      Wild ones are documented doing the same thing, fetching a dropped camera, etc, they are highly intelligent and inquisitive, probably more than dolphins.

    Opposing thumbs makes us believe we are the only intelligent species on the planet.
    Whales, beluga in particular, have a massive brain. They are highly intelligent, and have the full spectrum of emotions any human will have. They have complicated language, and for all we know they might be philosophizing, have spirituality and very complex thoughts.

    He had been in a Bay in Norway. They taught him to hunt and catch bait fish. They hadn't seen him in over 6 months. I hope its him and he is exploring his new tank( the oceans of the world).

      He is playing fetch because he was trained to do so and expects food. This is not natural behaviour for wild animals. It's pretty sad actually, he should be in a pod with other whales

      I’m sure they don’t think the rugby players will hurt the whale, they mean poachers, who kill whales.

      @@08shayna Its in Norway (most likely) and sure we hunt whales but if that is "Hvaldimir" then he have sanctuary status in Norway besides we do not hunt that kind of whales, only Minkwhale... maybe thats why they keep coming to our shores... like that Orca who also died here (not our fault) and now Hvaldimir who escaped Russia ...
      So whales do not get shot in Norway unless its part of the Minkwhale sort and during the huntingtime ...
      Whales are however very tasty meat I can assure you, and healthy... (well maybe not for the whale I assume).

    They release belugas that have been trained to interact with us. This one must have been previously taught to fetch and retrieve. Great to know it's thriving in it's natural habitat and still has a special bond with us.

    He knows exactly who to give the ball to because he can see the love the person gave their 3yr old rottweiler when they were 5yrs old....animals are amazing on picking up those small cues...and differentiating dog breeds just by the look on their owners faces

    Beluga whales are easily top 3 on my list for most adorable creatures on earth. Right next to grizzly cubs and black-footed cats
