▶️COOL INFORMATION ABOUT TRAILERS
A trailer is an unpowered vehicle towed by a powered vehicle. It is commonly used for the transport of goods and materials.
Sometimes recreational vehicles, travel trailers, or mobile homes with limited living facilities, where people can camp or stay have been referred to as trailers. In earlier days, many such vehicles were towable trailers.
COOL INFORMATION ABOUT TRAILERS
United States
A truck pulling a semi-trailer using a trailer dolly.
In the United States, the term is sometimes used interchangeably with travel trailer and mobile home, varieties of trailers and manufactured housing designed for human habitation. Their origins lay in utility trailers built in a similar fashion to horse-drawn wagons. A trailer park is an area where mobile homes are placed for habitation.
In the United States trailers ranging in size from single-axle dollies to 6-axle, 13-foot-6-inch (4.11 m) high, 53-foot (16 m) long semi-trailers are commonplace. The latter, when towed as part of a tractor-trailer or "18-wheeler", carries a large percentage of the freight that travels over land in North America.
Types of trailers
ACP Backtracking genset trailer
Some trailers are made for personal (or small business) use with practically any powered vehicle having an appropriate hitch, but some trailers are part of large trucks called semi-trailer trucks for transportation of cargo.
Enclosed toy trailers and motorcycle trailers can be towed by commonly accessible pickup truck or van, which generally require no special permit beyond a regular driver's license. Specialized trailers like open-air motorcycle trailers, bicycle trailers are much smaller, accessible to small automobiles, as are some simple trailers, pulled by a drawbar and riding on a single set of axles. Other trailers, such as utility trailers and travel trailers or campers come in single and multiple axle varieties, to allow for varying sizes of tow vehicles.
There also exist highly specialized trailers, such as genset trailers, pusher trailers and their ilk that are also used to power the towing vehicle. Others are custom-built to hold entire kitchens and other specialized equipment used by
carnival vendors. There are also trailers for hauling boats.

You need to raise that hitch higher so the trailer is parallel to the ground. Other than the chain has to loop around the receiver chain loop, thanks for sharing the vid!
Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for making a video about your cousins uncle brothers bad big toenail. The video is labeled how to register a trailer if you could get to the point that would be great.
lol thank you for the feedback
Thanks for the video bro. Very helpful. Going to the CA DMV to do the same thing this week!
Thank you for your feedback, much apprecated!
Safety chains hooked up wrong. You make a simple cross not a couple times like you said. They appear to be too long so need to shorten. Also need to grease the trailer ball before coupling.
good safety feedback, I will keep that ming.
Can you pill this with just a regular class c licence? Or do you need another endorsement?
Regular class c license
i live in california too, do i need to get my harbor freight trailer insured as well? or is only registration required? thank you.
In California a another trailers are not registered but it's easy and cheap so I registered mine, I didn't insure the trailer because I think it's covered by my auto insurance. Have you tried calling your insurance company?
@@RANDOMFIX I havent called yet but will, thanks for the response.
Thy come with cheap 2 ply tires need to change tires out to 4 ply or 6 ply tires. Mine has 8 ply tires on it that have been on it for 5 years now and still looks like the day I both then keep a check on tire pressure every time I pull ir.
It.
I appreciate your constructive comments, thank you for the feedback!
Do you need a platform? Or can you just take it in bare frame?
You can just take bare frame. _Randomfix
@@RANDOMFIX Does the back of the title from harbor freight need to be completely fill out? On mines they just wrote Harbor Freight and signed it.
What’s the fastest speed you had this on the road ?
Turn you safety hooks around there more likely to jump out the way you have them now
Great info and thank you for letting me know, this was my first trailer.
Did you just drive it to the dmv? I thinking of getting one to throw together quick and registering it the following day
I didn't see your commeent before, do you still need help?
So you got the plates for it same day?
How has the trailer help up over the last year?
Yes, I got the plates the same. The trailer was great to have on the property vs having to buy a pickup truck. I sold it because of a move and next month I may need to buy another one. I got that one on sale for $180 and now they are running $499 at harbor freight. Total cost will spare and accessories will be about $750 now.
@@RANDOMFIX thanks for the quick reply!
That makes all the difference; I think I'm going to get it. I'm nervous though because I've read some reviews about bad bearings and flexing during tie down - but if I just replace the grease, and put down plywood & 2x4 base - that should solve both problems right? Is that what you mean by accessories?
You getting a second one despite the markup is a pretty good sign though lol and I've found harbor freight to be of great quality for a vast majority of my purchases so far, but It's first trip will be moving with across the country, so I need make sure it's solid!
The weight limit is 1200 and I think add a wooden cage will be nice.
Hey Bro im confused? Did you have to make an appointment or I can just go do all same day?
I had to make an appointment as there has no walk ins for this.
@@RANDOMFIXdid you call for the appointment or how did you make it?
Do you need DL class A Non-Commercial license or class C is sufficient?
Just a regular driver’s license
I have a boat trailer without a title what do I need to do to register it? please help
Sorry for the late reply! did you find a solution?
Did you get a regualar title after that
There are no title for trailers just the registration card.
LOL One thing you didn't show (trivial point but missing nonetheless) is where the license plate goes. :-)
Thank you for the feedback !
Random, a cubic meter of soil is about double the max weight of the trailer
Yes and it blow out the tire. And there was stones so imagine the fun of having to dump dirt out in the side of road and having to change the tire.
Was the Reg 343 the actual form used to register the trailer? I’ve been looking online and see reg 4017 referenced
Awesome, Thanks for the info, that's great!! _Randomfix
RANDOMFIX it was a question...
Same question. I see the PTI form which is REG 4017 and the REG 343 seems to be for all other vehicles. Can't figure it out either.
BooyaJoe! I just made an appointment and brought the trailer and MSO in with the HF receipt. They gave me a pile of papers to fill out and walked around the trailer. No issues registering it.
Hi Guys, I have the same question around REG 343 vs REG 4017: which one for a new self-assembled trailer? I plan to build a boat trailer from a kit. If REG 343, then what vehicle type do you select for Section 1? The only choices are Auto, Commercial, Motorcycle, Off Highway, and Trailer Coach. If REG 4017, then what to use for PTI Identification Plate Number for Section 1?
How did you get a vin on a homemade trailer?
Harbor freight unit. Came with title
is there an one time registration fee for this kinda trailer?
Yeah just a one time fee, keep your receipt from purchase so you do not have to pay tax twice.
I watched this video but you didn't explain if your title or ownership papers were signed by the manufacturer or the seller (,harbor freight). My kids bought a dump trailer for me online. When it came the paperwork wasn't signed. Because it was a gift I don't have the receipt either. I need to know who needs to sign the origin ownership paperwork? I am getting frustrated at this point. BTW I am dealing with Arizona DMV.
I am going thru this now as well. Did you find a solution?
Me too guys, literally same questions. I bought my trailer kit at Home Depot and my certificate of origin paperwork has the exact Ni Jiambo signature this gentleman has on his (same certificate in every detail) but my Virginia DMV turned me away telling me I have to get the signature from the seller? I guess Home Depot??
Sorry for the late reply! did you find a solution?
Did they insist on you having a spare tire?
Nope, that was just a personal decision. Not even new vehicles have spare tires requirement
dude the name of the video is "how to register trailer for title" but your going to the dmv with a title... video starts at 6:50 btw
I appreciate your constructive comments, thank you for the feedback!
You bought a trailer then waited a year to redgester it? Nice
Yes, in California you really don't really need to register but it's recommended. Lots of little trailers are registered.
@@RANDOMFIX hello, I bought one of these trailers. I’m confused as to what you mean that it is recommended to register it? Isn’t it mandatory? Unless you weren’t driving on public streets with it? Thanks!
Registration in California is not mandatory. But it only cost $25 dollars to register and it will increase the value And makes it a little more theft proof as lots of other little trailers are never registered.
I paid $75 at the dmv to get this registered in California. I’m not sure why it was though
The $75 include sales tax? Even though I paid sales tax at the harbor freight when I purchased I had to pay again as I didn't have a receipt to Prove it. Crazy California. What was the value of your trailer? And did you provide them with a receipt?
What was the cost? At DMV
Just 15 dollars if you paid the sales tax already when you purchased it from the store. I had lost the purchase receipt so I had to pay tax again.
How much did you pay at the DMV to register your trailer?
$31 total plus tax unless you have the receipt that you already paid said tax. Can I get your help? CHECK OUT MY OTHER CHANNEL and subscriber if you like it. THANK YOU ▶️ ruclips.net/channel/UC-wuhWwzZnFOWK-GMsP6Ejw MANY THANKS _Randomfix
RANDOMFIX got the same trailer bro .. I want to register it but I don’t have any paper work or title for it you think they will let me register it with out paperwork it has a vin I try to look it up but nothing came up in the system
it can be registered as a 'home built' trailer if it doesnt have a title.
Good to know. _Randomfix
red one how hard is that? I’m going to have to do it once this pandemic goes away and they open. Never done it and I need help step by step.
You could probably sell that thing for like 700 in Covid times now
I sold it for 550 before covid times but I think I could of gotten over a $1000 if I was not a hurry to clear space from my driveway.
Besides the VIN verification, did you do the rest online?
This was before Covid so I did everything in person
How much did it cost
Sorry Dlrty for the late reply! did you find a solution?
That trailer is small enough that it is legal to drive without lights. Not an opinion straight from Dmv.
Really, you drive the harbor freight trailer without hooking up the lights? Please tell me more, thank you.
@@RANDOMFIX I was moving from Oregon to So. CAL. I bought a truck that came with the Harbor Freight trailer. I put some rails around it very simular to yours and painted it black. I asked the guy I got it from why it had no lights. He said it didn't need them because of the size. Curiously I called DMV and they confirmed that fact. Also didn't need to register it. I asked even in Ca. They said yes. So anyways I slapped some reflective stickers from Harbor Freight on the side and back and was good to go. Oh it was blocking my license plate so I moved the plate to the back of my roof rack on top of my SUV with a battery powered bike light so as not to get pulled over not being able to see my license plate at night. Many police passed me at night and daytime. Never had any issues. Knowledge and research is key. Always check with DMV. HAPPY TRAILS
THE MVD TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T REGISTER IT BECAUSE THE TITLE(MANUFACTURER CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN) ISN'T SIGNED AND NOTORIZED!!???? I CALLED NORTHERN TOOL AND THEY'RE GOING TO SEND ME A SIGNED AND NOTORIZED BILL OF SALE BUT WTF!? THE M.C.O COMES FROM CHINA, NOT NORTHERN TOOL.. AND I DOUBT ANY OF THEM ARE SIGNED AND NOTORIZED, I DON'T SEE HOW IT COULD BE NOTORIZED, THEY'RE IN CHINA! HOW CAN THEY SELL THESE TRAILERS WITHOUT INCLUDING EVERYTHING YOU NEED YO REGISTER THEM!???? ANNOYING! 🤬
Wow, that’s nuts, thanks for sharing and I hope you get it done. What state are you registering the trailer in?
Please don’t put that shit on the road your gonna kill someone
