Made my day to come across this. I used to hang with the Sol-y-Mar crew at Watergate and Newquay in mid-1970s summers. Bez, Joe, Krutch, Twiggy, Blob, Peter Green, Paul Pendyk. Flat afternoons spent helping Bez mark 'O' level papers in the back of that tiny van or proof read the mag. Great summer jobs in the Bilbo shop or shitty ones kitchen portering in the Hasty Tasty or some down-at-heel hotel. Sleeping in a tent of draughty caravan up above Watergate. Formative times.

The 70's was Surfing's "Golden Age"
Such quieter and leisurely times. I remember surfing those days and beyond. In the water for 4 or 5 hours at a stretch and never thinking of having to check the phone.....

I was at and surfed in a contest in this video, the Eurosurf 1975, it was about 45 minutes north of biarritz at a beach, not sure where, we called it Hossegors, tho that town is further north. Also not sure if it was eurosurf 75, or a year two earlier. Sign up at the contest, no entry fee. Surfed a lot just outside the contest area. Living out of a 1959 Peugeot 403 that cost me 500 francs, about $150, had an overheating problem, so had to pull over and let it cool off after driving about 45 minutes. --Gerry Kantor

1970 Cronulla save-ing boards from hitting the rocks at South Cronulla were the days ,girls were laughed out of the water 😝😂
