Those final few minutes gutted me; what a way to end this beloved character--a betrayal of viewers who remained loyal for 10 years! None of our questions were answered, except the vague hint that Red was actually Katerina (if you even caught that Agnes said he was like a mom, and he said he couldn't help it); that's hardly a clear answer to his true identity!! Liz was never even mentioned (let alone seen, even in a flashback) in this episode! We never found out the exact contents of Red's letter to Elizabeth, what mysterious object he gave Dembe when they split that made Dembe cry, who would be his heir, and what would happen to the task force members; honorable Herbie quit rather than betray the man he and his family loved, and Dembe got fired but had no clear plan for his future. Sia was asked by Herbie if she was on the right side, but she never seemed to decide. Ressler and Cooper's fates are left completely unclear; though Red was dead, he was not captured, so how would that exonerate them, especially with Hudson dead at Red's hands??? And what about Red's terminal illness that wasn't mentioned again for years (though we'd been told his death was imminent?) that was never explained and suddenly popped up again when he coughed up blood and seemed to know he was dying? Since he donated blood to Dembe, it couldn't be any kind of cancer, tuberculosis, or even AIDS, since those would be transmissable through blood. Why did Weeja meet his plane to retire to a quiet life with him but then returned to work and seemed vague about returning to Red?? And what happened to Weeja's sister who was Red's main love interest till they never mentioned her again?? Viewers deserved a better ending and proper answers, and Reddington, our dear, charming and childlike criminal, certainly deserved better than a last shot of his mangled, bloodied body!! He should have had the last laugh on everyone, escaping in a clever twist, clearing the entire task force, and finding the peaceful life he so longed for. Shame on NBC for delivering a senseless death and no definitive answers.
You missed so much when it comes to Red's identity. He's not Katarina, he is her brother. He is Dom's son who no longer recognizes him as his son. Red is a Russian from the same family as Alexander Kirk. If you remember, Kirk had a family blood disease that only affected the men in the family. Red is also afflicted with that same disease. Red mentioned to Liz after they dropped Smokey off at the courthouse that he loves the Jeep Wagoneer he stole, just like the one his father (Dom) has. See how the clues mount up? Then in the episode about Leonard Caul Liz was in Red's apartment, looking at all the stuff in it. There is a picture of family, I suppose, but one of a famous Russian general who defeated Hitler as his army came into Berlin. These clues last fractions of a second to a few seconds. But it doesn't matter as he was able to amass an enormous spy and criminal empire, making him the king of the world, in sorts.
The writers missed a trick here. Rather than a ding playing when Red was walking they could have had one last monologue explaining his life and the final Decision he made.
Seems to me that when Megan Boone left the show they didn't know what to do with Reds hidden identity. So they just decided not to ever mention it again, what a horrible decision
@@mansoorzia9155Which is so freaking dumb. The Red is Kat theory was literally a joke we made as fans, poking fun at the often absurd plot twists. Then the writers ran with it. It's like the car going to space in Fast and Furious 9.
Here's the thing...he knew that bulls roamed those lands and he had no car, no nothing. He chose to walk around, breathing in the air, listening to the birds, enjoying nature one last time. He KNEW a bull would find him. He also had that bull's head he brought there and left it at that lady's house. That tells me he PLANNED on dying by a BULL. He didn't want shot, he didn't want arrested, and he knew he was ill and wouldn't be able to keep running anymore. He chose his death then he allowed that way of death to happen on HIS terms, as everything has been for 10 years. I hated they killed him off but that's how Red wanted things to end. I still don't know if he's the REAL Raymond Reddington or Katarina with a sex change but Red NEVER acted feminine to me and he's the best at hiding the truth about himself and his operations from everyone (even Dembe). So with all that being said...I think he was the REAL Raymond Reddington...Liz's father and Agnes's grandfather. We all will have to accept the ending as Red would have wanted that ending for himself, if he was a real person. Not truly knowing who he is and dying on his own terms and no one else's.
That does not make it better. "We didn't know what to do, so we just fucked up the entire character's personality", is not a valied excuse 1. Red would never die by suicide, that is absolutely not the way he would want to go out, lying in a field like trash all mangled by a bull.
I don't like all the unanswered questions left by this ending but I do like your take on Red's choice. When the scene with the bull started I immediately thought of "Legends of the Fall" I think we could have done without the mangled body shot. Maybe they could have let Ressler convey to the team how he died on his own terms then done a montage that gave closure on the rest of the characters.
I agree. I thought he might pass away peacefully of his illness, and I think he thought so too, but there was a bull, so I think he wouldn't be able to outrun it and he was sick of running, so he just stood his ground and relied on fate to dictate how he would die. I miss Red already 😢😢
I respect the amount of trust you give the creators, but seriously they didn't care about this show after season 8 and I guess we should've too. Personally I think that ending was an insult to us who stuck around for fucking 10 years.
Denbes speech made me cry. I knew death was the only way Red could ever be free of his own team, persecuting him, instead of helping him. Esp Ressler. Whole thing made me sick. The whole senator twist was awful. But there were some fine actors, Spader being the finest of all.
He died on his own way! Nobody got to choose his fate except Raymond himself. And for me, the best part is he got his chance to say goodbye to everyone.
Completley agree, everybody is weining about the death and unanswered questions but I belive his death was just as he wanted. The bull skull, the ranch, the day. Just perfect especially since he would have died from the diesese after a really hard time of strugle.
Never thought Red would go out by (assisted?) suicide. He could have just died in the field before Ressler found him, or Ressler could have found him in Red's last moments and we could have gotten one last monologue.
I said the same thing, he could have gave one last monologue and died of his weak condition, not by suicide. It was a really weird ending, it's like they were tired of doing this show and wanted to get over it.
watched it back to back all 10 seasons and cried my eyes out at the end both times. I would like to have seen Red killed off in episode 21 and episode 22 dedicated to Red's funeral, everyone saying their bit, what happens to each cast member etc.. and also revealing who Red was, the reveal coming from the "letter" being read out at the funeral during Dembe's eulogy. It would tied everything up in a neat bow imo.
Looking back the ending of episode 20 WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR BETTER WHEN RED SAID TO COOPER CATCH ME IF YOU CAN AND HE WAS GONE…….. A MORE FITTING ENDING TO ME.
Yeah, like some remote privately owned island that Red owned where he set up former agent Narabi to live out her last days. Have her ironically be by his side sitting on the beach as he was infinitely dying and reminising about his life or have him walk into the ocean like Katarina. Something like that. And the task force get a final video of him clearing up things, passing on his fortune and instructions to Agnes in a cryptic fashion.
@@dranzacspartan8002 when he was talking to pinky observe that he was talking like a girl rather than a boy and even pinky says your are sounding like a mommy
What did he give to Dembe in that box in previous seasons also what about the people reactions once they find out that he has passed??? This show was too great to deserve such a terrible ending. What happen to the task force? What about the rest of Red’s fortune? Why did Weecha have to go back after choosing a quiet place? What about agent Siya which side was she really on? Lastly how did Red find out Dembe’s location so that he could prevent him taking for questioning?
Here is the answer: It was all an illusion, it never happend- if You think about it for more then 5 minutes i actually makes sense. Why to contemplate about something that was not real. But it was a great show I have to admit.
There are a lot of unanswered question really😢 It's sad we didn't get to have full closure on the fate of the task force and seeing everyone's life being better or returning to normal
I've read with interest the comments wanting a superficial this or that ending. Did y'all not ponder on the events of the last season and episode. Red was always at peace with death and a man who thought deeply of life and what and how he hoped to die. He was a powerful man in so many ways and a prison or desert island getaway would have been incongruous with who he was. He spoke many times of matadors and the majestic bulls they danced with. In so many ways he was a consummate matador dancing with death for years. The majestic bull that brought about his demise was the perfect Shakespearean ending. Sorry y'all found such an ending with depth and humanity disappointing. It was perfect. Thank you Raymond for 10 amazing years. We tip our Fedoras to you James Spader.
Stage 4 lung cancer?. He was like Walter White in the final. The issue they have only if at all emphasized his disease in a subtile way… But the blood-transfusion and him spitting blood has sealed his decision. The episode prior in the truck with weecha he was eager to be in the mountains with her, but Dembe‘s arrest and him being actually fatally wounded have changed it at all.. The issue him being sick in the last 30 mins was just way too convenient to justify is suicide…
Thank god everyone is thinking the ending was shit , I genuinely thought i missed some deep meaning! I wish they did justice to the end of Red he was one the best characters on any show and had such a suave personality
@@jlawrencewat that is right they never said it , but they said that the clues and was already shown in the season Liz died (writers) . The reason they never came out with it is that some loyal blacklist fan would stop watching if kat was red. Many was negative towards this. In my opinion
The ending was so disappointing that we do NOT know who Red is, after 10 years. People carry on that Red was her Mother, but Red could be the twin of the original Red, or who is deeply in love with Liz's mother that he saw Liz as a daughter he could have had. But ... I have another theory. RED WAS LIZ'S OLDER BROTHER! Now disprove that! You see, we never know. I'm sicking with Red was Liz's older brother. Regardless, the Writers ruined the story because they had no idea how to wrap it up. There is NO WAY I'm watch any re-runs of Blacklist ... and there is NO WAY I'm recommending anyone to watch it. What for? It's was a waste of our time. Pointless.
@@sabineblankschein3745 You stitched a nice one there ... but it all unravels in your fist step. Red was Liz's older brother. Now you can proceed with you stitches. No need to thank me.
@@sabineblankschein3745 Ok, I'll type this part very slowly (like a nice slow cook), so that you can open up your mind. Red mentions many times 'when he was a boy' to Dembe Zuma. Think, mate. Why would Red talk about his childhood as a boy to Dembe Zuma who knows his identity. Your very simplistic conclusion crumbles. The only thing that makes sense in all facets of the story (e.g. Red's connection to Katrina, Liz and Jennifer). Katrina was a childhood rape victim by the KJB, giving birth to Red. Decades later gave birth to Elizabeth, but the real Red was violent, so Elizabeth killed him. Katrina gave the real Red's identity to her son, the Red we know, so that he can take over the real Red's empire. The Red we know was on a path of revenge for his mother, Katrina and to safe guard is little sister, Elizabeth. While Red wa overlooking the safety of his sister, Elizabeth, he gave birth to his daughter, Jennifer. But his daughter Jennifer was never in danger. Red spent all his energy on overlooking the safety of his little sister, Elizabeth and making sure he prepared her to take over his Blacklist machine to bring down the former KGB and clean up the corruption they were inflicting on the world. Now, do you get it? All the pieces full into place perfectly (and why Red reminds Dembe of his boyhood past. No need to thank me. Just call me the Aussie Super Sleuth ... at your service. All free.
Okay, so I was just thinking about this today and it was obvious Red was dying and he was trying to finish all his business before he died. But, he never managed to return the bull's skull to its rightful home. The message I thought of today is that all of us die with unfinished business.
The whole point of the show was: 1) Who Reddington was 2) What was his relationship with Elizabeth AND WE GOT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS AND YOU JUST MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WASTED SO MUCH TIME FROM MY LIFE...
Weirdly satisfying. I am still dismayed that they didn't give a straight answer to the most burning question and took Red out in a rather very "un-climatic" manner, but it's been 10 years, and at the end of it, sometimes even scenic Spanish landscape and Spanish song can do it for you. James Spader is an absolute legend. The monologues and charades will be dearly missed.
Anyone else think Red was sick (took care of those that worked for him encouraging them to quit a life of crime, ending his vast empire AND coughing up blood) and chose the way he'd die ... violently, but not at the hands of a human?
How can the writers screw up an amazing 10 season run with such BS. James Spader created a character we all love and cheered for. Redington deserved better and so did the fans!
I think it was intentional to live unanswered instances to let the viewers fill the voids with their own imaginations...coz the show itself is more of a lesson learnt than a mere acting. my opinion
Ending left an empty whole in my stomach i was really sad, But it worked out. Red; The most chaotic powerful man in the world that's been in wars and many gun fights dies in nature, with a calm mindset, faces his death in the most beautiful scenery ever, very much like id expect from Reddington to be honest. Prior to the blacklist Agent Donald Ressler spent years chasing reddington but was always one step behind.. The show ended with him finally catching red. He finally got his man after all that time. It came full circle and honestly im so grateful for that. as for people upset about unclear answers.. i read that James spader has said something along the lines of "Rewatch the series knowing what you know now and pay attention to every close detail, the answers are there". (heard this from an article that someone spoke to James regarding the whole Red is liz's mom theory) which turns out to not be a theory but truth. Blacklist is a show with much detail to every little thing, if you look away for a minute youll miss so much. so with that being said i encourage everyone to rewatch it and let me know what you think. Maybe ill join you aswell
It ended with Red surrendering his life in the same way that the legendary bull fighter let his head dip as the bull lunged towards him. Red was dying and ended his life with a legacy that would never be forgotten nor equaled.😮
It ended as it should, shrouded in innuendo and mysteries, Rendington having planned and chosen his death, on his terms, without fear, no ending would've been satisfying, 'cause the show should've lived on, just like S.O.A should've. Loved every sequence of it, ten years have passed by ... ten years!
See you get it. Throughout these 10 years the writers have constantly gone on record saying that the never intended to reveal all the secrets. All these people are so angry they didn't get what they wanted. But im happy because i know the character red whoever they were. Died how they wanted to go. Of course i want answers like everyone else but the answers were never the point of the show. Dembes speech literally told us what we needed to hear. None of this was about the ending but the journey. The laughs the tears the action. That was the show. The ending never really mattered. Because we got to watch a beautiful story with beautiful characters enjoy their lives through all its ups and downs. Thank you for seeing what the writers intended
What a disgusting ending. And i thought after GOT no TV shows would get a final so bad... I didn't expect to be left without any of the answers of the show. I think we need to cancell producers or tv shows who end things so badly... I mean, how can they not get the whole rage of years spent watching the show and end things like that...
@@tate5045 yes, the thing is that the tv show started the whole Elizabeth thing and his mother Russian spy etc... Then who is Reddington and in the end those things that I'd say the most important.. weren't answered u u
The ending i wanted for him was to survive and go in to hiding for good but him dying that way went with the Redington character and the ending in comparison to GOT, LOST is miles better. As much as the answers I wanted for them to be answered, the fact that they left them hanging because even till the end, no one knew exactly who Raymond Redington was so on that basis, they kept true to the character.
Sry man but GOTs ending was far worse! All characters were completely out of character and nothing made sense. I think that this was actually kind of fitting for Red. Yes it would have been awesome to get explanations, having a final dialogue or something but I think it still made sense for the characters within this show. Imo miles better than GOT. Damn I'm still frustrated about seasons 7 and 8..
Very poor ending.. atleast the writters could have use dembe Zuma while on the bed with Harold to explain who Raymond truly is and how he changed his identity using Dr hans coler.. , the sickness he suffered the content of the letter in a single episode..
Never in my wildest of dreams did I ever think this was going to end like that? Gutted is the only word I could find to describe it. Saving his friend's life before doing what he did. Master of his own destiny priceless.
Raymond Reddington death has got to be the most ironic thing in that show. A man whose nickname was red killed by a bull. Considering the myth that bulls hate the color red, but in truth, they’re color blind.
Man, that ending made me mad! You spend so much time to these shows and you get these type of endings? Whoever decided on this ending and blessed off on it, i hope they step on a leggo at least once a day for the rest of their lives.
Man, Alot of people here saying that the Ending is like "Game of Thrones" clearly didnt watch the show clear enough, There is literally nothing Reddington can do, As the other Agents said he doesnt want to surrender so the only way out he can do it die in a Poetic and Story like, If you ask me, If Reddington is alive then obviously the fanbase would be asking for another season BECAUSE HE IS ALIVE and for Gods sake know that even if he fake his death, regardless with Reddington alive, it would be clueless if the show need another season or not, This Ending is meant to be gut wrenching but accept the fact that every story MUST have a Ending
This ending sucked. I’ve been watching this show since season 1. I even spent a month rewatching to get ready for the final season. And this crap is what I get? Who is Raymond really? What was in the letter to Liz? Where is the real Caterina? Things I thought I would learn this week. But nope. Just learned that the most dangerous man on earth decided to die at the hand of a bull in the middle of nowhere. Where is Aram too!
So many questions and I truly was hoping he would have gotten away with his girlfriend where did she go ? They got in the truck and left after crossing the water ? Didn't make sense she normally would be with him
I think the simplest explanation no one is looking at is hilarious if it’s true. 1. Liz had one final question she asked him and wanted him to be straight forward with him. She asked why she couldn’t know his real identity. Red responded, if I told you my identity before you killed me. Knowing who I was you wouldn’t want to kill me. 2. This basically to me means reddington is her grandfather. He is a Reddington. Just not his son Raymond reddington who he took his identity after his son died. Dom is Liz’s grandfather from Katarina’s side. Reddington is Liz’s grandfather from his son Raymond reddington a side. It was never introduced who Raymond’s parents are or were. The focus was always Katarina’s side and her family. What about Raymond’s side. The only person similar in age to dom is current reddington. He professes how much he loves Katarina because that was his daughter in law who was with his son. Raymond reddington. After he witnessed his grand daughter kill his son. He took her to erase her memory of it. A loving grandfather would. The reason he has access to his son’s accounts etc after his death is because he is his father. He is reddington. Just not Raymond. This makes the most sense to me. I believe the note he gave to dembe would have revealed this whole time he was Liz’s grandfather from her father’s side. Dembe this entire time knew his identity. He never wanted to reveal this to her. Why I can’t figure that out but this is my theory I think makes more sense. He also can’t be Katarina for soo many reasons because we literally see Katarina later and she is dead. Red killed his daughter in law. Someone debate this with me because like a lot of us, this show angered me with the ending.
Im disappointed there were no concrete answers after 10 years but I do think Reddington's death was fitting. Its kind of heroic. And a suitable "opponent" for Reddington rather than some drawn out illness.
@@Blackfender36 Daniel Knauf (the long time executive producer) has even come out to confirm that it was the storyline at some point. Obviously they just can't do it now since there is such wild anti-trans mentalities out there, it would get the cast and/or crew put on some militia's hit list.
I just now started, I'm in season 2. Ok you said that he was not a she? Well Raymond was talking about going to a girl scouts when he was younger?!? At that time, there would be no males allowed in a girl scouts. So right under his neck, it looks like a face implant. So like I said I'm in season 2, so I'm watching and paying attention. Oh by the way, men don't normally talk as long as he does about any subject. So anyways, I'm watching and paying attention.
Hated the ending, it was obvious red was on his last legs/death bed. But it would have been brilliant if reslor finally Catches up to red whose slumped over at a grave which turn out to be the final resting place of his daughters Elizabeth and Jennifer on the families ranch. When reslor get close enough to red he notice that red is no longer with us and in his final moments he wanted to he with his daughters at the end
Wow. How am I going to manage without this wonderful series on a regular basis. James Spader has been superb. Long series like this one have multiple writers and multiple directors over the years, and that was very plainly obvious in the last couple of years and episodes. Maintaining a very consistent line is possible in the early years, but much harder later. It is also difficult to replace an important character if the actor or actress for their own reasons wants to leave the show, which presumably is what happened to the Elizabeth Keen character, whose absence was certainly very much missed, a crucial central element for Reddington, only partly replaced by him being a close 'uncle' while most of us believe him to have been Agnes' grandfather. So what about the ending? which some people have loved, others hated, and others have expressed opinions rather than feelings. We had been telegraphed very clearly by all the giveaways in recent episodes that he knew he was on his way out, that he had a serious illness though we weren't indicated what it was until he started coughing up blood towards the end, and then hastened his own end by giving his blood to Dembe. he had given life to Dembe as a kid, now he gave it again in his death, a great gesture. Ressler proved to be a well-meaning sleaze at the end, not content with not appreciating that Reddington saved his life by aiming for his protective vest, not his head or neck, he still comes after Reddington with a gun. He never forgave Reddington for the loss of Elizabeth, which of course was not what Reddington wanted, and saw as his own huge mistake. It was fun seeing Reddington repeatedly evade the fbi agents, and one of the finest moments in the last episode was Herbie's gutsy dedication and support, and his confronting the others with 'who's side are you on?' Harold was Harold, running an 'unofficial' group while trying to be an honest ethical law-abounding director, as for the newcomer Ms Malik, she showed a strong character who at times knows she is over her head with this group and struggles to come up with them. I am sure most people were delighted that the nasty congressman got what he truly deserved. I suspect that the leader of the fbi team, the threatening bully, was put in as a so-over-the-top person with the idea of a possible starting character for a follow-up series. I would hope that whomever owns the franchise or rights would do a very thorough public survey to see whether people want to see a new series without Reddington. I suspect many wouldn't, it could never be the same. The ending? Of course it left some questions unanswered, many shows are better off that way rather than to try to tie EVERYTHING together at the end. He died on his own, not gunned down by an law officer. He died having given a lot of happiness to many people. He died knowing that there were some people who really truly loved him, even though he had killed many really bad people, and that some people had benefitted greatly from contact with him - whether they appreciated it - Herbie - or not Ressler.
Here are my couple of three cents on how I would have written the ending… The episode of Agent Ressler Chasing Reddington is cut down. The bull killing Red stays. After Ressler discovers Reds lifeless and battered body he looks at the bull oin the background… Camera zooms in all the way to the bulls eyes… fades to black… next scene we see is a blurred vision of a graveyard, with people standing around…. The shot clears from a blurred vision of people in black, to all the familiar faces standing around the burial of Reddington. The camera pans across them all. From Dembe , to Resssler , to Harold Cooper, Glenn’s mum, hurbie, baby and family, Aram makes a surprise return for this moment, syla, etc.. all the while, there is no dialogue through this scene, just the orchestra music play Rachmaninoff piano concerto no. 2 in C minor… the music holds the scene, each note flowing over the saddened faces, and as Raymond is being put into the ground, the camera slowly focuses on Agnes, holding tightly to Harold Cooper. Dembe walks up to the tomb of Reddington and places Reds beloved fedora hat on top of his grave along side the flowers. One by one the friends walk away, leaving only Agnes alone at the grave, kneels down and weeps. The piano concerto still playing, the camera. Pans up over Agnes’s head over the tomb and there is reddington as a spirit looking over her. Red goes into his last monologue of the show “beyond the darkness, behind every ballad you dance to, every ice cream you eat, you’ll never be alone my princess.” Then the music fades a familiar voice talks Behind Agnus speaks. The camera facing Agnes now, pans up and Liz is standing behind her daughter. Looking straight at Reddington, she says “ she has your spirit of adventure you know.” The camera looks back at Red. He nods. Flash back now occur across the scene, we enter Refs mind, remembering all the beautiful, dangerous and magical experiences he has had throughout his life… then… His face full of expression of what comes next…. Liz bends down and kisses her daughter on the cheek. Then walks around the grave and holds Reds hand and says… “come dad … mums waiting…” red looks beyond the graveyard to a brilliant light, where Katerina is waiting for them both to join her in paradise… they walk toward the light… just before they disappear, Red looks back at Agnes, … they both catch each others eyes… Red Nods… blows her a kiss … and is gone.. fade to black…. Fin…
I can’t help but feel unsatisfied by the finale. Too many loose threads left behind, a lack of reaction from the team regarding Reds demise, their own fate; it almost seems like a season ending cliffhanger, than a series finale. Red might not even be dead. Seems like they’re aiming for a movie, either on TV or he big screen.
@@kimpapkimpaha7698 Spader himself said that, if the show were to continue, it would be a different dynamic. Leading one to believe that it was possible Red could survive. And that was after the show had wrapped.
Wow..honestly don’t know what to say or feel about this. I feel betrayed by this writing, Red did not deserve to die in such a way and to end like this would be a criminal way to end such a wonderful work of art. Some random bull does not deserve to have the luxury of taking the life of such a soul
Red stared death in the eyes over 10 seasons, and in the final episode, he once again was face with dearh. Most men would have run away from the bull. NOT raymond he knew this could be death but yet he stared it right in the eyes and accepted it. GREAT ENDING!
I get what they were trying to do. Have him go out like the legend manolete but there was barely any set up for it. If reds fascination for manolete was brought up maybe season 1 then i would be ok with this ending. But sadly idl just prefer him to escape while finding a way to have the team not get prosecuted.
@@francescocipriani8888 i kinda preferred the latter seasons. I liked Tom, Amir, the 1st season Malik. I wonder why so many left. Was Spader hard to work with, or a director, or the [lack of] story line? Only Red, Harold and Donald, and well Dembe too. It could have lasted longer and done better. But there was some great acting for sure.
Thank God it’s over. So many unanswered questions…only cleaver if it’s truly not over…and slightly clever if it is. Red answered who he was in his own clever round about way, so, I kinda get it.
super super 10 seasons Loved Ray Raymond Reddington, nice finale it was and a beautiful explanation from Dembe (a true loyal person to Raymond), heart touching.I hope he stayed alive, neverthless it's a nice ending He helped everyone He made everyone he cheered everyone he gave everyone what they wanted and finally he got no one at end alone facing ______ i can't say
I'm just rewatching the series and was thinking... it should have ended with Red as the american president... concierge of crime and ruler of the free world... that's how it should have ended... a befitting end for such an intelligent cultured interesting man, such as Raymond Reddington... and James Spader...
Must’ve been Liz father. No other explination, and please don’t come trolling saying her mother, it makes more sense if he was secretly a horse at that point. Him being the mother was a theory made to ridicule the fact that we never got answers, and it’s pretty much denied in the seasons with the fake kathrina, and the flashbacks. Liz reaction to it all wouldn’t make any sense at all if it was kathrina. Being the father is the only thing that makes sense, explains why she couldn’t kill him, why she wasn’t confused at all as she had sensed it for a long time and it was confirmed, then he backed out saying he wasn’t the real red (which I believe is the actual lie). It’s a shame however we never got a clear answer on this considering the first 7-8 season were ALL about his secrets. His secrets were the plot and the main reason we kept on watching, then with Liz’s death they just a bonded to story arch, kept the characters. What a shame
the end of the series was unacceptable childish and in my opinion insulting to the face of red and to the viewers who watched the series for ten years nothing was answered not even who was the red for what with liz and much more but not to mention a shame disappointment of course his death was very fake in such a way without a plot sketchy work in the end
Sucks when right when the tenth season started spader was on Colbert saying they signed 3 more seasons for a total of 13 seasons then outta no where all of a sudden midway through the season they start anouncing it's the final season so a bunch of stuff was left in the air...... Bull crap
I don't mind the mystery surrounding his identity, heck I'm not even mad about his "supposed" death, they never actually say he's dead, I'm just livid about the way they handled him these past 2 seasons. Red faced death countless times before, he seemed ready for it if and when ever it came, but this "assisted suicide" by a gawd damned cow, just didn't seem like him at all, it made the whole series pointless. The mystery of his ultimate motives regarding anything and everything he's done since episode 1 is what's kept the show literally living off his blood transfusion. This ending sucks, Red has been this larger than life character who did everything with brutal panache and showmanship, whoever decided to end him drunk and mangled by a cow in some field was just clearly trolling those of us who've been fans of Red and the show for the past 10yrs.
Somehow sad to see it end this way ..........but was a nice show throughout. A perfect ending though.....Reddington was never and will never be captured alive by any man on the planet. I would have loved this show to just go on and on. Reddington truly took it to another level with his acting. Everyone on the task force (Harold, Siya, Dembe, Herbie)developed some kind of empathy, sympathy or good feeling for Reddington coz Reddington helped them in someway or the other, except Ressler. When he was in a mess he didnt bother shamelessly reaching out to Reddington for help. He never realized his ethics and honesty then. Otherwise he kept blowing the trumpet of ethics and honesty. He was willing to punch Hudson for the Sponsee who betrayed him but was not willing to spend one good thought for Reddington when he helped him. Even when he sees Reddington's dead body, there is no empathy in his voice when he says 'I got him'. To be honest...he was one of the most thankless, stupid, irritating and idiotic character I have seen in Blacklist. I will keep hating him all the time I watch him in Blacklist.
I agree. I made a similar comment above abt how he was my greatest disapointment. So ungrateful after the years of Red's support and kindness. He was a traitor. The whole team shpuld have helpdd him escape from the senator and that terrible black man, whom Harold pushed. Harold and the team were great when working with Red, but only Herbie did the right thing by walking away from the dark side. The whole ending made me sick.
Ending was very underwhelming. The writers and those who like the ending, all say it‘s about Raymond finding a “poetic” ending, but forget the series was not about Raymond Reddington but his relationship to Liz. He build that empire not only to escape the Cabal, but also to protect Liz. He did everything for her and then we get this ending after 10 years. Disappointing.
And yet, we still don't know the deep hidden secrets of who, what, where, when, how, or why Red never explained or gave a truthful reason for his fixation on Liz that destroyed and ended her life. The final writers cop out. The final betrayal to the audience. At least it ended with no chance of return, a solid gift to the fans.
A lot of the people in these comments seem extremely dissatisfied at the ending. I dont think they understand the show. They never planned on giving us straight answers. The whole show is nonstop guesswork for the viewer. They gave us hints to his identity. They didn't set out to end the show with straight answers. They wanted the viewers guessing wondering. But they wanted to show no one decides reds fate but himself. It was a beautifully written ending. Perfect to the character. Anyone who doesn't understand that never understood the show. Red planned on dying with liz but that was taken from him so only he could decide his fate no one else. He thought of bulls as majestic strong creatures that showed beauty in their strength. The ending would've been so less impactful if they just shoved all the answers down our throats. I really wish people could see the beauty in this ending. And not be selfish trying to get answers the writers never intended to admit
I'm disappointed by the ending but it makes sense in a way- I haven't watched all of the blacklist episodes so I don't understand but I guess the bull skull makes sense for him get run over by a bull. I just wish the ending was different they could've had Red look in the camera with hit hat & wink to the audience watching & walk into the field.
I was hoping Red would get to go away somewhere beautiful and live out his life. I don’t like that he had to die. He was a very lovable bad guy. I’m going to miss the show but will forever be disappointed with the ending.
Im sorry but what was this. This was awfull. Reddington should have a ending that would be in character a last laugh. He should have had a final battle and won. We needed a reveal of who he actually was. (Stay away with the red is katarina theory or the red is kirks brother theory) . We needed to know what was in kirks letter. Information about who would take over his empire. A reaction from agnes. Dear god this may be a worse ending than got
I stopped watching Blacklist when they claimed the bones in the suitcase were Red Reddington. It was too weird then. Sad because I had really enjoyed that program. Probably the final good program on mainstream television.
What if he's somewhat criticaly injured and not dead? Could be yet another Reddington stunt. Jus saying.. He might pop back and give us yet another shocker.
No, he was not Katarina. He was her grandfather.
Red was Liz's Father.
Couldn't agree more !!!!
@@reginadasilva57 Real red was her father, not fake red.
The writers missed a trick here. Rather than a ding playing when Red was walking they could have had one last monologue explaining his life and the final Decision he made.
Dembe kinda gave the final monologue.
Seems to me that when Megan Boone left the show they didn't know what to do with Reds hidden identity. So they just decided not to ever mention it again, what a horrible decision
Well, it's been implied so all of us know that Reddington is the mom of Liz.
For real
The fans wanted Boone gone remember, they have a role in this shitty production .
My guess is that Red is Katrina. When Agnes says you're being such a mom and Red says he can't help it...
I like this
That does not make it better.
"We didn't know what to do, so we just fucked up the entire character's personality", is not a valied excuse
1. Red would never die by suicide, that is absolutely not the way he would want to go out, lying in a field like trash all mangled by a bull.
I don't like all the unanswered questions left by this ending but I do like your take on Red's choice. When the scene with the bull started I immediately thought of "Legends of the Fall"
I think we could have done without the mangled body shot.
The last five minutes I was crying so hard unti. I HATED the ending. I expected something totaly different.
I love James Spader. I wonder what he thinks of Red's death?
The best moment of the dinale was Dembe's speech.
Denbes speech made me cry. I knew death was the only way Red could ever be free of his own team, persecuting him, instead of helping him. Esp Ressler. Whole thing made me sick. The whole senator twist was awful. But there were some fine actors, Spader being the finest of all.
James Spader is the executive director of the show and I’m sure the ending was his idea. I did not like it at all.
Totally agree . Especially after the monologue on suicide in cape may
Was it suicide though. Its not like he went there to let the bull kill him and definitely wasn't gonna outrun it
@@DukeJimbob It was definitely suicide tho. Red never goes anywhere without his 9mm. He left his gun in the house on purpose.
How he choose to die and me feeling weirdly okay with it is the biggest mystery that I've ever seen.
Dembe explained it: is not about the ending, IT'S ABOUT THE JOURNEY. Knowing that go back and watch the journey
Worst ending of any show in modern memory.

Terrible
About as bad as the GOT ending.

No.2 GOT
No.3 Sopranos
All bad endings..wtf...best shows have the worst endings???
You have James Spader but give us literal bullshit. It was such a let down after a decade of great dialogue, twists, and suprises.
watched it back to back all 10 seasons and cried my eyes out at the end both times.
So ... we never find out who Redintong is or what was in the letter he wrote to Elizabeth. Overall, a very disappointing and careless ending.

What about the rest of Red’s fortune?
Why did Weecha have to go back after choosing a quiet place?
What about agent Siya which side was she really on?
Lastly how did Red find out Dembe’s location so that he could prevent him taking for questioning?

There are a lot of unanswered question really😢

Same question i have all the time. Until now i did not even recover from this ending.... im still shock
Why didn't red stay alive for agnes?
Stage 4 lung cancer?. He was like Walter White in the final. The issue they have only if at all emphasized his disease in a subtile way… But the blood-transfusion and him spitting blood has sealed his decision. The episode prior in the truck with weecha he was eager to be in the mountains with her, but Dembe‘s arrest and him being actually fatally wounded have changed it at all..
The issue him being sick in the last 30 mins was just way too convenient to justify is suicide…
But gored/mauled by a bull? That was stupid.
On the run? In prison? No, only if he had been freed for all the good he did. (And promised to stop being a criminal!)

The whole point of the show was: 1) Who Reddington was
2) What was his relationship with Elizabeth

Weirdly satisfying. I am still dismayed that they didn't give a straight answer to the most burning question and took Red out in a rather very "un-climatic" manner, but it's been 10 years, and at the end of it, sometimes even scenic Spanish landscape and Spanish song can do it for you.
It ended with Red surrendering his life in the same way that the legendary bull fighter let his head dip as the bull lunged towards him.
Red was dying and ended his life with a legacy that would never be forgotten nor equaled.😮
Im so upset i cant even describe how undignifying this is to the man who made this show what it is.
❤ gotta love a guy who knows how to end it on his own terms.
Ressler should have found Reddington severely wound by the bull and had a final dialogue before he died.

After a painful season 9 I’m here to see how it ends lol. The audience and actors deserved so much better
This ending sucked. I’ve been watching this show since season 1. I even spent a month rewatching to get ready for the final season. And this crap is what I get? Who is Raymond really? He will not die ,its him having a bad dream, season 11 soon.
Everyone has their own theory but after 10 seasons we just wanted Blacklist to answer the questions .
SEASON 11 INCOMING...
I like his death. No man can kill him but he still dies from violence.
Almost cried on the last moment. Never ever imagined Red would suicide the way they showed it.. So Sad it ended the way it ended......

It was fun seeing Reddington repeatedly evade the fbi agents, and one of the finest moments in the last episode was Herbie's gutsy dedication and support, and his confronting the others with 'who's side are you on?'
Harold was Harold, running an 'unofficial' group while trying to be an honest ethical law-abounding director, as for the newcomer Ms Malik, she showed a strong character who at times knows she is over her head with this group and struggles to come up with them.
Here are my couple of three cents on how I would have written the ending…
The episode of Agent Ressler Chasing Reddington is cut down. Red goes into his last monologue of the show “beyond the darkness, behind every ballad you dance to, every ice cream you eat, you’ll never be alone my princess.”
Then the music fades a familiar voice talks Behind Agnus speaks. Then walks around the grave and holds Reds hand and says… “come dad … mums waiting…”
red looks beyond the graveyard to a brilliant light, where Katerina is waiting for them both to join her in paradise… they walk toward the light… just before they disappear,
Red looks back at Agnes, … they both catch each others eyes… Red Nods… blows her a kiss … and is gone.. fade to black….
What? Red is clearly clearly dead.
@@kimpapkimpaha7698 Spader himself said that, if the show were to continue, it would be a different dynamic. Leading one to believe that it was possible Red could survive. And that was after the show had wrapped.
@@samuraigundam0079 So you didn't see those giant sized gore holes in his head then or what?
@@gregd6706 Saw that he was punctured on both sides of his body. Didn’t see anything on his head.
@@samuraigundam0079 Dude then look closer it is clear as day. Red is DEAD.
Wow..honestly don’t know what to say or feel about this. I feel betrayed by this writing, Red did not deserve to die in such a way and to end like this would be a criminal way to end such a wonderful work of art. Some random bull does not deserve to have the luxury of taking the life of such a soul
So disappointed with this ending! So many questions to answer!
Red stared death in the eyes over 10 seasons, and in the final episode, he once again was face with dearh. Most men would have run away from the bull. NOT raymond he knew this could be death but yet he stared it right in the eyes and accepted it. GREAT ENDING!
I loved it. The ending made me cry. Love Red. Best ever.
This was a typical James Spader Gangster move along with Blindspot were my favorite NBC shows that wasn't a Dick Wolfe project
I get what they were trying to do. Have him go out like the legend manolete but there was barely any set up for it. If reds fascination for manolete was brought up maybe season 1 then i would be ok with this ending. But sadly idl just prefer him to escape while finding a way to have the team not get prosecuted.
WORST ending ever
When the creator and writter Jon Bokenkamp left the series after finishing S8, the blacklist "died" with his departure.
I liked the latter seasons, without Liz, actually. She was annoying.
In fact the main story ended in season 8 that explain everything
@@francescocipriani8888 i kinda preferred the latter seasons. I liked Tom, Amir, the 1st season Malik. I wonder why so many left. Was Spader hard to work with, or a director, or the [lack of] story line? Only Red, Harold and Donald, and well Dembe too. It could have lasted longer and done better. But there was some great acting for sure.
Thank God it’s over. So many unanswered questions…only cleaver if it’s truly not over…and slightly clever if it is. Red answered who he was in his own clever round about way, so, I kinda get it.
super super 10 seasons Loved Ray Raymond Reddington, nice finale it was and a beautiful explanation from Dembe (a true loyal person to Raymond), heart touching.I hope he stayed alive, neverthless it's a nice ending
He helped everyone
He made everyone
he cheered everyone
he gave everyone what they wanted and finally he got no one at end alone facing ______ i can't say
Death by bull? Really?????? Really????
That ending could NEVER be explained. A TOTAL LETDOWN............I HATED IT !!!!!
Please add another season which would add a twist from this final episode which is so tragic and melancholic.
the end of the series was unacceptable childish and in my opinion insulting to the face of red and to the viewers who watched the series for ten years nothing was answered not even who was the red for what with liz and much more but not to mention a shame disappointment of course his death was very fake in such a way without a plot sketchy work in the end
Writers want more money 😂the ending was garbage
Cow??? Drunk??? I think you're the one who's drunk.
Red isn't dead.....Left it open-ended. 2 part mini series in the future. It's Red. We know better.....
I think everyone just wanted it to end.
No it’s dog shit
I'm disappointed by the ending but it makes sense in a way- I haven't watched all of the blacklist episodes so I don't understand but I guess the bull skull makes sense for him get run over by a bull. I just wish the ending was different they could've had Red look in the camera with hit hat & wink to the audience watching & walk into the field.
I was hoping Red would get to go away somewhere beautiful and live out his life. I don’t like that he had to die. He was a very lovable bad guy. I’m going to miss the show but will forever be disappointed with the ending.
This made the How I met your mother finally look good.

I think his death is greater than any question that could have been answered but nonetheless we wanted answers to many questions
Exactly. I feel like red had to die, yes but a lot of questions weren’t answered fr
What if he's somewhat criticaly injured and not dead? Could be yet another Reddington stunt. Jus saying.. He might pop back and give us yet another shocker.
we still dont know who the hell is raymond redington
For everyone wondering if red was katarina, just think about what agnes said in the last phonecall, "sound like a mother" 🤷♂️
I hated and loved the ending all together. Brilliant and tragic. But very in character for Red.
