+Natboy129 That would mean more if I had ever said that I thought Rose looked sinister. I don't. I think she looks proud and satisfied. Whether it is with herself, or with Steven, or both, that is up for debate.

Natboy129 Maybe, but I think that Rebecca Sugar made the character look exactly the way she wanted her to look. This isn't the first time that Rose has been cast in an uncertain light.
+AJ Universe Yeah, if im being honest thats why i dont like her much as a character... Shes interesting, sure, but i never know how to feel about her... Id really like to get a Steven bomb focused solely on her, how she met the gems maybe and more on her and Greg, call it week of Rose. Id also love to see a Steven Bomb where Ruby and Sapphire unfuse and we actually get to see them rather than Garnet. Its temporary, its compact and doesnt take up much time so we arnt stuck without Garnet for too long. It has to happen at some point!
Also, unrelated topic, but if say, Ruby and Sapphire were to create reproductive Organs like rose did (Male and female this time though) would it create a Garnet gem? If it works of course...

Is anyone else seeing a rather weird parallel between Pearl and Rose and Lapis and Steven? I mean, Pearl came to Earth to escape an oppressive situation (namely, a society that saw her as nothing more than a domestic servant and a piece of property). When Rose treated her with kindness and helped her escape that oppressive situation, she became obsessed with Rose to the point where she would do ANYTHING to protect her, even if it would cost her her life.
Lapis, on the other hand, fled Earth to escape an oppressive situation (imprisonment / the mirror). When Steven treated her with kindness and helped her escape that oppressive situation, she became obsessed with Steven to the point where she would do ANYTHING to protect him, even if it would cost her her life.
Also, there's "Just let me do this for you" / "Why won't you let me do this for you Rose?"
I feel like there is definitely supposed to be some sort of parallel there, but I'm not quite sure where Rebecca Sugar is going with this.

Lapis also looks a little bit like Pearl, not a lot. Just a little. This is interesting and someone should make a theory about this and make it more well known, and I agree with it. But I feel like it's not meant to say that Lapis sees Steven in a romantic way (like Pearl saw Rose) but she cares very deeply about Steven, maybe as much as pearl cares about Rose. I do believe Lapis has grown to love Steven, not in the same way Pearl felt to Rose- and this is making me wonder if Lapis will die, to save Steven.

I was thinking more along the lines of Lapis forgiving Pearl and Pearl and Lapis forming a friendship. They both care about Steven, they're both quite protective of him, and it's likely because Steven (and in Pearl's case, Rose) was the first person to ever truly show them kindness.
+Nameless ARTIST The Romance Scrooge did a theory on a parallel between Lapis and Pearl, though it pretty much just says this, but with more focus on their personalities and psychological states. It's pretty interesting.

It might be plausible that when Lapis does de-fuse, if she's not been brainwashed to the point of wanting to murder the heck out of the gems from Jasper's anger, she could end up joining and end up being the final straw that makes Pearl finally completely break her programming and realize the need for self actualization and the problems that come from her self sacrificing mindset and existing purely for the sake of one person, something that has been hinted at for a while as being part of Pearl's future development since it is shown to be a problem, just one that she hasn't completely faced or overcame yet.
Lapis might even go as far as to become a sort-of dark mirror of what the gems stand for by taking their overly violent natures to a level by endangering the lives of innocents in the future, due to her time fused with Jasper, and end up being someone that ends up having to be bubbled or dying as something that shakes up the group dynamic and makes ALL the gems re-think what exactly they personally stand for and believe, which could potentially be the point that causes Amethyst to lose it and betray the group for Homeworld as people have speculated in the past.
This is all 100% pure speculation and shouldn't be taken too seriously, but I feel like it is at least a possibility since it's pretty much confirmed that Lapis will somehow de-fuse and show up at the barn in a future episode.

I didn't say it looked creepy. And if you are going to be part of the SU fanbase, you should learn quick that Rebecca lies.
I never said you said that, but that's a direct wording from her. And I've been in it since it first started in '13 so don't say she's a constant liar about canonicity because she never screws with her fans like that.
+Darre Mudkiepz I didn't say she was a constant liar, but she has lied about the nature of details of the show before. It is necessary to prevent spoiling the story. Saying that she didn't mean for the image to be creepy does not mean that it was not meant to be telling in any way, it just means that she doesn't want people to know what that way is yet.

Rose's picture makes her look... menacing. It makes me feel like she's been manipulating things in some way...
Rebecca Sugar didn-t mean to have her come across as menacing. She just thought it looked cool and when people pointed that out to her she said it was too late to change it XP.
I completely agree with Rose possibly having a much more personal/selfish reason for giving birth to Steven. And I think part of that was simply her wanting to experience human life as personally as she could. I think people forget that even though Steven is half of each his parents that her essence is still within him. So, to some extent, she gets to experience human life through him. She even said so herself in the video she made when she said when he's loving himself and happy that's her loving being part of him.
And congrats to making 6000. You definitely deserve them (and many more!)

Bro it's like your reading my mind with these theories, I thought the same thing about Pearl's verse the second I heard it, I'm still on the fence if Amethyst will turn rouge, and I'm sad Steven has to live up to the legacy someone who was placed on such a high pedestal. Rose in particular has me deeply concerned on what were her reasons for betraying home world. It's not like Earth was the first planet to be subjected to the Kindergarten, so what makes our planet so special compared to previous ones? I hope you'll answer this question in your conspiracy theory. Congrats on the subs and great video bro.
I sort of viewed it like a this shows pledge. It to me seemed to embody the Ideals of America. Garnet is not from earth and she believes in doing something that is taboo on homeworld. that sounds like escaping religious persecution. Pearl fights for the Ideals brought to her by her mentor. Holding her flag. Does anyone recall a time where a british colony rebelled and became their own nation? btw earth was mean ro be a colony. Not just a place to deplete its nutrients. Then last steven and amethyst fight for their home and to live to a legacy. That seems like Patriotism. These are American Ideals. I may have over analyzed this however food for thought.

I couldn't agree more. I was doing some thinking the other day and when I starting breaking down Pearl and Amethyst's verses, it was a bit unsettling. Nice job covering this newer idea.
+Ella M Thanks. I wanted to cover this as soon as I saw the extended intro video for the first time, but I wanted to give the fanbase time to let the video sink in. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this stuff, and I'm glad I covered it well.
I think Rose looking all ominous might just be a consequence of them trying to make her look expressive and proud while still hiding her eyes.
yeah, they said they fucked up her expression, but it was too late to change it.
I actually found Steven's verse the most troubling, though not in a Grand, This Has Huge Implications way... but in a more This Is Worrying On An Emotional Level way.
Steven's reason for fighting is to live up to the expectations of others, he feels he NEEDS TO be Rose, or like Rose, in order to protect his loved ones and, more pointedly, make them happy. This is addressed in the show a lot, how he feels that he can't live up to his mom, how he's worried he isn't Good enough for her image and therefore for his loved ones, and this weighs heavily on him, even though most of the time he tries not to show it.
And so, his verse in particular is troubling to me. The way he says it, the way he phrases it... "I will fight to be everything that everyone wants me to be." The pressure to match up to his mother is a huge weight on his mind, and in his motivations. It is plainly stated here to be hos biggest driving force for fighting. And in a way I guess that's like (cont)
(cont) Pearl's motivation, in that he's not fighting for himself, but for others, and he's basing his own worth on what others need or think of him. And I think we all know how damaging that can be, on a mental and emotional level.
And beyond that, it can also have darker implications, in that Rose was not the perfect person (rock?) everyone makes her out to be. A whole society loathes her, for reasons we may not know Everything about, and she's clearly kept secrets, done some less than savory things... as Steven learns more and more about the person he's been set up to live up to, from the moment he was born.... as the image he's been fighting to match up to crumbles.... what will happen to his motivation? How will it hurt him, with this mentality that he's meant to be like her?? That his existance and his powers were in part the result of someone who wasn't what he'd been taught to believe?? Guh....
tl;dr i'm so worried for steven honestly
Ugh, so true TT^TT I believe Steven is meant to free Rose but was also an honest result of her love for Greg but she really needed to think more about how this hurts Steven. Steven needs direct reassurance from her that he's fine being himself without Rose. I wonder if lion will continue the role of left hand for the rose quartz gem.

There is one thing about the extended intro that is interesting, you know when it says "it won't be easy but we're not going to do it alone" it shows a pic of lapis,peridot,jasper and yellow diamond. I think that this means that jasper and lapis might join the crystal gems (we already know that peridot has ).
ugh cant wait for Steven to come back. Theory vids are great even if they end up wrong or dont turn out how u expect.

You think Yellow Diamond is going to attept a Xerxes on Amethyst eh? Never thought of that one. I know she's gonna get involved at some point, but I often wonder how & why. Earth has been written off, and it's literally a time bomb. Why should she care?
I think Steven is a weapon. It's not his main role, but I think it is definitely something Rose planned for. Maybe as a leader of warriors, or as a leader of peace.
or like, because Steven is half human half gem. it shows that they can live together. so if someone, supposedly a higher up, sees that. well u know what I'm trying to say...

Well, look at what Yellow Diamond knows. She knows there's gems on the planet because Peridot reported it in Marble Madness, she knows their ship being destroyed probably WASN'T an accident, and she knows that after this "accident" somehow Peridot became convinced by someone or something that they should cancel the Cluster. So it's actually pretty logical for her to assume that the gems somehow took down her ship and a Jasper and shouldn't be underestimated and that they're probably going to get in the way of the Cluster forming successfully. So Yellow Diamond actually does have a very good reason to at least send someone to Earth to stomp out the insurrection and make sure things go according to plan or even capture the gems to make an example out of them.

She probably just didn't assume that any of the gems would be as strong as garnet. Even then, Yellow Diamond has always been about efficiency and one Jasper actually probably would be enough to take out the gems (not counting fusion) because if you look at the Jasper/Garnet fight, Jasper actually does pretty much just destroy Garnet for most of it until Garnet manages to throw her into the core. Which means that Garnet's future vision probably did tell her it was the most probable way to end the encounter even though the ship crashing would put the entire group at risk. Throw in the power of the ship itself which could have just as easily stopped the gems if it wasn't for Steven, and I think Yellow Diamond actually did make the best possible choice for dealing with the threat of "4 or 5 gems breaking Peridot's stuff with 0 fully-formed Quartz's" given the available information.
Somehow I doubt we'll ever see Yellow Diamond bring the full armada against the gems because it's simply not efficient at all to put that much effort into securing one geo-weapon, but I could see her coming on her own with one or two powerful fighters for backup and just trashing the Crystal Gems like they're nothing. I think if Yellow Diamond does arrive, it'll be less about "how do we defeat her?" and more about "how do we stop the Cluster while keeping her from finding us?" I mean, as big of a deal as they make the Diamonds out to be, I don't think they could take her even if they had Rose on their side to join in on the fusion.
Hey! Congratulations on the 6,000+ subscribers, it seems that number's shot up quite a bit even since you posted this video, and I'd definitely say it's fondness well-earned.
This is probably one of the better takes I've seen on Rose behind Steven; I really like your line about "Someone playing a long game who has finally won." A lot of people point out Rose seems sinister in this scene and a couple of others, but it doesn't seem like much effort is made to tie it in to her canon behavior.
Rose definitely seems like she has a larger plan here than what we've seen, and, like you mentioned in Pearl's segment, I think she did hide some of it because she felt like the Crystal Gems, particularly Pearl, would not take it well. We know she felt guilty about it from 'We Need To Talk', and she might've justified things by saying it's for other people's good when it might've been at least partially driven by her own guilt.
The idea that Steven might be Rose's masterstroke is something that speaks to me, but what if that's not necessarily in a bad way? After all, if Rose's intention was to defeat Homeworld, or prevail against an enemy, it doesn't make sense to give up her powerful and experienced self for Steven who has to grow into his powers and who might make a totally different call. It also doesn't make sense for her to create Steven long after the war, and before there was any indication of Homeworld returning.
What if Rose looked at Earth after the war and saw just how many ghosts her actions had left behind, and her "long game" that you mentioned is the idea of making peace? That while Rose wanted to protect Earth, she came to realize how much that protection cost, and she wanted to find a way to still protect Earth, while bringing in a new perspective who wouldn't have the lingering grudge that she herself might have.
Steven is the answer to Rose's long game. And he's made bold strides in that direction already, with the corrupted Gems, with Lapis, with Peridot.
Rose being depicted in a sinister light in this regard might be seen as... arguably, she's sympathizing with "the enemy" by wanting to have some way to reconnect with Homeworld. Garnet and Pearl, who did what they did at least in part because they believed in Rose's cause, might view this as a bit of a betrayal. But I think it's interesting that our "homegrown heroes" as you say, the ones who are connected to Earth, and the Gem side of Earth that Rose created after the war... are the ones with the least malice towards Homeworld. Rose's children, biologically (Steven) and adopted (Amethyst), may be the forerunners for the Crystal Gems reconnecting with Homeworld.
And, not to shamelessly plug my own theories on your video, but... if one of them is correct, there might be another "child" of Rose's who could also be instrumental in that...
Great vid. Your theories are great. I really think Pearl's endgame is taking a personal, leading role in freeing the other Pearls in Homeworld's empire, because it brings her story full circle. She can leave the position she's occupied in her own mind for thousands of years, that of slave given personhood or recognition as a person only because of Rose Quartz and for that reason eternally in Rose's service.
If you could only know what we really are . When we arrived on earth from out beyond your star. You didn't notice the facial shock of her letting that first part slip but most of us didn't . Can't wait for the two parter tonight

+sapphiremantis Yea I can see how that could be a mistake. And honestly I cant see any other REAL evedence that she is evil in any way. Yea she betrayed her home world but she did it bc she had to to protect a species. I dontbthink she would have a child with the solve purpose to kill. I see steven as a peacmaker. He can act as a sort of interprater to she the gems and humans how they can work togeather and how they can improvement eachother. So far hes been great at that.

Saying all that I do think that her being evil would be an incredible twist. It would be heartbreaking, I would probably cry for weeks in a cold shower, but imagine how badass villain Rose would be.

Ive heard the idea about Rose and how she's "Presenting" steven. Like it makes so much sense that shed be using steven as a pawn sort of.

Something I'd like to put in for amathyst, and I could be wrong here, but when she regenerated from being proofed by Jasper in the episode where Stevonnie, and Lion fought Jasper, and the corrupted gem. Amathyst looked like she was corrupting for a frame or two, I could be looking to much into it, or it could have been either a foreshadow for Jasper's corruption, but I thought I'd say it. (Mainly because I haven't seen anyone say anything about it) Again I could be wrong, and it could have been foreshadowing, a random drawing for the light that looked strange to me, or just references to how she formed in past episodes I just thought I'd say something.
Hey AJ! I just started watching your videos, so I don't know if you've mentioned it before. But have you ever thought that maybe... Steven is similar to Lapis and the mirror? Just maybe... That Steven is merely an object to have gems embed in? If the Gem is merely giving steven magical powers of rose, it would explain why Jasper would mistake steven for a shape shifted Rose, Is made out of flesh, and can still use gem powers... Maybe it's a Gem preservation / healing experiment?... I don't know. Just wanted to put it out there.

Why would rose need to preserve herself as Steven however gems are practically immortal unless their gems are cracked and rose can heal broken gems it's not stated if she can heal her own gem but until it's stated otherwise that's what we know
I think you have some good points. I really want to know more about Rose and what her plans are. I really like her as a character and it will be hard learning all of the bad things about her but it seems inevitable. I would be shocked if they kept her in a good light the entire run of the show

I actually believe that Amethyst would take up Yellow Diamond's offer, since shes almost looked down by Pearl and Garnet. They always talk negative about the kindergarten, and it always hits home for Amethyst because that's her whole life, so she probably still thinks that she's a 'defective gem'

Listening to the intro theme again I defiantly heard 5 voices. But it wasn't Rose Quartz's voice, it was Peridot's.
But of course now she's like a crystal gem so.... :D YAY FOR FORESHADOWING.
I also hope he'll grow his own personality and what he wants to fight for. ( especially with the bismuth episode)

The others were probably trying to deal with Lapis while Amethyst and Steven were to deal with Jasper.
Jasper felt so desperate so she offers a deal with Amethyst.
The deal is that Amethyst will be given a tour to homeworld, in exchange that she won't bubble Jasper.
Amethyst agrees to this deal.
She was amazed by homeworld.
She felt like earth is nothing compared to homeworld.
So she decided to stay.
Let me know how you think Amethyst or the others is gonna be evil.

When Steven says "I will fight to be everything everyone wants me to be when I'm grown" to me that's very off putting... Something about him striving to be what others want him to be just seems... wrong ~.~ Also, for a character such a Rose, who up until this point has basically been talked about as if she were a saint, to be shown in such a way where she looks so sinister, that has to mean something.

hahahahaha i knew i was on the right track to your theory. My smile is just like Rose's in that extend intro, because i'm riding a royal flush after betting all in, and you just called. Read 'em and weep. Serioiusly, the picture looks like she just showed her hand after betting all in and Homeworld called. Steven's the royal flush and I doubt Homeworld can match that.
Garnet's Message includes that the Homeworld is very anti-gai and pearls says that she is a (crazy) fanatic. I think Amethyst message is positive. Ofcourse it comes from ignorance, but the crystal gems don't really have a chance to show her Homeworld. Also I think you are right on Steven's message. He expects to much of himself. And the image at 6 min of Roses is really creepy and I think it supports the Theory that Rose is not as good hearted as everyone thinks. For someone who is thousands upon thousands of years old. to just go away only a few years bfore these events seems a little odd for a coincedence. What her plan is and what she knew we may never know.
I always felt that Pearl doesn't have enough of a self identity, only trying to take after Rose. She even says in her line that she's fighting in her name. It makes me wonder if Pearl even has any true personal ties to Earth. I wasn't really bothered by it all until you mentioned it here on your video. Perhaps in the future, some revelation about Rose could potentially shatter Pearl (no, not *that* shatter) and leave her broken.

Even before the last Stevenbomb I thought it unlikely that Amethyst would turn on the CG following some deal with Homeworld, for while we'd never met the Diamonds we had seen the behavior of their agents. Even if I were to dismiss what Greg had said in The Return as merely ignorant regurgitation of Rose's propaganda, I could not forget the casualness of Peridot's intention to smash Steven out of pique, or Jasper's contemptuous ordering of the destruction of the Crystal Gems and Steven (not to mention her "unprofessional" manner towards Lapis, Sapphire and even Peridot. Subordinates tend to take the manners of their superiors, and if the Diamonds set the example for their minions I thought it likely that they would see Amethyst as a failed gem worth only for harvesting.

That would be a pretty good book end to the show if Homeworld and the Crystal gems were to finally make peace. For some reason, I believe that the Cluster is not just formed from the shards of dead crystal gems but also dead homeworld gems and I think that no one else on homeworld but the high ranking gems the Diamond authority. I don't think that if that is true and it got out that any homeworld gems would be very happy knowing that their lives mean nothing to their leaders. I say that whole cluster thing because of what Peridot says in When it rains. She said that the cluster gems were "grown." You can't grow a dead body, which means Peridot doesn't truly know everything. It would also be pretty cool if it was Peridot who revealed this possible lie and she truly became redeemed and a full member of the crystal gems.

As you pointed out, yes, rose does seem to be holding steven as her ... trump card of sorts. And this could also be shown in her facial expression. She has that sort of creepy Mephisto grin on her face.If you have read or watched the blue exorcist series, Mephisto, who by the way is high ranking in true cross academy, and also a very powerful demon king, stands for trial on behalf of the main character, Rin ocumera, stating he, and his friend, fujimoto, had been Raising Rin as a weapon for the order of the true cross. Rin, himself being a powerful demon, they believed that he was powerful enough to defeat satan.I feel that if under the circumstances, Rose had left the crystal jems in charge of raising a weapon, of for the sake of the story, a sheild for the earth, against home world.
I feel like Rose's smile might have been less creepy if we could see her eyes. Her smile is one of victory, yes, but MAYBE it wasn't intended to look that creepy? Maybe it was intended to be a smile of glee, joy that her son is throwing himself whole heartedly into his purpose. Maybe if her eyes had been showing, her smile would have looked more innocent. Eyes can have a VERY big effect on expression.
