- The New - Live in KCRW studios 2003
I wish I could live free
I hope it's not beyond me
Settling down, it takes time
One day we'll live together
And life will be better
I have it here, yeah, in my mind
Baby, know someday you'll slow
And lately, my heart's been breaking
I gave a lot to you
I take a lot from you too
You slave a lot from me
Guess you could say I gave you my edge
I can't pretend
I need to defend
Some part of me from you
I know I've spent some time oh lying
You're looking alright tonight
I think we should go - Видеоклипы
Is God playing the bass?
I miss Carlos on bass so much. But, I'm glad he's happier now.
YES
Yes
God is name Carlos D
Yes, it is.
Anyone 2024?
Me
Me 👊🎸⭐️💥👌

Carlos was something else. His name should definitely be brought up when talking greatest bassists of all time.
Hard disagree, Carlos have great and creative basslines but he isnt a Les Claypool or a Victor Wooden.
@@alex11v3 he is goated idk what u talking about
@@alex11v3 yes people can make complex difficult and fast basslines but few compare to the composition of carlos d's basslines.
@@blunderless I prefer Colin Greenwood(Radiohead) and Tina(Talking Heads) melodic basslines.
@@alex11v3 I do believe that Carlos perfected the Peter Hook formula, using a higher pitched sound, an agressive picking technique when needed but also adding a lot more nuance to the playing. The use of octaves, alternate picking and complex rythmic lines make him one of the most unique sounding bass players of the whole post punk revival era
Regular bassist; we play one note per measure.
Carlos; I'll play ten.
One of the tightest rhythm sections ever. The way Carlos and Sam played off eachother was other worldly.
This song is a masterpiece, I wonder how they could create such a genius composition
This album*
@@P36dqiit including all the b sides!! Every single b side is just as good as every song on the album
Good drugs.
Ya sé, los amo 😍💖
I have no idea but it's definitely genius..
YOU'RE LOOKING ALRIGHT TONIGHT
I THINK WE SHOULD GO
I've been an Interpol fan since day 2 and I want to say; the last half of 'The New' reminds me of 'Catholic Block' and 'White Cross' by Sonic Youth.
I guess that is the NY connection.
Thanks for the recommendations 🤙🏾😊
I'm so glad to see the Carlos love here. His bass playing is exceptional.
I used to play my little girl this when she was tiny to get her to sleep. She's nearly 18 and I still can't listen to it without crying 😭😍
You wanted her to get emo?
Now she's a emotionally unstable person and will need therapy someday
Nah she's turned out just fine. She loves great music
Wow! That great! 💕
LOL I love this comment as I have little girls too who are learning to rock. But did you ever consider that bedtime wasn't the best opportunity for bass practice? 😉
It's insane how Carlos dictates the rhythm along the performance, and allows the group to absorb that and then develop their sound over it. Trully amazing
Wow. That's such a good look into Carlos' playing. I love a lot of bass tracks, but Carlos is just on a different level. His use of chords is spare but so effective, and his disco stuff is just clean when put over stiff reverb guitar. Maybe the only bassist where the extra bass action is a fill, but also key to the song. It pushed the song forward. Thanks for this video, and thanks for getting me a little nostalgic.
Blue McDaniel when I first found this band years ago, it was Carlos style I loved, I swear, I changed my full style, not the same without him
Daniel wrote the beginning of the bassline for The New
Carlos D is a monster
that lead bass was classic Interpol's secret weapon
Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed Interpol's albums but the two with Carlos on bass are the best. IMO.
Carlos Dengler Master of masters.
That's arguable.
@@evertdelarge4851 no its not.
Greatest band ever, I feel bad for those who aren't aware of this
We are the lucky individuals who hold this dear to our hearts.
@@Thereisnodelay well put 👏
They’re in my top 6 bands of all time ❤
Here we see the best bass guitarist in the world at work... don't forget him: Carlos Dengler, from Interpol.
this song is Carlos D.
I still can't believe that Carlos D didnt like playing bass. Just two albums of genius and influenced many
He recorded 4 albums with Interpol though
@@pollitorsiones Yeah, but calling Our Love to Admire and the self-titled genius is a bit of a stretch
@@TheDrunkSpartan1337 The bass lines in those albums are still great though
@@TheDrunkSpartan1337 our love to admire is an amazing and solid album. I mean, it has "rest my chemistry"
Carlos’ tone and precision was impeccable
I can't believe this was 20 years ago. These guys came out of nowhere like The Strokes and I was in music heaven. I used to drive around with my little daughter and we'd listen to this album and Is This It by The Strokes and jam out 😂😂. She's 24 now and she still loves them.
For a guy who hated playing bass, Carlos was a savant at it.
0:01 - 2:56 one character of Carlos
2:57 - 4:03 second character of Carlos D
4:04 now he's mixing them both
Psycho bassline - That's true INTERPOL !
Absolutely. They were never the same without him. Never even close. He infused them with an edge that’s sorely lacking since he left. But I get it too. He hated playing the bass and they hated him being in the band. It’s sad. But we’ll always have those first two albums. And the third isn’t bad either.
Carlos D was the first bass player to make me see the beauty of bass playing . . . an absolute legend
Learning to play his bass lines (somewhat poorly )was one of the best times in my life, his lines are unmatched in ANY music form then and that still remains now. Easily one of the best bands in the world and definitely one of the best individual bassists In the world too.
And he learned from Peter Hook and Simon Gallup, among other post punk greats.
@@renula Yes, surprised I had to look through so many comments before these names came up.
the bass is genuinely fucking amazing. the nuances and flourishes are just spot on and so unique
Why do I keep playing this song over and over again???
Because you enjoy greatness
Carlos is amazing and Paul's atmospheric vocals are truly stunning
One of the greatest bassists of all time. There is no Interpol without Carlos....Is another band....
Noobs: real bassists don't play with a pick.
Carlos: give me these jbass
Carlos is verging on the next John Paul Jones in this song. A song based around the bass.
That sound from 3:10 onwards is just so evil and perfect I love it
ive always thought that!
3:18 the pianist realizes that Carlos is taking that bass to its maximum level....
Yep. Looked even a little worried!
I need a 1 hour version of that bass intro
You can find it somewhere in here
Carlos, I know you'll never read this, but you are a legend man!
Interpol were a breath of fresh air in 2002 & led many to discover unheralded bands like The Sound , The Comsat Angels & The Chameleons. Brilliant band.
Wow thanks for the tip will check out these others
The Chameleons. Yes!
More people should listen to this.
Brilliant.
JOY DIVISION , nesse som . mais moderno
ALL people should listen to this!
Best interpol bass track, and that’s saying something
Still miss u Carlos D!
Ever since Carlos left, the dark and gritty post punk rock style
Left Interpol…I love you guys but Carlos take in it ,was the cherry on the top
Well said man
that bass intro brings me to tears every time, so soulful
Do your thing Carlos!
This song is what molded my relationship with my now boyfriend. I love listening to this with him and I just love him as well. My best friend, my lover, my other interpol fan.
If I listen to other bands, I can't find a common thread in their songs. There can be moments of exciting technical expertise, but completely out of context, while Interpol pursue their musical theme without distraction, often complex and articulated to the point of unbelievable, with romantic and poignant accents that really leave their mark on the soul.
The new album does not dissapoint, once it breaks the mould its actually stunning.
Carlos❤
Without Carlos there was no interpol
The bass playing in this definitely makes me think of Peter hook
Carlos i love you
Man! I miss Carlos in Interpol so much!
Contra bass and guitars form the divine symphony🙏🤍🖤
Damn that killing bass line, is amazing
I fucken love watching Carlos play this
Unbelievable sound
i have been fixated on this live version for the last 24hours. i have probably watched this 30 times.
Carlos is legit👌
as Carlos mentioned this was written and recorded during their peak dopamine response from alcohol and substances and yeah I am glad they are sober now but man now they are boring without Carlos hope Dengler is doing well now because during recording of Turn On The Bright Lights he told producer "this better be good because I am tired of being poor" gotta love him what an Artist
hes doing ok. hes putting out his own albums with some super relaxing tunes he composed himself.
Sublime bass - to me, it's like he's playing it like a classical Spanish guitar at the intro?
D is the bassist of life ...
Bass player legend Listen till the end … the man can play …..
It seems humanly impossible that anyone could have conceived something like this!
I tried to transcribe an Interpol song, but I couldn't do it right because no amount of notation can express the godliness of Carlos Dengler's bass.
This is brilliance. Prolly shouldn't be listening to it. 20 plus years. Unbelievable.
Carlos as a Guitarist is playing guitar while he executed the Bass.
Awesome recording , awesome musicians.
Thank you.
I've played Lead Guitar and Bass for many a year and still laugh at the ones who mock the picking Bassist. 😆 Ask Sir Paul about that? I fingerpick, pick and slap so whatever sounds good for the song.
I find the plectrum of the pick sounds great most of the time.
ON MY LIFE, I LOVE THIS BAND!! That bass is so key, Carlos is a beast!
there was something about interpol with Carlos that made it something different than today.
You don't find such a great bass player every day. It is also true, however, that every day you don't find an extraordinary trio like Paul, Daniel and Sam!
Maybe it’s that Interpol is basically nothing without Carlos. Not just his bass. But just him being a part of the band was a real spark. Now he’s gone and so is the bands soul.
One of the greatest bands of all time
Blew my mind the first time I watched this concert on Real Player and learned about the tuning peg technique at 3:17. I think this is the most underrated track on TOTBL.
*2003 feels like a million years ago. I love Interpol.*
that fucking bass… such a stunning song.
Greatest song ever created in any genre
When I listen to this I hear The Cure, Sonic Youth, Joy Division…all of the seminal post-punk/noise rock bands. I love that Interpol wears its influences so proudly on its collective sleeves…
That bass is killer!
Carlos D is amazing to watch
I never really listened to Interpol. RUclips music algorithm introduced us. I first heard this song and went....wait, what....who?
WELCOME
Smh lol
EL MAESTRO CARLOS DENGLER 😃👍🏽QUE INTRO
This should be on the all time greatest rock list, awesome
This man was definitely going through it. all of his sadder songs are so raw and filled with emotion, dont think there'll ever be another band like this.
I get it the bass is good, but I always loved the hypnotic guitars. Why is that overlooked?
Best bass line ever
Miss ya "D" 😥
Damn. That was perfection.
2022 still fucking beautiful, wow
I learned bass because of this song ❤️
wow how good is that
Increíbles, puedo pasarme horas escuchando sus maravillas y siempre me sorprenden. Te trasladan a sitios oscuros con ratos de luz. Post punk del bueno.
My favorites part of this song is the build up to Paul singing “You’re looking all right toniight, In hink we should go.”, and damn I miss the vocals here! Just instrumentally that build up is magical tho.
It’s so funny to me that Carlos didn’t like playing bass. With Interpol, he was the star of the show. I’m sure playing bass sucks in a lot of rock bands, but the guitars in Interpol are usually just straight 8th notes. Perfect foundation for Carlos to groove on. It has never been the same since he left.
if only they made the bass louder during their live shows, im sure he wouldve stayed. only guy there i was paying attention to and only reason i got into interpol. mans insanely godlike
Agreed,I feel like they have tried honourably to emulate his bass lines but never quite pull it off, must admit I'm falling in love with their new album but can't help feel it would be even greater with Carlos on his axe.
Interpol BEST BAND, I really love his music, it seems the closest thing to heaven.
Masterclass of bass
My sister listened to them back in the old days, I never gave them a try
its interesting to see how much their sound has changed with out Carlos D. While he wasnt the best bass player out there, his creativity is rarely matched when it comes to basslines. ive always loved his lines, they add so much to the original interpol songs.
One of the greatest albums off all time!
This session is MAGIC ❤❤❤
can't stop listening.
Thanks for posting! Great early live clip. I still love Interpol, but I miss Carlos. He was integral to the band's sound. Amazing bass player. Though apparently one of the reasons he left is he got sick of playing bass! One of those restless, multi talented people.
This song always gets me teary. I played it during time as Funeral Director, which I loved. Been too Ill to practice. And lost 4 good friends and one a guy I really loved. But you guys helped me through it. Thanks.
We miss you, Carlos 😭
Holy crap! Carlos D is such an underated bassist. Awesome upload, awesome track, great look at Carlos and the guys at the top of their game together.
So Good. If you love music, you stay for awhile.
Damn this good music 🎶
For mi the best song of the band
