I am a 51 year old black woman. The female friends I keep are all natural women. We're not the type to spend our hard-earned money on unnecessary plastic surgeries. I will admit that I now am noticing some subtle differences in my face. Like, the eyes seem to become a bit more hollow, and a few little lines start to appear. But that's life! I am blessed to have made it this far and be in good health! But I can't imagine what it must be like to live among the entertainers and see all of the surgeries they undergo to achieve endless youthfulness. After a while, it must be difficult to walk away from that type of lifestyle, especially when you have access to the best surgeons and lots of money. So, I don't blame Serena for making those changes to her face. Her peers more than likely do the same thing on a regular basis. But Venus still looks naturally lovely, so that's good.

I'd like to say no matter where you go be it the elites or the slums people are going to build you up or tear you down, so it's up to you to know yourself and and love yourself best. I've been around Blacks that insult my appearance and I've been around Blacks who did the same. I tell each person who says something negative about my appearance that they need to get their eyes checked because I am beautiful and exactly how God wanted me to be. Since I also know physical beauty will fade from, lack of care, the aging process and injuries the only thing I can do is honor my body and treat it with respect and care. In my 20's I had someone whom I thought was my best friend. We had known each other for about 10 yrs, and we were sharing a mirror as we were getting ready for an event. As I leaned in I noticed deep lines along the sides of her nose. I stopped and asked her if she had had plastic surgery on her nose? She wanted to lie but she saw that I would not be swayed, so she told the truth. She had received a nose job and if left permanent scarring along the sides of nose, because she heals on keloids. 25 yrs old and she has to go the rest of her life always wearing makeup to try to cover the scars. We must fight against the urge to believe outside validations they will destroy your self-esteem and promote covetousness and jealousy, which are sins that will take you away from God's love. God says we are enough and we don't need more than he has provided. Serena is a talented tennis player and could service as a wonderful role model for little girls through her natural gifts and abilities. Now, however little girls will be asking additional questions about her appearance, this takes away from the mission that God gave her-- to show girls everywhere that you can overcome life's obstacles through hard work and perseverance. So, I won't blame others around her I must ask her to look into her own heart and do the work, because she was always good enough!
