Remember his supervisor and lieutenant said its not department policy to put a knee on someone's neck.
Yes, they were told to lie by those higher up.

Chauvin was taught the position he had floyd in, youre just plain wrong. It is what he was trained to do.
@@shansen008 It shows you the integrity of some of our police departments, and courts. They would rather throw an employee under the buss to bow down to kiss the feet of an unruly mob than to stand up for their fellow officers.
I'm just stating what the jury should take note, whether or not it will give conviction or not is not in my place to decide but it is interesting to state that after Floyd's death they began to change their tune on what is excessive force.
FYI for most witnesses playback speed of 1.25 or 1.5 makes for better listening.

Ah...now I get it... Chauvin missed the day they covered de-escalation practices in the annual training review. But ....EVERY year?
Let’s just be real honest ... after viewing all of the footage from the witnesses and body cam footage from the ex officers it’s completely clear ( to me ) Chauvin nor the other officers cared at all for George Floyd’s life . All 4 should be charged for his murder . They never saw Floyd as a human being and that’s completely disgusting .

"I knelt on his neck for over 8 minutes because everyone was distracting me by telling me to get off his neck" --- "I was so afraid of the crowd that I casually knelt down on an already subdued suspect and started daydreaming" .... This defense is very bad.
"with my hands in my pocket and a cavalier look on my face, the suspect offered no resistance and passed away while I had him subdued in the prone handcuffed position where his diaphragm collapsed under my weight"
The man said he couldn't breath many times, he clearly was having a panic attack when they tried to force him in the squad car with his hands cuffed behind his back. They should have let him calm down first while offering him some kind words.
You haven't paid attention... he was not casually on his neck. They are allowed to use reasonable force and Floyd was acting mighty crazy before they got him down. You walk away for a second and he could be back at it in full force. The guy is huge.

I noticed that too why?
Because what started as a traffic stop turned into a much bigger thing. Driving while under the influence of DRUGS.
So when the cops realized they'd likely be blackmailed (pun intended) later on for doing their civic duty, they turned them on to prove their innocence.
I remember hearing the Sargeant telling Chauvin to turn his off...maybe he instructed the other involved officers to do so as well
@@DelinquentDemon They're supposed to turn it on for any interaction with a citizen/citizens, including every single traffic stop (which this wasn't, it was about a counterfeit bill), per MPD policy

@John Taylor When lying on your chest while handcuffed restricts the breathing. LT. Also LT stated Once handcuff you have to get them out of prone position, roll them to the side or sit them upwards.
Defense goes eerily quiet. Also LT stated out of 30 years he never been taught to put a knee on the neck. He states its considered abuse use of force top tier because it can cause death.

When did being a witness or recording become a threat to a public servant?.
When they start making assumptions and shouting obscenities in a threatening manner.
When there is something to hide, alter, plant, change, manipulate to avoid corroboration of evidence and truth.
As soon as they say things like, "how would you like it if someone killed you!", to a public servant.
Such as "check his pulse"? Their assumptions were correct and the police used excessive force that at least contributed to Floyd's death.
I only ever had 2 questions.
1: why did the paramedics not deal with Floyd immediately. The answer was not really good enough, and I thought they were rather inadequate in their response.
2: why did chauvin still keep restraining when he was clearly unresponsive, and why were the handcuffs not removed before or at the moment the emergency services arrived..why did chauvin have to be asked to move out of the way.
They said that the crowd was upset and it wasn't an ideal place to administer treatment. The equipment to administer the type of treatment needed was in the back of the ambulance. Once they loaded him up one paramedic and the police officers began treatment while the other paramedic moved thw ambulance to a different location.
They were worried he would wake up.

He was not only handcuffed, but unconscious! The defense attorney insinuating he could have been revived and become more combative as an argument for why he should be kept unconscious is just... beyond.

Thank you prosecution. I was waiting for someone to point out that officers are trained to deal with "stressful situations" or in this case a semi large nonviolent crowd.

The judge has to be the crankiest I may have seen in such a high profile case. It’s bordering on him biasing the jury with all his lectures.
He's a strict judge and an old school one. He's doing a great job of keeping his court room in control. This is how judges should behave.

Come on he was barely moving after 2 or 3 minutes. Hardly a fight for your life especially with FOUR officers in total.
That's not what the Attorney said, he was generally speaking regarding the MPD training manual. There was not 4 officers there the entire time. The first 2 officers called for backup when they could not control Floyd. The business videos show Floyd fighting the officers and, complaining he could not breath before Chauvin ever got on scene.

@Brenda R no one else was high and that doesn't explain remaining to apply lethal force when someone is limp. The seargents and supervisors of Chauvin can't even understand or stand by Chauvins decisions that day. No one gets it because it was excessive. When something is beyond wrong then yes, people should speak up. Even then, they all maintained pretty decent composure considering they were witnessing a long drawn out murder. Chauvins was fired and taken into custody because thorough investigation, by law enforcement, found his actions to be rogue (meaning against rules and training). That is the real conversation being had here. Easy to see Chauvin being a murderer and even at one point smiling about it as the crowd watched in horror and distress.

The "crowd" was a group of people, including a couple of children, who spent most of the time recording what they were witnessing.
On the curb closest there was about 15 people. Across the street was tens of more people and across the intersection there was quite a bit more. You just can't see it in most of the footage bc they're angled.
You must have tons of experience dealing with hostile crowds. In Iraq we would have shot them for not getting back 👍 it's time for American police to start doing the same thing, force you f****** to start respecting them.

It does not take a rocket scientist, to know that they just had to hold the guy and talk to him and calm him down. High, drunk, or sober he was still coherent enough to be calmed down. When the first person pointed out that the guys knee was on his neck two ppl could have had him on the ground safely with the other talking to him to calm him down.

The problem is that when u swallow the evidence of the drug deal u had just done it’s likely going to kick in within minutes. A series of very unfortunate yet predictable events.

I'm talking about crimes that are heinous (with clear evidence) and lawyers don't mind representing them and maybe even stretching the truth to get them a lighter sentence (because $). Look, this is a tragedy any way you look at it, but murder it is not.
Each juror will be overloaded with evidence for and against. This is an example of how defenders & prosecutors compete for relevance, not justice.
Our legal system is based on advocacy. We have an adversary system. The goal is to pit sides against each other and see who can create the most compelling argument. Contrast that with Britain and many other countries, where the goal of their system is to seek the truth of what happened. It creates a totally different dynamic.

i don't remember the last time i watched a court case but one thing i noticed about chauvin's attorney he is good at leading a witness in the exact direction he wants them to go during questioning using tact, he also keeps the questions one after another so you don't have time to think about your last answer and realize where he is leading you

Like the videos from different angles that shows Chauvins knee on George Floyd's back rather than neck as it looked like from the viral video? Is that what you're referring to? In his autopsy there was no bruising on Floyd's neck. And certainly no evidence of any problems with air circulation.

You need to watch some videos about that on YT. Recently in the news, aprisoner got out of his cuffs, has a knack for it. He murdered the prison guard. Why resist if you don't intend on doing something when you are freed up?

@@gregg4750 There were many guards around. Again, watch some prison stories or cop arrests where they end up dead. All criminals can play dirty and have the element of surprise. Not so for all cops. They can not let their guard down. GF broke the law, had a violent history, kept resisting arrest. He was bigger than all those cops. He was in control of himself until by his own actions he handed the control over to DC. The family received compensation. They don't need a pound of flesh, too.

The testimony given by Lt. Richard Zimmerman, is all that the jury needs to know. If anyone needed more proof, that was very damning evidence

• When a subject is prone causing their stomach to press up to their ribs. The following are factors that have been shown to contribute to this phenomenon:
• Subject’s body position results in partial or complete airway constriction.
• Alcohol or drug intoxication (the major risk factor).
• Subject’s inability to escape from a particular position.
• The subject is prone.
• Obesity (particularly those with large stomachs/abdomens).
• Restraints.
• Stress.
• Respiratory muscle fatigue following violent muscular activity (such as fighting,
struggling or running away).
• Pressure applied to the back of the neck, torso or abdomen of a subject held in the
prone position.
• Pressure applied restricting the shoulder girdle or accessory muscles of
respiration while the person is lying down in any position.
• Persons in an excitable condition or exhibiting bizarre behaviour.
NB. Police officers should be mindful of the risks involved in using their bodyweight
on the upper body of a subject during restraint. The prone position should be
avoided if at all possible, or the period for which it is used minimised.
Signs and Symptoms
E10 Police officers should pay close attention when they recognize the following signs and
symptoms, taking immediate action to remedy them, and apply emergency aid:
• Body position restricted to prone, face down.
• Cyanosis (face is discoloured blue due to lack of oxygen).
• Gurgling, gasping sounds.
• A subject’s behaviour suddenly changes from ‘active’ to ‘passive’ i.e. from loud and
violent to quiet and tranquil.
• Panic.
• Subject tells the police officer that they cannot breathe.

1:13:00 they go over the use of force policy continuum levels. The first level presence in uniform, second level using your words, third level soft technique such as escorting by their arm. Fourth level hard technique such as using mace. Top level is deadly force. He confirms it’s relative to the threat. He explains clearly that he was not trained to kneel on someone’s neck when they are already in handcuffs, he also explains that kneeling on the neck is deadly force...

@@ytjk5633 This ISN’T true. He definitely died from the knee of his neck. It has nothing to do with whatever was in this system. He was breathing fine, mobilising fine nothing was abnormal regarding him be able to function. His death resulted from the lack of oxygen. Brain cells are very sensitive to a lack of oxygen. Some brain cells start dying less than 5 minutes after their oxygen supply disappears. As a result, brain hypoxia can rapidly cause severe brain damage or death

They had already called for paramedic help, the problem would appear to be , why they did not administer aid, and how long the paramedics took to come .

ALL 3 police officers knew George Floyd was dead when his body became limp beneath them, yet they continued to stay on top of him for at least 3-4 minutes after that. Especially the officer on Floyd's back - he could tell Floyd was no longer breathing because Floyd's chest stopped raising and falling entirely.
Police arrest the guilty and floyd is poster boy for the guilty - check has long, long criminal record and LOVES taking illegal drugs.

If you watch footage of the Nicole Nachtmann trial she sat at a desk and wore headphones during sidebars. In the Jimmie Rodgers trial he would accompany the attorneys during the sidebars; he looked like a little kid trying to act tough by hanging out with the bigger boys at school.

EVEN IF the drugs in Floyd’s system were wreaking havoc in his body just at the time of the arrest, the knee to the neck for that unnecessary length of time vs a reasonably shorter period could have conceivably made the difference between life and death! He had opiates for pain relief , that many people take . . There’s also a video of Chauvin grinding his knee on George Floyd’s neck . The length of time was deliberate imo .
Given the amount of fentanyl in his system, Floyd was a dead man walking minutes before Chauvin even showed up at the scene.

Google the autopsy, read it. Go look up the lethal dose of fentanyl in ng/ml. Now compare those numbers. He was dead no matter what. As an added bonus there was meth in his system as well. A knee on the neck didn’t help, but it’s definitely not what dropped the axe.
Regardless of the autopsy (in science there are always nonzero probabilities of error and exceptions), the officer was negligent IMO simply due to, as I said, the excessive length of time the force was used. E.g. If he used the same intensity/duration on someone who had a heart condition the stress of the situation could conceivably cause a significant medical event. Of course maybe he would be omniscient and know a suspect had a heart condition ahead of time and therefore be more gentle. Reckless IMO.

Officers there are trained to pin people down that they believe are intoxicated and dangerous (which he was) until paramedics arrive since any other methods are deemed too risky in case you were wondering.

Homicide isn't routinely called out immediately every time a person dies; especially a drug addict. So they were totally aware that it wasn't drugs that killed George Floyd.

This crime scene witness, investigating officer in charge was giving a true account and spoke very well where the lay person can follow and understand.
Chauvin knelt on his neck for over 8 minutes, over 480 seconds that's quite a long time to determine officers were not in danger. George was the only one in danger while laying in a prone position.

That was one of the key part of his testimony yesterday. The prosecutor is going after every evidence where Chauvin did not follow their safety policy.

One thing I noticed about the defence argument is, on the one hand the police willingly confront danger on our behalf and yet, on the other, are to be so concerned for their own personal safety that the superseding priority is always to get home at the end of the day (or shift) without so much as a chipped nail.

What is the argument for why Floyd needed to be detained in the first place? I once worked as a teller and we never had someone arrested for a "single" counterfeit bill. Mainly, because most people aren't aware they have one. And even if they are aware of it, they tend to be upset and at worst try to pass their loss over to someone else, like a store clerk. In short no one should have been arrested in the first place. They had all of the identification they needed of this man to deal with him further if needed at a later date. He should have been allowed to go home after being cited. There was NO reason to put him into a police car. The most that should have happened is the bill be confiscated and replaced with a real $20 bill. Chauvin wasn't even the initial officer called. Why is it the backup always walks in and makes crap worse! Especially, when they don't even have enough info about the situation before engaging!

Did you watch the whole video? He had what seemed like a drug induced anxiety attack in his car when the police first approached him and asked him to put his hands on the wheel and he wouldn’t comply so for their own safety they felt the need to take him out of the car where he resisted even more. This is why police need to be better trained at de escalating the situation and people need to be better about complying. It’s so sad this could’ve been avoided

Justice isn't what you think it means. Don't hedge your bets on these prosecution cases. The best thing is to make appeals for evidence based changes to systemic racism. MN Statute section 609.06 Subd.3 (b) this tells you the policy of choke hold and knee to neck tactic. This tactic had limits to its use. It is considered Deadly Force for the shear reasoning that it may constrict airflow and may cause death, there has to be a good reason for this type of tactic. Let Up Get Up. Once on the ground in the prone position and handcuffed behind his back the threat was over they needed to get him out of the prone position because it restricts the breathing, so in other words Chauvin was negligent in his use of deadly force by not following his own policy and procedures. He did not Let Up or Get Up for 9 min and 29 sec. by the way the 9 m 29s comes from the prosecution opening statements. They are not throwing Chauvin under the bus to keep the peace for fear of riots it’s because he was not following proper procedure and that tactic hadn’t been taught in training since 2016. Now it’s no longer allowed in the state because of the potential for harm or death.

I had a family member that shot someone in self defense and then called the police to notify them what happen, put his hands up immediately when he saw the cop car, complied with the officer disarming him, and sat in a cop car for 3.5 hours while they investigated the scene. People have to stop resisting, especially if they potentially committed a crime.
