Both of their first episodes also talk about the Oscars and have a comment from Ralph/Jake saying they like Spotlight when Adam dismisses it as forgettable

Hi goblin

I dont wanna be this girl, and I respect that Adam likes Emilia Perez and finds qualities in it that I dont, but I feel (as a trans woman myself) that the way Emilia Perez presents transness is actively harmful and to just say that people who say this are just "twitter drama" is a bit disingenuous. And I generally find Adam agreeable in most contexts
That's the thing. He really didn't talk about qualities that make it a good film. He just seemed to focus on accusing negative reviews as being insincere or ignorant.
@@searsino He's already made a video discussing his views on the movie, that was posted months ago. Additionally this isn't the episode to discuss it, especially when 1/3 hosts haven't seen it.
@@searsinowhich is funny because he accuses others doing it.
Mr Man's first appearance on the pod just felt so natural, you guys are making a fantastic decision
I love hearing them talk about emilia perez here knowing what is coming next episode (jake has now seen and hates it and the resurfacing of karla sofia gascon’s tweets)
Nice to see Count Orlok joiining the podcast
Really disappointed in this episode’s discussion of Emilia Perez. Adam strawmanned the criticisms. He said people think that enjoying the movie is racist, which is just reductive. Alex didn’t critique the movie at all, just kept it moving. Maybe engage with what Mexicans and trans people are saying about the movie so we can start to have an intelligent conversation about the film.
I get that people are being nasty toward Adam because he enjoyed the film. I’m not part of that group. He didn’t even explain why he liked it here. I was interested in hearing his thoughts. I did not appreciate his condescending tone.
I imagine it's because at the time of recording Jake hadn't seen it yet, and they didn't want to spend too much of the this pod about the nominees on just the one movie. I expect a more in depth conversation about it next episode honestly.
Exactly. I’m hoping he hears out the criticisms from the people who are offended by this film (and not the “anti-woke” numbnuts) and sees that this isn’t another Sound of Freedom situation.
Lately he feels the need to respond to EVERY criticism of his views, for no reason. Adam's been almost a decade being a content creator and still doesnt understand that he doesn't need to feed the trolls or to debate every single point that's diferent to his. And when he blames his attitude on his self diagnosed autism its infuriating
@@moritzzz1 lmaoo I think you meant Adam not Alex. But yeah I've noticed the same.
Maybe it's not a great excuse but I don't entirely blame him. Adam, as wrong as he can be sometimes, gets misrepresented a lot imo and at this point I don't think he can really tell when someone is giving honest criticism or is just trolling.
Personally I can't look at his twitter because it just becomes infuriating in both respects (him taking things too personally and people being bad faith for no reason). But then again it's also just twitter.
@@ColombianThunderoh yeah sorry I meant adam
I honestly remember thinking last episode, “oh, Jake would be SUCH a good third host, but I can’t imagine they would ask him, I guess I’ll just have to savour this.” I was glad to be wrong. I think he’s gonna bring a really different and great energy to the podcast and follow in the footsteps of the late Ralph Sepe.
A pleasant surprise for sure
the cool thing about Emilia Perez is that the art is bad AND the morals are bad so it's unlikeable on all fronts
Emilia Perez literally does the stuff that Adum hates in Films, especially in Musicals.
another person said it, feels like adam's just being a contrarian about it, most of his praises towards it are not even about the movie itself, but about the reception
He did praise a fair amount of things in the movie, like choreography, editing, staging, camerawork, and the music (and yes, I’m aware that most people don’t like the music).
@@fabianrios9659well his praise for the movie started months before the backlash began, so no.
@@clanofclams2720 exactly. Tbh I'm interested in hearing people's takes of the movie around the time that Adam watched it to know if it was also mixed around then.
Of course, we do know that critics generally liked it overall so probably not. The hate for the film didn't really come until it hit Netflix and even then it wasn't THAT bad.
Honestly it seems to me most people didn't seem to start to hate it until it got a bunch of awards recognition AND comments about the director came out about doing zero research on Mexican culture. Personally I think that soured a lot of people, especially Spanish speakers.
It's not even that horrible, but everything surrounding the film, including the sentiment of overrated praise has warped how everyone interprets it IMO. Also people generally don't like musicals unless it's Broadway.
@@moosemush he’s completely entitled to feel that way but why is he saying that most people are saying “if you like the film then you’re racist” like holy shit, Is he seriously just making up a controversy instead of just saying that he thoroughly enjoys a movie that not everyone else likes? It’s really pathetic actually
I think its really sweet that Alex is casting away his bigoted views on "every thing" and welcoming someone who carries thing with open arms!
Truly love seeing growth.
isnt it hard to carry things with open arms?
@@TiMonsor depends on the shape
@@TiMonsorIt is, but he took a creed to carry things with arms wide open.
Yeah Adam. Emilia Perez is infinitely worse than Green Book, Crash and Maestro. People aren’t being dishonest, they just have eyes and ears that work lol.
The thing is that Adam actually enjoyed Emelia Perez which is why he feels that way.
@@ColombianThunder And that’s totally fine that he liked it. But I just never expected him of all people to use the classic “everyone who doesn’t share my opinion must be lying” cliche. It’s childish.
@@alexmaverick6647 yeah it's odd. I imagine he's in part imagining some of it based on what he expects the discourse to be about.
I don't like to pull the old "he only focuses on the technical aspects" criticism, but the fact that he claims people aren't talking about the movie, when the issues come from the movies cultural and LGBT-representation, is remarkably reductive. Good directing can't save something with offensive content.
Adam is going full baby mode in this one. It genuinely feels like two reasonable adults babysitting a toddler
Man Thing seems like a nice host so far, though
There absolutely are substantial arguments for why people hate Emilia Perez
I’m not sure what Adam likes about it, it’s a musical in which the music sucks, there are some horrendous musical numbers, and compared to other musicals, this one noticeably lacks any memorable staging or choreography; the writing is shallow and even nonsensical at points; even the cinematography is kinda bad with all the random camera zooms and circling.
@haanoon Don't forget with how much Adam rips apart films for a lack of authenticity and care for the subject matter, he gives a pass for one of the most egregious examples.
He said in his quickie review that he liked the lighting, spacing, camerawork, choreography, and cinematography
@augment96 Lol, those were mid at best
YMS disagrees
I don’t know if it was just me, but Adum condescending and reductive tone towards any Emilia Perez take, comes up with such a “I know how to enjoy and appreciate art” kind of vibe.
I’ve never had that kind of perspective on his takes.
People have criticized this film even for its technical, cinematic, and artistic aspects (with more than valid arguments on why it sucks on those aspects as well), even if you ignore the entire social and racial discourse it has sparked.
In my opinion, Adam hasn’t researched this film enough, which sucks because he used to stand out for his well-founded investigations into the background of any production that interested him.
I don't like leaving negative comments but man hearing someone say "yeah when I watch Emilia Perez I'm only critiquing things like the cinematography" is also such a bad way to look at a film. Like I'd argue it's just as reductionist to see a film written in terribly mistranslated Spanish with poorly written music that handles being trans so poorly and responding by saying "yeah but is the camera work good". Good cinematography or not the film can still be bad on the merits of its clunky writing and poor handling of its subject matter.
He praised the songs for being bangers and very catchy.
i find it insane that adam legitimately thinks emilia perez is a good movie and he thinks people are angry at the film for what it involves instead of realizing that we are madd because the movie sucks. legit his worst take of all time
This while at the same time shitting on Conclave. It's fantastic, plain and simple.
@ ikr cant believe the conclave disrespect
@Lucca1103 if he says he likes Emilia Pérez because he's judging the technical aspects, I don't understand why he's shitting so much on Conclave when technically, it's a good movie. It has a nice color palette, good acting, some nice shots. It just shows that he can't admit he liked a bad movie, so he has to find a way to justify his opinion. Like it's ok to like bad movies sometimes bro, just admit it, don't treat it like your opinion is right and anyone saying the movie is bad or offensive is lying lol
@@Lucca1103 No I found it to be surface level, all style no substance. I like style so it's not a complete bore of course but it's not a perfect film.
A good oscar bait so a professional critic looking for originality like Adam is bound to hate it.
Emilia Perez is painful to watch and offensive towards Mexican culture and the Mexican people. It's basically universally hated and panned in Mexico, and the rest of Latin America, the vast majority of the world despises the film once they see it. It's embarrassing and utterly ridiculous and weird. The film sucks.
Adam has good reasons for not liking Conclave but “picking the pope doesn’t matter” is so dumb.
As someone who never grew up Catholic, I kinda had the same feeling as Adum. I didn’t quite understand the impact or significance of a new pope, but that’s just me not knowing anything about the Vatican.
@@Jormbis besides the specifics of leading the Church, the Pope is just obviously an extremely influential person on the global stage.
@@eoghan00 Also, as an atheist, it kinda doesn’t mean much to me either, and it made me question how anyone would change their beliefs about their lifestyle if someone new in the chair of the pope just says so.
I guess that’s just me problem tbh
Not even with the movie, just my own understanding of the meaning of a pope.
@@Jormbis I'm also an atheist and I didn't have to understand how the pope would affect ME but I knew it would affect other people. I understood that it was a story that had consequences that despite going beyond my own lens and experience in life, had significance. I didn't even like the movie btw, but that just isn't a sound reason.
Well, the current pope would really only matter if you live in a country with a catholic majority, then papal doctrine might actually have enough influence amongst the population that it could affect the policies and culture of said country.
According to google, around 66% of Americans identify as Christians, with 22% of Americans identifying as specifically catholic. Canada is slightly more catholic, but the numbers are roughly similar.
So most Christian North Americans don’t give a shit about the pope, let alone North Americans as a whole.
Contrast that with a country like Austria, where at least half the population is catholic, it would make sense for an Austrian to be concerned with who the current pope is. The same would go for countries such as Italy, Spain, and Mexico.
I’ve spent my entire life living on the west coast of the US, and I can assure you that very few people out here actually give a shit about the Catholic Church.
And the ones who do are usually about as old as dirt.
Holy shit, honestly, this is an awesome decision. You guys got on so well the last time. I miss Ralph, and the era of Alex & Adam alone was very chill lol but this is a great step! Very excited to see this era!
So I haven’t seen Emilia Perez and I do intend to out of morbid curiosity. But I do feel like Adum is being kinda dismissive about the criticism it’s receiving. Like it isn’t just that it’s “problematic”, it’s a director admitting to not doing any research on the country is supposed to based in. Saying you don’t like a film because it doesn’t understand the topic it is covering or the region it takes place is criticising the art, I find it strange he can’t see that.
Either way mad respect to him for sticking to his incredibly unpopular opinion, one of the reasons I like his views is because they are unapologetically his own. Looking forward to forming my own opinion in the coming weeks lol.
Yeah I gave it a fair chance, I still thought it was really bad (for even more reasons than you described, not the worst thing ever though). But glad he always sticks to his guns, I feel like it’s way more difficult to defend something that everyone hates than it is to shit on something most people love.
Adam's just wrong here regarding Emilia Perez tbh. It's fair that he watched and liked it enough (probably all the bad things about it flew over his head for some reason). But not even trying to re-evaluate his own opinion despite everyone pointing out every wrong thing the movie is doing on its message, direction, songs, art and characters and saying people are 'lying' it's big contrarian energy to an ignorant degree.
"re-evaluate his own opinion" the most sheep sentence if i ever heard
@@meciociolove the guy but his opinion here is dogsh*t
he’s the exact opposite for a film he doesn’t like, he tries to convince everyone that their opinion is stupid and the movie is for babies. either way he comes off like a real prick sometimes
To be fair, the preference is subjective. He doesn’t need to reevaluate anything.
Man, I hope that Adam can be convinced to think the way that I think. Maybe we should send him to a gay conversi- I mean, a cultural film studies class, that's what I meant to say.
First Sardonicast episode I want to hear for Jake and the first thing I hear is Adam saying that the discourse around Emilia Perez is cancer and has nothing to do with the entire movie while the other members stay completely quiet, grreeeat
I’m happy to pay extra money for the extra host
Adam can like emilia perez but it has no business at the Oscar's
Man I really hate when Adam generalizes discourse about a topic with “They’re being intellectually dishonest”
He did the same thing when talking about the Man vs Bear discourse and I think it’s just such a harmful way to generalize discourse from a specific group and especially minorities
He talked before about people not engaging with what he has to say, but yet he does the same thing to other people without seemingly realizing it. Like how are people supposed to engage with his thoughts on Conclave when he straight up just says that no on cares about who becomes the new Pope. What part of that are we supposed to genuinely engage in?
What bothers me about the defenders of Emilia Pérez (who are mostly critics who watched the film at festivals) is that they are so pretentious and have such huge egos that they can't admit they enjoyed a flawed movie. To this day, they continue to defend the performances in the film-performances that any Spanish speaker will tell you were disastrous, which is not only the actors' fault but also the director's. The script is so bad that it's full of lines straight out of fan fiction.
To clarify, I understand all the issues with the film regarding transphobia and the representation of Mexicans, but I would be dishonest if I said I feel particularly "offended to the point of hating the movie." So it bothers me when people say that’s the only reason I hated the film.
It's insulting to assume that I didn't enjoy a movie just because of the online discourse, especially a film with such a terrible script as this one. Selena Gomez talking about her vulva sounds like a line straight out of an erotic fan fiction written by a 14-year-old girl, or Emilia's kids telling her that she smells just like their father-like guacamole, nachos, and tortillas-is indefensible.
Can you imagine if we changed Emilia Pérez’s protagonist’s to be an african american trans woman and rewrote the dialogue so that her kids said their father smelled like fried chicken? The movie would have been booed at festivals.
As a native Spanish speaker, I have praised performances in other languages, only to later be told by native speakers that they weren’t actually convincing. My response has been to continue enjoying and praising the film, without disregarding my own experience, but also taking into account the criticism of those who might know better than I do whether a performance in a foreign language is good or not. That is what didn’t happen with this movie, and it’s something its defenders have failed to do.
I haven’t even talked about the music because I believe there are more qualified people to discuss it. And to be fair, I think the cinematography and makeup are strong points of the film, and I’m not going to say it doesn’t have certain artistic merits.
I believe that anyone can enjoy Emilia Pérez specialy people who watch the movie at a festival.
I also think that some detractors of the film have made the conversation unproductive. However, I also believe that those who enjoyed the movie are guilty of responding to criticism in an equally unconstructive way-by refusing to admit that maybe the performances weren’t good or that the script is deplorable.
What do you mean you haven't talked about the music because there are more qualified people to discuss it? 😅. It's freaking music. Did you like the songs? Did you find them catchy? Did you find them enjoyable? Like wtf.
It's hard to take the negative critics of Emilia Perez seriously when 99% the only argument to say the music is bad is the line "From penis to vagina" (because parody music don't exist)
And yes the accents is a flaw in the performance of Selena (his body language is still convincing despite that)
@@meciocio lmfao did you like anything about the movie? why?😂
@@yeahey5947 haven't seen it yet
I disagree. I think most of the performances were fine, and Zoe was really good. But if you don’t like the performances, that’s fine
Adum liking Emilia Pérez is the most surprising thing of 2024. I am still all ears for how he will defend his opinion, but I will still probably vehemently disagree with what he has to say.
Also, Flow is mainly a Latvian film. Only the character animation and sound design was done in France and Belgium.
I'm starting to think Adam just likes being a contrarian with emilia perez
To be fair, he saw and liked it way before everyone watched it and started hating on it
I don’t think so. I think he genuinely likes the movie. And he did see the movie before its controversies were well known to people
Believe it or not it was fairly well-liked 3 months ago
Or maybe he just likes it, as problematic it may be
Adum likes a lot of popular things though?
Not everyone you disagree with is a contrarian
This is great news! Mr Man brings a great dynamic to the 'cast
13:17 No Adam! You don't wanna die on that Emilia Perez hill, there boyo!
Dude we get it, you like Emilia Perez… do you have any opinions on it or “it pisses off people so i like it” the extent of it?
Yeah.... it's kinda annoying and childish.
And I'm certain he likes because it pisses off people.
The thing about Emilia Pérez is not only the fact that it is atttempting to be camp and failing miserably, but the awful use of dialogue in a foreign language that might not be perceived by english speakers entirely, awful script, unnatural conversations and a reductionist aproach towards trans and mexican problematics. I am honestly amazed that Adam is trying to say the negative reviews are coming only from twitter? Like really? It has been so insulting mexican people got the CONAPRED (Organization against discrimination) involved. And even tho I have almost always agreed with your opinions, I genuinely believe in this case scenario you are being a reductionist.
Twitter? Going around here on RUclips, and I've not seen any good review. On the contrary, they are all bad to horrible.
Adum is being an insufferable twat, like he is sometimes.

Jake has been a host for one episode and he's already done the impossible:
Convinced Alex to make more videos
Im sorry but Emilia Perez is that bad it lacks an understanding of the culture its portraying every song in the movie is awful with most of it sounding like the actors are just talking singing through them. It tries to simplify these super complex issues such as the stuff with cartel not to mention it wasn’t even shot in Mexico. The concept of the story is actually a neat idea but turning it into a musical along with some of the decisions they put into story made for a really terrible movie.
but it has trans stuff so it is the best thing evaahh...
It's easier to appreciate the writing in Emilia Perez when you have no clue what they're saying, rewatching it with someone who understands Spanish might be a totally different experience
I mean obviously, i watched so many movies in languages so further away from my own that if you pulled me and said about one of them "Hey do you know that movie you enjoyed a lot? The substance was so much fun that I did not even notice how completely nonsensical it is. Why would anyone choose to take it, if it is just another person that is young and pretty while you yourself just vegetate and are miserable. Who cares if it is technically a version of yourself in some strange and esoteric sense. If I feel bad about myself I wouldn't care about some other sexy version of myself going about and getting all the action. These are not my experiences.
@@ramonek9109 She did transfer to the new body. Or her mind did. It's what the guy on the phone kept reminding her of: "there is no she, there's only you." What we see Elizabeth Sparkle experience throughout the film is the kind of disassociation you can experience from, well, substance abuse, extreme self-loathing and lacking care for future consequences (the movie also depicted how the way we treat our bodies when we are younger will usually end up with severe consequences for us when we get older). Who hasn't cursed their past selves for dumb decisions or promised their future selves to do better "tomorrow I will do this thing, and not procrastinate anymore!" only to still not do it?? In Elizabeth's case this kind of thinking only became worse by the fact she literally kept jumping between two different bodies. One which she clearly preferred over the other. Being Sue was basically like being high or drunk for Elizabeth.
At least that is how I intepreted it 😊
I really liked your 8 Mile discussion because I live outside Detroit and when it came out it was inescapable but not exactly in a bad way? The fact that it was shot on location and showed the pre-recession Detroit was interesting. It just gives off the true coldness of the city at the time. I also knew several people who said it was their favorite movie because it played on-repeat on VH1 during the late-00s.
only sardonicast episode where i cant finish it adam has taken a crazy pill with his emilia perez opinions and alex stays weirdly quiet during any discussion about it
Hopefully when they discuss the movie at length they have the courage to speak their opinions and not just nod at everything Adum says. I'm not hating on him, but his dismissiveness and unwillingness to engage with what us mexicans have to say regarding the films feels so off!!
Great new addition! I do still really miss Ralph, hope he makes another appearance soon!
you need to make Jake watch Cool Cat Saves the Kids and Fateful Findings as initiation for being a new Sardonicast host.
I know this was recorded before the surfacing of Gascon's tweets but like... the movie itself is heavily flawed. It's not a bunch of chronically online people dogpiling on the movie for no reason. Adam needs to do more research about the Mexican people AND trans people's perspectives on this movie. It's obvious the director has no respect for the Mexican culture. He said the Spanish language is for poor and underdeveloped countries. There's a line in the movie where a kid is reminded of his father due to his scent, when scent is one of the FIRST things that change during transition. The movie is hyperfocused on genitalia as part of the transgender process, when some trans people don't even get bottom surgery. Emelia is show as an aggressive, violent person only when she reverts back to her "masculine" persona. These are few examples of the MANY MANY things wrong with this movie. This movie is completely misinformed and holds no respect for the communities. It comes off as disingenuous. This isn't a "Sound of Freedom" situation. Adam gets so defensive over his strawman views it's infuriating.

Huge MCT fan so I checked this episode out. I understand the podcast format of a devil’s advocate/contrarian host but I ultimately still tapped out of the podcast because of Adam.

You just aren't on the right channels.
Adam is the only big critic I know who likes Emilia Perez, but rather than defend his opinions or elaborate on them, he's belittering everyone else's. It's coming off as really immature and makes me wonder if he paid attention to the movie. Like, I don't care if he likes the movie, I want to know WHY he does. Give us a window into why it's getting so much accolades. I just hope now that Man Carrying Things is part of the podcast he can persuade Adam into a conversation about it, since he didn't like the movie too.
Did you catch he did s watchalong yesterday night of the movie but I was out eating tacos and beers and when I tried watching the video was gone from RUclips. It's on twitch but it seems it didn't change his mind about the movie and probably he doesn't want the video up on yt cuz he's going to get down voted, dunno. The movie is a reflection of the ignorant racist director and main actress, utter pile of poo.
Ive seen a fair number of reviews on Emilia Perez that are substantial and reasonable. Who are you guys watching or talking to that is giving takes like "movie bad because trans woman in it"? The largest complaint I've seen is that the material is very on-the-nose (the direction, script, and a musical number), some find the way Mexico was depicted as offensive (completely impoverished, crime, nobody is happy), oh... and the Selena Gomez casting decision felt a bit odd (odd casting decision given she was not a native spanish speaker, nor was she Mexican).
Adam also brings up the importance of the trans topic as if that is a valid reason for nomination. Why? I've watched (and loved) his reviews over the years, but to act like this film was not low-effort Oscar bait is absurd. Instead of talking about why people dislike it, give us a reason why you like it (besides the character having a trans identity). Explain why the films is deserving of all these nominations.
Again... I iove YMS, just my two cents.
"This is a very crazy story involving murder, Mexican drug cartels, and sex reassignment surgery, and it is also a musical, and unlike Joshua Oppenheimer's "The End", this actually worked really well as a musical. I was honestly pleasantly surprised the director adapted so flawlessly to the genre. Not only were there tons of great songs in this film-like really catchy songs, like actual bangers-but there's also incredible staging, choreography, editing, lighting, use of space, etc. The songs and the filmmaking both compliment each other super well. There's such excellent use of camera work and location. Every filmmaking element is just so rithmic and filled with expression.
In terms of being a musical, it is honestly super well executed; each of the songs feels distinct, and there's an awesome variety of tone and genre, and the songs the characters are singing actually progress the story. It is a very weird and unique story with complex and watchable characters.
Now that being said, I feel the film should have been shorter. At 2h and 10 minutes long, there were definitely some sections in the middle that felt pretty slow, but overall this was a very fun and engaging movie, with some fantastic shots and sequences, so if this looks interesting to you, check it out, and I'm giving this a 7/10. It's closer to an 8 than a 6." YMS
@@meciocio He doesn't even use his own words, that review is nothing more than meaningless generic film drivel thrown about much like the AI reviews that flood in upon every release day of a picture ("songs feel distinct", "awesome variety of tone/genre", "incredible staging, choreography, editing, lighting, use of space", "Every filmmaking element is just so rithmic and filled with expression" etc.). It is all meaningless.
Let me try to replicate Adam's review: "The film tells a story with a beggining, middle, and end. Transitioning as a Mexican, drug Cartels killing people, violence and murder are all part of this tale.
This is a musical. It was a good adaptation of a musical because the music was good. The director shocked me because there was godly music throughout. All of the songs were good songs which made this movie a good musical adaptation.
The lighting and cinematography complimented the music. There was so much emotion being shown through lighting, camera work, editing, as well as diologue. It all worked seemlessly together.
This was a great musical. The songs had musical notes which were strung together on top of instrumental melodies. The songs are based on what is happening in the movie as an alternate means to the character diologue.
My biggest issue is that the movie was longer than average, which made watching the movie take longer. This made me more tired by the end. Overall Amelia Perez is a thought-provoking and fun with beautiful on-site filming locations. If you are interested in watching a movie with a plot, cinematography, lighting, actors/actresses and a partly Spanish script/songs...give this a watch. 7/10 for being a movie."
@@searsino what does this even mean??
@@meciocio That went over your head? His review was generic and didn't provide any detail analysis of what speicifcally makes the film objectively well-made. Instead he used buzzwords and vague statements which resemble the bot comments production companies flood review sites with upon releasing a film.
His review basically claimed that "the movie was good because it had lighting, cinematography, and a script." Not a single justification was provided for any of the vague claims he made. I would argue the reason for this is because he knows it was a mediocre film at best, which failed in many aspects of what it attempted to convey.
And if you have watched Adam for a long time like I have, you should know that he has a very detailed, nitpicky way of reviewing movies. That in combination with the general concensus of it being an objectively low-tier Netflix original, tells me he has some other reason for saying it was deserving of the nominations which it recieved.
The songs were sung poorly. The content matter was handled in an uninformed manner around trans issues and Mexico (e.g. your past suddenly becomes irrelevant if you transition). The casting was fairly mediocre. Most of them didn't even speak Spanish as a first language which was quite clear. Everything about this was on the nose and in your face.
The movie was not good. He may have enjoyed it (which i doubt) but based on other reviews he has made, Emilia Perez sucked. Maybe in his quickie he can explain specifically what made this so amazing. Who knows.
@@searsino no man, there was no "the movie was good because it had lighting, cinematography, and a script", he said verbatim "there's also *incredible* staging, choreography, lighting". Like i don't understand why are you doing this? 😭
And what Netflix original? This was a FRENCH film released there theatrically by august 2024, and picked by netflix many months later. This is how you know for certainity you are talking to an american, because of the americentrism an usdefaultism they blatantly display.
The songs were sung poorly? Well he liked the songs he thought they were sung pretty awesome. I still don't understand what exactly we are doing right now 😭
Glad to see Ralph finally returned the podcast! The voice changer is an interesting choice for this character he’s doing, but it’s good to see him back nevertheless
YAHOO! HE’S HERE TO STAY!
Why is Adum so deranged about Conclave, it's a fine little thriller, I don't think it's possible to have strong feelings about it.
It's because it's about the catholic church. Like when he was instantly dismissive about the prince of Egypt because he kept rambling it was catholic propaganda and he didn't even pay attention to it.
Missed opportunity for that “One shot” comment on Kraven to transition to the 8 Mile conversation.
Adam lost all judgement with Emilia Perez its crazy
have you watched it?
@@Nairolf0007yeah, its ass lmao
He believes himself to be impartial regarding the discourse but also wants to have this vague opinion on it without really discussing anything about it lmao.
He said he liked the cinematography so I assume he decided to ignore the shit songs, plot, characters, and themes which I suppose is a thing he's entitled to do.
@@Nairolf0007 Unfortunately yes. Almost nothing about it works other than some of the acting. It fails as a musical, being that the songs all sound like a high schooler wrote a first draft and figured that was good enough. It fails as a trans movie, being that the representation is piss poor. It’s trash in every sense of the word.
Adum's cartoon head needs to be updated with his new look.

So glad they got mancarryingthemoviemaker for the podcast
If I had a nickel for every time Russell Crowe was in a movie set in a cinematic universe that ended up being the last of that universe, I’d have two nickels.
Wait, what's the other one apart from The Mummy? I'm blanking.
@ Kraven is the last movie of the Sony Spider-Man Universe.
@ Oh, God, yeah. Clearly, a very memorable movie!
@@luiginastro8831 its literally the movie they’re talking about this episode 😩

I love how a lot of comments brought up how great of a third host Jake would be, and here we are! Sometimes the people do get what they want! Welcome to the depraved Sardonicast community Jake, we're happy to have you 🫡
(Also it's crazy how much Jake sounds like Ralph, all he needs is a strong New York accent and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference!)
Having someone who reads a book as a co-host is probably a good idea. Welcome, guy holding stuff
Took me a second to process the new host thing but oh my god WINNING
I've never seen such universal approval of a new host for a long running show. I'm very surprised but I feel the same, he seems great!
I'll always miss Ralph.
This is great! i listened to jake and this podcast for a few years separately. Amazing to see them come together!
1:53:51 there is a 2017 movie called "Bodied" that was produced by Eminem, that is pretty much two hours of rap battles.
Congrats to Jake on becoming the new host! He fits in so well with the podcast. Now we need a kaylasays feature now that Jake has also seen Emilia Perez so they can get to the nitty gritty with Adam
Sorry Adam I thought Crash, Green Book and Maestro were better than Emilia Perez🤷♂️ Not saying they were great but were better than EP
As Dwayne said the hierarchy has fundamentally changed.
This is a new era, and in hype, love ManCarryThings skits
Thats an awfully hot coffee pot, can this man carry thing, probably not
“Ralph” FNALLY fixed his shitty Connection, we can him so clearly now. He sound’s a lot different though🤔
Their first official episode new host is about the Oscar noms same way the very first episode was about Oscar Noms. Full circle.
Adam's noise at the start made me think it was an impression of The Substance lmao
Just know Adam, I laughed at the pause for Porno joke.
yay, I'm delighted by the new host choice
