the game i've spent the most hours on is dota with a crisp 5500h, then tf2 with around 3k and finely rainbow six with 1.1k, tho i havent touch any of those game in a long while, at least 1 year each and siege even longer cos the game went bad sadly :'(
Terraria is a one of a kind for me, and Overwatch scratches both the moba and the shooter itch. Also I just wanted to say that I recently got ror2 on my Xbox about two weeks ago, and I just managed to complete huntress on monsoon.
I need to get Path of Exile immediately. Literally everyone in my family- my mom, dad, and brother- are playing Diablo 4 right now, and I need to be different. Just checked, it's free on Steam, wish me luck!
My mom tried so many different ways to limit our screen time and everything and I just kept figuring it out so eventually she just kinda gave up. Whatever she did I would just figure out a solution
my father could lock my internet connection digitally so i had no chance of getting it xD but a friend of mine taught him self with youtube how to hack a router with a linux pc and that actually started his career has cybersecurity in some company
The closest connection I can see between the three games is that they all give you a different experience each time you play, how they give you that experience is what differentiates them.
just overlooking the connection of each of these games want you to play 1000hours to get well versed. the guy is realizing he likes endless gameplay loop/wipe games you can dump thousands of hours into.
that's a good point! I definitely enjoy games more these days that constantly reward the player who goes out of their way to learn & improve, rather than artificially placing everyone on an equal playing field
I think at one point I could name every loot spawn in Tarkov except for the ones on Labs and Woods off the top of my head, while playing, to a group of my friends. They’ve since reworked loot spawns and added/reworked a lot of maps and I haven’t played since the start of last wipe so that’s no longer the case sadly.
@@Woolietry Hunt Showdown, if you like tarkov than you will like that. It is more emmercive than tarkov. I like it more than Tarkov. There is nothing like it.
What I love about ROR2 is it takes game design back to pure video games for video game's sake. Like a proper arcade game. Shoot monsters, they drop money (because reasons), you spend the money on random chests that are lying around (for reasons), where you might find hooves, feathers or syringes (because reasons) so you can keep up with the scaling difficulty (which exists for reasons) all just see how long you can go (high score) . It's so damn pure and fun. it doesn't need to justify why any of it exists or what the stakes are bla bla. it's what a game should be imo. The replayable rogue-lite nature of the whole thing is just the icing on the cake. (I also happen to have many hours in POE, Warframe, Deep Rock and in Rocket League)
Exactly this. This is why I love mario games, they're pure game. It's a digital toy with almost no fluff to it. I notice that I gravitate towards this a lot. One example is Tetris. It's the game that takes me into "the zone" the most. RoR2 was love at first experience. No bullshit around it, just a fun game.
@@ConquestMmaybe the suit just converts monster materials to gold as an emergency function for unlocking chests. Idk how it’d work for the non ship-faring operators, but that’s a loose, non specific explanation for it.
The reason l4d & l4d2 are the best multiplayer games ever made to me. You can pvp if you want and there's no bs ranks or loot or god awful crafting. The coop is built on the simple idea of make it from point a to point b survive at all cost. Loots random each time the flow of the experience changes each time except for some scripted events. Just shooting zombies with your buds and chilling. Unless your on max difficulty then your white knuckling your way through hell 😂
@@helygg8892 I know it’s a completely different genre, but thoughts on minecraft then? More recent java specifically? Multiplayer is easy and imagination is the limit, both have an amazing modding community, etc.
The dunking on Bungie PvP was very cathartic, thank you. I've also been enjoying Boneshatter in PoE as a quick standard build, thanks for the build showcase.
Destiny shouldn't of had PVP. I heard the devs didn't want pvp but were forced to add it by execs. Anyways, I don't like Destiny generally now. Wish it had an ARPG seasonal model where you got shit fast and your character wiped. I got so sick of playing the same build and didn't want to grind multiple.
@@TheJolswarframe a game very similar to destiny in nature also had pvp and it died so pvp just isn't the stuff these kind of games click with i guess
@@beegyoshi1685 In Destiny you get a lot of the best gear from grinding PVE then you bring that gear into PVP. Actually, that idea is pretty intriguing to me but then of course the PVP is in no way fair.
@@TheJols Trials of osiris in the original destiny was so fun though. But I guess only the best players can enjoy it so for the rest pvp seems worthless
I feel like we have very similar tastes in video games and let me use that to suggest you to try Hunt:Showdown. It's one hell of a gem and it made me drop EFT entirely because of how good it is
tons of ppl on my stream keep telling me to play it but - I dunno - just seems kinda... bland... compared to tarkov. like, not only does the "risk" factor seem lower but also the general "wow" factor, too. I may check it out at some point, though
@@Woolie it's not nearly as hardcore as tarkov but it still is a hardcore shooter. Although it has a much better atmosphere and it sure as hell is a SIGNIFICANTLTY better designed game overall Also don't think that the western setting is just for flavour. The slow fireing clunky weapons of the time allow for some incredibly deep gameplay where positioning and strategy counts way more than good aim and reflexes It's just very very good. I haven't enjoyed a shooter so much ever since i was a kid playing cod for my first time and I still feel that way about it after 1000h of playing it
@@Woolie its definitely not a great game to watch but i can tell you one thing that might explain it. I played a match with a buddy of mine that took about 30 minutes. A fire a single shot, hitting someone in the torso but not killing him and he fired two shots, both missing. It was an awesome match in which we both had a ton of fun. The buildup and gameplay around the firefights are what this game is all about, depending on your playstyle of course. Somd people play like its cod.
Keep an eye out for Hyper Light Breaker, my friend. I have a feeling it's going to become the next Risk of Rain 2. It's being developed by Heart Machine, so you know it's gonna have the secret sauce that'll make the combat buttery smooth.
I loved Hyper Light Drifter but it's sequel and that game V.A. Proxy looks to have that RoR2 vibes. V.A. Proxy is the game where the viral clip of the dude cutting the heatwave from a nuke in half with a sword. It's like if Merc from RoR2 took a bunch of uppers and got his own game.
@@theguywhoseinsideyourwalls9153 It's got an early access version you can play by throwing some money towards their Patreon if you're interested. It's still a WIP but very cool nonetheless.
I really wish Woolie would play through Returnal, it's one of my favorites Rogue Likes and is made by an indie studio as well. It's a very interesting and unique experience.
I played PoE and liked it, but could never figure how not to die. I remember fighting the final story boss at that moment and dying in 1 second. I beat it by entering the arena, casting a spell in the first second, dying and repeating that. Died over 100 times for sure. I'm still gonna try PoE2 and die a bunch in there.
i died a ton on the final boss aswell. It took me a while to figure out to stack rage and adrenaline stacks while investing in a bit of health and armour on the paths to my main skills
Get more health on the skill tree, get some armor items (and granite flask from the quest) and make sure to have 4links and act 10 kitava is a walk in the park. Getting 1tapped every time you enter means your character must've had absolutely no defense whatsoever and probably a very low health pool. The attack patterns are pretty telegraphed, you'll get the hang of it in a couple of minutes. Sure once you know what you're doing many things become optional at that stage and it's more about getting into red maps asap, but for starters investing more into defense is a good way to learn mechanics and patterns even if your dmg will suffer in the process. The tradeoff is worth it because once you know what to look for you'll never fail again.
@@KillahEU I was using a witch or something like that, full blue shield (sorry I don't remember the names). The main problem with the boss (chapter 10 I believe?) was that there were a lot of enemies besides the boss, spawning constantly. It's been some years since I last played. Well, when chapters 6 through 10 came out.
I think the thing they have in common is a dedicated developer team who wants the game to succeed so they put more than 1 or 2 years of thier time into it after release.
RIP RoR2, being sold to gearbox and probably never getting another update. All we can wait for is RoR Returns, but I and many others prefer the 3D game, so seeing it get left in the dust really sucks :/
I'm definitely the opposite type of guy to you. I only have a few games I think I've spent over 500 hours on, and one of them is minecraft so that's not even notable. Also having a decent learning curve is actually important to me. I've tried getting into Tarkov specifically multiple times, but I've never gotten past the feeling of confusion and disappointment that's apparently expected for your first few raids. I do wish there was another game with its level of gun customization tho, and tarkov arenas looked kinda interesting.
I've loved Path of Exile (>4000hrs 😬) and Risk of Rain 2 (>300hrs) over the past decade. I'm currently getting completely lost in Deep Rock Galactic, though. I'm very new to it but it's so fantastic.
DRG is hands down the best multiplayer game thanks to one single button. Pressing V makes your character yell 'Rock and Stone!' for dwarven reasons. You found gold? You press V. You found a beautiful view? You press V. You heard another dwarf Rock and Stone? You press V. The game gathers players together around that silly gesture. (You can also drink beer before missions) Rock and Stone!
The things you brought up about POE really explains why Funcom changed the whole system of the skill tree from The Secret World to Secret World Legends, and how it ruined it.
He truly is a gamer among gamers. Also thanks for reminding of the days when my mom would hide my Gameboy and I would scour around the entire house, trying to find it like a little rat in a maze, only to find it and then have it taken from me again a couple hours later 😂.
oi, woolie, have you tried Noita? i got stuck in this game recently, this is a perfect example of "Curiosity killed a cat". knowing your love to tinker with mechanics in games, i'd recommend it, cuz it has so much mechanics of making a god run(it's roguelike) and so much ways to kill yourself
Noita is so fun... after you watch a 2 hour wand building guide lol. Seriously though, Noita is a great game and one that I would suggest to people who can take dying a million times.
"my friend group and I" believe me i would absolutely love tarkov if there was a single person in MY friend group that was able to commit and be decent at a game. but instead, I'm stuck with: the survivalist: plays subnautica and don't starve exclusively the bronze gamer: plays overwatch and fortnite exclusively the diamond gamer: plays rainbow six and valorant competitively the old fashioned: wont play anything other than half life or roblox for more than 10 minutes the indecisive: wont commit to a single game
Furi is a big one when it comes to ruining other games for me, it’s such a fantastic combination of bullet hell, melee combat, and fast paced gameplay. A huge factor in it is just that the controls are so tight and your inputs are pretty much instantaneous, with very short animations behind all of your moves. Furi feels so good to play that it’s hard to get into some games because they feel slow paced. Even Elden Ring I couldn’t get into because it felt too slow for me. Furi’s probably the primary reason I main Huntress and Merc in ROR2, their fast-paced playstyles are exactly what I’m looking for in games but simply cannot find.
Furi's pretty awesome. Each boss is tailored to your moveset, all having specific telegraphing and timings, which if you learn of each boss' patterns, you can take advantage of all kinds of little openings to slice, shoot, or charge up attacks. I really enjoy how both the player and the bosses have snappy attack animations, and the way that if they do something, there's a decent chance that you have your own move to counter them with. And the way the game give both sides multiple health bars, adding to this feeling of both sides being a boss battles to eachother. And there's a bunch of other things that I don't really know how to talk about (some other little things like paralleling effects of where you and the bosses having cool glowy effects upon charging moves). But if anyone sees this that hasn't played Furi and is looking for a relatively short (5-10 hours) and challenging game (with a pretty cool primarily synth/darkwave soundtrack), I suggest you go and get and play Furi.
my first thought when you mentioned your three most played games was simply "gameplay loop". I have 2000 hours in siege, and the thing that keeps bringing me back is this cycle of "preparation, execution, outcome" using each of those stages as their actual own building block to either learn an error in your strategy or execute a good round. Having played other rogue lites (and a bit of ror2) this was my first impression there as well. You jump in (picking whichever character you think will work best for you) go from room to room and level to level and see how far you can make it based on both your skill and your luck. While also (the neat thing about rogue lites) making a little progress each time, no matter how far you make it. And knowing that thanks to the rng aspect the next run could go completely different. POE is a more direct example of this, since you can progress for hours on end slaying enemies, going through dungeons and constantly getting stronger while also facing slightly stronger enemies as you go on. And with tarkov it's self explanatory. Get gear, use gear to get better gear, wipe and repeat. Once you have a good loop and satisfying gameplay to boot players can be hooked for years, sometimes even without major updates. Although, obviously games that constantly update like tarkov and POE can keep their grip on you for longer. Unless they screw up an update, but shit happens right?
and now compare how many games succeed in hooking players for years now compared to 2000s . while games are a lot more in number now the quality of the average game compared to back then has dropped substantially
If you know of any good beginner PoE channels, I'd love to give the game a try. Literally when you brought it up in the video, I tried to find an up to date beginner guide for some kind of minion build, and all of the videos were either pretty old or clearly meant for veterans because of all the skill tree/word vomit that was going on. It's the same reason I dropped the game the first time only 15 or so hours in, I wish there was a more central resource for helping people get over that hump.
PoE isn't the kind of game where updates "remove" or "kill" certain playstyles entirely - just reduce their effectiveness. so, chances are, a build that looks interesting to you that is under 2-3years old will still work, in some or all of its capacity. I can't recommend specific beginner channels for minion players but Ghazzy is a well-known minion guy and Zizaran is pretty much "the beginner PoE guy"
Nice to see Woolie has delved into Idle games a fair bit (And a fair lot when it comes to Melvor, which I haven't personally played) And that he's atleast touched on some of the great ones like Realm Grinder, obviously the OG Cookie Clicker, and Clicker Heroes
@@Woolie Exactly why it's one of the best ones. If you haven't seen it already, Antimatter dimensions is also a really good one but it does get grindy at certain points, although that's an issue with most idle games.
ultrakill has singlehandedly ruined EVERY SINGLE SHOOTER FOR ME. everytime i play a shooter i just stop playing it when there isnt a way for me to go zoom zoom at the speed of light
OMG my parents used to do the "hiding the router" thing and I also would go sneaking into their room to search for it. Once my mom woke up (or wasn't asleep yet, she has very bad sleep) and just said "put it back" in the calmest, quietest voice ever and that haunted me for the rest of the night, because I knew I was going to get my ass kicked in the morning
PoE Boomer here. Accidentally made my first guide in PoE this year (at first just wanting to show my buddies what the build looks like) which spiraled off into a full blown guide haha. Path of Exile is amazing and I can't wait for Exilecon!
Never played Path of Exile, but ROR2 and EFT really make me feel like I'm playing something "different" when I do get around to playing them. Its a shame with the toss and turns Tarkov's been through, but I'm hopeful for its future. Regardless of its state however, anytime you invite your friends to play with you instantly turns it into a blast, regardless of if things go perfectly, or completely wrong during a raid Edit: Forgot to mention another game that's close to entering a similar ranking of the other 2 games, Picked up Star Sector recently after watching a video over it, really sucked me in after a day or 2 of getting used to the game, highly recommend checking it out, a lot of people give away their own CD keys for others to playtest.
When I was a kid, I played league whenever I could. Sadly, the first time I tried to turn on the router again because my dad shut it off so I go to bed, he stomped on my netbook and threw it out the window of the 5th floor. Never did that again and had to play on the even crappier netbook of my mom when he was gone.
Honestly, regarding Path of Exile, that main advice of "Follow a build guide for your first character" is pretty much exactly what turns me off of the game. I don't want to do what someone else did the first time I play a game, I wanna do what I wanna do. And if the requirement for having the most amount of fun is to just do what someone else did? I'm just not interested honestly. Like, I've played Guild Wars for a couple years now. I got all the way to level 80 and beat the story picking what I wanted to pick. But when I got into the expansions, that content is significantly harder than the base game, and I constantly died in one hit over and over. By then, I decided "Alright, I can use a build now" because I was much more familiar with everything, how the stats work, what weapon I like to use, and all that. If I got told I needed to follow a guide from level 1? I would have dropped it before I hit level 20. Path of Exile just feels punishing to people like me. Because, while I *want* to do my own thing, with the amount of things there is, it is both overwhelming, and apparently not a good idea to just try things and experiment with the different skills, or at least that's what "Follow a build guide" says to me. It says "No, don't try different things and see what skills you find fun, just do what JoeShmoe420 did in his build." Who knows. Maybe it'd be different if I went back to it now, but I dunno.
As someone who’s played all three of these games extensively as well, here’s my top 3 things going into each game: ROR2: The game is your own experience, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Pick the play style that suits you best, whether that’s playing fast or slow, maining a character or playing them all, playing alone or with friends, or turning command + other relics on. PoE: USE A BUILD GUIDE. Jokes aside probably start with soft core trade league, but make sure to remember that the pace of the league is your own. Sure it’s technically easier to progress Uber quickly and efficiently so everything you’re farming is worth more in the first few days of league. But, if you’re like me and have that goal in mind every league and then get sidetracked, don’t let it get you down, the league doesn’t become that much harder and you really can play anytime with maybe a 10-20% cut to the economy as the league goes on. Tarkov: Gonna be the same as ROR2 here, quests are important and you should definitely do them as they’re the main source of progression, but the rest of your looting and learning should be whatever suits you best. Are you a pvp god? Run to hotspots and get to your familiar area and farm players. An awareness god? Maybe move slow and learn the maps keeping an eye or ear out for players. Someone who has trouble diversifying their learning? Main one map and move on once you’ve mastered it. The gun building comes with the game and filter by linked is your best friend!
Realm of the Mad God is another game that ruined other games for me. Being a simple bullet hell rpg with permadeath just makes it insanely fun, except when you grind unique items for HOURS then die to a mere butterfly.
I think what I love most about ROR2 is you can forgo the RNG if you choose. I love roguelikes but goddamn, the rng can make it very frustrating. Tons of mod support too
The game that ruined me was Rust. Nothing compares to how that game will suck you in for insane amounts of hours and keep you entertained. And by far the biggest adrenaline dumps in my gaming history were on Rust. Everything feels so one dimensional compared to Rust considering how much you can do and learn. Monuments, PVP, raids, base building, resource gathering, electrical wiring, farm bases, there's just SO many things to do to keep you fully occupied.
Truly, nothing has compared to the time I stopped a cash transaction in Factory, taking out someone with a couch bag full of Ratchets and Moonshine and Tetris in rigs. Hatchet running Night Factory is something you can't do in any other game.
If you genuinely enjoy complex games and don’t mind sticking around for the long term you don’t really need to follow a build guide for POE, just hop in, experiment early and often and try to do the best you can, and google stuff if you genuinely get stuck or just die a lot or end up doing no damage for some reason. Though, disclaimer, that’s what I did and I’ve probably watched more POE on youtube than I have played POE and I’ve played a *lot* of POE. I feel like if I had just followed a build guide when I started I would’ve just eventually got frustrated when I hit a wall eventually and gave up, whereas now I think I could at the very least POB any sort of build I can imagine and farm the currency I need for it though maybe not as fast as people who play all day.
you are me! every single thing you said in the first 2 min of the video applies to me. From my parents unplugging the Router all the way to league of Legends. except i chose the PlayStation path.
I have around 1k hours in Tarkov, absolutely loved playing it with my brother for the last ~3 years. Got to around lvl 40+ for 5 or 6 wipes. The cheater thing just made both of us stop playing. After that video came out we started getting more people blatantly cheating in every game, like voice chatting and calling our ingame names out or speedhacking around. The game's netcode or backend is apparently full of holes and allows for people cheating because of how not secure it is. I hope their anti-RMT measures are at least flattening the curve somewhat. As it stands I can't really play the game anymore because of how you regularly/easily lose sooo much time and progress to cheaters
Path of Exile has been on the periphery of my life for so long. I love ARPGs, but PoE seems so intimidating by comparison. It strikes me as being the kind of game you need to have an Excel spreadsheet open on another monitor to make sure you build properly.
idk if you have a vr headset but if you enjoy Escape From Tarkov I highly recommend you try out Into the Radius, it's like Tarkov mixed with Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl technically it's a horror game but it's not your typical horror game. It's kinda similar to Subnautica in the way that it's not meant to be scary but it ends up being kinda creepy at some parts. If you're not used to scary games and want a good place to start I cannot recommend enough that you play Into the Radius (if you have a vr headset)
The problem I have with games that are as open as PoE is that you're either very creative and like the process of making builds, or you'll find yourself having to copy paste builds from other people to even begin to enjoy the game, and that kinda kills the experience because you're left with a game that looks like my asshole in a warm day and lackluster combat. At least that's how it was ages ago when I tried it out. Also, isometric view is a personal pet peeve of mine.
Next you should get into Deep Rock Galactic to ruin all other horde shooters for yourself followed by Project Zomboid to ruin all other survival games for yourself.
path of exile being the first game that really let me endulge into the necromancer/summoner fantasy. To my knowledge there is just no other game, let alone an mmo where you can run around with 100+ minions doing the work for you.
I kind of wish you talked more about Melvor Idle as I never heard of that game until I saw it in this video. And seriously, we all know how much you love Risk of Rain 2, LOL!
I SAW THAT WOOLIE!!! I SAW SPIRAL KNIGHTS IN YOUR STEAM LIBRARY!!! First steam game I really got into, got too grindy for me but damn does that bring back some memories
Risk of Rain 2 is pretty peak. I'd put Silent Hill 2 up there for ruining horror games, Hitman WoA for modern stealth games and Street of Rage 4 making it extremely difficult for modern beat em ups to keep up. Street Fighter 6 is up there for me too despite being newer. The package as a whole and the online experience is something other recent fighting games are having a day of reckoning over.
ah yes, the love hate relationship for Destiny 2. Having personally dumped many an hour into the game at release in honestly the best era of the game, I still find myself craving to go back and play with a squad of friends simply because I enjoy the smoothness of combat in the game (specifically pve). Story wise the game is a mess. "Politically" the game is nothing more than a sad cashgrab at this point and its truly saddening. End of the day hate the game but have to give respects to the original intentions and feel it had.
Path of Exile - You can make any character your heart desires! (oh you want to get anywhere near the end game? Ok only 1% of those characters will work. Better just make a character exactly how someone online tells you to for the first umpteen hours)
Yeah I... Here is my History: Pokemon - On & Off since I was 6 Mario Kart 7 - Ages 8 - 12 Fortnite - Ages 13 - 15 COD Cold War - Age 16 Genshin Impact & League of Legends Wild Rift (The shitty version) - Age 17 I am now 18 and... IDK what to do anymore ngl. So many games, but I just can't stick to one. Now its a mix of Terraria with my brother, RoR2 with my friend, and misc gacha games when im bored. ... I miss when it was so simple, when I could just boot up Fortnite and play for hours on end day in and day out and never get bored.
The thing they all have in common is repeatable game play that is never the same twice. With Risk of Rain 2, it's the Director and complete RNG, a beautiful art style and smooth gameplay with POE, it has enough skills to try out a new build every reset and RNG with items, the game can be a little repetitive with going through the motions of the storyline, but it's still fun every time and with Tarkov, it's a hardcore PvP/PvE loot and shoot where your items are on the line in each run which adds a level of item loss fear thrill, but also a sense of achievement if you manage to kill someone with way better gear than you.
Wow, my top 3 "most played" games on steam are way different: 1 - Warframe (2069.6 hours) 2 - Brawlhalla (504.1 hours) 3 - Monster Hunter World (503.5 hours)
The Risk of Rain 2 background music really hitting my man. Game sat at 2 hours in my collection for a couple years but I’m just now discovering how good it is. But if we’re being honest for a second, the top game that “ruins” other games is definitely League of Legends. Wouldn’t be good content for the video though 😂👍
You down right lied about POE ANY idea I have? No, NOEEEEEEEEEE. That game is great, on par with Diablo, its truly is. BUT THE SKILL TREE. ITs actually not even about the nodes, its frankly not that overwhelming once you realize you just chain them along... BUT THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW A STRIC GUIDE IN ORDER TO PLAY THE GAME PAST A CERTAIN POINT OR YOUR CHARACTER BECOMES 100% USELESS IS THE WORST SHIT EVER Thanks for coming to my TED talk
ror2 is also HEAVILY moddable which makes it SO much better. the reason games like fallout and skyrim are still so timeless is because the mods create thousands and thousands of hours of replayability.
even before starting the video i was thinking "yeah, path of exile"; progression, itemization and freedom pretty much kills every other arpg for me, when i start a game and i realize i can't use a shield as a spellcaster...well, my will to play the game dies, when i realize that there is no endgame items worth farming, but it's just "bigger numbers", then i don't care about farming ingame
These sorts of games are the god tier ones. For me the average AAA game, if bought when not on sale, (who does that?) would cost approx $5 per hour of gameplay before I couldn't stand the game anymore. Even on sale though, they cost around $1 an hour. Minecraft, RoR2, and Grim Dawn have cost less than 5 cents per hour. The only game I can think of that created such a good experience for me that I don't actually care about the hours played and would pay full price for it today is Hellblade. I got everything I could out of playing that game once, and I will play it again someday... but it did in 6 hours what most games couldn't do in 60,000.
Funny thing about those objectively bad games you mentioned around the 2:30 mark. I genuinely enjoyed Fallout 76 and I played on release. The exploration and base building portion of FO4 was my favorite part and I didn't care about any of the story or NPCs. Objectivity doesn't exist.
your videos always crack me up man. Have you tried Last Epoch? I got sick of D4 real fast, PoE always looked too crazy to me and all the videos I see make it look too...easy? Is that not the case? I like challenge for sure
I know this comment is old, but as an avid player of every game you mentioned I figured I'd chime in. PoE is definitely not 'easy', as you get to the top of content there is very difficult bosses and dungeons that require perfect gear, but there is also a lot of farming that can be very easy, but necessary, if you have a good build. Last Epoch is fairly fun, the general complexity lies fairly smack between D3/4 and PoE, and personally I think the game has a solid base built, but when I played it last (a couple months ago) it still doesn't have near the same polish as the other two, nor the same amount of content that PoE offers. I would highly recommend Last Epoch for anyone looking for that nice middle-ground in complexity, as long as you keep in mind it is still in Early Access so it might not have the same amount of content or polish as of yet.
The one game that has ruined a lot of games for me is Squad. It's almost as real as Tarkov on a gunplay level but WAY more real on the logistical, tactical, and strategic level. No one, with any level of combat experience, runs around solo. Nor do they worry about loot during a gunfight and just kill random people to get it. Firefights with that level of firepower ONLY happen when there are logistical supply chains and purposes way bigger than the individual doing the shooting. Its like imagining you could drop into a forest and make a cell phone.

The closest connection I can see between the three games is that they all give you a different experience each time you play, how they give you that experience is what differentiates them.
Replay value is the most important aspect of games because it's a combination of how all the mechanics excite you
the connection is that they're grindy
@@CheeseBrie How is risk of rain 2 grindy?
@@pumpkinpeen5937you have to stay on a stage for 5 minutes to get all the loot😡😡

also these games have one glaring factor connecting them all, knowledge equals success
that's a good point! I definitely enjoy games more these days that constantly reward the player who goes out of their way to learn & improve, rather than artificially placing everyone on an equal playing field
This is answer for Woolie question , skill curve , knowledge , everzthing together run like good oiled machine ...
That dopamine and how meaningful the reward is.
Ironically ROR2 has really good lore though and everything you said is explained (except why the monsters drop money).
@@Woolie it's not nearly as hardcore as tarkov but it still is a hardcore shooter. Although it has a much better atmosphere and it sure as hell is a SIGNIFICANTLTY better designed game overall
Also don't think that the western setting is just for flavour. The slow fireing clunky weapons of the time allow for some incredibly deep gameplay where positioning and strategy counts way more than good aim and reflexes
It's just very very good.

It’s very easy not to die once you get the hang of things

You press V. oi, woolie, have you tried Noita? i got stuck in this game recently, this is a perfect example of "Curiosity killed a cat". knowing your love to tinker with mechanics in games, i'd recommend it, cuz it has so much mechanics of making a god run(it's roguelike) and so much ways to kill yourself
Then you become a god to be killed by single pixel of purple
Noita is so fun... after you watch a 2 hour wand building guide lol. Seriously though, Noita is a great game and one that I would suggest to people who can take dying a million times.
"my friend group and I" believe me i would absolutely love tarkov if there was a single person in MY friend group that was able to commit and be decent at a game. but instead, I'm stuck with:

the bronze gamer: plays overwatch and fortnite exclusively
the diamond gamer: plays rainbow six and valorant competitively
the old fashioned: wont play anything other than half life or roblox for more than 10 minutes
the indecisive: wont commit to a single game
Based Furi enjoyer
The idea that wooly grew up in the amazing world of gumball house fits a little too well
my first thought when you mentioned your three most played games was simply "gameplay loop".
Nice to see Woolie has delved into Idle games a fair bit (And a fair lot when it comes to Melvor, which I haven't personally played) And that he's atleast touched on some of the great ones like Realm Grinder, obviously the OG Cookie Clicker, and Clicker Heroes
realm grinder is the best "numbers go up haha" imo... too many idle games fail to make the continual prestige grind interesting
@@Woolie Exactly why it's one of the best ones. If you haven't seen it already, Antimatter dimensions is also a really good one but it does get grindy at certain points, although that's an issue with most idle games.

This was a fantastic video my guy. Very fun to watch, and incredibly nostalgic.
Regardless of its state however, anytime you invite your friends to play with you instantly turns it into a blast, regardless of if things go perfectly, or completely wrong during a raid
Edit: Forgot to mention another game that's close to entering a similar ranking of the other 2 games, Picked up Star Sector recently after watching a video over it, really sucked me in after a day or 2 of getting used to the game, highly recommend checking it out, a lot of people give away their own CD keys for others to playtest.
8:41 Did he just hit us with the Jimmy Mackaroy "If you can dream it, you can do it"?
As a very active destiny 2 player you bungie bit has me laughing so hard 😂😂😂
Maybe it'd be different if I went back to it now, but I dunno.
hearing you talk about the "director" makes me want a gamemode in multiplayer where you can be said director
I've never heard of ror2 explained in such a good way. You're an amazing youtuber Mr. Woolie
I almost bought it during steam summer sale but I changed my mind last minute.
the analogy to chess does not hold though. you take every fight the exact same way. avoid enemy attacks and shoot them.
As someone who’s played all three of these games extensively as well, here’s my top 3 things going into each game:
ROR2: The game is your own experience, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Hey Woolie, if you like Tarkov you'll almost certainly like Hunt Showdown. Give it a peek, it's an absolutely incredible game.
"there is NOTHING like tarkov out right now" the ghosts of tabor in question:
I think what I love most about ROR2 is you can forgo the RNG if you choose. I love roguelikes but goddamn, the rng can make it very frustrating. Tons of mod support too
Woolie, care you explain that time on Melvor Idle? :P
A metric butt-ton is approximately 4.68 shit-load if your using the metric system
Would love to see more PoE content from your perspective.
I am now stuck in a Path of Exile hell hole which I will never escape
A gamer that has put me off basically everything else in the genre is Ultrakill, as that game is the peak of action shooters.

Path of Exile has been on the periphery of my life for so long. I love ARPGs, but PoE seems so intimidating by comparison. It strikes me as being the kind of game you need to have an Excel spreadsheet open on another monitor to make sure you build properly.
Your editing style is so damn good. Obligatory MAOW!
Beyond good and evil still haven’t found a game that given me the same feelings
idk if you have a vr headset but if you enjoy Escape From Tarkov I highly recommend you try out Into the Radius, it's like Tarkov mixed with Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl
technically it's a horror game but it's not your typical horror game. It's kinda similar to Subnautica in the way that it's not meant to be scary but it ends up being kinda creepy at some parts. If you're not used to scary games and want a good place to start I cannot recommend enough that you play Into the Radius (if you have a vr headset)
As a d2 player I hate how right you are about pvp.
Love the video. Im going to play your 5 most played
The 3000 hours in Melvor is so relatable tbh
The problem I have with games that are as open as PoE is that you're either very creative and like the process of making builds, or you'll find yourself having to copy paste builds from other people to even begin to enjoy the game, and that kinda kills the experience because you're left with a game that looks like my asshole in a warm day and lackluster combat.
At least that's how it was ages ago when I tried it out. Also, isometric view is a personal pet peeve of mine.

path of exile being the first game that really let me endulge into the necromancer/summoner fantasy. To my knowledge there is just no other game, let alone an mmo where you can run around with 100+ minions doing the work for you.
Just at the start of the video looking at your steam library, I can tell you have good taste

Pokemon - On & Off since I was 6
Mario Kart 7 - Ages 8 - 12
Fortnite - Ages 13 - 15
COD Cold War - Age 16
Genshin Impact & League of Legends Wild Rift (The shitty version) - Age 17
I am now 18 and...
With Risk of Rain 2, it's the Director and complete RNG, a beautiful art style and smooth gameplay
with POE, it has enough skills to try out a new build every reset and RNG with items, the game can be a little repetitive with going through the motions of the storyline, but it's still fun every time
and with Tarkov, it's a hardcore PvP/PvE loot and shoot where your items are on the line in each run which adds a level of item loss fear thrill, but also a sense of achievement if you manage to kill someone with way better gear than you.

You should try Hunt: Showdown!
Melvor Idle was cracked. Played the pre-release to max. Quit just before township dropped. Huge fan. Got me through night shifts for a while.
Wow, my top 3 "most played" games on steam are way different:
1 - Warframe (2069.6 hours)
2 - Brawlhalla (504.1 hours)
3 - Monster Hunter World (503.5 hours)
The laughing at bungie had me dying
The Risk of Rain 2 background music really hitting my man. Game sat at 2 hours in my collection for a couple years but I’m just now discovering how good it is.
But if we’re being honest for a second, the top game that “ruins” other games is definitely League of Legends. Wouldn’t be good content for the video though 😂👍
You down right lied about POE
ANY idea I have? No, NOEEEEEEEEEE. That game is great, on par with Diablo, its truly is. BUT THE SKILL TREE. ITs actually not even about the nodes, its frankly not that overwhelming once you realize you just chain them along... BUT THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW A STRIC GUIDE IN ORDER TO PLAY THE GAME PAST A CERTAIN POINT OR YOUR CHARACTER BECOMES 100% USELESS IS THE WORST SHIT EVER
Thanks for coming to my TED talk
i agree with that
That stuff you did with your lil brother is me and mine with our nintendos and the wifi cable to our gaming attic
i didn't know woolie was into incrementals dang
ror2 is also HEAVILY moddable which makes it SO much better. the reason games like fallout and skyrim are still so timeless is because the mods create thousands and thousands of hours of replayability.
the marathon/bungie segment is so painfully true
Gears of war 1 was the best online shooter experience ive ever had. 4500 hours in csgo
even before starting the video i was thinking "yeah, path of exile"; progression, itemization and freedom pretty much kills every other arpg for me, when i start a game and i realize i can't use a shield as a spellcaster...well, my will to play the game dies, when i realize that there is no endgame items worth farming, but it's just "bigger numbers", then i don't care about farming ingame
Objectivity doesn't exist.
the bungie bit was the best part hahhaha
your videos always crack me up man.
The risk of rain 2 OST is a perfect backround music.
