- Janae Edmondson took the witness stand Thursday morning. Janae recounted her father tying a belt tightly around her legs while her mother held her face and told her, "Don't close your eyes. You have to stay awake." She kept repeating those words back to herself when she was taken away in an ambulance without her parents, and she said her eyes were open all the way to the hospital.

Still graduated, regained her ability to drive, still went to college and is still participating in her sport. I am so very proud. Keep up the good work.

Awesome to hear her continue on. Not in her original dream of playing college volleyball & lost that scholarship because of Daniel Riley's actions. As a retired critical care nurse, I can tell you that what she endured & suffered was widely "understated"! She is a remarkable young woman and I hope she continues to reach her goals & dreams & they turn out even better than she ever thought possible!
That doesnt not diminish her lifelong pain .

I am a wound care nurse. What this young lady endured just from a wound care standpoint was horribly painful. She definitely downplayed the physical, psychological and emotional trauma she has gone through. I wish her the best.

She played for my husband and this devastated the community. It was horrible and he should never get out of prison. She is one of the strongest young ladies that I know. So sad but she is a fighter.
I had a similar wound. Pn my foot amd hand and lost a few fingers. And. It is very difficult especially to get the dampness correct or dry or wet. It's super hard. And you basically have to treat it yourself and tell the nurse.
@@scottykingdavid and our hands are tied when insurance will only cover 2-3 visits a week when a patient still needs daily wound care; if they are 100% dependent upon others for their care, they we **might** get approval for more. So here we're are, the professionals, trying to teach someone how to care for their wound while they are still processing their traumatic event. I had a patient who had a significant, life altering event while pregnant. Not only did she have the amputation to deal with, but also a premature baby that had to be immediately delivered and 2 other kids at home. On top of it all, she had to do it alone as her partner was in another country and not able to get back to her.

That careless bastard should have been back in jail way before this happened. He had already violated the condition of his bail a hundred times. Then he was on house arrest and violated that too smdh. The district attorney and the judge failed this baby. Prayers for strength, emotions, physical, and mental health 🙏🙏🙏🙏.
This is the first time I hear about this case. So many cases happening where young people get hurt and/or killed. Can you explain this case to me?
The Judge and prosecutor should be held accountable just as this piece of garbage! Both the judge and prosecutor should serve prison sentences! It’s their fault this trash was back on the streets to harm people over and over ! The judicial system is a joke! Law enforcement isn’t any better.

This poor girl 😢😢 what a traumatic experience! A friend of mine was run over by a semi truck & lost both his legs. He experienced a lot of depression after the accident. But I promise things will get better! He has 2 prosthetic legs & is able to walk again. And he got married to a beautiful woman and has 2 wonderful children. But understandably it was a long road to get to that point. Unfortunately it's a long hard & painful process. But I promise you will come out on top! You have a strong support system & you are beautiful inside & out!! And your strength is to be admired. But Justice is necessary for your healing! ❤❤❤❤ sending love & support!! Yes I'm from Pittsfield Massachusetts back in 1997 a woman was hit by a dump truck in the crosswalk zone right in front of the courthouse in Pittsfield Mass she herself lost both legs she also survived the accident losing both legs what a traumatic experience even though she received $4 million dollars not enough to replace your legs. Dump truck driver didn't even see her at least that's what he said.
I lost one finger and phantom pain is absolutely horrible. I cant imagine for this young lady. Many prayers.

@@kerriarickards8508no, but Chinese reflexology can show you where to touch to alleviate the feeling/pain. I was amputated in 2000 and this saved my sanity.

@@kerriarickards8508I believe it's a psychological thing. Years ago they did nothing for it, but I'm gonna do a little googling and see if they have new ways of dealing with it. Been out of that field for a while but the human body is a amazing and mysterious thing.

The mental impact from living as an athlete doing what you love to being forced to a wheel chair is unimaginable.. She needs all the support available.
I hope she gets involved with adaptive sports. I play wheelchair basketball and its a big confidence builder.

I have an 18 yr old daughter and this strikes a chord with me, that poor girl, her mom and dad are probably also traumatized, I hope they’re all in therapy as this is absolutely life changing for all of them. How awful for her to experience so much pain, an innocent girl just starting life. She is so much stronger than she realizes, having went thru this- I hope she finds a way to persevere and live a life she loves.

As a mother of a daughter who does travel volleyball, this was such a devastating thing for them whole community. The sentiments of the love that went out to her was heartwarming. This young lady was already committed to play in college. So sad. What a strong and beautiful young lady she is.

As an amputee myself, her recovery is going to be very long and painful, she is strong and will make it . I hope that when she gets her prosthetic's that she will not only walk but run also. Have faith, courage and determination you will be fine. God bless
What strength & courage this beautiful young lady has! So very sorry she had to go thru this. Although different types of accidents, I would encourage her to look up Joni Earickson Tada online. She is a 74 yr old quadriplegic who had a diving accident at 17 yrs old. She is a very strong Christian who has been on tv, best-selling author & she is a disabilities advocate. Prayers for you young lady……God is still writing your story & LOVES you & understands your pain!! He had the whole entire WORLD’S sins on Him so He died for us all!! 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️

For those who don't know what the outcome of this horrific ordeal was... the defendant Daniel Riley was found guilty on all but one count: "second-degree assault, armed criminal action, & operating a vehicle without a valid license." He was out on bond at the time of the crash in a pending robbery case, even though he had violated the conditions of his release many times." He sped through caution signs when another driver crashed into him. Riley's car pin this beautiful girl between his car & a parked car. It was proven that the other driver wasn't at fault bc they had no time to react to Riley running right through the caution signs. I'm wondering if there's going to be a civil suit to pay for whatever ins didn't cover plus her trauma, pain & suffering, not to mention any future surgeries she may have to undergo. What Janae has been able to accomplish in the aftermath is nothing short of amazing. I wish her nothing, but happiness & good health.

I have seen the excruciating pain that comes with wound care, even with strong IV push pain medications. My heart goes out to you and your family. She will in the lawsuit with the city. City of Saint Louis had an incompetent circuit attorney at the time who never bothered to filed warrant against the driver of the car. Daniel Riley was on house arrest, over 100 bond violations and didn't have a driver's license. Her lawyers will take the city to the cleaners.

I was just going to say what a beautiful young girl ! I bet she was a good volleyball player , Lotsa fun & a valuable team mate ! I want to tell her that she's not alone & there's more life ahead for her ! So many ppl who don't know her care about her . I do. I feel so much compassion & empathy for what this kid endured ! And her parents !! And I feel for her ,what must be so much pain,both physical & mental . I would like to tell her that I think it's quite likely she can learn to walk again with prosthetics ! I saw a documentary where a young woman did just that ! She can do so much still . I hope she knows that !

OMG! I could not even watch it it all, to upsetting. Very glad you are still alive Janae, I know people with limited mobility like you and they have gone on to have long happy lives surrounded by friends and family. I know what you have been through is hard. You are so beautiful and courageous. I haven't been through what you been through, but something so traumatic it took a lot of my life away. I can tell you that it's healing picking up your pain and using it to help others. As hard as it was forging was responsible for me moving on with my life. You're forgiving for yourself. Your saying"I'm not going to let you(that) control my life. When you are ready. It took or almost destroyed me reliving it daily. I saw progress when I forgave that person. Whatever happened to me doesn't control me and my life. God is the reason I'm here today. Don't hesitate to look up to him in your time of need..

Janae is such a pillar of strength, the amount of pain she has endured at such a young age, her life has forever changed. I recently suffered 2nd and third degree burns to 20% of my body and the intense pain is next level, I never thought I could feel this much pain. That is just a fraction of what beautiful Janae has had to endure. For her to stay awake is un fathomable, she definitely down played her pain, to go from when it happened to when we see her now is just so much agony. I wish only the best for her and her future, you can see she is a survivor. All the best, lots of love and peace 🙏🏼💗
