★ 🇨🇭Cab ride Wil - Kloten - Regensdorf - Basel, Switzerland [Spring 2019]

- Today we're travelling with an empty tank train from Wil to Basel RB (marshalling yard) with an Re 482 locomotive belonging to SBB Cargo. The train originally was intended to reach Germany via Singen, however due to construction work in the area of Schaffhausen, it was rerouted via Basel.
The section of track following Sirnach is special in that it's one of a few remaining double tracked sections on the SBB network with signalling only for the left track. This means if trains use the right track, they also use the signals from the left. Due to this, trains can't be driven parallel to each other as on many other parts of the Swiss network. These signals will no doubt be replaced in the near future, or even entirely done away with as ETCS starts replacing the current signalling system. Enjoy the signals while you can!

I live in the southern US. It is nice here and with plenty of unfettered open spaces.
I admit, however, we have NOTHING as beautiful as these cities and fields. I declare this one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
Thank you, my Swiss friends.
There is definitely something special about Switzerland. I have spent a lot of time in the southern US though and also really liked it.
Thanks for your comment.

Another great cab ride!
Many thanks =)
I totally enjoy these trips. Fantastic scenery. Interesting infrastructure compared to what we do locally. Keep making
Very beautiful movie, never stop buddy Respect
Very nice dear friend. 👍
Bravo.
Congratulations on making this video
Hello from Timisoara all the best
There's kind of a Darth Vader breathing apparatus sound going on at various times in this video. Was it recorded on May the 4th?
Are you referring to the sound of the wheel flanges on the rails or the current converters?
@@lorirocks777 No idea what it is. Do you?
I'm not too familiar with star wars, but they are the 2 dominant sounds

Hi,
The film as usual - excellent👍🏼👌🏼
Two questions: what is the maximum slope of driveways around 1:52 - 1:55 and the second, which means frequently heard in the locomotive, the message "sifa" (I write from my ear)? 🤔
SiFa is the "dead man" safety device. If they driver doesn't react for a certain number of seconds, the train will go into emergency braking. The spoken message is a reminder time is running out since the last driver input.
Hello.
The slope after Mumpf is 12‰. The slopes are declared using the up and down white arrow signs with the slope value and number of meters.
Sifa is the locomotive checking if the driver is still there. The driver has to react =)
Sifa is the code for Sicherheitsfahrschaltung 😉
Smooth run. Is the new Bozberg tunnel intended to provide passing places for the Gotthard and BLS freights on the Brugg to Basel section? There about 4 other places to pass.
That light at Frick is like threading the eye of a needle through the overhead wire supports to see the aspect light.
Can the SNCF Duplex be routed by this route or via Olten Ost dependent on conditions?
What are the classifications for the wagons seen in sidings near all track maintenance works, 2-axle long van with covered end platforms each end, rectangular windows, large side doors on some, usually but not always covered in graffiti. Possibly a mess, tool, comfort, shelter van. Are these a specific specification as made or does each depot customise an old coach or van? Good condition one at entry to Wettingen, poor condition one between Kloten and Kloten Balsberg (just for reference).
The new Bözberg tunnel is for the "4 meter corridor", which allows taller containers to be transported. The old tunnel will be used as a service tunnel without tracks.
The wagons you're referring to usually start with "Xs 40" and seem to have originated with older F2 or F3 era wagons.
I have a feeling that there are a few empty TGVs that travel via Bözberg on a daily basis.
What are the yellow flowers in the fields you pass by around 1:00:00?
A bit of a strange name, Rapeseed
Does Switzerland have a standard stay left or right. I know Germany is all set right and OZ is left.

Nice video. Clear image. Did you get a new camera? What type is it?
Gopro 7, the one I normally use for rear facing shots
@@lorirocks777 Thanks, does a good job.
Just curious why I never see a plane flying over or people outside besides workers?
It's all an animation. Just kidding =)
Sweet. Two Swiss cab view rides in two days (you and Railway Emotions). I wonder if you two have ever passed each other and not known it?
It seems really odd that when the wrong track has to be used drivers must also obey the signals for the normal track. In Australia (though it does depend on the state) a wrong-line move would be operated using special procedures, and the signals for the normal track would be disregarded. We've got very little bidirectional working here, and there's been a trend in Victoria to remove it as the railway operating companies consider it too complex to use (and we run half as many trains as you do!)
If this train were to go via Schaffhausen and Singen, which route might it have taken? The only route I can think of that would get you from Wil to Schaffhausen without reversing is from Winterthur to Bülach, though reversing in Winterthur and heading north to Neuhausen would possibly be quicker. There's also Wil - Weinfelden - Konstanz - Singen but that doesn't appear to be accessible from the sidings in Wil.
Thanks for your comment.
Do you work for the railways in Aus? I actually grew up on the Gold Coast and would love to know more about railways over there.
Yep, I think a right after Winterthur to Bülach would've been the route.
@@lorirocks777 I don't, but I'd like to get in to the planning / signalling / network optimisation side of things. Railways in Switzerland are run much better than they are here, and I'd like to try to introduce aspects of that here. Australian railway practices are very conservative, and very much based on inefficient British and American concepts.
The Gold Coast has a tram / light rail line now, and they're in the process of extending it to the NSW border. Construction hasn't started yet as the State and Federal governments are arguing about who is going to pay for it (we've currently got a conservative Federal government, and they are opposed to spending money on rail transport instead of roads).
Very good video :)
Great video, but why doesn't the driver sound a warning when approaching railway workers?
Each country has their respective laws. In switzerland, workers have a warning system, consisting of either an electronic or blown siren, sometimes accompanied by lights. Electronic systems are automatic. Warning workers also stand a given distance from a worksite to alarm workers. If no contact can be made, they pull out a red flag, which is a sign for the driver to apply the emergency brakes.
Red lights are also often set up in case of emergencies.
Furthermore, workers are required to make eye contact with drivers and wave, to indicate they've seen the train. Failure to do this might be grounds for sounding a warning.
@@lorirocks777 Thanks for your comprehensive explanation!
