Are you using a PD (power delivery) usb battery bank or is that some sort of converting lead for 12volts for the FT817?

Some times I used a small 12v car jump pack but that was a usb battery bank with a 5v to 12v booster cable. I have the same cable for charging hand helds

@@wowslyah that’s interesting, I’ve seen them on eBay but didn’t think the booster cable put out more than 1amp max. Nice compact setup using usb, plus it’ll charge with a small folding solar panel.

@@The_Last_Post I had my 11w folding solar panel with me with 2 usb ports. I just checked that lead and it says the output is 12v 1 to 2.4 amps. I should mention it only works with the battery in the radio for Rx and tx. If the battery is not in the radio it will only have enough power for Rx.
      That's a 26.000mah battery pack and I think the 817 has a 1.800mah battery.
I have not fully tested them together but I should get a good few hours from it :)
When i charge my ft2d from that lead it does take over night to charge lol but it's an extra option when 12v is not available and a great back up :)

@ that’s all good info about the lead. So does it actually charge the internal battery from the USB bank, do you have to set the charge time on the menu? 6hr/8hr etc. I’m interested as I have an FT818 :)

@@The_Last_Post if you charge while the radio is off you do need to set the menu but it will still charge while on and being used
