It also uses this tech called Digital Molecular Matter , which makes objects in the game break and deform realistically. DMM and Euphoria should have been the future for video games. I've just recently discovered that Natural Motion (the company that created Euphoria) Is no longer going to be licensing Euphoria out to developers. From what I gather, they're doing that so they can solely focus on making mobile games. I'm not sure what that means for R* in the future, but it's pretty disappointing.

yeah except there's dozens of cars falling through the map/clipping through buildings in this video the physics were much more 'robust' for its time and is arguably better looking than like.. gta5, but it does have its flaws 19:20 there's a floating car in the middle of the road 21:02 if you look at the cars down the road, they just fly straight through the wall, there's a boat flying through the map and into space, as well they likely limited the physics collision checks to a certain radius around the player to reduce performance impact, so anything outside the radius just flies straight through the map. genius in normal scenarios, though it really shows when cars are set to fly at mach 10 speeds.
funnily enough, the reason why that car is floating there is because it was out of physics distance because the cars fly so far, so quickly, they reach the border of the "stop having physics" radius and just freeze midair, never to update again even if inside the radius again

the taxi ads are what happens when you enable "godmode" on cars. if something breaks off, the game repairs it instantly, only for it to break off again. this happens many times a second and can result in a street becoming flooded with car doors.
Consoles especially ps3 and x360 had a limited space. Gta 5 used more graphics, so less space for physics, had to dumb down like 70% to get those graphics run smooth too

God, we REALLY took the car crushing physics in this game so for granted. GTA 4 was peak GTA, and the kids who got into GTA with GTA 5 have no idea what they missed out on. What a legendary game for its time. Damn.

Fr, before I read the title I thought the thumbnail was from Beamng
False. The damage and physics were altered only in the new PS4 and PC versions of the GTA V game due to the first person mode. Obviously as you can see in the beginning of the video, Niko's head is clipping through the dented roof of the taxi, which would not bode well with first person viewing mode. The original GTA V has this damage and crushing physics, the game as it released in 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360
Tbf SA was peak but gta4 was the last decent gta game, gta 5 disappointed me so much im skipping 6
