Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Watching your videos about Antarctica makes be tear up. I got back from Antarctica in December 2019 after having been a part of the first high school student group in North America to travel there. There's no way I can describe our adventure other than a life changing experience. It wasn't only the marvellous landscapes and the abundant wildlife that has made me so attached to Antarctica, it was the people we met on our ship, the stories we heard, and the stories we have. Antarctica was a big step for me in regards to overcoming fear. It was both the longest and farthest I have been from my home. I also have a deathly phobia of throwing up and was even considering not going on the trip because of the Drake. It took courage for all of us to wave goodbye to our parents at the gate, but we did it anyway because we knew we were in for the adventure of a lifetime. After coming back from Antarctica I feel like I can do anything. Due to the fact that I overcame so many fears on that trip, and I did it alongside my wonderful group of friends, I am not scared of anything anymore. My love for adventure as well as my excitement about the future has grown immensely because of the expedition. I’ve started planning things like trips with my step dad up to Alaska in our tiny tin boat. That idea was shot down pretty quick, but the sense of adventure is still there. Along with this, I have also become a lot more grateful and feel a lot more fulfilled in my life. The other day my friends asked, “If you were to die right now, would you feel satisfied?” They were all quick to reply with “no,” saying they felt they had not accomplished all they wanted to accomplish yet. For me, after coming back from Antarctica, one of the best experiences of my life, my reply was simply “yes.” Even though I am only seventeen, I would feel satisfied with my life if I were to die now because I’ve had a pretty epic life.
Before the opportunity to go to Antarctica arose, I saw it as a place I would never get to visit, an unattainable dream. When I first saw the poster on the wall at school, a photo of a man surrounded by massive icebergs and kayaking alongside a humpback whale with bold white letters across the top that read: ANTARCTICA, my immediate reaction was doubt. I didn’t believe there was enough money to send me to the other side of the world and even if there was, I didn’t believe I had enough bravery to do it. But there was something that day, a sliver of hope that made me take down the poster and stuff it in my backpack.
Even once the unattainable dream became a reality and we were gearing up to go on the trip that was mere weeks away, I didn’t fully realize how Antarctica would impact me. I still saw it as simply an “awesome place to visit.” It was not until I was actually in Antarctica, surrounded by my newfound friends and the same massive icebergs I had seen on the poster a year earlier that I realized it was so much more than just “a place to visit.” It was a place that brought about growth and connection and love like I have never known before. As Apsley Cherry-Garrard, a historic Antarctic explorer once said, “In Antarctica you get to know people so well that in comparison you do not seem to know the people in civilisation at all.” I was humbled and amazed by Antarctica and its ability to, in some way, change the life of every single person who goes down there. In fact, I found one must be warned before travelling to Antarctica, as it comes with a slew of unanticipated features such as newfound bravery, uncontrollable laughter, exhaustion, exhilaration, seasickness, peace of mind, inspiration, lifelong friendships, difficult goodbyes, and the forever yearning to go back.
Sorry for the long message! I basically just wanted to say you did a wonderful job of catching the essence of Antarctica in your videos. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Isn't Antarctica just wonderful?

Thank you all for the love on this vlog! It's definitely one of our favorites we've ever made, so we're glad the feeling is mutual :) There are a couple FAQs in this comment section, so I thought I'd post the answers here for anyone else wondering!! -
1 Q: How did you fly your drone in Antarctica when it's illegal there?
A: IAATO requires you to have a drone license in order to fly it legally (they make ALL the rules to protect Antarctica!). Thankfully, one guide on our ship had the license and let us use the footage he got of our trip! So any drone footage in this series is thanks to him. You find the link to his instagram in the description.
2 Q: Why did you have to disinfect your boots?
A: We stepped in the pink disinfectant both when leaving and getting back on the ship. This is for multiple reasons. We visited a new island or part of the continent everyday, and so disinfecting on the way out was to prevent cross contaminating between places, and also so we didn't bring anything from the ship onto land via our boots. Then when embarking, we cleaned our boots mainly to get the penguin poop off 😂
    Hope this helps!

The pacing of Kara & Nate can go two ways:
    A. Goes fast because the thrill makes us lose track of time.
