You hit the nail on the head. I haven't gotten around to talking about mine, but it's definitely a knife where the price is justified if you love it, and not if you don't. For me, this is my favorite reverse-flicking action on any knife I've ever handled. It's also got an AMAZING close, hair away from gravity shut, which is really cool for a "smaller" knife like this that can't rely on a fat heavy blade to accomplish that. I DO think it's a novelty piece when it comes to "value". It's cool to have essentially every deployment option available. Normally I don't like when a knife is a jack of all and a king of none, but I really do love the reverse flick, so I treat every other deployment option as a bonus after that. But you definitely have to love the design or love the deployment variety to justify the price. Honestly, the coolest thing about this, for me, is that it's made by QSP. I'm not aware of them being the OEM of choice for any other "USA designed" knife in production. This is a really great testament to what QSP could be capable of and this gives me confidence that, if they ever get into the $300-ish space, I won't be gambling on quality. Great review, as always.
It honestly has been growing on me through the video. love the design. Almost retro futurism-esque design but the price is high. I understand doing that to try and make their development money back and grow. If I had the cash, I'd definitely consider buying one. The atom logo is a nice touch too.
There are some cheaper ones on aliexpress :) You can get it in this sort of configuration with decent steel for $100+, or in Micarta for $30 with meh steel.
Perfect timing Nick. They just dropped at the time of this vid. I already have one and picked up A Zircuti kit for it. I agree about the blade stock. A hollow grind blade would be amazing. That’s for a great take down and review vid.
The nymble xl is the one I’m waiting to get my hands on. I’ve got very hands so this smaller one wouldn’t be comfortable. I love blades in the 3.5-3.75” range. Right now I’ve got a zt 0562 occupying my pocket and has for a while now.
I feel you, I had bought one of these on eBay and I couod tell it was a great knife, but it was just too small for me. EMP does make an XL version but it's not available right now. And I also just got my 0562ti in and I love it so good choice.
I love the deployment options, finger choil, and materials. I dislike the blade shape and the handle shape and the clip. I hoping for a future knife that is a touch longer, with a sheepsfooty blade, and a different clip. That clip might be OK, I don't own one, but it looks like a I wouldn't like how it would sit in my pocket. EMP have my attention for future knives though for sure. Thanks for the review.
I understand your gripe on the front flipper. I don't have this exact knife but I have a close one in design - the Kizer Cormorant. Everything else is great except the front flipper which feels as you describe the EMP. Great review on a good knife.
I haven't looked back at the Cormorant, but this one looks like it may work better with using the index finger rolled front-to-back instead of the index reaching over the top or using the thumb. I don't really have any experience with front flippers (and using the thumb for a front flipper has always looked awkward from the outside), been thinking about getting a Vosteed Thunderbird to try out a front flipper though (it seems to scratch some of the same multiple deployment fidget factor itch as the Cormorant).
@@narkfly I don't have many front flipping knives in my humble collection. But if you want to practice front flipping, you can get yourself a cheap Civivi Imperium. Very easy action and has thumbstuds too.
At this moment most microbrand knives designed in the US, but made in China, either with Reate/QSP/Bestech, in these materials seem to end up just below or just above €300. It’s just a matter of liking the design/features or not. I like this one personally.
The liner lock version of the Nymble is a nicer knife because it fixes many of the issues Nick mentions here. Better balance, no hotspots, no issues with pushing the lockbar during front flipper deployment. I know clones are frowned on, but the D2 and micarta liner lock clone of the Nymble is arguably superior to the original even without considering the much lower price. It just feels better in hand for some reason.
Bigtime agree, whatever china did with the clone of this knife they did it right. The brown micarta is just great, feels better than civivi micarta which is interesting.
Between materials and the amount of work for something like this between machining and hand finishing I feel this is very reasonable… then you have to factor in Oem pricing then resale and marketing… all factors add to the price. This is also a company so profit must be made! You will see lower pricing on manufacturers who make their own Knives (OEM) there has to be profit in each step… the materials are also very high end and they are getting harder and harder to get especially at high quality. Just because it’s not unique or super special drives the price… I feel the price is a little high but not astronomical. If this was USA made it would also be twice if not more the price
You can get a titanium liner lock knife anywhere between 80 dollars to 2000 dollars and honestly a lot of the time there isn’t much of a difference so… Atleast this one has unique opening mechanisms
@@stoner762x51 I have a co worker with a Rosie and I have a nymble you can tell the price difference within 2 seconds of holding the knife, not saying both knives aren’t great and honestly some may prefer the nymble in some ways but the Rosie is a killer action… almost too killer
I actually like the look of the partial frag pattern. It gives it a two tone look. All over frag patterns tend to look mildly annoying to me. I prefer it as a strip of texture.
Kinda uncool that a all the different knife channels purposely try to make knives unobtainable by nonstop making more content on things we already know exist and all want and make it sell out and inflate past the level of human comprehension. Thank you for your service to the community 🙏
Suprised to see you accept this knife, when he has made how many versions, only changing a blade shape. All made in the same ole m390, same as many others. But won't take a look at the 395, because of similar reasons. I like the Bridgeport knife alot, for a lefty the liner lock is great. Also titanium at that price, it also drops shut. Most new designers, all seem to cost 300+.
Larger hands here: Yes, it is easy to front flip with meat fingers. lol I have no issues atleast, But all front flippers are more prone to weirdness for different hands
Yeah I had GEN 1 #49 in frag but all I have left of that knife is the box 1 sticker and the pocket clip 😢 ( I had go to jail on a open carry pew pew charge) and got broken into and lost almost everything not including my mojo they took it to Even though I’m not a content creator but I had planes to take what I acquired and what I learned about it and turn that in to something palatable/digestible? hey that’s going to be a thing SORRY BUT I’M NOT TROLLING THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR TIME AND APPRECIATE YOUR THOUGHTS!!!!!!!

Nick, I enjoy your channel but you need to get some more affordable knives to review. A knife over $200 is not something many can afford to use and abuse as an EDC. Thanks.

you've got some damn good props from the shabazz himself! well done EMP!

Hi Nick, big fan, would love to see a review on the QSP worker, happy holidays!
I have wanted to check out one of the Nymble. It looks like a cool piece
Insightful and punny! Life is good. Thanks, Nick.

These are just tough to front flip effectively. You really have to be careful of your hand placement in relation to the lockbar

Is this the one where you deploy the blade and all the electronics in a 1 mile radius gets disabled (as mentioned on your chat with Metal Complex)?
I'm trying to add up why this is 300 dollars and I can't arrive at that solution. Huh.

Desperately close to 3 inches. Maybe should have made the blade a smidge shorter for those who live in a place with antiquated knife laws
