  • The main component is the PAM8403 digital amplifier. It’s very small and can be powered with an USB cable. It can deliver three watts per channel and it has a very low price, especially if you buy more pieces at once. It works with 4ohms and 8ohms speaker drivers.

    I did something similar after watching your video! I took and old pair of PC speakers and mounted them in a wooden box I made. I found an amp on Amazon with bluetooth, added a battery pack and now have a nice little portable bluetooth speaker system. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Very nice video. I like the way how you explained each and everything like putting a capacitor and reason for it, putting a resistance. I like your tools and the finished product. and in the end I came to know why my small speakers are always having little humming noise when attached to computer via USB port. Thank you very much Sorin for all your efforts.

    i built this today and i must say i am very pleased with its perfomance ,
    i used 4 ohm 3 watt speakers and where he connected the capacitor i put a 16 v 220 uf , it does not even switch off even when the volume is high , it sounds loud when the volume is low
    last year i bought the version with bluetooth on it , it sucks soooo bad , every time the 808 kicks in , it would swith off,
    guys if you are looking for a quick and easy way to build speakers ,I RECOMMEND GETTING THIS AMPLIFIER

A small request, would it be possible to provide us with a Link with the Exact Material List used and the Welding Schemes of each Speaker individually? your speaker can be sold in market they look so good according to me and they also sound very good I also used p a m 8403 amplifier circuit with 4 ohm 3 watt speakers at each channel means at right channel the impedance of speakers is 4 ohm and 3 Watts and at the left channel also the impedance of speaker is 4 ohm and 3 watt but the circuit is getting too hot and it stop working when it is heated too much at full volume or little bit lesser than full volume but its sound quality is awesome.

    Hi Sorin that's a nice project that i will certainly do ! a small tip : we can use a dc isolator to prevent those ground loops wich make this annoying buzzing sound, like that you can use the Same power supply for everything ! 😉

      hi, thanks for the tip. I know about the DC isolator converter and I will definitely use one in a future video. but I wanted this to be a budget diy mini speaker system. I'm also planning to make other more complex audio systems in the future.

    Excellent video!!! Clear, short yet accurate and right to the point explanation !!! With one video I have learned everything I needed to know about speakers. I have a question though, with the same power (in this case 3W+3W), can you make them somehow even a little louder by using different pot or different amplifier for instance, without compromising quality of the sound ??? I'm asking 'cos I am currently working on a similar project, but speakers will be located further from the source? Great respect dude!

    • @Sorin_DIY
      @Sorin_DIY  5 лет назад

      hi. thanks for watching, the amplifier cannot be modified, to be more powerful. but in the pam8403 datasheet is mentioned that it can be powered with max 5.5V. this way it can deliver 3.2W per channel with 4ohms speakers. so you can try to increase the voltage to 5.5V. the only alternative is to use a more powerful amplifier.

    • @VanClaaude
      @VanClaaude 5 лет назад

      Ok. Thanks for that. But are there any more powerful amplifiers? Could you recommend something? It will go to a laptop.

    • @Sorin_DIY
      @Sorin_DIY  5 лет назад

      it depends on what power supply you want to give it. the laptop USB port can deliver 5V at 0.5A. if you want to use the USB as the power supply for the audio amplifier, the pam8403 is the best choice. if you want to use a separate power supply for your amp, you can use any amp you want.

    Hi Sorin, another great video. Looks like I will be customising my parcel shelf in my car. As the power consumption is relatively low do you think you could make a base box using a slightly bigger speaker from your speaker stash?
    So what is next of the agenda?
    •powering them by 18650 lithium batteries.
    •adding a Bluetooth chip for portability.

    • @Sorin_DIY

    I used this little amp (the version with the volume pot onboard) with a pair of cambridge soundworks 1.25" speakers out of a creative travelmate, i built a box out of modellers plastic (styrene) that can be glued with polystyrene cement, fitted a pair of mini bass tubes out of styrene tubing porting out of the back (20mm wide tube), it's in the front of my antec P100 PC case on a socket 754 PC with an athlon64 3700+ CPU and Radeon9800 Pro graphics card (Motherboard is an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe)
    Its routed internally to my Soundblaster live 5.1 card running windows98SE, i also fitted a separate '3rd' speaker going directly to the soundblasters 'PC Speaker' output with a 100Ohm potentiometer this is for DOS sound (to control the bios beep volume level and DOS gaming/music sounds), i tell you what the sound quality from this little thing in my front drive bay is just incredible, it's real crisp and has a surprising amount of bass for a drive bay speaker, i cant recommend these things highly enough, they are incredible!

    Hi, Sorin. I've been watching your videos and they are really helpful.
    Just a question about ground loop, from forums and other videos I saw them use the capacitor like what you installed to fix it. But I also saw some short the ground from audio input with the Vin (-). Is the latter safe and does it cause any damage in long term use?
    Thank you for all your efforts in sharing your electronics knowledge

    • @Sorin_DIY
      @Sorin_DIY  Год назад

      Hi. That's not enough. to eliminate the ground loop noise you need a ground loop isolator, or you can power the audio amplifier and audio source with separate isolated power sources, for example separate transformer outputs.

    Nice video. Very helpful information. I wished you had tested the amps drawn with the volume pot on maximum, while reducing the volume on the mobile. Cause it would be helpful to know how much current is drawn, in case we don't add the volume pot, with the mobile volume high vs low. I suppose the current (amps) drawn would be more when the mobile volume is high and much less when it is low. Right???

    • @Sorin_DIY
      @Sorin_DIY  Год назад

      the current consumption of the amplifier is higher when the audio input is louder. it doesn't matter if the input level is set by the phone or by the potentiometer.
