  • Hey guys for all the questions and video suggestions! It’s great getting some feedback for what you guys want to see.
For this morning I do a quick ride on the West Side trails and talk a little bit of history of Lethbridge.
If anything else comes to mind feel free to ask.

Thanks buddy! I’m going to try to get in front of the camera a bit more often. The colder rides aren’t too bad as long as you dress for it. On the plus side, you don’t sweat like crazy haha

Nice vid Ivan, and interesting to hear some of the local history - adds another dimension. You could consider sometimes just filming all/part of the ride and overdubbing the commentary later, which would allow you to focus on the trail more - just a thought. As for film length, I think 10 - 15 min is ideal; any longer and some folks might not have time to watch it all in one sitting and skip to shorter vids instead. I'm enjoying your early morning rides - tempted to try it myself as the days shorten.

Thanks David! I’m happy you enjoyed the video and the bit of history! I think your right with the film length, my rides aren’t as action packed as the professionals so I think that 10-15min is about perfect.
I have been thinking about overdubbing the commentary, I might give it a shot as long as I can figure out the editing piece. I don’t want to be spending a ton of time editing but I’ll see how it goes! Thanks for the tips!

We called it The Muff in the mid 90’s!

Same here up until a few weeks ago! A friend of mine spoke to one of the original builders. I think his name was Al if I remember right. He moved away some time ago. Turns out the original name for The Muff was Bobsled. The trail opened up/was completed and people started calling it The Muff a few months later. Since the city is sanctioning trails they didn’t like the “dirty” name so the LTA contacted the original builder to see what he wanted to name it, he said the first name it had was Bobsled. It was nice of the city to at least check with the LTA to see what trail users would like as a Re-name.

Me too! I live in bear and cougar country and I’m always sure something is coming up behind me!

Haha yeah I get that feeling every now and then but I’ve been doing it for so long now that feeling went away for the most part.

We have Cougars around here, they’re not as common as the mountains but still here. No bears though, I think I would be a bit more cautious if I was in an area with bigger/scarier wildlife!

The trail rating seems different all over the place but I guess depends if it’s xc or downhill etc!

I know what you mean. I can see how it can fluctuate. You have places with a big mtb community that use the IMBA rating scale where things all make sense. Then there are smaller communities with newly sanctioned trails and I think a lot of those places will rate things more difficult then what they are. Then you have Trailforks where I could make my own trail, post it and call it whatever I feel is appropriate. When the admin approves the trail they can change the rating but again it depends on the area and if that area has a trail group etc.
Then you can have a trail that’s basically a blue but has a bunch of black features. Sometimes they’re rated for the features and sometimes they’re not.
