Loving the idea behind this series, but could you maybe stick to areas you are familiar with or actually spend a lot of time in? Don't really see a point in doing "a guide to ____" if you don't know the area well. Then it's just a vlog.
LOVE Brixton! It's always been cool and I lived there for 20 years! I recently moved away as couldn't afford to buy there and miss it so much! Like all London Boroughs, there are not so nice parts, but the majority of Brixton is vibrant, cool, busy and diverse. I loved living there and miss it!
Realy nice Places. But maybe you shout have done some research on the History of Brixton and how it has change in the last years. In the 1980 the resident (mostley black people) had to fight for there rights. I hope the Children of the residents from that days can now take the benefits.
brixton is an area with so many different cultures & a wide variety of people yet none of them were shown/explored in this video... a lot was skipped over smh. disappointed but not surprised.
I definitely agree, Brixton has such a great culture with so many communities that have moved into the area, leaving their stamp and I was looking forward to seeing it explored in this vlog. Unfortunately it wasn't.
EXACTLY! So much culture and history, but 'let's go find some healthfood' *sigh* Niomi gets a lot of hate because her content is pretty much just 'basic rich white girl activities' and deservedly so..
Ruby Rich White Girl? Well isn’t it convenient how because a woman’s Caucasian or appears to be somewhat financially stable-this makes them an easy target to insult for their life choices. What if I were to take your same insult and then turn it around to someone brown and poor “oh look...eating McDonalds again like a typical poor broken person”. Do you not realize how insulting and stigmatizing your comment is? I think her single mother raising her and being one of a small select amount of women entrepreneurs in Brighton area, as well as her grandmother who was single for quite some time....literally she’s surrounded by hard working women that have made their wealth. It’s hard earned. Exactly what do you expect her to do? Run into ethnic looking shops and comment on this ethnicity ? She’d be persecuted for making it seam that ethnicity is something to gawk at and comment on its smells or colours. Is she supposed to run up to someone that appears culturally different as well? It’s obvious she chose to check out things based on her ideal foods. Grow up
She posts things online, therefore she opens herself up to criticism (constructive or otherwise).. Yes you're right, I probably wouldn't comment on a poor person but let's be real here - Niomi's wealth is not *self made*. Her Mum is rich, her grandparents are rich, etc etc.. Yeah.. I'm sure they've never helped her out..? And she just so happens to be with a rich guy. *eye roll* Either way, I'm not interested in the rest of her family.. because the sheer amount of comments here show that it's really NOT just me who thinks it's nothing but pure gentrification here. It's not meant to be a personal insult, but these areas are historically low income ethnic minority areas so I really DO feel the anger from those minorities about seeing 'rich white vegan niomi' showing what their area is turning into, as opposed to showing what it's historically known for. And of course gentrification means higher cost of living, higher house prices etc etc, so yeah, I think people are right to be commenting on this.
Gentrification at its finest. 3 years ago people would be afraid to go to Brixton wow. Edit: I’ve read some of the comments on this comment and comment section. My comment is not a hate comment to Niomi by the way just a comment on how much Brixton has changed. I live near there and have seen the changes it’s crazy. Also I think I’ve written the word “comment” a lot here haha
Jess Hanne I agree completely. I lived in Streatham in the mid-80s and lived through the Brixton riots. I worked on Bond Street and had to get the tube to Brixton, then a bus to Streatham, sometimes after 10pm. Many were the scary incidents I experienced. I now live in Canada, but was in London two years ago and didn’t recognize it! I just wish that gentrification meant that the locals’ standard of living had risen and not that they’d been pushed out due to the rise in prices that doesn’t correspond with their income.
This is so interesting. I live in the US and was wondering if this place currently is not was it used to be. I was actually going to google about the neighborhood as I’m planning a trip to London soon. I understand where you are coming from with your comment.
Thanks Naomi! I live very close to Brixton and its cool seeing a few of the things I have been missing out on :) Really like your vlogs! Please keep going as iv recently moved to London and its great exploring new areas :D
Seriously, where did all the people from Brixton go when they were outpriced of their homes... And where do the people who were hanging around Brixton station all day hang now? London didn't need another Hipster/upper class area. It's a bit sad. (Edit : Not Niomi's fault, obviously, thanks for sharing your good plans Niomi)
Awesome series! 😍 Thank you for the video Niomi! Please continue! Next time I’m in London, I can use your tips! Looking for the vegan food will be much easier!
Thank you so much for doing this for us. I am in America and don't know much about the sites in your country. It will be so helpful when we visit. Thank you.
It was a poor area, with a great culture, history and ethnic diversity. People who now go in those lovely vegan places wouldn't have set a foot there. And now people who have lived there for years and years (sometimes 30 or 40) can't afford to live there anymore...
Looks a hive of activity around there Niomi, loads of lovely brightly coloured little cafes opening up. Looks such a nice place. I always love your foodie videos and think a lot of local business now are very tuned in to healthy delicious food. And love your friends 🐕 dog, so cute! x 😄
Does Senzala has a meaning in another language? Because in portuguese it was the name of the type of place that slaves would sleep in plantations... that restaurant’s name really got me worried.
Their website says 'The Senzalas were slave houses for plantations and farms in Brazil from the 16th to 19th centuries. It was from the Senzalas that much of Brazilian culture developed, such as Capoeira and popular dishes like Feijoada stew. We named our creperie ‘Senzala’ in tribute to those who formed our Brazilian roots and influences' ... still a bit weird to name it that
Good God! Im brazilian and that's possibly the worst name for anything!!! Such disrespect for our history even if these people didnt know that... time to change the name of this place RIGHT NOW
Just getting into all the trends lol plants etc. However, as a fashion youtuber you should not just be getting into ethical fashion but you should drop all the fast brands Mango etc. with the influence you have. It's not just cute, sustainable fashion, it is a necessity for our planet in order to save resources and improve people's lives, those who make your clothes
Everything she posts reeks of rich upper class white kid activities, just to unrelatable unless you're a hot 20-something in London with shit loads of cash for overpriced meals out multiple times a day..
forever jealous that you can walk in pretty much anywhere and have amazing vegan options. I haven't eaten out for over a year and I'm dying to go out to a restaurant or a dessert place and get something suitable for vegans. I live in a capital city and still, the vegan supply is RUBBISH :(
Happy about these places... more and more vegan food... more healthy and sustainable options. Just can feel the good and friendly vibe. Cant see the wrong side of that.
As someone who doesn't currently reside in the UK this actually made me want to visit Brixton. Gentrification in the form of communal gardens, food fridges and small, sustainable businesses is not a negative thing by any stretch.
That's a really good point smoothie, I hadn't considered that. It does appear that Brixton council is trying to support low income residents so they benefit from the renewed interest. Like helping setup small businesses? It seems counterintuitive for residents to want their suburbs to stay the same (i.e. be too dangerous to walk down the street) just so they can afford to live there.
When you said boiling I thought it must be really hot...but 30 degrees is not a high temperature at all in my city! In Beijing it can easily go up to 38 in the summer, and it really do feel like hell.
Do the people writing these salty messages realize people outside of the UK are also watching this? Who cares if this place was gentrified? I’m from Seoul and so many places have been gentrified and are now tourist hot spots. This is good content for tourists. Geez
Honestly, this isn't a true representation of Brixton. Anyone who went there after this would have a big surprise to greet them. She doesn't know the area, yet is giving a guide.
@@Ageerum You are so negative, she is not doing anything wrong. Why do you keep going on everyone's comments and hating on her? If you you do not like the idea of her giving a tour of Brixton why did you watch the video?
Love this series so much! Could you maybe do Richmond/ Twickenham? I am spending a Semester abroad there. Really appreciate your tips, as I am a vegan myself :)
Make sure you check out Kew Gardens - there's a lot to do around the I live richmond area! I live very near and often enjoy walking around Chiswick too!
It should be on mid to late July. Food, drink, music, stalls. I’m not sure if they still bring the farm animals, or the arena where they had entertainment. Thank you for taking me back to my childhood home.
Thank you so much for doing your London series!!! I’m so excited because I’m from Florida and have a fascination with England ♥️♥️♥️ I’ve only been once but it’s my dream to go back someday so this just makes the day dreaming ever more vibrant haha 🥰
It’s like she wanted to explore a typically poor suburb to give the less fortunate some air time on her channel with little understanding of how entitled, racist and classist it seems. It’s extremely cringe. I do think you had good intentions with this Niomi, but please try to research and talk about the history of the places in this series
popcorn popcorn does she need to? Could she just not be having a day out? Actually I think it’s fresh and just a generally nice thing to do- giving different areas of london nice airtime
it has become a up and coming area so she wanted to check it out! She doesnt need to ask u for permission for it! She doesnt owe anyone an explanation because she checked some shops out and ate at a restaurant .
A+A Of course she could just have "a day out", but then I wouldn't call it "a guide to ___". Then it's just a vlog, isn't it? You can't really give any good recommendations on where to go, what to avoid or show any hidden gems if you've never or rarely been to that place.
racist? entitled? classist? Yes it would've been good if she explored the history more of brixton, but don't throw those kind of words around so carelessly. It's insulting to those people who have in fact experienced racism for instance and undermines the issue.
I've been watch nioimi since yeeaaaars ago and now i just realize that her voice is change.. i dont know like.. more heavy than before.. she sounds more mature, does anyone notice or it just me?
Niomi, I really don't know how you tolerate some of these people in the comments. I'd block and delete so many! It doesn't matter what video you put out, there's always a bunch of people who pull you apart for it. They can't just watch the video and then move onto the next without the need to criticize you. You're one of the most positive people I know of, shame others don't see that. I hope you never let any of these a-hole comments ever get to you. Keep being you ♥
Rachel B •Farmiga Fan• I really like Niomi and I agree, she’s one of the most positive and sincere people on here, but this video is disappointing and I simply want to inform her and others. There’s no hate here just discussion!
They’re personally holding her accountable for the city planners moving funds to improve the living conditions and make small business lenders and owners want to invest in the area with its shrinking economic stability .... she literally got her camera and visited an area and found food she can eat. Somehow she’s now some upper crust white vegan hispter that is the cause of all evils because she took a video of an area she’s not poor enough to film in. It’s amazing these people actually have friends which is why they get enjoyment from hating on people online. I’d love to see her hit back at some of these trolls. They love nothing more than to bitch.
Constance Wright Exactly! They can't just watch the video or move on to another if they dislike it. Always criticising her no matter what it's about. She can't win. Given that i don't see her respond to those ridiculous comments, I'm hoping she just laughs and scrolls right past them.
Rachel B •Farmiga Fan• These people are the most offended and irrational. They’re essentially saying that she’s not relatable yet they stick around for each video to say the same insults over and over because they want a response. Nice things happen to nice people...simple. I’m glad I’m not the only one wanting to call them out.
If you can't walk on the pavement in your bare feet, it's probably wise no to let your dog walk on it. Really mean to drag that poor dog around in the heat all day.
OMG you keep saying I'm eating "CRAP" instead of"CREPE"!! I keep thinking you're eating chunk of "crap".. you know like dogshit. It's a crepe girl, not a crap.
Loving the idea behind this series, but could you maybe stick to areas you are familiar with or actually spend a lot of time in? Don't really see a point in doing "a guide to ____" if you don't know the area well. Then it's just a vlog.

Wow I grew up in Brixton, it’s changed so much.
Hayley's World same, its full of white middle class vegans now, its such a shame. But I live in Catford now.
Realy nice Places. But maybe you shout have done some research on the History of Brixton and how it has change in the last years. In the 1980 the resident (mostley black people) had to fight for there rights. I hope the Children of the residents from that days can now take the benefits.

I lived 2 years in London not far from Brixton and I used to go to Brockwell Park as well. Good memories
I’m planning a visit to London so this is really useful! Thank you for this video Niomi! Have a lovely Sunday ❤️

Also disappointing to see Naomi has only really acknowledged and replied to the positive comments on this video...

So glad to hear you are interested in sustainable fashion!
Would love a Primrose Hill or Hampstead Heath guide!
Thanks for the suggestions!
Loving the London series, Niomi! Hope to see more soon...East End, Primrose Hill, Camden perhaps? X
Thanks Naomi! I live very close to Brixton and its cool seeing a few of the things I have been missing out on :) Really like your vlogs! Please keep going as iv recently moved to London and its great exploring new areas :D
This is such a great and interesting video! Love to see all this. Makes me wanna explore!😊😊❤❤
I love this kind of London vlog.
Knowing what Brixton used to be, and seeing an upper class white vegan 'explore it' makes me cringe slightly?

London didn't need another Hipster/upper class area. It's a bit sad. (Edit : Not Niomi's fault, obviously, thanks for sharing your good plans Niomi)
She’s not even a Londoner ... she’s from Brighton!
THANK YOU!!!! I had to grow up and go to school in London to get that name, and people just turn up and call themselves it!
Love it! So inspired now to head back to England for holidays
That’s why London is my favourite city! All the options, really forward and innovative. And yummy. Can’t wait to be back one day! x
I absolutley love these videos 😍 planing a trip to England next year and this is such an amazing inspiration :) lots of love from germany 😍♥️

Woah didn't know Brixton has been this gentrified !!
Maays it’s shocking isn’t it
I told myself the same. It's shocking!
LOVE Brixton! It's always been cool and I lived there for 20 years! I recently moved away as couldn't afford to buy there and miss it so much!

This is a tiny fraction of Brixton 😂 believe me the rest isn’t like this
I never knew Brixton was this cool!
I love these guide videos !
Thanks so much

please tell your friend that pepe does NOT need walking in this heat.. his poor paws will have been burning all day.
Georgia totally agree
Looks a hive of activity around there Niomi, loads of lovely brightly coloured little cafes opening up. Looks such a nice place. I always love your foodie videos and think a lot of local business now are very tuned in to healthy delicious food. And love your friends 🐕 dog, so cute! x 😄
***GENTRIFIED BRIXTON a privileged white girls guide
haaaaaaaaaaah gentrification has arrived
I love this! I'm from US never been to U.K. But it's always been a dream of mine. Thank you for showing off your beautiful city!
hi niomi really miss hearing from you would love to know how your doing and do more blogs, love from lorraine
Niomi did you buy your bracelet from portugal? My sister brought me one that looks like yours from there
If you want to get into ethical fashion you should watch the documentary "The True Cost" and check out the website The Good Trade.
We named our creperie ‘Senzala’ in tribute to those who formed our Brazilian roots and influences' ... still a bit weird to name it that
Do any Brazilians work there in a management role?
The thing is that in Brazil we would never name a restaurant like that
Exactly. That's because white people have little to no understanding of the world so they often miss the mark.
Good God! Im brazilian and that's possibly the worst name for anything!!! Such disrespect for our history even if these people didnt know that... time to change the name of this place RIGHT NOW
Okay, this one made me want to travel to London! :)
yay! You should!
What is the color (name) of your sunglasses?
Just getting into all the trends lol plants etc. However, as a fashion youtuber you should not just be getting into ethical fashion but you should drop all the fast brands Mango etc. with the influence you have. It's not just cute, sustainable fashion, it is a necessity for our planet in order to save resources and improve people's lives, those who make your clothes
Thank you for the shop!!! I need to check it out! Do you know any other ethical clothes shops ?
Love this! Will definitely visit this are the next time I go to London :)
That poor dog's paws on the pavement!
Brixton - a rich white vegan’s guide to gentrification
My favorite youtuber 💓
aw thanks so much
Brixton is so cool! Love this kind of vlog love you xx
Great video!
This video reeks of Gentrification...
true my moms from brixton, I have to agree with you
Everything she posts reeks of rich upper class white kid activities, just to unrelatable unless you're a hot 20-something in London with shit loads of cash for overpriced meals out multiple times a day..
forever jealous that you can walk in pretty much anywhere and have amazing vegan options. I haven't eaten out for over a year and I'm dying to go out to a restaurant or a dessert place and get something suitable for vegans. I live in a capital city and still, the vegan supply is RUBBISH :(
Thanks, i wanna continue my study there too. Britania, famous name. 🌐🇬🇧♥️
That looks awesome! Thanks for sharing. Another place to add to my list when visiting the UK :)
Definitely try and visit! It was so fun getting to know the area

Thanks! Yes will do
Awesome vlog! 👌❤️
As someone who doesn't currently reside in the UK this actually made me want to visit Brixton. Gentrification in the form of communal gardens, food fridges and small, sustainable businesses is not a negative thing by any stretch.
Well It raises rent prices for the people who have lived in the area for years and then they have to move
smoothie criminal welcome to 2018. this is happening in every part of the world
