Thanks for the video Dale. Words that had to be said, and by the way I really like this format of discussion. Loving it!
Thanks Teik!!!!
Excellent content as always!! Thank you Sir
I just like boots! I don't get mixed up in debates, feuds, politics and etc. Specifically, I like these boots. I can't afford them but I can certainly admire from afar.
Great review and commentary!
I’ve got some vintage Chippewa cibola boots that look like those . Thick supple leather . Love ‘em .
Nice review Dale! Someday I’ll get a pair of his engineers when I find the right makeup
Thanks brother!! Would love to see you in some JL engineers!!!
We’ll done!!!👍👏👏👏 just heard about this stuff about not made in China and I don’t think he was picking on individuals but the labour situation in China in general. I think he respects the individual maker’s themselves and a lot of the Indonesian and Chinese makers actually follow and like John Lofgren boots from what I see on IG so I don’t know either way what is in his mind but I just love the boots man! Let’s just all try to get along. They’re boots. If we can’t let little things like this go we are doomed as a race. Those are my thoughts. I support everyone who makes quality boots period. Including Lofgren. If the Chinese and Indonesian makers let it go so should we. Just my opinion which I’m entitled to. Thank you Dale buddy!!!
Well said Mario!! And thank YOU for sending me these to review!!! Was great getting to become more familiar with Lofgren!!
Very thoughtful discussion. Appreciate the look of the engineer boots, but at my age don’t think I can pull it off. As usual always learn watching your channel.
Thanks Steven!!!
I’d think the opposite, Engineer boots seem timeless, just need the right outfit and attitude
My black donkey punchers are hands down my favorite pair of boots. I definitely agree on the half size down, as S&S suggested to me.
Awesome!!! Thanks my friend!!
JL Combat Boots are my favorite boots in my collection.
Very nice boots, I do not own pair yet but considering getting a pair of Shinki Hikaku service boots.
I knew John growing up, days of Thrift stores, Italian Scooters, & Jamaican/ rare Soul music.
That is so cool!!!!
*Gonna invest in a boots shelf like the one you have to piss off my wife.*
This is a great video and discussion on John Lofgren as a company. I personally don’t buy into the belief that there is a perfect boot or silhouette because that is a matter of aesthetics. In other words, it is purely a matter of taste. Can a boot be objectively better? To an extent I do believe they can but only so long as the purpose of the boots are taken into consideration. For example, I love Oxford boots and service boots but o wouldn’t wear the latter with my suits nor the former with a pair of Jean shorts. Can someone try to argue one of these styles are better or more perfect than the other? Of course but that would be a pointless debate because they’re made for very distinct purposes. I’m just glad we have access to such brands despite going into a financial realm that only the financially secure or financially risky would welcome. I can’t but shall admire them through the lenses of others who share them online.
Well said brother! We gotta cut them some slack….And wow, these are beautiful. The combat boot is growing on me even though I previously always thought they looked dumb and awkward.
The toe is very bulbous but if the size is right I think they’re a hit
@@DalesLeatherworks Is it a more bulbous toe than the 1000 mile?
The Lofgren Combats look like elevated Iron Rangers imo
Very interesting 🤔 . I like your videos man. Saludos brother
Thanks for your thoughts and the review of these great boots! I think this video was kind of extraordinary. I have to confess I love JL-Boots and own amongst others his Combat Boots in Timber aaand black! 😄 Thanks again for your channel and your passion! 👍🏻
Thanks so much Elmar!!!!
Nicely done! Really love the stitching on those.
Thanks brother!!!
Ah, Quadrophenia. A great film. 1960's MODs, a very British film. I'd recommend it. The soundtrack is great, too, mostly by The Who.
Random fun question. If you could design a coffee mug shaped like a boot, what would it look like?
Can you share the link of the podcast episode?…as I always have issues with my sizing in boots,
Hey Dale, what are the shiny green and tan boots all the way on the right on your shelf?
Stunning boots just awesome!!!!😍😍😍😍
Thanks brother!!!!
How about some Wellington boot's
Hello,
very informative and well-made video. I have a question after about 30 seconds in the video, are you wearing a very nice gray pants, who made the pants and what is the name of the model.
Thanks and regards Robby
Thanks man! Those are 484 gray denims from JCREW!
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos. Do you prefer chrome or veg tan if you had to pick?
Both!!!!
Do you recomend same size then red wing iron ranger, truman and grant stone in combat boot?
I wear 8.5 in all of them but the GS seem to fit the largest!
How’s that toe room width wise? That’s my biggest problem with shoes/boots.
It’s got plenty of toe room!
I wear wolverine 1000 mile in the 9.5
My sneaker size is 10.5
Would (when they become available) going 9.5 on the John lofgrens be a way to do it?
I’m on the email list to get an alert when they’re available
Yes Wolverine and JL sizing I believe are consistent
What kind of backpacks are those? Those are beautiful
I made those! About to release a batch of them on my website!
It’s Quadrophee-nia and it’s based on The Who album of the same name featuring Sting. It’s about the fashion culture of the “MODS” in the early sixties when popular adolescent music was moving away from the classic Bill Haley rock and roll to Motown the Beatles and of course The Who. I know this because I lived it in its late 70’s early 80’s revival with the coming of Bands like Secret Affair and the Jam and separate but accommodated ska music of the Specials and Untouchables. Narrow lapel three button suits from the thrift stores, penny loafers and the mandatory army parka was the uniform. Suit and penny loafers for style and the army parka, decorated preferably with the logo of your favorite band or classic red white and blue target, was for riding your Vespa or if you were really cool the harder to find Lambretta LI 150. If you haven’t watched the movie you should it’s interesting, the music is great and actually is one of the better coming of age stories ever told, though I might be a little biased.
Lofgren is in the higher end Goodyear welt / handwelted market and they know who the players/competitors are. The people behind the Lofgren brand know that many new and up and coming players in the scene are based in Indonesia and China. So given this, I think the problem with Lofgren's old post "not made in Indonesia/ China" is that it's not a remark targeting the GENERAL work conditions of these respective countries. It's a marketing stunt to downplay their competitors based in those countries. Seen this way, it is offensive and upsetting.
where did you get those storage cubbies for your boots in the background? Could really use one of those

What pants are you wearing at the 00:28 part of video?
Those are from grease point work wear 😎
Does Nicks have any engineer boots ?
Yes its called the nicks renegade!
Hi Dale, very good description. Thanks. I would however disagree on the sizing: For me personally, the JL as well as the Vibergs are a full size down my Brannock. As is with Red Wings.
I believe arch height and foot volume need to be considered more when ordering boots.
I’m a 7E Brannock but always wear Size 8 running shoes.
For Viberg I went off everyone’s recommendations and ordered Size 7 and had to return then because they were way to small.
For White’s I did the same thing and ordered smaller based on recommendations and yet again way too small.
I ordered 7.5E for my John Lofgren’s so we will see when I get them.
From what I gather now if it’s a D Width I need to go to a Size 8D
But if it’s an E Width then I need to go 7.5E.
I have a high volume foot.
I really hope all the heritage/GYW boots aren’t a short-lived fashion thing…because I’ve got about 50 years worth of boots to wear. 😅
Hahaha you and me both!!
That’s how I justify my boot purchases, thinking -this if for the rest of my life!
@@albertoclonado Same. I mean Ive had some crappy shoes last 5-10 years. So it’s an easy argument to say the good stuff will last a lifetime.
Amen, we’ll said. There are great stuff that come out of China, but it’s no secret that for the most part, safety and labor laws are not of chinas concerns, let alone how they steal designs.
JL didn't make a mistake and should never apologize for having the ethics and standards others only pay lip service to.
John Lofgren boots are worth every penny.
Shout out to buckleguy
Never Apologize to the Mob!
Those look like red wings with better soles
Dont sell yourself short😏 You are beautiful in your moms eyes. Nice boots btw.
😂
Perhaps there’s space to move beyond the implied undertones to dismissing “Made in China”. The workers in China (and they are not necessarily Chinese) are people too, just making a living. We should honour that someone invisible on the other side of the world spent their time and energy making something for us who are relatively much luckier social economically wise to enjoy. Instead perhaps we should critique the consumerist, exploitative capitalist systems and cultures that perpetuate these issues we find problematic. Perhaps we can find ways to address these issues. To leverage off dismissing “Made in China” just to elevate the perception of our work seems to be missing the point.
these boots are high quality but what mr.lofgren did was messed up... he was actively being rude about chinese and indonesian artisans and also criticizing wesco for using dr.sole soles... he was also having a spat with the owner of dr.sole... if he is such a patriot why does he make his boots in japan..he should start making it in USA like roleclub,redwing,kreosote....he uses vibram soles which are made in usa for ethical purposes...but where does the rubber come from...it comes from SE Asia.. he also uses italian leather where they use migrant labour and dont pay them at all.. it is all documented..he also lives in california where they pay 1dollar to incarcerated fire fighters.. you can find all those documentaries are DW..
