    It's not that bomb has terrible dps, it's that bosses only take one damage per hit during the phase change, so things that hit rapidly like fighter and spear do a lot more damage there.

    Death count: 14 (5 today)
    (0:34) Perhaps you should've done a sliding kick there instead. RIP Hammer.
    (1:00) Yeah, that is a blind drop onto lava when you're used to the railboat falling safely onto another rail below.
    (3:27) It's a race situation with the Kurukuru Kururin bar again.
    (3:59) Really, the guy despawned? So, you can't get too far ahead, apparently.
    (4:03) First death today.
    (4:25) Ohhh, so that's what happened. Looking back, the guy probably died to the fireball at about 3:52.
    (4:59) RIP the baton. Wow, this is rough.
    (5:38) Success! And, that was all for a silver keychain and some stars. D'oh.
    (6:30) Aw, nuts! Welp, time for yet another sacrifice.
    (6:41) Yeah, having a reset door here would've been really nice.
    (6:53) Well, there are many optional puzzle rooms that you can just exit and enter again to get another chance. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.
    (7:02) Chipmunk time.
    (7:32) Success!
    (8:13) I always like how the tongue slides as you tilt this thing the other way.
    (10:02) It's the advancing wall of doom again!
    (11:32) Splat. RIP Archer.
    (13:28) Alright, it's mid-boss time, vs. Grand Wheelie DX!
    (14:31) Narrow victory!
    (15:05) Yet another whiff.
    (16:40) Alright, it's boss time, vs. Pyribbit!
    (18:18) 50% damage. Time for phase 2.
    (20:05) Squish. Pyribbit gets 200 points for that Goomba stomp. :P
    (20:40) Alright, it's rematch time!
    (21:01) Slurped up. I don't know why you decided to go near him there.
    (22:20) Maybe you have to fly over the shorter ones during that pattern?
    (24:49) Burnt-toast victory!
    (25:56) And with that, we've now spelled FLOWER. But, will the unseen world 7 be an S for FLOWERS or a Y for FLOWERY? Or, something else? I'm voting for Z to make FLOWERZ myself, just to be fancy. :P

    The block ability would've made you immune to all of Grand Weelie's damage I believe by just having the Ice ability, similar to Leaf
    Also the reason for the tiny amounts of damage on Pyribbit is because the boss temporairly gains armor when transitioning to phase 2.

    Honestly, yeah, ever since they changed Bomb's hat and whole aesthetic from "poppy bros" to "fireworks" I've felt like it's not only become way less fun, but also significantly less powerful. The manual hold-aiming is just way too slow, the explosions feel wimpy, it doesn't do enough damage... I think Super Star was peak Bomb Kirby, the aiming was wonderfully quick

    • @tepig2828
      @tepig2828 3 месяца назад +2

      Yeah, bomb has definitely become more of an ability for puzzles instead of combat. The bomb puzzles in recent games are pretty cool, but wow is the ability tedious to use in combat.

    Honestly from my memories of playing the game on hardware the gyro controls felt pretty fun and natural, if occasionally imprecise. The important thing to remember, I think, is that missing a shot on these archery segments was a few seconds lost, rather than whatever kind of unholy surgery you are performing here with each attempt.

    Stars spawned by bosses usually do more damage per hit than copy abilities to compensate for being able to use them less frequently; in general Kirby games try to balance both methods of fighting the bosses so one isn't considerably easier or faster than the other for more casual players.
    And as someone else said, it's less that bombs are particularly weak and more that bosses take a lot less damage during their phase change animation. I think that was the case in RtDL as well but it wasn't anywhere near as pronounced as it is in this game, and then Robobot found a solid middle ground between the two.

    • @LazyMaybe
      @LazyMaybe 3 месяца назад +1

      "it's less that bombs are particularly weak and more that bosses take a lot less damage during their phase change animation."
      Right, but he was also hitting the boss during the phase transition with fighter and the damage was much higher.

    • @Rixitic
      @Rixitic 3 месяца назад +4

      @@LazyMaybe This is all speculation, but fighter is most likely balanced to do more damage with the melee attacks than other copy abilities' attacks since they require close range. And I'd need to rewatch the fight, but raocow was also doing rapid chip damage with the Vulcan Jab move during the phase transition, right? Compared to just throwing bombs from a distance during the first attempt.
      It's possible the phase transition buff is applied by subtracting damage values with a hard minimum instead of dividing them, and that'd result in the bombs being nerfed considerably more than the Vulcan Jab, which would've been much closer to that minimum per hit already... or damage is just a fraction of its usual amount and the attack is just that much stronger for the first reason I mentioned.
      In any case, I wasn't trying to argue that bomb is equally as strong as fighter, just that it's not _pathetically_ weak like the impression raocow seemed to get. It probably doesn't have the greatest DPS among all the copy abilities, but it still seems like a decent choice. Just, one that doesn't feel as great to control for raocow due to having more... committed animations? There's a technical term and I'm blanking on it atm.

    This is by far my least favorite boss of the game. It spends way too much time in the background, where you can't hit it, and that makes the fight take forever. He's especially annoying in the arena because of this.
    Bomb's strength is its area of affect, making it great for dealing with multiple enemies at once. This doesn't really translate well for bosses.

  • @Baxdronn4
    @Baxdronn4 3 месяца назад +2

    Pyribbit is a personal nemesis of mine. In Arena runs, this was always the first place where excessive damage was really hard to avoid while trying to go fast. And yeah, bomb isn't my favorite in this game, though my ever-present bias towards Hammer makes most abilities less appetizing, heheh.

    A few thoughts about recurring issues...
    1) Gyro and other motion controls: when I played Mario Galaxy 2 alongside you, I had great success using my Dualshock 4 controller for its motion controls - I didn't even have to set up anything, Dolphin just automatically made it work. I wonder if that wouldn't be a solution for any games in the future that need it? They should be reasonably cheap at this point too, or a good gift
    2) You're right that you are overly aggressive with bosses. So, have you ever considered that for Kirby bosses especially that insisting on using Powers is biting you there? Because if you only relied on boss stars, you'd naturally have to play reactive. And you've seen today how much damage they do; often, the bosses really aren't any harder with them. Maybe that's an idea next time you struggle?
    3) Didn't play this game, but for the "undodgeable" fire columns, weren't they offset from each other in the depth plane? 3DS moment imo: you were supposed to weave in between them

    • @EvilMariobot
      @EvilMariobot 3 месяца назад

      3) Is no one but SomeGuy noticing how much shorter they are; and you just fly over them?

  • @ThePokefan116
    @ThePokefan116 3 месяца назад +1

    raocow going hard to solve the Key Dee puzzle(yes, they're officially a type of Waddle Dee, originally known as Carry Dee in RtDL's internal data, and Wonkey, a portmanteau of Waddle Dee and monkey, or wonky and Key, in the JP version's data) only for it to be a regular keychain and two stars is a bit of silliness. And it wasn't even the end of the room!
    Also, of course we'd get some Haldera Volcano for the lava-centric EX stage~
    And then segue into The Birthplace of Steel for the sludge spike wall and panel sections~
    Besides I think modern Kirby slightly lowering Bomb's power, in this game in particular, its throwing rate is decreased due to the existence of the Kirby Fighters sub game. Having said that, if I'm using Bomb for offense, I definitely prefer spamming Bomb Bowl(the dash attack) over other attacks.
    Ice Sprinkle is good DPS, but having to get so close to the mini-boss or boss to use it makes it a bit risky.
    Guarding is pretty good, although some attacks bypass it, and you do get chipped by strong attacks. If I'm confident, I prefer using I-frames on certain abilities over guarding, but if I'm not, I'll guard(and dodge, but I definitely prefer Kirby's dodge in Forgotten Land and all of its Bayonetta Witch Time shenanigans).
    An interesting touch is that any Keychain for a character that exists in a Kirby game that didn't use sprites will have a custom sprite made for them, as seen with Yin-Yarn.
    THIS GUY. Pyribbit is a decently tough boss who makes heavy use of this game being on the 3DS, but he also just is annoying for how often he hides out in the background, making it rough to beat him reasonably. And now you add the time limit and the concept of Platinum Medals for beating him quickly and efficiently in the Kirby Clash games, and I get a bit heated seeing this dumb frog.
    When a boss falls to half HP and hits their enrage to start Phase 2 of the fight, their defense gets cranked up to levels where even some of the strongest attacks in the game do essentially chip damage to prevent you from killing them too quickly. This is a change from RtDL where the enrage made the bosses completely invincible.
    The lava pillars always leave a gap, which is of course easier to see with 3D turned on, and if they're low to the ground, you can just fly over them, but you've gotta be quick!
    I will never not enjoy Pyribbit getting crushed when you beat him. It pleases me.
    Next Time: Onto the Royal Road, the ominous citadel in the sky!

    To answer your question, actual Gyro controls for this game were pretty good and to alleviate your confusion with the Froog, your supposed to swerve behind the lava face in pseudo 3d after it crosses the layer your on but before the next one comes for you.

    A think bosses in general when they're in their "OH YOU DONE MADE ME MAAAAD NOW!" state just before they transition to phase 2 just take way less damage. But yeah, bomb is just kinda...not that impactful? It's weird. You'd think it'd do a lot of damage or something but not really. You were better off as Ryo Sakazaki there.
    Also that one lava waves move is another case of the 3ds' 3dness being expected to be turned on to help tell where something is. There IS a gap between the waves with faces, just kinda tiny.
    Next time, we storm a castle. With quite a few stages to it too.

      Bombs are much better as explosives than as throwing stars, so you want to hit with the splash damage instead of the bomb itself.

    So, the big thing to note about Bomb is that the explosion does _significantly_ more damage than the cartoon bomb ball itself. So, if you want to use it, you want to try to rely on the fireworks.

    The downside with the Ice ability is that the Ice Sprinkle (midair attack) and the Ice Storm (the dash attack) make it so you get dangerously close to bosses. This ability is fine when you are in a level where you can freeze enemies, but with a miniboss it's easy to get hit.
    Bomb will be risky for a boss who moves around a ton. It's good against Whispy Woods, who is stuck in place, but when a boss moves around a lot (and you want to move around a lot) it's risky.

    @description: No, Bomb is... woefully underpowered from what one would expect from high explosives.
    6:41-7:02 Nintendo typically designs these things for people who just want to play the levels and worry about collectibles and bonus content later.
    9:09 It's leagues better on hardware than whatever jank you've got set up. Really, it's just a matter of tilting the 3DS and it doesn't affect your grip in the slightest.
    12:10 You keep releasing your power toward the enemy you want to eat...
    16:06 Wheel is suicide on bosses in this game. The next game... surprisingly the opposite.
    18:28 Actually, bosses do take chip damage between phases. You can tell from the lifebar flashing.
    22:21 FLY, YOU FOOL!!!
    24:56 Well, he deserved it. Most people... not a fan of this guy.
    25:12-25:26 It's all about knowing what moves "commit" you to the actions and how long it takes to regain control. That way, you can plan your moves around the enemies'. (Also, remembering that dash attacks are a thing.)
