    Just ordered mine! I was looking for a laptop for casual use. Web browsing, streaming, emails... But also somthing to learn CAD/CAM on. The P43s seem like the perfect balance of performance and price. While still having a slim design compared to some of the other workstations. Your video helped me make up my mind so thankyou 👍👍

    Thanks! Excellent review without getting too technical. My last two laptops were both Thinkpads and I'm looking at the P43s for my next machine. Btw, I have a 10 yr. old T410 that is still going strong, replaced the hard drive with an SSD and it performs better than when it was new. Also have a T440p that is still working like new. The P43s will probably be my next laptop, since the T490 doesn't come with dedicated graphics.

    As you choose the WQHD display for purpose, what is your impression over the FHD displays you also know from the T-series?
    How about color accuracy, edge bleeding, contrast, delta e a.s.o....
    Would be great to read your opinion as I am considering it to use it for image editing with Lightroom, Capture One.
    Do you think it is capable for this kind of Tasks and how about 4k video rendering?
    Otherwise I consider the P53 but the P43s form factor is so nice...

    Hi Bsian, great video. I just got my P43s today. love the keyboard, can't complain about the ports, enough for me, I got a MBP 2017 BTW... I use it for CAD. Thinking about upgrading the SSD when I could get 1TB on special.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Jason, thanks for the feedback! I think the P43s will be a massive improvement in speedwise for CAD than the MBP. Coming from a MBP user myself the keyboard on the Lenovos are fantastic, way way better than the butterfly keys from the MBP also the ports not having to always have dongles with you all the time. I tell my clients to buy a large microSD card to slot it into the computer to put their data they don't use often there and then have the SSD reserve for your current working files.

    I am wondering, why can't I find any other reviews of this laptop? Is it so low volume? A little surprising since it has a better price than T490 AND has a dGpu..

At first when released this was more expensive than the T490 but Lenovo has quickly agressively made the P43s one very well priced laptop compare to the T490 now especially when it holds a more better GPU for CAD. Of all things, it's the 1440p display with 500 nits brightness that makes this thing really stand out. 1440p is an ideal resolution for this size of display, essentially "retina" resolution and without the scaling issues that notebooks with 4K displays have running Windows 10. I've checked the upcoming ThinkPads and none of them feature bright displays with this ideal resolution. Even all these months later I'm seriously considering buying one of these things.

    It was great. What parts of the machine can be upgraded in future? CAD is my preferenceal app to work with. Do you think it can handle it with ease? Thanks

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  5 лет назад +4

      Hi Ali Adelzadeh, welcome to my videos. Most parts are serviceable and upgradable, the things that can't be upgraded and required to be purchased at the start is the soldered Ram, you get a choice of 8GB or 16GB RAM, I can confirm there is slot for Ram upgrades that allow it for a further 32GB. As for the hard drive it is M.2 and only one slot for that so you can replace the hard drive for larger one but can't get a second one in there. Other two things required to be purchased at the start as its not upgradable path is the uSim and smartcard slots as its part of the frame.
      I haven't really used CAD software before but the Quadro P520 should be able to handle it as it isn't a gaming GPU and more for rendering things like CAD and 3D models. I hope that helps your question =).

    I just purchased mine and use it for travel video editing but I'm wondering if I should have purchased the X1 carbon 6. My p43s gets hot but I wonder how it compares to the carbon 6. I ended up 1TBSSD, 16GB and 300 nits monitor

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 года назад +4

      You will find the X1 Carbon gen6 heats up more than the P43s. Once the Carbon gen6 gets going for encoding or rendering the fan is very high and also gets way hotter than the P43s. Lenovo made a lot of improvement in thermals on gen 7 of the x1 carbon. As for X1 carbon vs P43s for video editing I think you made a great choice and would have done the same myself as the P43s as the discrete graphics will aid you and also if you find you starting to struggle in the larger size projects you can increase the RAM in the P43s. The only thing I think the X1 Carbon has going for it for your needs is the pure weight, you can't not love how crazy light the X1 carbon is. Be assure in my opinion I think you made a wise and great choice for the P43s.

      Hi David Tian, welcome to my videos. What would you be using the laptop for? Atm I think the P43s is a great buy compare to the T490 because it comes at better price point and includes a discrete graphics chip. Thank you for your awesome video. I am in the market for a new laptop. I had bought the newest X1 but hated it for several reasons-- small track pad, washed out colors, and poor battery life. I currently have a T440s but it is 6 years old but performs well. With Windows 7 support ending, I may need to upgrade my laptop soon as I am unsure if it can handle Windows 10 Pro by itself and I need to upgrade battery anyway. Long story short, I am trying to decide between T490s and P43s. The T490s seems ideal because it is light weight and has essentially everything that P43s has but with recent coupon codes P43s is much cheaper ~$500. My question is which is the most ideal for me. I only use my laptop for light photo editing, MS Office, and internet browsing. Assuming specs between T490s and P43s are the same, what is your opinion? Also, are colors washed out in both or are they better if I go with the higher end screen (14.0" WQHD (2560x1440), IPS, 500nits, No touch, IR-Camera, Mic, WWAN, Black)? Thank you.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 года назад

      Hi John L, there are three major differences between the T490s and the P43s. One is of course the weight which you pointed out the T490s will be lighter by 100-200g than the P43s but the P43s has a discrete graphics Quadro P520 where as the T490s uses just the integrated Intel graphics. Third is max RAM ability T490S (32GB) and P43s (48GB). Breaking down to your needs you mention photo editing is the one that will demand the most. You don't really need discrete graphics for light editing but is nice to have, RAM wise usually 16GB is enough for photos until you get the crazy large edits. So really it comes down to price and weight for you. If you could get the P43s $500 cheaper than T490s I would go with that unless you do a lot of travelling and then weight is a more major factor. The screen between the two are very similar and if you got the cash I would go with the WQHD for better colour gamut (100% Adobe) than the FHD (72% Adobe) screen. I hope that helps with your decision.

    • @johnl9119
      @johnl9119 4 года назад

      @@BsianTech Thank you for taking the time to respond. When I had the X1 for 2 weeks, the colors were washed out. White appeared yellow. I could compare because I have a t440s and I felt the screen was better than the X1. I don't want to make the mistake of buying a laptop with a display that has washed out colors. Additionally with me being a medical student, I am around florescent lights constantly and the glare will be a detriment. So that's why I wanted your opinion. Is there a glare deflector screen? I also looked at the Macbook Air and Pro. I hate the new Pro keyboard as it is difficult to type. I am a fan of the Air but hate the fact that it lacks ports. Weight is not an issue as my current t440s weights more than all the laptops that I listed and I do just fine with its portability. I also considered the t490. But it appears that there is no perfect laptop on the market these days.

I just want this laptop or the T480 to write papers, surf the internet, for when I travel abroad to save videos and pictures, and for its rugged design to be able to withstand bumps, dust, water splashes. I know that the T480 you can also upgrade the RAM and SSD, and have a spare battery I also believe it has the WQHD and FHD display. But does the T480 come with an option to choose a different graphics card rather than an integrated one what would you recommend?

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 года назад +1

      Hi Paulo Ramirez, welcome to my videos. For your needs its pretty easy one and purely comes down to which you can get cheaper. Speed isn't going to be a major factor I think between the two for your application. Both computers you can upgrade the RAM and SSD but the T480 has advantage of having the battery easily removable without opening the laptop where as the P43s you need to remove the backcover. As for discrete graphics the T480 can be spec up with a Geforce MX150. In terms of gaming if you might do some then I believe the Geforce MX150 will be slightly faster than the Quadro P520 house in the P43s. I hope this helps.

Looks like the display you had was unlucky faulty one, not common for the number of X1s I received here. • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Patrick Farrell, welcome to my videos. First off I'm not in anyway a salesperson or rep for Lenovo but I might sounds a little from the reply. The Lenovo E480 does look like a great laptop too the E and P series are targeted at two very different markets. The E480 is targeted for consumers who want a bit more power than the standard laptop with the discrete graphics added in there, as for the P43s it is targeted at CAD and engineering consumers who require even more grunt. Why I say that is first off is the graphics the Quadro range isn't really to compare to the RX 500 range it would be competing with the RX Vega range in AMD and you will see there is a bit of a price hike from the RX500 to the RX Vega. The other two things that makes the P series a little more is that the RAM can be max out at 48GB compare to 32GB on the E480, designers are always after as much Ram they can fit in their machines and third even though the E480 can house a second hard drive it can only max out it's PCIe M.2 slot at 512GB on the E480 where as its 1TB for the P43s. As insane as the price upgrade from 512GB to 1TB is those professionals in the designer field will pay for more for quicker storage. Don't get me wrong the E480 is fantastic laptop but I'm hoping the points I made out could uncover some reason for the higher price these manufactures ask for in particular models.

      Hi Francis Gil Crabajales, both the P53s and P43s are the budget version of the P series. The P43s is 14" and P53s is 15". Both will be very similar for autocad what would feel different are three things besides the screen size difference. First is weight the P53s is a little over 250g heavier then the P43s. Second is that P53s can be configured with a UHD (4k) screen which I think the higher resolution is beneficial for CAD. Third is the keyboard, the P53s has a number pad in the keyboard, which would make life again a little easier.

    Hi i am an engineering student and i am looking for a laptop for autocad and solidworks. Since i am just a student i am wondering if this graphics card will be enough for my tasks or do i need something with more power. Also i am wondering if the legion Y540 with gtx 1660ti will be better option for my tasks.

    • @BsianTech

      Hi
      Poparcheto 23 , welcome to my videos. This P43s was designed for CAD work in mind. At it's price point its very decent. If you comparing the Lenovo Legion Y540 even with the GTX1660ti you will find that was designed more for gaming but it will do fine in CAD work as well and probably outperform the P43s easily. Just be mindful the P43s is 14" laptop and the Y540 is 17" laptop. Just make sure you get 16GB RAM which is the max for the Y540 it should be enough for student CAD assignments. When you start working professionally the extra RAM which the P43s can offer starts assisting in the larger projects files and the Quadro card for the error correction and stability. As a student the Y540 seems to be better choice if you after pure performance which you can also use as gaming. Hope that helps.

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 года назад +1

      Hi Christian Hanner, Lenovo P43s vs T490. This would seriously be which has better price at the time. The only different between the two is the discrete graphics, the P43s has Quadro P520 and T490 if you option in the Geforce MX250, everything else is practically the same. As a photographer the difference between Geforce and Quadro you will barely see much if not at all. Both laptops can be speced up the same. So in seriousness it's all down to which is cheaper.

    If no, what laptop do you suggest for around 1300 euro?

    • @BsianTech
      @BsianTech  4 года назад +2

      Hi BariB, welcome to my videos. As the pricing is different here in Australia you have to check out the pricing to these other laptops in your country. Here are the other laptops I would also look into which is about CAD use. I do say the Lenovo P43s was designed for CAD use in mind and has been priced pretty well it might not be the quickest out there. If you on a tighter budget have a look at the Lenovo T495 as it has a very high clock speed CPU and decent GPU for CAD but draw back is its only max 16GB so if you do very complex designs you want more RAM but as a student I think it should be okay. The other three computers I would also look into which would be about the P43s pricing for CAD work is the Dell Precision 3541 (this one will be quicker than the P43s), the Dell new XPS15 (this will be a 15" can be over budget) and the Lenovo X1 Extreme again this one is 15" and higher in price. I hope that helps you. What you are after for CAD work as a student is a highest clock speed CPU you can budget in for, something with discrete graphics the higher the better of course, if its Geforce vs Quadro go with Geforce as a student if you could get quicker clock speed on the CPU. The fastest clock speed CPU is your greatest asset for CAD as student. Professionally you start to move to the Xeons and Quadro for the stablity. I hope that helps your hunt.
