My husband's grandfather was at Gallipoli as an ANZAC. Most of his unit did not make it; he survived by hiding in a tree, and when it was safe he escaped the battle field and returned to base, injured with wounds to his face according to the records we found about him. You did a very good job on this.
no wars, people do not die! one has to live to die. not to fight. the world is enough for all of us. and the world is our playground. respect to your grandfather. Thank you.
It's a little thing, but I appreciate the reenactment note. I'm tired of channels pandering for views with the "Oh my god can you believe I just found this Celtic War Axe while filming on the beach?!" No. No I can't.
As an Australian, thank for you this remembrance on our special day. At 4:41, there is a symbol above "Brades Co" - this arrow was used 1700-1950 to mean "government property" by the british empire
Thank you for providing some great additional information. I thought it perhaps was for a specific branch, such as Army, or Royal Marines, etc. But come to think of it, most of my US Army gear was just marked US or USA. I think "government property Does make more sense!
Thank you for the information regarding the mark. I recently came across a nearly identical item. Your info regarding the arrow marking helped me identify what it was I had acquired.

The featuring of Gallipoli was very poignant. It is a calm place. The peace that was achieved by these fighting men will never be forgotten. Although the Dardenelles Campaign was unsuccessful, the sacrifice of the 250,000 allied troops is at rest on that beach. That trenching tool is a symbol of struggle. It was a style of combat that yielded the most casualties. This tool dug the only rampart of cover the allies possessed. I am very impressed with restoral by you, and the wood shop. I hope it finds a place of honor in your shop.
If there is a quintessential woodworker's paradise, it is the shop where your phenomenal crafting comes to life. That shop should be the photographic example in an encyclopedia. Your magnificent skills paired with the tools and shop equal none other than perfection. I wish I could give two or even three thumbs up. My hat is off to you good sir.
You and byoldhands are absolutely a perfect combo for an amazing restoration. Excellwnt job. I'm glad you got footage of byoldhands work also. Thank you.
Wonderful video of a wonderful collaboration! I hope you will consider donating the tool to a museum as a memorial to the Jocks, Bruces, and Mehmets that fought in that horrible campaign.
THAT is the way a restoration should be done! Honest-Proper Process-'As Found'-Loving care and Dedication. Considerably beyond nice. And the opening sequence is worthy a cinema trophy of the highest degree! Peace for you, dear friend to history and all others.
