Great video and I value the insight. I own Genos 1 and cannot understate the usefulness of this great instrument as a live performance keyboard. It's the keyboard I wish was available years ago when I made a living at gigging with features like on-board backing tracks organised in playlists with sheet music and lyrics, built in microphone input (phantom powered), effects built in, styles for impromptu playing and quality piano voices. Personally, I'm struggling to justify upgrading to this latest version, and I really want to find the motivation for this based on my experience of owning the previous edition. For a 1 owner, the 2 version appears extremely similar with few ground breaking 'reason to upgrade' features. However, if you don't already own an arranger then this is one i'd highly recommend. I'm sure the 2's sound quality is improved (drums being the most obvious) and there are new and improved styles. Owning a 1 already I'm not sure I can justify spending the next couple of years 'dripping up' 4K to keep up-to-date. If anything, I feel maybe the Korg Pa5X is worth a look at in addition to my Genos 1, and for anyone considering an arranger keyboard do look at the Korg (it sounds fantastic). I realise arrangers are traditionally thought to be aimed at the home hobbyist market, but as a former pro-entertainer, do not underestimate the usefulness of this type of machine. They come with seriously useful features enabling (particularly solo) gigging musicians to setup quickly and get performing easily. I still do the odd gig now and then and really value the 'one man band' performances that the Yamaha arranger keyboards facilitate.

Woody, this was a great presentation. I’m thinking you must have a background in education to be so organized with this presentation. I have had my Gino’s one for three years and have been so intimidated by it as I have never had a keyboard or an arranger before. I just uncovered it and decided I am going to learn this thing no matter what and your video has made things very clear to me!!! thank you, thank you thank you
For the first time somebody explain in a different way the functions of the arranger. Thank you very much for taking the time to explain it so well. Now you said it is not easy to play the instrument and to know the different buttons and slider's function and I agree 100 % with you. I'm a classically trained pianist and I wish they could have an 88 version of these arrangers, specially at that price tag. I went to the store and its very challenging if not impossible for me to play chords on the left and melody on the right hand because we use the whole 88 notes of the keyboard to express ourselves and play 😊 (you understand where I am coming from), but did I heard you saying we can still play the whole keyboard and have the whole band backing up? Also as a songwriter these styles and variations provide a creativity infusion which is the part I appreciate on the this such small piece of art called the Genos 2 and the quality of the sounds it is just breathtaking. Thanks once again for your dedicated time and effort to teach me how to play Yamaha Genos 2.
thx for great comment, there is a mode that scans the entire keyboard to figure out what you're playing, and if 88 is deal breaker check out pa5x, well, check that out anyway for comparison!
I own a number of sequencer keyboards and groove boxes. which allow you to customise your backing but recently bought a vintage 1998 Yamaha DJX which is an arranger keyboard but so much fun as you can make the patterns your own with the cutoff, filter and DSP. And add your own samples to the cool arpeggiator. The Genus is an updated version of the DJX.
the DJX was focused on electronic music and DJ sounds iirc, it was wonderful I remember. yamaha should totally make a new version, like an arranger but with tropical house instead of cha-cha style
stacks of info there!! last arranger i played was technics kn1000 and 6000, Casio mz2000, also i did have a look at the roland VA7 years ago. Shows you how long ago its been since i have played around with keyboards in a shop, but then again the company who had the shops went under sadly, some time ago, and there are no keyboard dealers about now in my town sadly.
Hi Woody! I'm new to modern arrangers and have a Genos 1 on order. Would you say that most of this video's instruction is also applicable to the Genos 1? Thanks for the awesome content!!
Great explanation! Are there any videos or tutorials that can help SETUP these to play pop songs in a live setting, like a restaurant, for example. For instance, how would I set up this keyboard to play Ed Sheeran's Shivers?
Can you help advice for buying one , also need more education on how to really understand the Geno's 2 app system. Need also this type of stand hope can accommodate one two other keyboard. Have with me Yamaha PSR 6700 since 1991 still OK.
So since you're playing pianos, synthesizers and arrangers, is there a type of instrument you enjoy more (on average) than anything else? I was mostly playing arrangers (that's how I started in late 80s) but now I find them actually a bit too guided, the auto accompaniment is a bit too much most of the times.
yeah, i know what you mean. but for electronic instruments, arrangers are the most fun, satisfying and rewarding, but nothing beats sitting down at a real acoustic piano imho!
your prize is that you get to subscribe to my channel and smash the like button for free! i kinda of thought it was it's a sin, but you're probably right!
I have stage keyboard but don't wanna buy an arranger. Is there anything I can do to add arranger feature on my stage keyboard? Maybe VST arranger or Arranger module? So far I just knew Ketron EventX arranger module which is a very hefty price tag
Hi Woody thank you for doing this tutorial you explained everything very well. I know this may be a stupid question but if the genos has no internal speakers does this mean that no sound will come out of it unless you buy separate speakers of some sort. Will look forward to you demonstrating chord looper and vocal harmoniser as I cant find any videos of these.
Great video! let me just add that 90% of these features, sounds, styles, etc, can be found in way cheaper instruments. and my favorite is DGX-670. no need to spend $5000 on the flagship. one grand will take you there safely.
yeah that is correct, as in many luxury gadgets, you pay a lot more for little extra, diminishing returns! i recently rewatched my PSRS970 demos and that instrument punches above its price!
Have your heard about the osmose expression E is the best keyboard expression of the sound unbeatable. You got the power of expression under your fingers in individual key. Must seen!
yes, i am well aware of it having seen lots of demos. personally, I think it is a gimmick and am quite happy with the expression that velocity provides, I am still trying to master that :)
I'm definitely not the target audience for this product, but love your videos, and a lot of thought went into the features in these arranger keyboards 👌
Awesome review Woody I tried the Genos 2 at the store but sincerly i cannot do this upgrade cause its so similiar to the Genos 1 that spending 5500 euro on it its like Im throwing them away ,Even the wave data is exactly 3gb the same, I can understand there new better voices and more styles and ambient drums its just not enough in my opinion. From Genos 1 to Genos 2 im not seeing its worth the upgrade
Great video! I noticed that you were holding down the stop button and pressing individual multipads to stop them. For anyone who doesn't know, you can just press the stop button to stop all of the pad sounds at once. I really enjoyed your Genos2 video where you played the Raiders of the Lost Ark theme! That was epic!
Also, if you say, have all 4 multipads playing at once and want to turn off only pads 1&3, you can hold down the stop button and press 1&3. That will stop those two pads while leaving pads 2&4 playing.
Thanks Woody! As usual, you knocked it out of the park in helping one to decide if the $5600+ price tag of the Genos 2 is worth the money. And as an owner of the PSR S975, I can honestly say it is not. Yeah, it has more styles and options, but the effects produced really boil down to the talent and imagination of the musician. That being said, I've heard no demos on the Genos 1 or 2 that top the richness of sounds and techniques I can produce on my S975. Further, the array of options for music genres and international themes are endless, and I've yet to come across a song I couldn't compose a beat for, or that already had a complementary style. Again, a great overview of the keyboard on your part. But at best, it should cost under $3K IMO.
great comment, thanks for sharing. miss my psr970, was one of the highlights of the range, even today! i agree the difference in player skills outweighs the difference in the instrument.
@@WoodyPianoShack You're welcome, Woody. Thanks for the fast response. Your comprehensive vids on the PSR970 were largely what led me to take a chance on the PSR 975! It was so new at the time, that l could find no local dealers to test it out, but made the $2K+ gamble based on my past successes with simpler Yamaha arrangers. It continues to amaze me and deliver awesome sounding results! I have enough options in that unit to produce more quality tunes than a lifetime will allow.
As a GENOS 1 owner, I can't justify going to GENOS 2 now. Perhaps GENOS 3 will offer some really different (i.e. AI based) characteristics which could place it on another level / category. All in all, it is a fun keyboard to own
AI integration would be the next logical (and necessary) step for a successor. The drums, but also the rest of the accompaniment, could be so much more like a live performance. You wouldn't have to press buttons for fills or variations etc.
Hi Woody! My teenage son is just learning to play chords. Does the Genos 2 allow you to do single finger chords like some arrangers? For example, depressing C is one finger, Cm two fingers, Cm7 three fingers, and so on.
@@WoodyPianoShackThank you! I totally agree! He is very impatient, but as I've told him, when playing just piano or organ melodies with no accompaniment, you will not get a full, rich sound with the simpler method.
It’s relatively easy to escape the cheese. Thin down the styles, change the instruments in the parts a little and above all switch to ‘figured on bass’ fingering. That way, you get to choose both the chord and the bass note of each. Don’t forget, you can play individual notes (up to two) in the left hand to add your own lines down below the split without changing the harmony. I generally own use intro 1 or make up my own. Style creation itself isn’t that hard for anyone experienced in using a DAW. Just remember to record everything in C!
Can you make your own styles? . My xs90s has some of the accompaniment features as this keyboard, but they are called arpeggios. Certain sounds are programmed with the appropriate arpeggio, and you can mix and match arpeggios, but there are no global pre-packaged registrations as on the Genos 2. You can have up to four running at the same time. It also is able to read rootless voicings, so it will trigger the correct notes. However, not all of the arpeggios operate with this feature, only certain ones like the walking jazz bass. Seems like Yamaha has had there act together in this regard for a while. The auto accompaniment is not nearly as extensive as this keyboard. Thanks for the demo, and I do like your shirt!
thank you, yes you can make your own style, i have tried, and it's ok for simple stuff, but really, I think it would become quickly tedious on the touch screen for anything complicated. i wish the software that yamaha style developers use was available for the public!
Hi Woody. New here but found yr approach appealing to me. (A bit backround and objectives if y hava time to read. Im intermediate-, i 74y, olg. Have my favorite old grand piano and T5. Target is to learn best practices for T5 before updating to G2) Goor way might be being able to make as close original as possible good popular covers. Watched some of your videos. Perhaps its not possible for you to show because of copy wrights? But use some good copy free full band peases. Few Q.s? ' Y use chord sheets on screen. Clever, how to do them? Possible at T5? Y use registration for the. song . Still difficult for me to use fluently. Y control with pedal? Wonder if it could be possible to have then scrolling even added with lyrics? (helps to memorise the song) And one more Q as hint for yr tutorials. How to use the voice and Eq settings to make voices as good and close to above covers.. So pleased having found yr site. Cheers WillianFinland
hello willian, nice to have you here, don't know answer to all your questions, but will keep in mind for future videos. doing covers not so much a problem these days on youtube, but it takes so much work to recreate a song... good idea to stick with T5 for a while, it's not the instrument, it's the player!
HI Woody im saving up for the Yamaha Genos 2 should i get one? since i all ready got the Genos 1? i heard alot of features been added ima keep my Genos 1 when i get the Genos 2
good question, i can't answer for you if the new features are worth the $$$$, my advice to newcomers to arrangers would be to buy the G1 now that there are some good deals on used ones :)
Dear Woody. Im considering getting a Genos or a Korg PA5X ... Went through the two user manuals but could not get an answer to this: Can we use the Genos 1 / 2 sliders and buttons to control a DAW (Live or Logic)?
@@WoodyPianoShack I have a Ck61 Yamaha … its organ sliders can send CC data but only when you are playing an organ patch on the CK61 … otherwise the sliders are disabled.
How do you avoid songs using the same style sound totally the same (differ cords, yes. But still pretty much identical)? Or do you simply use one style for one song only. The Pet Shop Boys style sounded like a one trick pony. But other styles may be more generic?
good question, many of these styles are one trick ponies indeed. but you can mute parts and even swap parts between styles to build a frankenstein and then there are almost infinite variations. as always, if you put in the effort you can go where you want
@@WoodyPianoShack Thanks Woody! These arranger keyboards has always been quite a mystery to a synth person. Thanks for you honest introduction. I have gained respect for people who master them to their full potential 🙂

@@WoodyPianoShack maybe that is a nerd.. they just forget the time they started as noobs, but what I expect in a tutorial I could find in yours.if everyone can understand even a single function you explain that is worth appreciate.
Hi Woody. I hope you will have a video on how to record with the Mic without going into the red. I have lowered the volumes in all three places but I just can't seem to get it right. I'll leave it there and if you experiment on your own you will know what I am talking about. Master Volume on the keyboard, then in the keyboard mixer you have another option to either raise the volume or lower it. Then again you have the Gain dial on the pannel of the machine. OH, I don't know what combinations to use so that I avoid clipping "Orange-Red" colours If I turn down the volume in the record section on the far left I don't clip but it is so low that I almost can't hear the instrument and the voice. WOW, and there are no instructions on how to set this vocal stuff up to get a good recording. I don't use the Sub-track to record my voice I do it all together. As in a live performance. That is my only setback at the moment I have had the unit for 3 days so far. I love how it sounds. I hope you can help. I searched the manuals and nowhere does it say how to set up properly. It leaves you to adjust to your own liking. The Tyros 3 had better harmony settings and many more that you can use by just pressing the one you like. I wish I could transfer that load of settings to my Genos 2 I haven't found any information leading me to that. Best Regards Patrick. I don't think much thought had gone into the preparation of the Voice Harmonies. There are only 3 that I like but recording them is almost impossible without clipping.
Oh Danne I have already asked he doesn't use the Genos 2 he uses Qbasis and some other system to record his songs but he does use the mic to sing and I saw how he does his settings but he states he does not know how to run it all through the keyboard. I have fired off a message to Yamaha Canada for an answer. I doubt they know either. It is so new but I am sure they will find out.@@WoodyPianoShack
It always amazes me how these sort of keyboards have such great interfaces, big screens etc and then you have flagship synths with very minimal interfaces. I guess these are a high volume (quantity, not loudness) product which they can afford to have all these niceties.
19:36... this chord detection method is not new at all.... it's there in all yamaha keyboards....you just turn on the accompaniment and press any one key or more than two keys, and it will automatically detect the chord....
A nice try here for the beginners to Genos perhaps. I have the Tyros 4 and I must admit that simply watching your tutorial would not make me upgrade at all as it all looks and sounds very familiar. However after watching other videos on the Genos2 I am aware that this is an incredible machine. Thanks for the insight.
This video was below the average level of a potential Genos owner. The functions he showed and blew his mind were already on my Technics keyboard ages ago.
I have no interest in these types of keyboards but this video was informative & engaging. Thanks Woody; sorry you had to do it twice! I would, however, be interested in - if it’s possible - ‘how’ you create a custom style so you can accurately cover a record as accurately as possible.
i have dabbled with this, not trying to recreate a record but just coming up with something unique to jam with. i wonder if it is possible to do a recreation using the onboard style creator? yamaha themselves use proprietary and internal software tools.
You can surely record your own style either totally from scratch in realtime with loop on/off or step mode. You can also chose an existing style and enter style creator, delete tracks you want to re record to match what you want to use it for. You can also copy say the bass track from style x variation1-4 on to another style variation 1-4 if you have a bass track that is cool in one style and combine it with a Drum 1-2 track of another .. like why try to invent the wheel if you can combine the stuff from different styles that is already perfectly recorded. You also have pc/mac software for converting a midi file into a style. It's not perfect, but with with experimenting with the settings for the extraction you can edit each variation / intro /Ending / Fill afterwards to fix where the software fails to get the right chords just like you edit a miditrack in say cubase. The style files is basically just a midi file with markers for intro's /Endings/Fills/variation recorded in say C major and the chord detection in the instrument do the transpose for you as you play the chords. So there is quite many advanced tools. Also those Multi Pads can be much more than what they used to be back in the days where they were just short midi loops or sound effects. You can record a backing track of any audio that will sync with your performance or be activated manually... just have to time the activation correctly. It's quite an advanced machinery if you want to be creative you can go far beyond what was possible 20 or 30 years ago. Many of todays top arranger boards is more or less just as powerfull a workstation as dedicated workstation Synths .. just lesser focus on the onboard sound design as a dedicated synth.
Arranger keyboard are a tool for composers and arrangers and for live musician (if they put in time to set it up for their gig). If you compose daily, you know exactly what to do when fiddling about on an arranger, because it just help you flesh out the stuff that you do daily anyway. I don't think you compose music on daily basis?
no i don't nor do the majority of people watching my videos. i have to disagree that composers use arrangers, i know many, and they are using DAWs and software instruments. hobby composers may play around on arrangers perhaps, but not professionals. most buyers of arrangers are performers or hobbyists, i am led to believe.
It doesn`t matter how expensive these keyboards get, in most cases they sound cheasy despite their truely great sounding singular instrument-patches. The sax-sounds on the Yamahas ar fantastic. The big problem are always the cluttered and "almost like the original song" sounding styles .
So, I got rid of m Korg Pa5X for the Genos2, but in ALL THE VIDS on line, no-one tells you that The Genos2 doesn't have a FULL FLEDGE SYNTHESIZER in it!! Yes, the Genos has synth sounds, and yes, you can do some BASIC edits on it like attack, sustain and filter stuff, BUT THAT'S IT!! So now I'm starting to feel that this a deal breaker, and back to the Pa5X. 🤔🤨
Woody, Genos 2 is an excellent instrument and quite expensive. It's not for everyone. I'm not an instrumentalist and so I just stick with Ableton Live and my favorite plugins. An instrument as expensive and with as much technology as the Genos 2 would require Piano Roll and Arrangement view. My 90s Korg Triton has Arrangement view and Piano Roll.
i don't think that piano roll and arrangement view have ever worked well on a synth. just too painful on a small screen without mouse. better off doing that stuff in ableton and software instruments imho!
Yes, this is a disappointment. The non-standard size of the keys, too, is not mentioned by many reviewers. I part-exchanged my Clavinova 825 for this Genos 2 and, currently feel a bit short changed! But I suppose Yamaha would argue that to have provided 'weighted and full-sized keys', would have added too much weight to their 'portable' flagship.
I never liked the first Genos, but Genos 2 blew me away! Even though I´m still not a fan of touchscreens on a Keyboard, I get along with that on my Kronos and MODX. And I still prefer Yamaha to get into the world of an arranger, because even when KORG has some interesting stuff to offer, it´s far more difficult to get into that system

Yamaha and korg flagship arrangers are now crazy expensive and honestly the incremental upgrades are just not worth it. The genos speakers are the same as those from tyros 1 and pretty poor. Korgs add on for pa5x is pretty bad too. Yes using full range active monitors improves things greatly but just makes them even less desireable from a purely cost perspective.
Only thing Yamaha serious need to fix is the stupidly simple split between left and right side of the keyboard. The last update they did to the firmware of the P9000 25 years ago was they added a free 4 zone setup of left+ Right 1-3 parts just like every other multi part synths have today. Why this isn't in the Genos 1 or 2 is beyond me.
@@WoodyPianoShack No, they have all 4 rows in the configuration screen but upper 1-2-3 follow each other when ever you change the split point. You can set I believe max 2 split points. lower follow the acomp. range then afa i remember you can split 1 of the upper parts of and then2+3. At least if you arent using the auto acomp. you really should be able to have 4 freely definable zones or overlaps, .. It can't be that difficult to do in .. nearly 2024 🤔 There is so many good orchestral sounds. Would be nice if you could set up a patch with Strings or brass sounds that is layered all out for the right range so you don't play trombones in the top or a picolo trumpet in the bottom. If I knew where to send it too I would be glad to bug Yamaha with an email once a month to give us variable bottom and top note for all 4 keyboard parts untill they get tired off me and put it in 😅

Ok I will. Thanks for sharing@@WoodyPianoShack
Hey woody what do you do like any job?
Thank you very much for your efforts in this video..
thank you too!
For instance, how would I set up this keyboard to play Ed Sheeran's Shivers?
nothing that specific that i know of, you may need to just learn the keyboard yourself and figure it out, best way anyway
You are the best Woody! Super funny with lots of fun whilst learning from you ...
Thanks
Oh! rhank you! i don't get many of these, means a lot to me. appreciate your generosity and support :)
Nice video. Should be said that the operation is practically identical to the PSR arranger series. You don't need the pricey Genos.
absolutely true. but it's the genos that i have to hand and this instrument seems to be a popular theme. i have other tutorials on the PSRs btw!
@@WoodyPianoShack Yes, I'm sorry, it wasn't your fault. I changed my text.
Merci beaucoup Woody pour cette présentation. J'ai acheté ce genos2 et il est fantastique. Xavier Vendée France
Can you help advice for buying one , also need more education on how to really understand the Geno's 2 app system. Need also this type of stand hope can accommodate one two other keyboard. Have with me Yamaha PSR 6700 since 1991 still OK.
i have review on some stands on the channel, and don't know anything about app system, sorry
@@WoodyPianoShack I am leaning towards this too, although with a digital piano. And I like synths a lot. Not currently owning an arranger.
Good and right to the point short introduction, well done!
8:49 , I know there are no prizes, but was it PSB , Always on my mind?
your prize is that you get to subscribe to my channel and smash the like button for free! i kinda of thought it was it's a sin, but you're probably right!
@@WoodyPianoShack That's a prize I got years ago when I first started following you :)
I have stage keyboard but don't wanna buy an arranger. Is there anything I can do to add arranger feature on my stage keyboard? Maybe VST arranger or Arranger module? So far I just knew Ketron EventX arranger module which is a very hefty price tag
Thanks for the great video Woody and looking forward to many more!
Quality content for Genos i love it! ❤
Hi Woody thank you for doing this tutorial you explained everything very well. I know this may be a stupid question but if the genos has no internal speakers does this mean that no sound will come out of it unless you buy separate speakers of some sort. Will look forward to you demonstrating chord looper and vocal harmoniser as I cant find any videos of these.
you are correct, no built in speakers or amp. thanks for the request.
Супер Genos2. 👍🏼🇹🇲
I'm definitely not the target audience for this product, but love your videos, and a lot of thought went into the features in these arranger keyboards 👌
thank you very much! yes, it strikes me too how much thought and focus on ease of use on these arrangers, if only this was the case with many synths!
From Genos 1 to Genos 2 im not seeing its worth the upgrade
that's probably a sensible decision, you can still make some great music on the G1 i'm sure...
Great video! I noticed that you were holding down the stop button and pressing individual multipads to stop them. For anyone who doesn't know, you can just press the stop button to stop all of the pad sounds at once. I really enjoyed your Genos2 video where you played the Raiders of the Lost Ark theme! That was epic!
thank you so much for the multipad advice, i find them easy to trigger but rather hard to stop them once going!
Also, if you say, have all 4 multipads playing at once and want to turn off only pads 1&3, you can hold down the stop button and press 1&3. That will stop those two pads while leaving pads 2&4 playing.
THANK YOU ! DID YAMAHA PROGRAM ENOUGH VOICES WITH AFTERTOUCH CONTROL? DID YOU FIND IT USEFUL?
YOU ARE WELCOME! I don't use AT much myself, but it's there and responds very well, especially on acoustic instrument sounds.
Yes it have enough voices and you can assign AT to all voices in the voice editor.
Are there any studio monitors you would recommend for someone who plays only at home in a small room and sings with a microphone
lot of genos players using yamaha hs monitor speakers, singing live into them may be pushing it a bit though. we don;t know your budget though.
Woody, how heavy is this Genos 2 in pounds?
Thanks for the video, Woody. I appreciate the positive attitude that you bring to your videos. 🙂👍
As a GENOS 1 owner, I can't justify going to GENOS 2 now. Perhaps GENOS 3 will offer some really different (i.e. AI based) characteristics which could place it on another level / category. All in all, it is a fun keyboard to own
i understand that, for people new to this type of instrument, there's never been a better time to pick up a G1... still an amazing instrument.
AI integration would be the next logical (and necessary) step for a successor. The drums, but also the rest of the accompaniment, could be so much more like a live performance. You wouldn't have to press buttons for fills or variations etc.
The relative simplicity of the banjo in the background, an interesting juxtaposition :)
hehe, yeah, after hours with these high tech expensive instruments, i can get similar levels of enjoyment from a 120 dollar banjo!
oh, but the family prefer G2 to BJ :)
@@WoodyPianoShack I do the same with my 10-string lyre!
Hi Woody! My teenage son is just learning to play chords. Does the Genos 2 allow you to do single finger chords like some arrangers? For example, depressing C is one finger, Cm two fingers, Cm7 three fingers, and so on.
yes, it has that mode, although to me that seems like a bad habit, better to learn the proper 3 finger chords if possible!
Just remember to record everything in C!
great video topic there! thx
brilliant and clear introduction...
oh thank you so much, very encouraging!
Does it have a built-in sampler?
no, but it can play samples
Can parts be exported to midi for daw editing?
to my surprise, yes
Expecting your next part of this video. Great job 👍
Hi Woody.
New here but found yr approach appealing to me.
(A bit backround and objectives if y hava time to read. Im intermediate-, i 74y, olg. Have my favorite old grand piano and T5. Target is to learn best practices for T5 before updating to G2)
Goor way might be being able to make as close original as possible good popular covers. Watched some of your videos. Perhaps its not possible for you to show because of copy wrights? But use some good copy free full band peases.
Few Q.s? '
Y use chord sheets on screen. Clever, how to do them? Possible at T5?
Y use registration for the. song . Still difficult for me to use fluently. Y control with pedal? Wonder if it could be possible to have then scrolling even added with lyrics? (helps to memorise the song)
And one more Q as hint for yr tutorials.
@@WoodyPianoShack super thanks for answering. Happy Newyear ?

Dear Woody. Im considering getting a Genos or a Korg PA5X ... Went through the two user manuals but could not get an answer to this: Can we use the Genos 1 / 2 sliders and buttons to control a DAW (Live or Logic)?
i don't know either, I have never tried it, they need to send CC data. typically people not using these as controllers I guess.
@@WoodyPianoShack I have a Ck61 Yamaha … its organ sliders can send CC data but only when you are playing an organ patch on the CK61 … otherwise the sliders are disabled.
@@camilleotrakji thanks for clarifying that. i remember similar thing on the YC61, the drawbars would transmit but only if the organ module enabled.

There are only 3 that I like but recording them is almost impossible without clipping.
thanks for the question, search for a guy called genos professor, he has many videos on singing into genos and best settings.
Hey Woody you know I appreciate that so much Thanks and have a great week. your Canadian Friend. Patrick.@@WoodyPianoShack
It is so new but I am sure they will find out.@@WoodyPianoShack

u're the best!
It always amazes me how these sort of keyboards have such great interfaces, big screens etc and then you have flagship synths with very minimal interfaces. I guess these are a high volume (quantity, not loudness) product which they can afford to have all these niceties.
+1 on that, this thing is a pleasure to use, whilst flagship synths, at best not so much, worst utter frustration, in my experience. :)
woow😮😮😮 It looks amazing
Excellent video. Thank you
19:36... this chord detection method is not new at all.... it's there in all yamaha keyboards....you just turn on the accompaniment and press any one key or more than two keys, and it will automatically detect the chord....
oh yeah, that is the general priniciple, but there are several chord detection modes, and various techniques to master.
Module/desktop version would consider, maybe
not sure it would fly, too many buttons and controls. although i did have ra50 arranger box back in the day and it was ok.
nice shirt man!
That's whole recording studio and a band there in Genos 2.😍
yep, fair to say!
Btw, nice watch Woody.

Man if you slicked your hair back... what a beast. Did you try it? :D
haha, i let it grow a bit more first, so bear with me whilst we go through the fluffy phase!
Wow $5699! That's rough.
Very good
It doesn`t matter how expensive these keyboards get, in most cases they sound cheasy despite their truely great sounding singular instrument-patches. The sax-sounds on the Yamahas ar fantastic. The big problem are always the cluttered and "almost like the original song" sounding styles .
yes i struggle to find good use for song specific styles, but have a video all about cheese coming out at the weekend!
should have watched my review video as I clearly remember mentioning exactly this. this board not intended for sound designers.
Weighted keys ????
Should be for that rippoff price
I find Korg's system much easier. Plus it's of a much better build.
I wonder how many measures the automatic looper will do , ? a arranger is the best for a creative artist to make masic on ,,by my findings over the years I have been in bands , church choir director trios , played piano , and I dont really care for DJ , I like to use a arranger as my base board , and add synths , guitars , and by doing so It allows me to really create my own Original music like when you mix paint colors ,,and get all different colors ,,I like to do things unorthodoxy as far as art and music ,, Woody could you play us one on that banjo ,, and the shirt is groovy ,,,I see your letting your hair grow out like a Hippie guy on the beach ,,you need a surf board ,,,I Love Yamaha I want a new Genos 2 ,, I have a Yamaha PSRsx900 and I Love Love it ,,and a Yamaha Tyros 3 and I Love it ,,and a Korg Pa5x and I Love it ,,I have many synths and arrangers I play them for forty years ,,since I was five years old ,, I had and still have a brown Magnus 25 key Organ I played when I was little boy I am 62 now ,,:) I Love my Yamaha arrangers and synths and my Magnus ,, the music is not in any interments its inside us

Many features are the same as Tyros 5/76.
for sure, you can follow the same basic architecture all the way back to T1
All Tyros were fantastic, found there sounds even better than that thing, even my old PSR 9000 is still amazing
Only thing Yamaha serious need to fix is the stupidly simple split between left and right side of the keyboard. The last update they did to the firmware of the P9000 25 years ago was they added a free 4 zone setup of left+ Right 1-3 parts just like every other multi part synths have today. Why this isn't in the Genos 1 or 2 is beyond me.
i think 3 zones is possible, lower, upper 1-2 and 3
@@WoodyPianoShack No, they have all 4 rows in the configuration screen but upper 1-2-3 follow each other when ever you change the split point. If I knew where to send it too I would be glad to bug Yamaha with an email once a month to give us variable bottom and top note for all 4 keyboard parts untill they get tired off me and put it in 😅
If you need a tutorial on how to play the world's most expensive keyboard, you've made an expensive mistake.
i don't think that's entirely fair, this is a complicated machine with many features and a lot of buttons!
Id have to save for a decade to afford one of these, ill probably wind up with arthritis by the time ive got enough 😂
