    "The Mystery
Pan Am Flight 914 was a Douglas DC-4 with 57 passengers and six crew members that took off from a New York City airport headed for Miami, Florida. The date was July 2, 1955. The flight was scheduled to last a couple of hours, but it never arrived in Miami. Instead, it showed up, unannounced and invisible to Caracas radar, on March 9, 1985! Voicing his concerns to the tower, the pilot, after a textbook landing, taxied toward the gate, and ground handlers could see the faces of the screaming passengers pressed up against their windows, looking at a fantastic new world. The pilot, for his part, dropped a small calendar out the window before he made a hasty turn back to the runway, where he took off and disappeared as suddenly as he had arrived. And the calendar? Did he drop it accidentally? Or does it hold the secret to what happened? What exactly did it say?
We might never know. The governments of both Venezuela and the United States, the story goes, were said to have seized the calendar and the tower tapes and have refused to comment on the incident even once in the intervening decades. What really happened to Flight 914?
It is, for once, a mystery that has an answer.
    The Theories
The story has been going around the internet for years and is a hot forum topic with the UFO and time-traveling crowd.
The most popular theory is that the plane passed through some kind of time portal or wormhole, and instead of landing in Miami in 1955, it appeared on arrival in Venezuela 30 years later. One supposes it went back through the wormhole after it left Caracas. Exactly how wormholes or time portals work isn’t well understood, apparently.
    The Truth
As you’ve hopefully already figured out, the story of Pan Am Flight 914 was a total fabrication. But in this case, unlike with many urban legends, the source of that fabrication is known.
It dates to a story first published in 1985 by the Weekly World News, the onetime tabloid (now website), which specializes in crazy, concocted stories like this one. The paper ran the story again twice in the 1990s (with the plane’s arrival date changed to 1992 in those later stories).
The tale got a huge boost when RUclips channel Bright Side put out a video about the disappearance. The snappily produced video has gotten more than 15 million views, but it doesn’t get to the fact that it was a fake tabloid story until about two-thirds through. Bright Side introduced a number of “details” that were not in the first Weekly World News story, including the fact that the plane was visible on radar. In any case, the video reveals that the story is a hoax only well toward the end.
It’s likely that others capitalized on this real-life fake news to share the story without adding that one pertinent detail, the one about how everyone knew all along the whole thing was a fanciful fabrication. It all goes to show how fascinated people are by airplanes, even when the story is concocted to create a paranormal sensation."

The plane cannot make a turn unassisted by ground ops and has to be pushed back on to the runway by a tugg tractor if it was at the gate he ain’t going anywhere!!!!!! The would have held the plane there …. So my conclusion it did NOT happen …..

Now THAT is plausible. I had a flight delayed because the ''check engine light'' came on and they had to call a guy back to work that had just left work, so his commute times two and he kicked the thing and told them it was fine. 2 hour delay, was bad news, good news was my connecting flight held for our late flight, the bad news was our destination was fogged in, so we MIGHT fly past and land just as far beyond the destination as we were from the destination we left. Good news was if cleared enough while we were in flight so we landed OK at last.

You had me going there for a moment only because I had watched the TV show Manifest. Several years ago, there was a show called 'Manifest' with this same premise. A plane took off from some airport, experienced turbulence in the air due to a storm, then disappeared from radar. Forward 5 years. The plane safely lands at the original destination intact with no time passing for the onboard passengers, but 5 years later for their grieving families who thought they were dead & had gone on with their lives. The show continued for only 3 seasons with the people trying to figure out what & how it happened and having to deal with the messy changes in their lives due to the passengers' absence. I believe time travel is real & that this show was revealing the possibility to us masses. Did a flight have this happen? If it did, I think it would have been covered up. People in 1995 could not have handled such news. Maybe today, I don't know.

At 0:11 the video says "New York Airport" but it in 1955 it would have had to be La Guardia Airport or Idlewild Airport (which wasn't called Kennedy until after 1963). Interestingly in the Twilight Zone Episode about a plane caught in a time warp the writers of that story made a similar mistake. In that episode the plane returned most of the way back from the age of dinosaurs, not quite to the early 1960s but to only 1939 or 1940. Curiously the pilot recognized the 1939-40 World's Fair below but spoke to "La Guardia Tower." The problem is that depending when in 1939 or 1940 the Twilight Zone episode's flight supposedly took place, the airport near the World's Fair was either called North Beach Airport or starting on October 1, 1939 New York Municipal Airport. Later newspapers started to also call it La Guardia Field and in 1947 it became La Guardia Airport, due to New York Mayor La Guardia's role in modernizing it. But by then the 1939-40 World's Fair was gone.

At the 4:57 mark in the video, the pilot of the mystery aircraft is alleged to have said, "We were scheduled to land in Miami at 9:55 AM on July 2, 1955." Right there you know this story is a fabrication. No pilot would even consider the possibility that he had traveled through decades of time. It simply would not occur to the pilot to mention the date, much less the year. The pilot was allegedly aware he was not in Miami, but he would have simply said to ATC, "We were scheduled to land in Miami at 9:55 AM."

      4. Why did the pilot left Caracas when ATC told them it was 1992?

I mean, not for nothing... assuming this actually happened, which it didn't, but IF it did... who knows what the hell they might have experienced over those 37 years. Maybe they spent that time in some weird supernatural limbo landing at various random airports at various points in time over and over again and that's why they specified the exact year when they landed, then peaced out again when they were at the wrong location/time yet again.
In the context of this (fake) story, it doesn't seem that unusual.

The funniest part is that PanAm ceased operations in 1991.

    • @AC-ih7jc
      @AC-ih7jc 4 года назад +5

I was at Club Med the day Pan Am went belly up. Most of us had flown in on charters, but a few had flown in on...you guessed it...Pan Am. Back then, Club Med had their own travel agents on site to encourage guests to book their *next* vacation at a Club Med. That week they earned their pay, scrambling to get return flights for all those stranded Pan Am guests.
One Pan Am guest suffered the indignity of the airline losing his luggage before they shut down. The lost luggage voucher only paid for a set of swim trunks, a t-shirt, and some flip flops. Fortunately, Club Med was casual enough that you could get by with that. And since EVERYONE knew he was "the guy whose luggage Pan Am lost before shutting down" nobody gave him a hard time about not dressing up for dinner.
Incredibly, they did finally retrieve his luggage, and when he appeared in different clothes, everyone was congratulating him. He was our local celebrity.

@@_creighton Alright ya young pup, lemme paint ya a picture:
This wasn't Florida or the Bahamas or even Jamaica...this was Turks & Caicos in 1991. The island consisted of a tiny airport, a Club Med, a Marriott, a pig farm, and acres and acres of mosquito-breeding swamp. If you got injured enough to require more than basic first aid (as had happened to one of the Club Med associates while I was there) you had to be medi-vac'ed to a bigger island that actually had a clinic or a hospital. *THAT* was how remote we were.
And before you Google Earth the location and say how built up it is now, this was back in 1991. Thirty years ago, it was positively rural.
Your shopping choices were limited to the gift shops of the two resorts...and their prices sure as sh-t reflected that. Apparel-wise, you couldn't get more than t-shirts, swimsuits, flip flops and maybe hats. And insect repellent? THAT was the big ticket item...at a resort that had nightly sprayings of DDT. That stuff sold out fast, even at their insane black market level prices.
So yeah, there wasn't much apparel to choose from, and what there was was overpriced as fck. He could have come close to doubling the price of his vacation if he whipped out his credit card...assuming they would even take plastic. Remember, these were the days when Club Med forced you to pay for everything with their g-dd-mned beads.
      The antidote to civilization, indeed.
But to their credit, the food was beyond superb...whether you wanted to subsist on burgers and hot dogs or sample sushi and frogs' legs (and yes, they DO taste like chicken). Absolutely no complaints there.

So Flight 914 had mechanical issues that also affected comms, perhaps due to lightning (1955, no satellite imagery). They lost power, dropped below radar, and the pilot attempted to ditch in the ocean. The seas were rough, and the plane sank quickly. The few who escaped the plane before it sank did not survive long in the open ocean. Everyone drowned. The plane is at the bottom of the ocean with all its contents intact, thus no debris.
In 1992, Flight 914 was still on the bottom of the ocean. End of story.
