This game originated in the early popularity of the zombie theme and survived this period. I've been tired of the survival genre for a long time, but this game stuck in my heart.

I've been playing this since 2011, since the Desura days on that original tiny map. Zombies spawned at the park at the center. You basically tried to stock up on all the food on the map, then you could survive for maybe a month.
A bit later they added the ability to make wooden walls, which meant you could cut off entry points to make your safehouse much safer. The eastern house south east to the starting house were a good location. Then they expanded the map quite a bit and added NPC's. The NPC's were absolute psycho. Some would shoot you on sight. This made NPC's more of an annoyance so they removed them.
The most key additions imo were:
Remade bigger map: Starting with Muldraugh. Even just with Muldraugh, the map felt huge. Exploration and looting is the most important part of Zomboid, so it's important that you keep having new areas to explore.
Farming: This meant that you could survive for as long as possible, although it removed some of the tension. Right now I'm playing a challenge where renewable food sources are banned, which adds more urgency and incentive to explore.
Cars: Especially after expanding the map, having a car felt really nice, and the car mechanics and customization system is great.
Build 41 animations and graphics: The refined temperature and wetness system are great. The new animations, especially the rain effects makes the game feel more alive.

Good ole build 38, before cars, but sleep events and multi hit were toggled on. It felt really good to stagger like 4 zeds at once and you did less damage back then. There was no "slowly turn and notice you" animation for zombies, so when they heard you they would instantly spin around, it was the scariest thing. They also recovered almost instantly. It's hard to describe sleep events with words, very polarizing mechanic, probably better off with it turned off.

I am going to start a help group soon I think, because this game is my new addiction and it's hard to handle! Man I started playing at the right time it looks like! Build 41.53 is AMAZING. I modded the game quite a bit and it is phenomenal with other survivors in single player. I cannot believe the depth and details in this! Loving it! I haven't been hooked like this for years. A TOTAL GEM!

I've been with the game since about 2017 and it fills me with so much joy seeing how much this game has grown even just since then. Already this is probably about my favorite game out there... And knowing that the NPC update is around the corner which if done right is going to push this into god game territories for me.

  • @AnimatingDreams

God this makes me so nostalgic! The old map, the NPC's feature, everything.

so there are less features, its the same gameplay, but character models look better. great success...
also the build 41 footage is from a modded area called raven creek. but the devs have done next to nothing with the map. just small patch work.

Less features? Do you have any idea how much time it took on the animations of both characters' and zombies' animations? Like bruh. I've been playing it from build 29 and when I played build 41 for the first time, it felt like it was a new game

    • @llamerr
      @llamerr 3 года назад +1

@@thuglifebmgo1732 I don't care about animations. For me these years was just wasted time. And actually they just broke controls - new ones just sucks, so I can no longer play it. I bought old game and liked it. New one is unplayable, wish I could do a refund.

I remember buying Zomboid when one of the dev's started posting about it on Facepunch back in like 2011, and I remember it changing so much in the few years after. Just a few days ago I learned about the build 41 stuff and have been having a crazy good time playing it again, it's so different but it's just as fun

Seeing the start to now is honestly insane.
Seeing games from the start to even the official launch often nothing changes than typical graphics stability and content.
This is like straight up looking at evolution of a game in progress. They seriously put everything they had and passion into this game. It's honestly amazing that they never stopped.
Though, Not Going to Lie. Kinda miss their Pixel look, even filtered. Had a charm to it honestly.
Also what's the Soundtrack you used on 2:28, absolutely love the tracks melancholy horror rhythm it got going.

I dont care what anyone says this game is a labor of love and deserves as much praise as it gets. I've played since the earliest versions and I've been around to watch this game go from a fun little novelty zombie apocalypse game, to being a full fledged zombie sim. One of maybe 3 or four early access games I've bought that actually ended up being almost a full fleged game. I hope when they finish this game it gets all the praise in the world.
