Thank you so much to Google Arts&Culture and the British Museum for having me! As an art history lover, this was an incredible opportunity, one I never thought I’d be able to have. I wish everyone could see the whole 2 hours Hartwig and I spent talking, it was incredibly fascinating💙
His response was way longer and he talked in depth about the reparations the museum is doing, but it unfortunately had to be edited down to a short video format 🤷
@@JaviAlonso Of all the things the editor chose to edit out, they edited out that? How very tone deaf of them, especially in the period we are in now. For a number of people across the world, 2020 has brought to light the realities of the enslavement of black people from Africa. So it would have been very interesting to learn about the reparations that the British Museum is doing. Removing what Hartwig (the Director of the British Museum) said was a missed opportunity.

Lots of loot there.
Pretty shallow reply to the museum's problematic past and sources.

A lot stolen objects right there and his justification does not sufficiently address the issue, IMHO.
