I love that you walked us through your thinking regarding what you kept and what you let go. You are certainly generous with your beautiful quilts. The world needs more people like you.
When I first started quilting I gave away a quilt and the recipient put it away and never used it, because of this I haven’t given any quilts away since then. Last year we moved and I realized the number of quilts in my house was overwhelming. So I went through them and made a pile of quilts I was willing to give away. Now when someone compliments a quilt I ask would you like one and if they say yes we troop up to the closet and they pick which one they want. I have given quilts to delivery men, my daughter’s friends, a local quilt guild and it’s easier with everyone I give away. I really need to do my fabric next!
It’s important to keep what we will use and pass along things we won’t to others to benefit them. This is actually true of all of our stuff. In my 70’s, I’ve had to clean out my dad and mom’s home and my in-laws home. I don’t want my kids or other family members to have too much to do. I’d rather give it away myself. I know who will cherish those gifts. Thanks Pat. I love your tidying up videos. 🥰
You are exactly right! I've had to clean out homes of a few relatives and in turn it's really made me be kind of ruthless with my own things. I no longer hang on to every little scrap, pattern, quilt top or work in progress if I don't really like it. I'm sure as it is, when my time comes, hopefully not for a long time, that there will be plenty of things for family to take as it is. And I want to let them know now that they should never feel guilty passing things along to others who might appreciate it. I have given away quilt tops, precut, fabrics, etc to fellow quilters, the rest is donated to thrift stores. I have zero regrets
I’ve had to do the same thing and I have 2 sisters and a brother. I told them when I’d be there and they should come over and choose what they wanted that belonged to our parents. I kept what I wanted but the rest of them didn’t show up, not even to help. So what I didn’t take either went to charity or to the garbage. Now I’m determined to get that done before I die so my kids ont have to do it
So we are in the process of packing to move from Arkansas to Kentucky. I am culling through my clothing, my glass ware my dishes and most importantly my sewing space. It is a hard process but I feel so much lighter as I work through all of this. Choosing to keep only those things that you truly use and love involves so much of your thought processes but in the end it is a good thing.
Yes, doing a similar organization process, including measurements of fabric pieces and what projects it can be used for. Also lining fabrics for those future projects ideas Going to inventory every craft item next January. In deep with you.
Thank you, Pat. Great video! I’ve been doing this for some time now. And it’s amazing how many books, patterns and fabrics I’ve parted with, and haven’t really missed a lot. I’m in the middle of another pass through and have already filled another box for the charity sewing group in my guild. Tomorrow I’ll be going through UFOs, asking myself, "do I really want to finish this quilt?" We also have a free table at our meetings, so a lot goes on there too. The result is a freeing feeling. And since I have decided not to start anything new until the UFOs are done or gone, I’m really motivated! 🥰
I have been doing this downsizing (because of my age 74 - can't do it all anymore) for a couple years and now have it under control. I feels so good. I've quilted 28 tops and used most of my stash. With what is left I am making lap size checkerboard quilts. If you twirl a 4 patch they all magically nest together. I'm even enjoying hand quilting them now with big stitches.
I've purged and organized 2x. The first time was a couple years ago and I gave away so many crafts, fabrics and how to books to a friend with young daughters who would enjoy them. Just before Christmas 2024 I went thru all my fabrics and organized the smaller pieces and fat quarters into bins which I labeled by color( this was by far the most helpful for me already!). My yardage is in drawers. Clearing the clutter, organizing and labeling has given me such pleasure! Now when I'm in my sewing room everything has a place and I love it! And yes it was a huge mess while I went thru everything!
My goal this year is to use what I have!! I have so many baskets with all the fabric and pattern waiting to made. This is my year to get it done! I love the tidy up days 😂😊
All the things Pat: I needed to create projects with the fabrics I have, realized I have items I no longer love so I gave to a group who sews for local charity. A win-win!
Even though I’m not working on the same thing right now, I always appreciate seeing other people’s thought processes as they’re decluttering their space, and weeding their fabrics/books/patterns. It sounds counterintuitive, but having less to choose from often means you end up using more of what you have. We see it in libraries a lot. When we weed our collections so that the shelves are half to 3/4 full, circulation usually goes up. I think it’s because you can see what’s there more easily and the sheer amount isn’t so overwhelming.
Good progress! I need to work hard on the room that I call my "Craft Room" which has nothing to do with sewing/quilting. When we moved into this house 8 years ago it was intended to be a room for my crocheting and knitting supplies, and a space to get our 3 grown kids photos organized. Unfortunately it's turned into a catch-all junk room. I appreciate your Tidy Up videos and need to get in the midset to get that room decluttered! Thanks for the inspiration. 🥰 The Panda fabric that Kendall sent you is from Tula Pink's Lineworks fabric line. Nothing to do with today's video, but the Lineworks fabric line is what I've decided to use for my Tula 100 Modern Blocks quilt. I have 1 layer cake, 2 jelly rolls, and Lineworks yardage so I won't have to buy anything to make a beautiful quilt and it'll all be Tula. Win-Win for me!
I do need to do this also. I have at least 6 "under the bed" containers of fabric pieces, all less than a yard that I have saved in my finished basement. I used to sew for our girls and our "baby" is now 42! Yes some of my fabric is at least 30 years old! I'm beginning to cut leftovers down to 2 1/2 squares or strips and 5" squares if they are smaller. I'm also starting to use some older fabric inside pillows when I quilt the top so I am using more of it and keeping the memory too! Thanks for showing what you are doing. I do like new fabrics too so I need to give much of this extra away. I have trouble finding what I need and need to thin stuff out so our daughters do not have this to manage someday. Thanks for all you do for us Pat!
Seeing YOUR process is helpful 😊 After a year (‘24) of health issues… and now feeling like myself again.. I’ve been deep cleaning my quilting space. Rearranging furniture, (making my situation more functional), dusting, vacuuming, sorting, all around cleaning… I really don’t have much I’m want to pass on YET! However, it feels good to have a better clue of my inventory of fabric, patterns, kits, etc😅 putting this effort in, makes my space a true happy space that I can enjoy and relax in. I’m starting to feel rejuvenates ❤
I have to do patterns that I printed off every year. I have so many notebooks by different types like Christmas, bags quilts, paper piecing and more. Will I sew them all up probably not but I do collect them. lol.
Great Inspiration! One of my sewing goals this year is to Finally get a handle on organizing my fabric, but in doing so I realized I just have Too Much!! So I am decluttering also. I agree you Must be in the right mindset or it just becomes emotional & overwhelming.
I appreciate you talk about having to be in the right mindset to do certain tasks. That is very true for me. I have learned to capitalize on those times when I am up to sorting and letting things go.
My tidy has been delayed a month or so.... we moved last April, downsizing about 1400 sq feet and then set about renovating. SO once construction is completed, I have major reorganizing and offloading to do !
Yes vacuum and don't forget to vacuum out the inside of your computer. Mine stopped working and I took it in. My cousin let me know how much lint was in it so it was heating things up so I couldn't even turn on my computer.
Thank you for your channel. I always learn so much. I'm 72 and I am cutting down to make better use of my space. I have a limited space but I'm hoping to have my dream sewing room, in a few years. I'm combining sewing with organizing. I tried just organizing and got really frustrated. I get cranky when I can't sew. I have given away most of my quilts but want to decorate with my quilts like you do. You are very inspiring. Thanks so much
I’ve been splitting my time up. Like if I have a 2 hour window… I set the timer… sort or organize (in my sewing space) for 30 minutes and then reward myself with 1.5 hours sew time 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Pat. I am seriously considering going through my stash of all my crafting materials. But I always seem to have things to make which take up so much time that I don’t get around to it. But this year I hope will be the year. Thank you for the inspiration to move towards a big tidy session. Hx💕🧶🧵
Love these decluttering and organization videos...I know it's not easy, as I said on yesterday's video, I'm in the process, but, not necessarily my sewing room. I don't have that much fabric...(Need some.) I decided to get my own carpet cleaner so now, I've spent several days and will spend more days cleaning rugs and carpets...I have had so little time to sew and it's starting to bother me!
Thank you for your great efforts in your "tidy-up", Pat. I have been organizing a bit every day for the past week and feel very accomplished. It's such a pleasure to walk into my quilt room to view everything in its place with all the projects stacked in order in their art bins. I say yay! 🎉
I am doing a huge move and downsizing. My mom's stuff, my stuff from being in sewing shop, and stuff from sewing and making quilts. Had a bakery in between those too. Golly I have felt so overwhelmed, but I am seeing the light!!!
Hi Pat! First off-how ironic that you have your Home Is hanging up! I just changed out my quilts & took down the Christmas tree one hanging in the dining room window & put up my Home Is because I did a black dog that looks like our Shih-Tzu Ranger. We had to let go of him Apr. '19-he was 16 1/2 yrs old so seeing this up makes me happy 🥰🥰 About the culling out-I'm part of a group of ladies that meet the 3rd Monday of every month in a community center in a little neighboring town. They are not all quilters, but most are. A couple don't do any crafts, just come to visit. I take bags of stuff to let them pick thru every month. Some make charity quilts. It's supposed to be 18 here Sunday night & high of 33 Monday. It takes a while to heat up the place we use, so we're canceling for Monday. I already have quite alot stacked up to take so Randy said by next month I'll need to rent a U-Haul to take stuff!!!
Thank you for a very timely and very REAL video! I have been trying to do this for quite some time (Less is More in '24 was my motto last year, lol) in all areas of my home...and while I can look at something and say that can go, when it comes to physically getting rid of something, it is a completely different matter! The struggle is real, but just taking it one day/step at a time, little by little I am making progress...and you are so right, you have to be in the right frame of mind and also know when to give yourself grace and take a break!! Trust me it will still be there when you are ready to get back to it! For 2025 I am just trying to be more mindful and use what I have before adding more to what I already know is too much!
I’m at the point that I will never use all the fabric I own. It’s hard to get rid of it, but I’m thinking of just keeping a half of yard and then passing on the rest. Make bundles and or layer cakes. 🤷🏼♀️
I did a huge clean out of my fabric and supplies several years ago. After watching this video, I'm thinking it may be time to do it again. Thanks for the inspiration!
Yup downsizing fabric, as before too long i won’t have a lot of room for it. Most of it is kids and patterns or colors I would only use for charity sewing. So donating most of it to charities, so I know it will go to the same purpose in the end as I intended, just that I won’t be sewing it myself. I did find a local group I donated some to, and have decided I would go to some of their sewing days, and participate, so that way I can still donate time to charity, but those folks will be storing the fabric needed instead of me. So a workable solution .
It’s hard to clear out the excess. You definitely have to be in the right frame of mind. It’s definitely exhausting and things always look worse before they get better. I’m going to seriously address fabric this winter. I feel the weight of it every time I go into my sewing room.
I purge every summer but have been purging for a couple of years, anticipating a big move. It's definitely a hard thing to do, but really love having extra space for the things I actually love. Love seeing your process.
I’m purging my quilts!! I just donated over 20 quilts to family and friends!! I went from 3 large bins to just one! Don’t worry I still have at least 20 left and am making more!
I should be doing the reducing, but I'm not ready. I have reduced buying fabric and have been using more of the fabric I already own. And I've decided not to buy fabric just because I like it or it's on sale. I have to have an active project that needs a fabric in order to buy it. That's my intention for this year. I need to extend that intention to the free table at the guild meetings as well.
Love all your tidy up videos. My problem sorting fabric is bigger pieces. Too small to go with the yardage, like 1 yd but that's too big to fit withe the small stuff. Guess I have to start making a lot of scrap quilts lol
I need to do a deep dive too, but getting myself into the mind frame to get ruthless about it is very hard for me. I need to keep at it though because I don't want my son to feel overwhelmed about it some day. I definitely would feel better if I just go through my fabric and donate a bunch. I have way too much and I'm finding these days I like working with the new collections too.
I recently inherited my Mother in laws sewing machine and embroidery machine. Along came more fabric in my life and sewing supplies. I have been trying to organize my sewing room and supplies with hers. Pat you have been so helpful in sharing your skills in organization for me. Thank you!
I still have some of your original fabric lines in my stash! Just getting back to quilting as a retirement hobby and needing to downsize hugely at the same time. Thanks for the encouragement 😊
I moved a table that was against a wall out of my sewing area where I tended to just pile stuff and bought two Ikea Billy bookcases for that wall. I'm doing some culling as I'm rearranging my fabric. And using some of the shelves for projects in process so I don't lose track of them.
I have been thinking about doing something like this, but I’m not quite ready to begin. Like you stated, I have to be in the right frame of mind for this kind of task. Thanks for sharing your process as it has given me some things to think about. Thankfully, you have a group to give your “abundance” to that can make good use of it. Enjoy your weekend! ❤
Pat, Happy New Year! I just started watching this series of your's. Love it. I liked the block you showed on how to cut the fabric in triangles and sew to a center square piece and continue on. I want to try that. I'm in dire need of decluttering my sewing room. Taking it a little at a time.
I tackled my fabric stash last January. It took several weeks, but I got most of it under control. I didn't touch projects/kits or scraps and still have a full tub of fabric I never got to. Kits, the tub of fabric, and my hall closet that's full of fabric and lace I'll never use are my deep clean goals for this year. I desperately need to get my sewing stuff under control. It's taken over 3 areas of my house on top of my sewing room.
Good for you Pat. What really caught my eye was your beautiful red, white and black improv square with the cute dogs! I am however sad that it’s improv as I would pay for that pattern.
Thank you Pat for sharing your process. It's helpful to learn how to determine what goes to others and what to hang onto. I have fabrics I just know I'll never use. It's colors I just don't like anymore. Have a great day 😊!
It is something that has to be done from time to time. My sewing room is also what I call my guest bedroom. The room has a double size bed, a small dresser full of projects, a bookcase with quilt books and cookbooksm a very small nightstand, and oh yes, a desk with my television on it with space underneath for my cross stitch bin. Thankfully, my bed sits high enough that I can store boxes of fabric under it, and I have double size closets where I store everything else. Yes, I am trying to use up my scraps in scrappy quilts and using my fabrics to make charity quilts. When I can take some empty storage containers to the attic, I feel like giving myself a medal. Lol
Oh I keep trying to do this. My issue is I keep 'collecting' more faster than I actually sew. I'm rather ADD about my sewing. Let's make bags, let's make quilts, let's spend days designing on paper and doing the math, etc, et. But I do put everything away when done. I need it looking tidy or my mind swirls.
Oh my goodness that is such exhausting work to do. I'm closer to 76 now and being brutally honest with myself. I NEED to use up fabric and make clear instructions as to what my son needs to do with them when I leave this earth. Fortunately I make a lot of charity hugs for a UK charity . 20 made last year plus table toppers and a couple of quilts for me. I've been through my stash on trolleys ( I store them in my eaves cupboards in my sewing room in the loft of my small house) and since October have pieced 7 tops made from leftovers using and finishing off lengths to go with them. I've also rearranged my room and now have a good sized piece of carpet for my design floor "wall". It feels good to see things going out as I realise that I want to work with new fabric and have plenty of bundles and layer cakes for that with a good selection of solids/blenders to go with them. Our care leavers are so stunned at what we offer that it makes me want to make even more while the body and brain is willing. It's a wonderful sense of achievement when you look at a tidy clean area and know exactly what fabric you have. It's so worth it and the exhaustion in getting there. Well done to Pat for showing what we can do to streamline our lives.
You are doing fabulous for 76! What a blessing you are. I’m 77 and some days feel like I’m running toward the finish line without enough time to get it all done. Finishing quilts for charities has been my goal for past several years too. You go girl!! Blessings, Dawn Central Valley California
I had many fabric pieces that I was frankly, just tired of because I had had them for so long. I sent them to my cousin and she made a beautiful quilt with them. I never would have chosen those fabrics for another quilt. It was great to make someone else happy and see those fabrics get a new life.
Watching the video late today, you just mentioned people in the past using ribbons from funerals. I have a whole quilt, unused, that my great grandmother made and hand quilted with the satin ribbons from my great grandfather’s funeral in the 1950’s, one of my treasures!
Oh how many memories you have stirred!! I remember Mama making blocks on newsprints and then after the quilts were made mulling over the fabrics-my dress, dad’s shirt, brother’s shirt, mama’s dress. Thank you so much for going through this process with us.
I am taking my bins and pulling out all the one yard pieces I have. Then making 3 yard bundles to give to my quilt guild for members to take and make charity quilts. I also found lots of pieces to make and donate pillow cases for the group that is in charge of that for our guild. I am finding myself free and light knowing that I have reduced the unwanted fabric that no longer speaks to me, but also knowing others will appreciate and love what I have made. How does all this fabric get into my sewing bins!!!
Kudos to you for this years tidy up. I know how mentally exhausting this can be. Here's my ? or maybe a suggestion. Since you told us about the Lutheran WW relief, I found a Lutheran Church ladies group who make the quilts. I was on a yearly purge and asked if they would like my bits from my parts centre as I was starting to pay attention to my age and how much I wanted to do. I decided that they could have my parts centre contribution every year. They loved getting them and it was a huge relief for me. No longer did I have to have those hanging over me when I really didn't want to deal with it. Too good to garbage but I wanted to use up my large pieces rather than deal with that. So, ? Or answer, I don't know but maybe it will help you.
I'm happy that worked for you!! I have homes for all my things, no problem there. Did you think I didn't know where to send it? I tried to make it clear i have a plan in place
I've been paring down my 30 years of fabric over the last year. I have a long way to go to get my stash down to only the things that I love. Everytime I take a load to donate it takes weight off my shoulders! This month I'm working on removing any unfinished projects that can go to a new home. Then all the extra empty bins go to the Treasures for Teachers. Thanks Pat for more inspiration.🤩
I loved this video sooo much! I think Im Ready to go back to my sewing room! And Pat, I KNOW you can’t, but I wish you could do raffles, so we could win one quilt made by you. I feel envy for all the places that get your quilts😅 thank you for your video.
I’m in the same process. I’m in my 70’s and just don’t want to look at all the “stuff” anymore. I want to keep what I like and will use (hopefully) and donating a lot to a quilt guild for charity quilts. I try to do sone each day so I still have a little time for sewing and cross stitching.
Thank you Pat Sloan for sharing a piece of your world with us!. Totally enjoy watching how you organize your space!. Motivates me to pretty my space up!.
I moved into my parents home after they passed. First time I’ve have the ability to actually have a sewing storage area! So nice to have a space to put all my fabric! I also am using plastic baskets! I’m in the process of sorting ! It’s a job- and yes, I have to be in the mindset!!!
You are planting a seed in this relatively new quilter of how to manage the process when it is needed. And it will be needed sooner than I think I am sure! 😂😂 Thank you for sharing your thought processes and talking about motivation and giving yourself grace in the process when it is not going as you hope.
Good morning Pat......I am not a charity, I'm just a 69+ yr old retiree who just started quilting, but wish I was so I could be a recipient of some of your leftover fabrics. I haven't developed a stash and being retired and with the high cost of fabric developing one is a slow process. BTW....I too am a lover of Fig Newtons and I feel too that they have changed over the years.
I'm starting the same process with a stash from a friend who passed away a yer and a half ago. It's time to let go of most of what I haven't sewn or have plans to sew. Hard and sad, but my space and sanity have to come first. Thanks for sharing. You've helped me be ready to move forward.
You are inspiring me! I had to do a major clean-up a couple of years a go, to fit a long arm in my room, but it's time again. I just need to find the time and get it done!!! I love fig newton's and your right they don't taste the same.
So inspirational! I love putting the bins on their side which is a great idea. Every January I pull out all my fabric and decide what I am donating to my guild members. And, I vow not to buy any fabric during the year…..which is impossible💕
My working stash is in clear plastic Sterilite drawers. The overflow is in Rubbermaid tubs under my long arm. About a year ago I realized that my 3 drawers of blue fabric were half empty. I dumped them out, sorted them into light, medium & dark into the empty drawers. Then I went through the tubs and pulled out ALL the blue fabric to "re-stock" the drawers. I was able to eliminate one of the Rubbermaid tubs. My goal is to free up enough drawer space in every color to eventually not have the tubs. Although a tub & 1/2 are just large pieces for backings and 2 tubs are 4 years of Civil War BOMS. Hopefully, I can tackle a block or 2 each month. As long as I'm healthy and able to sew (about 20 quilts a year) I am not purging the stash yet. I rarely buy fabric but the free table at my sewing group is where I fall off the wagon.
My goals this year are UFO’s, meaning tops. I’ll move on to quilting the tops, have 12 that need to be quilted. But first I’ll open my container that holds my orphan blocks. Havnt looked in that container in 5 years. Don’t know how many blocks are in there.
Pat, I love watching your process of reducing and it is a process!! It is hard to let things go but so refreshing after. It has taken me a few years. My house is getting there but my sewing room I left until last. It is exhausting but I have come to think of my room as a container and it can hold only so much. I have to decide what is more important. I can’t keep it all!! Thank you!
I know how you feel! I've been purging and cleaning a spare room ,that's a catch all! Moving, furniture, vacuuming!! Removed some wallpaper. We have lived here 24 years! Got some wall border coming, need to paper trim and put room back together.Need to do my fabric too,at some point! Good luck! When it's done, it'll be beautiful!!!
My fabric room has become over loaded from years of people gifting me there unwanted fabrics I too have started to purge fabric and it is so hard. I think about the people who gave it to me, some have passed. My donate to a local church that make missions quilts. That makes it a little easier. Your doing a great job. I love your video and watch them all do some of your sew along and some I just watch the fun and lean. Thank you for all you share.
Hi Pat-thanks for sharing your process of purging! I am beginning the process and find that I get stalled even though I am highly motivated. This is my second lifetime purge, but this one has even more of everything! I LOVE the needle arts; all of them! I retired almost 3 years ago and my 3 children, while talented in other ways, don’t share the passion for making in the same way. My biggest obstacle is where to donate. My spirit is giving and I only wish to pass some of these things on to people who would love to have them. Any suggestions on where to donate would help me immensely! A local library loves to take my books (on any craft, sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking subject so for that I am grateful. I recently pitched every American Patchwork and Quilting magazine from the beginning! I stopped the subscription about 4 years ago; but I also have many other publishers. Yikes….the brain was working much faster than my time allowed. I have been blessed to be able to create many things over the years for people and myself, but it is time to get my passion in control! I like that you have thought about what you like sewing with NOW. Anyway, please keep the suggestions coming as I am 2 years older than you and am really feeling the desire to get this task completed. Thanks for all you share! 🥰

Just LOVE this episode for my life right now. Your rationale helps greatly. This is very hard for me to do…thank you!
I'm doing a big tidy up too this weekend. Not as big as yours, but a lot of reorganizing ❤
I need to go through my baskets too. I can definitely see the difference in yours before and after
Yes, doing a similar organization process, including measurements of fabric pieces and what projects it can be used for. Also lining fabrics for those future projects ideas Going to inventory every craft item next January. In deep with you.
❤ Great video. Your advice is so on point.
I neglected to say, I’m doing my whole house. The sewing room is the hardest! 😉
good for you! it is not an easy task
Fig Newtons! YES!!!
Haven't started my sewing rm yet, but am deep cleaning whole house. Love the feeling of this when it's DONE!
I loved Susi-Qs. I tried them one year, and they were not the same. 😊
I think so much of the taste change is the reduction of sugar and the changes in the recipes to accomplish that.
You did good. I’m in the process too. ❤️
I need to do that too! I’m 70 so time is ticking away!
The Panda fabric that Kendall sent you is from Tula Pink's Lineworks fabric line.
You can do it! Break it into small tasks that are doable. It will take time, but it can be done
Will I sew them all up probably not but I do collect them. lol.
I am from Newton Massachusetts. Somehow, they were invented there !!!
I interesting. I just cut up my entire pink bin into 7 inch squares. Making ispy quilts for 2 granddaughters.
Thank you SO much for today’s tidy up challenge! I have been wanting to do this for a long long time! You have motivated me to get started!
Like if I have a 2 hour window…
I set the timer… sort or organize (in my sewing space) for 30 minutes and then reward myself with 1.5 hours sew time 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for sharing your process, it definitely motivates me to get busy and organize my fabrics. ♥️
You are a great motivator. Please keep doing what you're doing.
I so need to do this too many small pieces I saved. I love what you are doing.
My husband and I used to always take fig newtons on our road trips. I still like them.
It helps me
Love all your tidy up videos. My problem sorting fabric is bigger pieces. Too small to go with the yardage, like 1 yd but that's too big to fit withe the small stuff. Guess I have to start making a lot of scrap quilts lol
bonus of cleaning is finding things you have forgotten...great job sizing down with terrific inspiration...well done!
I am in spring cleaning mode. Look forward to seeing your Mom's pink quilt.
This is helpful, not just for fabric, but for some other downsizing i hv started recently. Thanks for inspiration
Blessings, Dawn
Central Valley California
You have definitely inspired me to go through my stuff (treasures) again. Thanks, Becky
I had many fabric pieces that I was frankly, just tired of because I had had them for so long. I sent them to my cousin and she made a beautiful quilt with them. I never would have chosen those fabrics for another quilt. It was great to make someone else happy and see those fabrics get a new life.
I feel like a weight has been lifted from me just by watching what you are clearing out! 😊
Watching the video late today, you just mentioned people in the past using ribbons from funerals. I have a whole quilt, unused, that my great grandmother made and hand quilted with the satin ribbons from my great grandfather’s funeral in the 1950’s, one of my treasures!
Super cool you have a quilt from your G-Grandma
Just wondering, How are ribbons associated with funerals?
@ they were the bows from the flowers sent to the funeral.
Oh how many memories you have stirred!! I remember Mama making blocks on newsprints and then after the quilts were made mulling over the fabrics-my dress, dad’s shirt, brother’s shirt, mama’s dress. Thank you so much for going through this process with us.
Your sorting through and purging is helpful! Thank you.
Thanks, Pat for the encouragement! It's looking great and, I bet, feeling even better! 🤩
The “Silent Night” blocks were very inspiring to me :) thanks
Loved to see your previous quilting!! I’ve done this and you are correct about the process. My stash is big enough so I’m quilting with what I have. 😊
Love the trip down memory lane. January is a time to get/make a fresh start on things. Thanks for sharing. Take care!
Hi would love to see some of your class samples or blocks in a future video if possible. Enjoying seeing your process.
I'm starting the same process with a stash from a friend who passed away a yer and a half ago. It's time to let go of most of what I haven't sewn or have plans to sew. Hard and sad, but my space and sanity have to come first. Thanks for sharing. You've helped me be ready to move forward.
This is so inspirational! I have been quilting and teaching for 25 years. It is possible to have TOO much!
Love watching your process!
I am so envious of your red woven baskets. Can anyone give me a source for them. I love how you can use them for your individual colors.
It is a daunting task for me to divide what to keep.
