Can't wait to see you saw those walnut, those looked awesome and you used to saw that stuff all the time, I miss those videos because nobody shows walnut like you do. Go Nathan!
Pretty productive day with a nice mix of tasks. Mama cat sure seemed interested in one of those walnut logs. Probably was marked by a resident tom cat where the log was before.😁
you should set up some metal shelving/racks to keep the logs/lumber off the ground so it wont rot just sitting there and set it up close to the lumber mill so you wont have far to go for it
Some really nice Cedar lumber off the mill & some pretty nice looking Walnut dropped off Nathan. I think you will have some 'fun' with them on the mill. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
@@1striperon I don’t watch his videos on a regular basis. Obviously, a sharp chainsaw is not high on his list of priorities. And, after the amount of comments generated, he’ll probably never get a sharp blade for the chainsaw.
I've just discovered you're in the same time zone as my brother. That means I can use the world clock settings I already have, so I can "tune in" to see you live. Sounds really good!
Pool guys use a water level with is a piece of clear vinyl tubing full of water with one end submerged in a bucket and the other end in a person's hand whatever the water level in the bucket is you will have that same level in the end in your hand usually the length of the vinil tubing is 50 to 100 ft
Here in Arizona, for an outbuilding, you are not required to build with stamped lumber. You can saw the lumber used to build the outbuilding. I have drawings for a barn, I just don't have a sawmill yet.
I saw a Stained Cider dragon table that was the most beautiful table i have ever looked at...lt looked way better than Walnut.....Thanks Nathan and God Bless you and yours....... Old F-4 SHOE🇺🇸
Well Nathan, I'll say this about that cedar, your raised beds are going to be the envy of the entire community. Wondering if you have a grading attachment (dozer blade) for Mr. Kato? Can't wait to see the water hit that walnut crotch, going to be epic!
My band wheel belts are just the oppisite. Tighter then a bullfrog butt stretched across a rain barrel. I get 500 to 700 hours on a set depending on how many bands I break and damage them. I've always been told they need to be tight. Been around band mills for 35 years. Interesting tid bit. I never owned a woodmizer so I am guessing that is specific to them.
I love the corsage you're wearing at the start of the video. It matches your outfit. I've watched a few different sawmill channels lately, amazing how many use Joe Maine's blades!
Nathan is the cedar lumber yours or is it for a customer because if it’s yours it’s amazing looking 👀 and you probably will get a nice 👍 payday from it
You were talking about a forestry cutter in your live on Sunday. The guys at "Tennessee Skidsteer Supply" have one that will run on a standard flow Skidsteer, 75 hp and 20+ gpm, and will handle 8" trees. My cousin just picked one up and is enjoying it
If you’re thinking you might need a 50’ barn, build it, because if you build a 40’, and realize it’s not quite big enough, you’ll kick yourself for not going bigger. Plus it will cost more to add on than to build bigger to begin with.
In FL agriculturally zoned land allows any agri. structure to be built for non-occupied agri. use similar to Tenn., however the agri. zoning trumps all county, city, local, and HOA restrictions. I always pull a building permit with a sketch/drawing of new structure. It costs only $50. no inspections and informs county of authorized under state law of the additional building. The reason I mention this is that I think Tenn. state law regarding agricultural use land is similar to FL and probably also is primary and bars local county and cities from restricting your adding any agricultural structure. Ray
I would reckon that belts are like tires and time can take it toll without use. But what the hell do I know, I don’t have a smart phone, just a landline. I love the look of Cedar and if I could, I would wear a suit made of it.
Why hasn't Wood-Mizer integrated a metal detector just forward of the blade that would simply stop forward progress and alert the operator of the metal? Your in tight with them so I know you could get the message to them. At near a hundred thousand dollar investment such and available add on would pale in comparison to down time and blade replacement. Always love your content, Sir.
Mike Morgan uses a laser transit when prepping the site to build on. You should ask him for this expert advice because you said you have never used one. He seems to be a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to construction.
1. I wonder why you don't keep a lower priced metal detector on hand to run over the suspect fence row low logs. Seem like it would save on blades. 2. Why do you keep the tires on the Woodmizer? They make great tires for small trailers. Seems to me a better us than just letting them dryrot on a mill you probably aren't going to move anytime soon.
Maybe if the land slopes off too much you can do a step down excavation and make your last bay a high bay for taller equipment or so you can put a beam hoist in 🤷 Good video 👍
I love cedar ticket beautiful and I taken smells great I wish I could be there with you so I'm up them lights I also love Walnut when I was in high school some 50 years ago I almost made a box out of walnut but I could afford it
I know you really don't want to but you really need to at least stack the lumber you have cut and stacked on your out feed area to get it out of the way. Maybe go ahead a stack it on some pallets in preparation to move to drying area or kiln.
Wow all them logs sure ruff looking like they been sitting in some famrmers field for 5 years rotting an full of bugs. Any saw mill here would rejet them as culs. It dont take long for the wood bettels get in to logs left sitting. You can spray them all you want but it never kills them as there already under the bark an into the wood. Suff like that not even good for fire wood once the bark fallin off unless they were pealed. Bon fire wood
Are those silver tip blades carbide or just some other coating/type of blade tip? I am guessing they are not carbide, or they may not notice the nails as much (based on Matt Cremona's comments on metal and carbide sawmill blades, not from personal experience).
I never see you sharpen the circular blade that runs along and cuts a path to clean out dirt so the bandsaw blade lasts longer. does it ever need to be sharpened.
What does the end user make with 2x6 cedar? Now then, friend, you need to get the pine logs sawn. You said they were on the ground too long. Well if you weren’t using the time it takes to include us by making videos, that pine would be sawn. You’re making me feel guilty. 😀
@ 19:04 min :I get it, it's a small log, but has a crotch... My reflex : Its a matter of time and labor vs cost effectiveness vs worth and value calcul that you get to do : may or may not be worth it, you absolutely can get some small figured boards that is suitable for countless smaller wood working projects.
Can't you get a metal detector and check your logs for metal? Wouldn't have helped with that ceramic insulator you found a while ago... but that's got to be a LOT less common that nails and the like.
I remember in the early '80s when my friend's dad had to cut down a black walnut with a huge crotch and he said it looks like a pair of pants and when you looked at it it did

Oh yes!
Took the words right out of my mouth, and what a gorgeous color.
Dang, I’ll bet that saw mill building smells mighty good with that fresh cut cedar!
That's some good looking cedar you milled Nathan. Great looking bunch of logs you got hauled to you. Stay safe and keep up the good videos. Fred.

hi there lot of work there and good looking cedar best to all john
I rounded up some great walnut crotch pieces to cut down to prepare duck and goose call blanks. One might as well have some figure in his wood!
wow, look at all those pretty white blooming trees in the background when you had that 20 ft. delivered.

That walnut will be amazing
That cedar has some beautiful colours in it.
I think so too!
I love your channel as much for the music as the wood you find.

Have you ever thought about getting a metal detector to scan your logs before you cut?
We will buy one that says "Might as well the shipping's the same"
What your Mema describes as wind that will cut you in two, I know as a lazy wind: too lazy to go around you so it goes straight through you.
Wow thats crazy looking cedar.

Nathan, you were kinda Crotchety on this vidja 😁. Appreciate what ya'll do. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
Looks a bit frosty at the start of the video, great video and information, RB, Nova Scotia.
Thanks for watching!
You need to invest in a metal detector, a couple sawmills here in Dickson County TN use them.
Was just about to suggest that 😊

One of the best things you could do for yourself is keep your logs up off the ground. 24/7/365.

Where I live in WI, the county government will let you do anything... (anything!) as long as you give them enough money. It really is all about money.

A fairly competent metal detector can be had for under a hundred dollars.
At this point, people are probably asking about the blades because you announce it every episode LOL.
Nice pretty cedar . It will work for building lumber . That crotch walnut will look good in 9/4 slabs .

Seem like a cheap metal detector would save blades and a lot of bread just thinking

Are damaged blades refurbished or scrap metal?

Yes
I don't know if there are Sign Men out there - might see if they need any small croch wood to be made into people and company signs.
You need to invest in a metal detector . That would save more cutting blades

Man how do you buy so much new equipment and not own a basic metal detector that can save you time, effort, frustration and money on hitting steel?!
Question, do those big circular blades damage the same when cutting through metal as yours.
Not sure
Never noticed
