How to Add a Border in Crochet (for single crochet, double crochet and C2C)

  • If a crocheted border does nothing else, it cleans up your edges and helps to hide minor imperfections. Always start your border with the main color from your piece. Do a single crochet border FIRST and then go back through and add whatever decorative border you like. Here's how to add that foundation border row to a single crochet piece, a double crochet piece AND the more difficult c2c.

    Whoa! The boarder on the C2C is brilliant!!!! I have made 4 C2C blankets, since lockdown, in NC. They are sitting on my fireplace hearth, waiting for a proper boarder! I am so excited, now I know how to nicely finish each one, and wrap for Christmas! My husband will be so pleased, to have the hearth cleared in time for Fall wood storage! 😉 I am so grateful to have found your video! Thank you!

    Can you recommend a wider edge to go on top of that for a thicker border? Would you crochet into the chains if you added more? Or go around the two chains?

  • @cathyfinnesgard4013
    @cathyfinnesgard4013 3 года назад +1

    In my experience, a single crochet is a bit shorter than one stitch tall. This method works, perhaps, in mixed stitch rows, but not in large blankets made all in SC. In those projects I have found it necessary to use my math skills and figure out how many rows and stitches to an inch. Once that’s done, I calculate how many stitches I need to skip along the side and at what interval. This process is more tedious, but it keeps the side from stretching out.

    I would love to see you do a "project" tutorial, not just a stitch tutorial, on C2C or maybe a "Pitfalls to avoid in C2C" like I've mentioned below. Yours in this video seems so perfect. I love the way you do the border in C2C, so much easier.
    My first c2c project was called "Covered In Cats Afghan". The problem I ran into was my project seemed to either get wider (sort of V shaped) when turned to the corner in towards you or if you even up the "L" shape if seems to appear to sag in the middle. I also noticed my row lines didn't seem to be even or line up. I have watched so many stitch tutorials but mine still seems to come out wrong. I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong.
