Whatever you think of Marissa Mayer and her leadership at Yahoo, this lecture is an amazing window into the inner workings of a 14,000 people tech company
It's very interesting to see the differences between theses tech leaders. Thanks for putting all these together. There's certainly a big difference between them. Some are clearly standouts, while others not so much. It would be interesting to hold a vote or an open stack-rank them only by their presentations here. So far, Schmidt, Hastings, Tolia and Green hit me as a cut above.
Lol so many fucking morons online. Those same people that blame marissa mayer for Yahoo's failure are the same people that haven't done anything in their lives.
I understand many are upset. But honestly, logically, follow the timeline. She out of pure luck joined google. This "luck" happen stance pushed her into an executive role. Literally - managing by group think. So. Make sure, when you hire, get someone with Google on their resume....
Google did the right thing by hiring Eric Schmidt as CEO. Yahoo did the wrong thing by hiring Marissa Mayer as CEO. They should have hired someone experienced like Eric Schmidt as CEO.
You did the wrong thing waiting for the results to cast judgment. You should've done the smarter thing and spoken leverls of scope inward on what the pros and cons were between the varying scenarios of those two companies and had something more substantial to say than paraphrasing the shallowest comments that were here before you.

Her voice sounds exhausted. Marissa Meyer was much fresher when she was at Google and when she started at Yahoo. Sorry for her. She was such a winning personality that time !
+BetterThanEver Probably a super difficult job. Everywhere I hear that she does really well, but she still wasn't really able to save the company. And Yahoo was a dumpster fire before she took over.

I could do a better job than her. I also yell at sports games and sort of jerk my muscles while watching, pretending like I'm one of the athletes. I look around to make sure no one sees when it happens or pretend I was reaching for something, probably a beer or chili dip. Then I shake my head... because I would've not done the thing that made the mistake.... goodness gracious I can do better than what I observe, especially after watching it unfold. Who am I? Because she is worth half a billion dollars even though she ruined one of the major tech companies of the internet age. Who in the late 90s would predict Yahoo is dead in 2017.
Yahoo was once offered to get acquired by Microsoft for over 60 billion dollars. Through some executives and Marissa's era of the company it tanked and ended up selling to Verizon for around 4 billion.

Really interesting, great piece of advice from 1hour ! Thank you

It amazes me that companies are willing to spend 100's of millions of dollars a year on one individual to run a company into the ground.
+MrSuperpat RawMeat it's really easy when it's not their money but the money from pension funds
She was given an almost dead company. Don't think others would've done way better.

The title of this video should be “how to scale a business into irrelevance”
Via wikipedia, mayer is a billionaire,
She should make a talk on how to kill a company (Yahoo)
As always, RUclips commenters have it all figured out. Given a company to turnaround, they will turn it around day after tomorrow.

Don't forget to get someone to throw on a few covers of magazines for publicly
Epic leader failure
yeah....like she didn´t excel at Google....which is just ordinary and totally ignored by Yahoo when they hired her.
Also doesn’t hurt that she has a decent figure on her.
At 20:38, what does she mean by “venturing”... I’m. It sure I understand the context
She says “mentoring”

interesting! 26:04 that happens at lunch and i never ever think how weird it is until just now lol
Marissa Mayer is a prime example of the difference between a CEO and a visionary founder. Yahoo failed because it needs a visionary!
She's a woman, so she's a shopper too. Selling Yahoo's assets could best be done by a woman.
Like you?
you didnt go to the wall
He didn't let the girl to ask a question!!😭😭 y wud you do that!??
She got a huge payout from Yahoo…for doing what exactly
For being CEO?
