This is awesome, I also have a 125 I'm about to set up a a planted and possibly native tank. I really like those darters and shiners. I'm also looking at red belly daces.
Dear Jake: Rainbow shiners (Notropis chrosomus) make a great addition to your, North American, native, species tank. The rainbow shiner was originally endemic to the Mobile River system, where it can be found in small, clear rivers of drainage areas of the Alabama, Coosa, and Black Warrior rivers in particular. Now it also appears in some rivers in Tennessee and is a popular pet fish for aquariums and ponds. So, surprisingly, it may inhabit waters near where I live in Kentucky. Thank you for this, interesting update of your, terrific set-up. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar
I'm super happy with these fish! I knew they went as far north as Tennessee, but I had no idea they possibly went as far as Kentucky. They you for your knowledgeable comment!
Love the rainbow shiners ! I have two different types. Have a short video of the type 2 in breeding colors. Very beautiful fish that should get more attention in the hobby. Can't wait to see your plans for the other tanks. Thanks... 🌱🐠✌🏼️
I kept some of these for a while. Beautiful fish. Yellowfin shiners and southern red belly dace are good tank mates. My favorite shiner species would have to be the steelcolor shiners. If you’re looking for an individual fish, check out northern studfish.
Indeed I know I'm late to this vedio, but I have them I'd a small river by my home, and they tend to shol in huge groups there. They also were hanging around some either central or large scale stone rollers. I have vedio of them and they were in full breeding colors! Amazing find if I do say so myself. 😁 I really wish to add them to my tanks at some point.
They are nice fish because of their preference for cool water. What are the specific names of the fish on the bottom? They looked like 2 different ones colorwise. It's a very nice tank.
Let me know what you think! Are there any other cool North American native fish I should look up?

I've seen these fish at a lfs recently, very cool fish that seem to be picking up in the trade. Nice choice!
Thank you! I'm very happy with them so far!
We have them in central Florida in freshwater spring streams. I just put some in my 20 long. Wanted to see what other people are doing

Thank you!! The fish on the bottom on the bottom are tow rainbow darters and one green sided darter
Awesome native tank💦
Thank you 🙂
Nice video
Thank you!
Great video. I'm interested in setting up a native paludarium with native species from North eastern US.
not shrimp compatible? BUMMER :/
Where can I get some
I live near these fish. Wanting to collect them.
Sculpiuns are really cool fish too, but they shouldn't be kept with fish that they can eat. Daces, Shiners, and Chubs are all small NA fish
Chubs get a foot long!
Madtom Catfish!!!!!!!!!
