Johnny, I've seen a lot of battery powered mower videos, and those who say they want the power that a gas mower has, they wouldn't want to put money on it. One man cut waist high grass/weed filled pasture and it kept going. Just putting it out there for you. May you have a blessed day.

The EPA is after gas mowers and the price will have to come down for the average home owner, however, most home owners don't need a machine that big. For a pro, for certain clients, this is a selling point. I love the machine and appreciate your time on this.
    Great vid,

Glad to see that you are testing out the All electric Toro Revolution series Grandstand mower. I agree, at 33k, it is not for me as well. I’ve looked into the Battery Bower Lawn equipment, and in my opinion the technology is not there yet. This is not to say it will never be there, but as I try to look at the total picture of the Battery revolution from getting the minerals to the finished product, and then at the grid and getting the power to the machine. I don’t believe the economics is there.
But thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts on battery power lawn equipment.

Battery is great for quick and easy tasks, very convenient. I have Makita line trimmer, blower, chainsaw, and sawsall 36 volt option. The only downsides are battery life and the environmental costs associated with manufacturing and disposal. Add in that charging the battery still relies upon the reliable coal/oil/natural gas, (unless nuclear is an option) the pollution "advantage" doesn't exist, but doesn't mean that a solution could be found in the near future. $30-33k is a definite shock/barrier for ownership.

Now that price on 33k is ok like you said is ok if you had major commercial (15-25) to make that money back to pay for this zero-turn. Maybe in time the price will be more affordable for commercial customers and residential customers. Thanks for the info Johnny 👍🏾.

I like battery equipment/ tools and Toro’s battery operated mower is cool as well, but it’s definitely not economical for the general small lawn care business as you stated. The electric grid alone is in question given the recent push for new electric battery powered technolog. It’s profound how almost two years ago gas powered equipment was economical and a clear choice for most businesses. I do complain about the higher cost of fuel because it’s unnecessary. I am a realist and I understand that even if I was to raise my rates, my customers will only pay so much before they go elsewhere. I do have loyal customers, and I appreciate them all, but I know I am definitely not cheap and when it comes between my customers affording household bills or paying me so I can pay mine, their gonna choose theirs over mine, and I thoroughly understand that.

  • @josephdykes1820

I would highly recommend anyone with battery equipment to install solar panels and use solar generators to recharge batteries throughout the day. U can install them on the trailor or a shed. You only need to spend 1k to 1.5k for a good system to get rhat offgrid power.

Cost of fuel is $4.25 x 8 gallons / day x 4 days a week on average or about $550 a month for 7 months a year to mow. Looking at financing on a 42-month 0% APR loan the monthly payment delta from a $12k gas mower to a $30k battery mower is about $400. Looks about breakeven to me to go to battery if you apply the monthly operational fuel savings to the other 5 months of payments (depending on region you live in). Something to chew on for those pointing out the up front costs.

You better have one hell of a contract to make it work. Any contract paying that kind of money probably is going to require three of those mowers, plus you'll need additional accounts. Calculate all you want, gas will go back down again. It's a cycle. I have battery equipment, but I'm not paying stupid prices and working for the equipment. It's the other way around. Is the 12-14 hour charge time from a standard home outlet? If so, that puts it around 15-20 kwh for the battery pack. Not sure what electric prices are, but let's assume 20c/kwh so that's about $4 to charge the mower. I would certainly hope they would offer a Level 2 charging setup for 220v to speed up the charge time. At (my guess) of about $20k higher then an equivalent commercial mower, that is still a lot to make up in fuel savings, and ongoing maintenance savings. I know you like the battery stuff, so curious to see if you think this is something you would add to the arsenal or not.

Being in the tech industry The thing with batteries is that you can't rush the speed to charge them. High amperage to a battery will degrade the cells of the battery. That's why it takes time to charge. Electronics are fragile in the sense of long term. Resistors tend to burn out on circuit boards from high resistance over time or get corrosion from moisture. But it's not much you can do. Many pc boards tend to be infused in protective gel but sometimes it still isn't 100 percent.i seen pc boards still burn out a cap or Resistor while in gel.
But to get electric some where there is coal cooking to generate the voltage to homes across the state so gas is still being used.

LOL $33,000 !!!! LOL I'm so glade I bought my 2 Mean Green electric mowers when they were $18,000 each 3 years ago. I get 23-26 properties on a charge with 1 Mean Green. That works out to be 1-1/2 days for me. My competitors are mad at me because my prices are lower than theirs but my mowers paid for themselves after the 2nd year with gas savings and very very very little maintenance costs. I charge them up with my solar system and battery backup at home. My solar system is a DIY system so my costs were 1/3 retail. When I factor in my solar costs over 20 years and KWh need to charge ALL my commercial Lawn equipment it costs me $0.98 a day to charge EVERYTHING!! Sorry for the guys that didn't jump in early !!! It's going to cost you now WOW!!!!

What are mulching kits and what do you use them for?

    • @Bladesofgrasslawncare
      @Bladesofgrasslawncare  2 года назад +1

the mulch kit essentially recycles the lawn clippings as you mow, spreading them back onto the yard with each pass. This eliminates the need to rake, collect and bag your leftover lawn clippings.

My only issue would be the price. Ain’t no way I’m paying 33k for a mower that size.
I am surprised you got 13 yards out of 1 charge tho. Technology is coming along way. But it would years, probably a decade for those prices to come down.

This technology has a place in life now.
    Now.
That being said - battery tech is going to have to advance before it is nearly ready to become a mainstay on par with internal combustion power.
Besides the prohibitive price to consumers - the carbon footprint for motor manufacturing is large.
The carbon footprint for battery manufacturing is beyond huge, it is mammoth.
A completely different approach is going to be needed for power cells.
And whatever power cell tech we end up with needs to be able to retrofit existing systems….and be recyclable.
No other way to proceed, and still meet all the mandates being flung at the fossil fuel controversy.
