Happened to me when i lost my dad. A day after he died, his family people came all the way to lagos to scout for properties. My mum had travelled urgently to the east where he died (dad had travelled to attend an event and didn't make it back). When one of my aunties got wind of what was happening, she booked the next flight for my mum to return to lagos immediately to defend what is rightfully hers, afterall she still had 4 whole children who were still in school to look after. meanwhile message was already passed to my senior sis and another aunt that lived with us here in lagos to start packing any documents they can find and also go to his office and pack any documents. Hmm, it was traumatic indeed and one of many wake-up calls to the harsh realities of life. It broke my trust in humanity a whole lot. I was only just 18 when it happened and before then, these same uncles were the ones that adored us and treated us like chiefs children and chiefs wife that we were. How they switched immediately their brother died was so shocking. Its the reason i said i cant ever marry a man from my side....no one will ever do such to me.
It is really sad that people that are supposed to protect and provide for you are the same people trying to take what legitimately belongs to you
It is a rude reality that we find ourselves in. Time heals all things sha, but the memory will remain.
The husbands are the problem. Buy your properties in your name and that of your wife. Or write a binding will while you are alive and well. Dem no born the stupid uncle wey go come claim property. Police go arrest am first.
So sorry did your experience, Please which tribe is this? I am sure in any tribe they have good and bad people. It’s just unfortunate that the heart of man cannot be fully known.
Culture… brings a lot of misfortune on women… not sure how they sit and plot these greedy laws.
