    I am a pool contractor. It is the pool contractors job to call for a complete check of all underground utilities before they dig. In Arizona we call it "Blue Stake". They send all of the utility companies out to check. So, yes it is their job to check for that. However, When they DO find any underground utilities THEN it is the homeowners responsibility to re-route the pipes OR move the location of the pool. Depending on your State laws, If they started the dig and hit the pipe then they have some responsibility.
    WAIT!...Norma not trying to stress you out but where is your plumbing? All of the pipes and equipment are supposed to go in BEFORE the steel. I see by the date on your video that you already have that nightmare fixed?
    Typically it is the homeowners responsibility to fix any damage caused by the excavation or construction process UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE (UNO) on the contract. Most pool contracts state that damage to sidewalks, grass, irrigation, landscaping, etc. are the responsibility of the homeowner unless the contractor agrees to do those repairs. Our company always puts the gate/walls back up as soon as possible which is usually after excavation. This is mainly for the safety of the family and the neighbors as it is a very dangerous place for a while.
    A good pool company will not allow a homeowner to do their own decking. We can do the coping around the pool and let you do the other decking but never the decking that sits right on the bond beam of the pool. Way too much liability and if you do that yourself you will not have any warranty for the decking or the pool tile and maybe other things like water features. Be careful because it does not take much to void a lot of your warranties. For example, I always have home owners say "My brother is an electrician and he can wire this up for half price" Your brother will also void your equipment warranty if he is not an installer certified to do the work by the pool equipment company. PLEASE, do not build your own pool! (BYOP).

      in my state (SC) - it's the LAW. Even for the homeowner.....whatever utility hit, with out a locater service is your bill. AND they FIX it, NOT the person who broke it....and you get the bill.

    Why wouldnt they mark the lines before they started digging? Sounds like either they were cutting corners or diggers didnt stop the process knowing the yard wasnt marked.

    Oh no, that’s terrible. I am sorry that you are going through that.
    I made that same mistake before and went with the cheaper guy. Trust me, If it’s cheaper than the other contractors, there is a reason for that.
    I would rather pay extra and have the professionals take care of it.
    I am currently building a new construction home in Elyson and I am planning on building a pool when it’s ready. Thanks for the tips!

    I agree the contractor is support to call before they dig. But you talked about saving money. Those headaches that you are facing are what your general contractor is supposed to do. They organize the contractors and make things run smoothy between the contractors and the owner. That is what you get for saving a few thousand dollars.

    Usually if you feel like you can’t trust your contractor the best thing to do is to cut ties and move on to a different contractor you can trust. That might come at a cost in terms of money, time and stress level but in the long run it might help you avoid any more headaches with this contractor.

    Oooo I would be livid, it should be a breach of contract if he doesn’t correct it. It’s already stressful enough, but coming short on measurements and the BS gas line repair and trying to conceal it, hell no.

  • @michellen3727
    @michellen3727 3 года назад +2

    Wow, that is so stressful! 😬You had mentioned that you are employing other contractors for other parts of the job, but I’m wondering if you will still feel it was a great decision once the jobs are all completed by the trades because I think if you went with the pool company for everything, while it would’ve been more 💰 you might’ve seen faster progress like your friend. I hope you don’t run into issues with the other tradesmen as the journey progresses. Sometimes it’s worth the extra 💵 to not have all the stress. And the stress with your neighbors.

    • @normadoes
      @normadoes  3 года назад

      Hi Michelle, this could of been a smooth process if the pool contractor would of never tried scamming us by cutting the dimensions short. Makes you think how many others he has done this to?!. Luckily we caught in early stages. After pool is complete, I feel confident these other contractors we've hired will get the job done the right way. Paying the extra money for the pool contractor to get everything done can be less stressful, yes I agree. I don't regret it doing it this way just yet lol... let's hope not to run into more issues. :)

      You won’t see it be up faster in “Covid “ days. Contractors use it as an excuse for any delay . The pool companies are booming at the moment because everyone is wanting a pool since they are stuck at home due to covid.

  • @binki611
    @binki611 2 года назад

    Contractors are licensed and bonded. By being your own GC you removed one layer of protection and warranty. Make sure you get every contractor and sub license number and bond company. You need to contact the bond company and get the procedure to file a claim.
    For any real estate transaction, it needs to be in writing. Word of mouth is not valid.
    Now that we have that out of they way, every agreement going forward needs to be in writing. Size, materials, rough schedules. Of course rain and change orders extend the dates. If you are the GC then you need to get all of this before moving forward.
    Good luck with the project.

    were these guys licensed swimming pool contractors ??? I am shocked they DIDN't call "locate" services first. it's law # 1 (where I am anyways) and #2 it's in their own best interest to have it done. They have to be faking their experience or something. As for the pool dimensions -- that's not an uncommon thing unfortunately. Often there is a longest point and widest point and they use that as the measurement. A better measurement is the surface area of the pool you are getting....along with the LxW. A detailed scaled drawing shoule have also been a part of your package....kinda like a house -- a "blueprint" I could go on....but i feel for you.
