  • Henry Staunton, the former Post Office chair, has told MPs he is the victim of a ‘smear campaign’ by the government because he stood up for the victims of the Horizon IT scandal.

Staunton was dismissed last month by the business secretary, Kemi Badenoch, who said bullying accusations had been made against him.
Badenoch sacked Staunton late last month, initially said they ‘parted ways with mutual consent’. Staunton fought back in an interview with the Sunday Times, claiming Badenoch had told him that ‘someone’s got to take the rap’ for the scandal, while Badenoch in a statement in the Commons described his interview as a ‘blatant attempt to seek revenge’.

The victims are those whose entire lives were ruined by the lies and cover ups!

You understand that more than one person can be a victim right? He didn't claim to be worse off or to be "the real victim" or any other trope.
Now if you think he was being smeared or having the truth told is your choice

He's a Victim ? The Arrogance Of This Man is Disgusting, He Was Not Falsely Accused Of Stealing , He Was Not Put In Jail, He Did Not Lose His Job or Means Of Income. And He Claims He Is a Victim Of a Smear Campaign... Has He No Shame ?

No, he was brought in at the last minute to take the blame. Instead, he's nailed those causing the delay, the Treasury. That was tightly focused until the Government trashed him, now he's blown it wide open with documents, there's two layers here, what was formal and what was informal, and the latter's sufficiently documented to finish Badenough off. At this distance from the election, I don't like to think where this goes. Right now, they're wargaming the possibilities because the script's exhausted, the wheels have come off, and they're out of ideas.

He was only in charge for around a year before being fired, his firing was because he came heavily down on the side of the people who lost their jobs and were put in jail. He tried to get compensation paid out as well as attempting to fire those responsible and bring in reforms to stop this ever happening again.
He was fired for trying to do the right thing. When he made clear the inner goings on of the post office they started to smear him, saying he engaged in conduct unbecoming of a CEO, which tells you - considering the above - where their priorities lie.

@@cavanwatts4938 He was actually the Chairman, he's just forced an admission from the Post Office the CEO was also under investigation, which Kemi Badenough didn't mention, dropping her deep in it.

He was in the job a little over a year. Unless Bad Enoch is telling the truth (which would be out of character), he was trying to get the compensation paid. He felt strongly enough to put himself on the line, when he could have just faded away and lived quietly on his millions as a pensioner. Funny sort of villain…
