The first Sci-Fi one sounds like you could've done a nice cover of the Channel 4 News Theme by Alan Hawkshaw haha. What a fun video - these arranger keyboards always blow me away - years ago I saw some Yamaha demo videos from Michel Voncken and was astounded at how good they sound - look like great fun too!
Being genuine on RUclips is rare for bigger channels. Everyone is scared of making mistakes nowadays to not get bashed publicly and they play it safe so creativity is in the decline. I on the other hand like to follow interesting channels that allow room for experimentations.
Woody's occasional momentary befuddlements, followed by expert musicianship, represent all my keyboard prowess ALL the time followed by my constant longing to play just as good as Woody's best faux pas! .
For synthesizers, i'm kinda Roland guy (strangely enough) but for workstation and arranger I feel like Yamaha has somewhat an edge over the competition 😯 Nice demo!
15:41 - I thought the choir is just doing the main melody on the "pa-pa-pa" syllable (just an octave higher than you played it) but I went and checked and there's actual singing in the theme. So I guess that's what the choir lead is for.
Cool to see how you still are able to improvise on those styles, even if the song does not really belongs to the styles. I guess you used the default O.T.S. sounds Yamaha put together with the styles. Sometimes it also amazes me what sounds they choose. This is why i usually make my own O.T.S. settings. Thanks for sharing, i always enjoy seeing and hearing you play as a enthousiastic keyboard player. Have a wonderful day. Kind regards, Ronald.
Thank you for saving me £4,00 plus. I only got one right and would still rather have put my own imperfect interpretation in. There is something about those busy styles aiming at you that definitely paralyse the senses and leaves one feeling helpless. The last arranger keyboard I had, a Tyros 4, I gratefully parteschanged at a loss for a nice piano because it made me feel like a victim. Somehow I have even gone off playing the organ now.
The problem is many of the song styles is excelent programmed stylewise, but 90% of the OTS settings is a copy paste job. the 10% are almost perfect true to the original or as good as it can be to not cost them money to do it, and the rest is just the same 4 sound combinations copied over and over, and your absolutely right, the intro should have a pretty heavy driven guitar sound for the top gun theme. 80% of it is guitar riffs 😅and there isn't a choir in as i remember 😘
Hi Woody, as you’re such a nice friendly keyboard player can you give me a hand to try and get a style for Going Home as you showed on this Movie sample. Problem I have, is that I still have only own a Genos 1, so that may be a bit of a task, I’m also a 79 year old amateur, so please be gentle with me, Geoff 🎼🎹🎹🎹
sure genos 1 can handle that, and so can you, my advice is not to look for an exact match of the original, but take another style and do your own twist on the song
you're right, is is very sad. 20 years of playing arrangers has taught me nothing... strange then that yamaha would invite me as VIP guest to their genos2 launch event and lend me one! ;)
What an inspiring instrument! Except for the wonderfully prepared intros one might want to get to know it better to squeeze more juice from it in terms of preparing own arrangements and like. Just a question - is there any way to figure out what existing songs were these factory arrangements made for?
yes, you can get much better results by learning the styles, how to use them and storing registration snapshots for the song sections. you can download playlists for the keyboard which are a list of songs and the styles that they use, which is a good clue.
What I love about Woody's videos, is that they never fail to put a smile on my face ☺

Ah, yes legend PSR-S and Tyros presenter
Haha, I think your befuddlement made that more interesting, Woody! You're a brave man, tackling them without any prep. :)

@@dwselAbsolutely. It's what makes Woody's channel so refreshing.
yeah thanks, i call it "extreme arranger playing"
@@WoodyPianoShack If they can have extreme ironing… :)
Every retirement home should have one;).
Sure why not I'd enjoy to have one of those or at least working and tuned piano during my retirement days 🧓🎹
i second that! put them next to the jigsaw puzzle table.
I heard commercially released records ( Russian ones from the 90s ) that used arranger keyboard's styles in
For impro that was fun 😁

ah shucks! i'm just bluffin here!
Loving this, more of this please
Hi Woody. Great improvizing. Thanks for sharing. Happy Easter. Patrick.🏆🏆🏆
Really enjoyable and well very made style category!👌
For synthesizers, i'm kinda Roland guy (strangely enough) but for workstation and arranger I feel like Yamaha has somewhat an edge over the competition 😯
Nice demo!
Well I don't think Roland even bother making a cheese machine like this anymore 😂
arrangers are a 2 horse race, korg vs yamaha!
8:54 - that certainly is based on "My heart will go on". That DX arpeggios are a dead giveaway.
Now I know why these things cost so much ... I could spend hours every day for the rest of my life ... and never get bored!
that is true, and if you ever get bored, then just start creating your own styles!
The SciFi march intro sounds like Star Trek: The Next Generation intro. The rest of the style is also vaguely reminiscent of it.

btw. the aftertouch function would allow you tinker with the sound vibrato for the flute without having to resort to the joystick
2:nd style was Star Treck, not Star Wars, but nice playing anyway.
aha, could indeed be, i was being pulled towards indiana jones or jurassic park as usual.

thanks ronald, yes here using OTS as it interesting to see how it sounds from the factory,
Dont worry I like your inspirations too
16:32 starlight express ?
Thanks Woody, these sounds are ear candy mmm
😅

nice video,
we could spend too much time playing with those device at least it's expensive that gonna make me think twice before buying one lol
Men jag gillar dina streamar.
tackar!
Can you share Piano Voice preset genos 2 , Please ?
3:rd JB :Licence to kill
yeah, i think you guessed the tune!
Do they have "A View to a Kill"?
i don't know, and it's not here at the moment! i bet you could tweak another style to get something close enough tho!
@@WoodyPianoShack 🤔👌
1:42 sounds like an 1980s or 90s song by Genesis minus the bell sounds.
Well sounds like the shadows or Neil Diamond, some of it at least.
I feel the first style could be used for chariots of fire..
funny, i have a COF cover coming soon, but not using that style. as usual something innapropriate probably :)
does Genos have 88 keys?
only 76
My RockJam RJ88DP keyboard has 88 black and white keys.
Secret service - at 4:58, that IS the next Bond theme.
I always wonder who the styles programmers for Korg, Yamaha and Roland are. Why is it such a huge secret ?

what is the song at 02:10 please? I know the Makina version of it but I was not aware it was a cover from existing song...
I think it's Going Home: Theme of the local Hero by Mark Knopfler
@@jamesshack6006 Thank you James! you're correct 👍👍👍
Hallo Woody man sieht wie viel Spaß dir das Keyboard macht😂😂
And Shirlie Baassie waa right.
not a great deal in difference in the movie section between genos and genos 2
probably not, a dozen or so new styles and new reverb is the difference.
The style are good the problem is that you dont know how to play and arranger keyboard and that is the sad part
