Quin piece of advice. You will have to fight the imprisoned again (The shark thing) use one of the airlifts to get on top of its head to smack the stone that comes out of it makes a fight much easier and goes by a lot quicker. Hint use groose
I think the Fi controversy is more a storytellers principle: Exposition. When we ask for it or the question regarding the topic pops up mid-interaction we welcome it, but providing explanation without that, is a answer to a question no one asked for. Handing out solutions to a puzzle that one has not even had the chance to attempt takes away the joy of solving it. If you ask for the hints, they will absolutely be more than welcome, and no one is above asking for a hand every now and then (on their request).
If you target an enemy and call Fi while targeting, she'll give a breakdown of how to fight the enemy by hinting at what is and isn't effective towards them. It's helpful if you want to learn alternative and easier ways to fight enemies that some people might not think to try. Midna can also do something similar in TP if you do the same thing.
Don't forget to check back with lots of people in Skyloft for Sidequests! If they keep talking about wishing they had something, or that someone would do something for them, that's probably a side quest... and the one with the missing girl is the important one that'll get you started.
A little tip for the fight against The Imprisoned (giant shark boy), you don't have to slice his toes, you can just jump onto his head from above. It makes the fight a lot faster.
