@@alexvanstrydonck6711 This isn't France or Belgium, it's Gaul. A completely separate civ has no relevance to that. Gauls predate both. By that logic, we can't have any Native American tribes while also having the United States. See, pretty silly?
Now we know, that Asterix village didnt survive all this time as the lone gaul village because of the magic potion, but because they were the only ones with an industrial complex. I bet that it looked a lot like that part of town where Obelix was storing his Menhirs.
@Valentín Freymóðsson neither did the gauls so I guess they have that in common. Interestingly enough the Gauls of Caesar's day had a close relationship to the greeks and many Gaulic tribes were adopting elements of Greek Culture and politics. The tribes in Belgium were specifically enamored with the Spartans and Caesar considered them to have been his toughest fight in the Gaulic wars (before Vercingetorix unites the tribes against him). It is not improbable that had the Roman's not conquered the Gauls they would have developed a poleis system similar to the Greeks and adopted more hellenistic styles of warfare.
I was worried about Sukritact's Vercingetorix, but I think it'll be ok even with Firaxis' Gaul. He'll just be a more aggressive leader, kinda like Chandragupta versus Gandhi. Except, you know, Ambiorix not being absolute crap.
Finally got around to playing a game as Gaul. That was fun! Admittedly, the district placement is a bit of a learning curve; I definitely could have planned my cities better last game - I had a bunch of districts with crap adjacency bonuses. The unique warrior replacement is also pretty awesome for early wars; I wiped Poland out in the classical era with a hoard of these guys and a siege tower. Also, it's cool having that early access to the industrial zone; I built several of those right away and production got to the point where a lot of my cities had built everything worth building so I was just churning out wonders to give them something to do.
Yeah, I'm getting aggravated with the civ leaders they're adding. Like, the fact that the base pack ONLY had one Black character, Mvemba a Nzinga, and ALL those juaight characters was stupid. 😑 Subsequent expansions included Black leaders minimally. Like, there's only: - Mvemba a Nzinga - Amanitore - Shaka Zulu - Mansa Musa - Menelik I would love your suggestion as well as Black Caribbean leaders and revolutionaries.
@Jemalo wait? Oman is considered an African civilisation? I mean I know that they controlled a strip of the east African coast for slave trading but didn't they originate in the Arabian peninsula?
Crossbow be really dangerous though surround your defensive districts with melee units and sit your crossbow man on an encampment or city centre and you will do incredible damage to any aggressive civ who wants to bully you off the map. Always pleased to discover New gameplay and Gaul is, with no doubt, a new one. It will be fun to test. I hope there is a référence to Astérix and Obelix in achievments. They are the most famous gaulish
For a "defensive culture" civ, I think it would be cool to have a unique industrial zone that does not lower tile appeal, but can only provide green energy and/or has weaker production output. That would be a fun playstyle as the whole green energy is kind of a headache because tiles which can give you that energy, could be better used for something else. And maybe give them a unique improvement that offers green energy.
It's the first civilization in "New Frontier" that I see as "meh". Oh, "Hallstatt culture" is verrrrrry nice and the oppidum looks wicked. But I wonder if "King of the Eburones" will have any impact on a culture game (where, if you play well, you won't need many units). The gaesatae will remain relevant longer than the warrior, true, but in the very early game you won't find many units stronger than you. The narration says it's a defensive civ, but I don't think so, at least in the early game. The gaesatae bonus against districts, and KotE seem more oriented to attack, using a constant production of units to cause "bursts" of culture. Anyway, bonus points for Ambiorix badass moustache.
@Valentín Freymóðsson funny thing is original French people were gaulish then the germanic kingdom, francs came and they ruled but they speak a romance language because of the roman times.
Haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but "Oppida/oppidum" (the name of the unique district) means "towns/town" in Latin (specifically NOT a large urban area like a city).

France already has 2 leaders: this is more a Belgium native tribe that is why
Genghis was an obvious choice, Pedro was an obvious choice, menelik was an obvious choice and so was Simon Bolivar
@@alexvanstrydonck6711 This isn't France or Belgium, it's Gaul. A completely separate civ has no relevance to that. Gauls predate both. By that logic, we can't have any Native American tribes while also having the United States. See, pretty silly?
Whoa Gaul really has a unique play style, and that's saying something considering the last few civilizations released.
My memories about Asterix and Obelix just unlocked and I'm happy now lol
So they're basically a reverse Japan? I dig it.
I like the music for this Civ. Can't wait for the full track :)
Now we know, that Asterix village didnt survive all this time as the lone gaul village because of the magic potion, but because they were the only ones with an industrial complex. I bet that it looked a lot like that part of town where Obelix was storing his Menhirs.

Gotta love that woman warrior swinging an enemy on her spear over her back like it was nothing
Its awesome!
That mustache is +100 appeal
I don’t know who you are, but whoever does the voiceover for these videos is ✨iconic✨
Just gotta give it to this lady for always going 11/10 on the pronunciations.
I won a Culture Victory through domination. A fun civ to play.
Omg, omg, defensive civ, I love it❤
I think I might've found my new go-to civilization, defensive production culture sounds amazing!
Another technically unknown leader to a great Civ with a unique way to play
He's famous in Belgium at least.
@Valentín Freymóðsson Does that matter? No modern people have anything to do with any people in the distant past.
Ambiorix is joining Shaka, Chandragupta and Gilgamesh’s workout club
I was worried about Sukritact's Vercingetorix, but I think it'll be ok even with Firaxis' Gaul. He'll just be a more aggressive leader, kinda like Chandragupta versus Gandhi. Except, you know, Ambiorix not being absolute crap.
Yeah Gandhi is actually a crap leader in civ 6, except when he's AI and he gets uranium.
Maya has a competitor for the turtle master throne, 3 ranged strikes per city and a unit that benefits from being behind in tech.
Lovely art. I do fear that these new civs may have too many advantages. Though perhaps other civs are getting reworked!
Weren't the Maori crazy OP when they first released?
Finally got around to playing a game as Gaul. That was fun! Admittedly, the district placement is a bit of a learning curve; I definitely could have planned my cities better last game - I had a bunch of districts with crap adjacency bonuses. The unique warrior replacement is also pretty awesome for early wars; I wiped Poland out in the classical era with a hoard of these guys and a siege tower. Also, it's cool having that early access to the industrial zone; I built several of those right away and production got to the point where a lot of my cities had built everything worth building so I was just churning out wonders to give them something to do.
Sorry nords, the *CELT* gets the girl 😎
Here we go! As always, keep looking for my piano arrangement for Gauls soon on my channel!
Trajan: I don't feel so good
*laughs in legion spam*
Trajan: Let your people go!
Gauls: never!
Trajan: "I send the swarm I send the horde"
@@EndreaiYT keep laughing, while you slink back to Rome in disgrace. 🤗
Damn Obelix is so fit, quarantine did its job
"How you will lead Gaul?". With Rome.
The Americas and Europe got two new civs and Africa only got one😢
U can give us like The Kanem Bornu Empire
Yeah, I'm getting aggravated with the civ leaders they're adding. Like, the fact that the base pack ONLY had one Black character, Mvemba a Nzinga, and ALL those juaight characters was stupid. 😑 Subsequent expansions included Black leaders minimally. Like, there's only:
- Mvemba a Nzinga
- Amanitore
- Shaka Zulu
- Mansa Musa
- Menelik
I would love your suggestion as well as Black Caribbean leaders and revolutionaries.
@Jemalo wait? Oman is considered an African civilisation? I mean I know that they controlled a strip of the east African coast for slave trading but didn't they originate in the Arabian peninsula?
2:05 "will you undermine" heh
When a 20 base strength unit suddenly has over 60 combat strength from some flanking bonusses... Seems balanced 😂
At most, they'll get +12 combat strength if there are 6 adjacent units.
Crossbow be really dangerous though surround your defensive districts with melee units and sit your crossbow man on an encampment or city centre and you will do incredible damage to any aggressive civ who wants to bully you off the map. An early victor might also be on the cards for this civ as well to have double city attacks
I hope the Gallic ancient theme makes use of the carnyx. Nothing would be more fitting or empowering. You can kinda hear it blast a bit at the beginning of this video, so I'm certainly hoping for more to come with the release!
Wait its ancien Belgium
It always has been
People never realise Belgians have been around for literally thousands of years haha
@@McKillaboy The Belgae while namesake of the Belgians, have a hard to find connection to them. There are more patterns to see with the Franks who had some of their Capitals in Belgium.
This civ is very strong, production is king in civ 6 along with culture being very strong, high production and good defense additions make this civ a powerful science or culture civ
Im french and .... Holy shit i was waiting that
once again, knocked it out of the god damn park with that music. good job firaxis!
Lol, I think Switzerland would be cool civ. This is pretty cool as well😁
- Have unique chocolate luxury. It doesn't provide amenities to them but it does to other leaders.
- The units of the Civ that have chocolate luxury get a combat penalty due to too much chocolate.
Switzerland Ability: You can't declare war und can't be declared war upon.
I think they’d have an ability similar to Canada that really restricts their ability to go to war
- cannot declare friendships denounce other civs or start wars
- hires out own troops to other civs for extra gold
@@kuvuta yes, i think they should get bonus science and diplomacy points when not at war aswell
J’ai tellement hâte de jouer comme des gaulois! Thank you for making the Gauls playable.
Oro blautiois queiois teleaechoinnun Celtos :) cheers from a Gaulish speaking frenchie.
I really like the Gauls. It's so good see another celtic civ in the game. But I miss Iceland and Romania in CivVI. I would love play with them.
Last time I checked Gauls and Celts were not the same thing.
Iceland was never a "civ" it was a Norse colony. And Romania was first a Roman province, then Ottoman/Hungarian vassal, and was an independent kingdom maybe 60 years before becoming first a Nazi puppet and then a Soviet puppet.. :/ not very glorious.
@@Finwaell When I said Romania, it could be the dacians, for example.
Gaul gonna be building wonders hella fast
The character model looks really good and Gaul looks really fun to play. Great job!
Well seeing how this first look. came out on my birthday I think they are my favourite civ now
I'm so conflicted, I love production and defence civs but I also love building districts next to eachother for nice looking cities.
now you can build (maybe) nice looking, sprawling villages ;b

Always pleased to discover New gameplay and Gaul is, with no doubt, a new one.
It will be fun to test.
I hope there is a référence to Astérix and Obelix in achievments. They are the most famous gaulish
Welp...there’s another shirtless male Leader I can undress with my e- ...form an alliance with
For a "defensive culture" civ, I think it would be cool to have a unique industrial zone that does not lower tile appeal, but can only provide green energy and/or has weaker production output. That would be a fun playstyle as the whole green energy is kind of a headache because tiles which can give you that energy, could be better used for something else. And maybe give them a unique improvement that offers green energy.
FIrst Look: Arthur Shelby leads Gaul.
Special trait: Magic potion. +100 attack to any enemy, and 100% bonus if Roman.
This has to be my new favourite Civilisation. Well done, Civ Team!
The harald in your profile pic is pissed
The True French.

The First Belgian.

@Valentín Freymóðsson funny thing is original French people were gaulish then the germanic kingdom, francs came and they ruled but they speak a romance language because of the roman times.
@@DoctorHorse The French are basically latin people now. Like the Portuguese, Spanish, Italians and Romanians in some extent.
Haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but "Oppida/oppidum" (the name of the unique district) means "towns/town" in Latin (specifically NOT a large urban area like a city).
WHEN ARE YOU GUYS GONNA DO IRELAND??! That's a unique civ you've never done before!
They did the Celts with Boudicca in Civ V
