I've just been given a music classroom for the year, thats so dirty, all I have been doing is cleaning for a week. The last teacher left all of her items. There is so much mess, it has been overwhelming. The desk was so dirty, the cupboards are full of junk, there is rubbish in drawers instead of being thrown in the bin, over 20 years of dust and the instruments were just everywhere, with no floor space for the children. I have spent about 20 hours so far and only 1 corner is clear. No one has helped me and I don't have a boyfriend. I can't complain because I did want to job but it's just so unfair to get a classroom that is like a hoarders home. I aim to one day be able to set up my music room like yours, it will probably take me a long time to get to this but I will try. Your classroom is wonderful and thank you for sharing.

Ugh! Been there done that, so I feel your pain! There is still one closet in this room that I haven’t cleaned out yet because every single drawer and closet was filled with (mostly useless) random music things!

@@TeachinginPearls Thanks for replying. We do so much more than teach. Sounds like you are used to tackling 'fixing classrooms'...ugh so unfair really. If only we were paid for the extra work on top of the official class hours. I have slowly got one part of the room 'okay' now. Bit by bit, is what I keep telling myself.

Tell it like it is Chelsea !!!
I would go as far as calling for a ban from using your classroom against them.
If the city cannot spend some of their money to raise teachers' income or to add more resources and expand subject class variety in schools then they should at the very least spend that money on building the police their own facilities for their police academy instead of using and recking somebody else's space.
But when it comes to the need for giving or something it is always the teachers' or someone else's soul called to testing or judgment.
Sorry to sound like Ebeneezer Scrooge but in this case, #BahHumbug

Thank you! I was happy that they responded and took accountability. Hopefully they’ll be more mindful in the future!
