about this film that would be a very interesting watch more then the actual film itself IMHO. Solid job on the review bro👍👍

I rather watch Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike and that's a much better movie than this.
Showgirls is Hilarious and a unintentionally made Masterpiece of a movie imo. Its campy and ridiculous and the dialogue is so bad its good. Showgirls is a comedy in my eyes 😂😂😂

It ain’t overrated dude. The film got panned by everyone critics and audiences.
Only a small, very vocal group of people think it's great.
