For those who want to match with their date, don't wear a vest, it ruins the look of the tuxedo; instead, I'd leave it for the corsage and boutonniere. Keep it black and white. Trust me, I saw a lot of guys wearing tuxedos with a colored vest and it just threw away the look. I got another idea, instead of wearing a tuxedo jacket, wear a colored vest that matches your date. If you feel insecure about being the only guy in a vest, tell some of your friends to do that to and go in a group. That way, you can all save some money. I rented my tux and it looked great, but I had to pay $160. My friends did wore vests to prom and it looked great because they matched with their date and they dress up the vest by wearing a bow tie. It looked nice because they went as a group. Three dudes, wearing vests that matches their date, they saved a lot of money, and they looked incredible.
1. I feel like a black suit isn't considered "too formal" when you are in high school. When do you get into the workplace, it is, but not in high school. You might not want to be that ONE guy who is wearing dark grey instead of a tux.
2. A Pocket square would make it look more formal, not less
3. Black velvet slippers are too odd for a guy in high school, and I think adds to the problem that you addressed earlier in your article about mens fashion becoming feminine, slippers I feel like fall into that category. For someone in high school, for sure go with a black lace up. If you aren't willing to invest in a tuxedo, chances are slim you will spend money on slippers.
Thats just what I think! I am glad you are addressing issues for younger men too!
Even if your first point is true, I won't waste money over a black suit just for the prom. Moreover, your first suit should NEVER be a black one, it should be either navy or charcoal and I'm pretty sure that most high school students don't even own a suit (if they do, it's probably a black one...)
I have a really nice slim suit that's in between charcoal and light grey. Could I wear that to senior prom instead of a tux with a bow tie?

I have a wedding to attend to in about a month and I was wondering if it would be appropriate to wear khaki chinos with a navy blazer along with a pocket square and a dress shirt. That sounds appropriate. HHowever depending on theformality of the wedding you might run the risk of being a little underdressed. in my opinion, to be safe id suggest for your to wear a navy suit, white dress shirt, and go tieless

I wouldnt reccomend that. Usually it ends up making a formal tux look tacky. If you watch my how ot wear a tux video i explain why men should keep it simple and just go black and white.

I bought a suit in high school but hadn't stopped growing. About a year later the thing didn't fit and the tailor wasn't able to add on fabric. it was a waste of money.

I'd still rent. You can gain or lose weight throughout the years. If you think renting is a waste, buying a tux is even more of a waste.

It’s bothered me for years. The word is cummerbund not cummerband. And yes you should be wearing one (or a vest) if you wear a tuxedo. The purpose here is to hide the waistband so you look like you are one tall individual.
